Note 7 Edge Panels disappear after power cycle or reset - Note 7 Questions & Answers

My edge panels are disappearing when I reboot my Note 7. I go into the edge panel settings and choose a few more panels to display. I've tried all sorts of combinations. They display fine and work. However, as soon as I re-power my Note 7, they disappear and I get the three pre-loaded panels only. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm pretty sure the panels worked correctly when I first set up the Note, even after all my apps were reloaded.
Update - I broke down and did a factory reset. I restored everything except my apps. I had no joy. Still misbehaving. I couldn't believe that it did not work. I called T-mobile and Samsung. Both were less than useless. T-mobile tried at least the basics (reset cache etc..) even though I had already done them. Samsung wanted me to send the device back in for repair or go to Best Buy to have the phone reflashed.
In desperation, I did a second factory reset. I restored nothing. The edge panels are staying put. I've restored, piece by piece, everything except my apps. Still working!! Next is to install my apps, one by one and see which one breaks it.

Keyboard and Home screen wallpaper keep changing

OGP was getting laggy so I restored to factory stock. I was surprised though that the phone remained rooted, which I guess is good. I then installed FreeGee and went with CWM, same as it was before the restore.
Now, a few weeks later, I'm having some issues with the keyboard and the Home screen wallpaper. About once or twice a day (on most days), for some unknown reason, my keyboard will revert to the Android keyboard (AOSP) from the LG keyboard that I have it set to. When I "correct" it to the LG keyboard, sometimes the "Extended keyboard" option is checked and other times it's not (I always leave the extended keyboard checked). I also will occasionally get a notification on the pull-down that I need to select a keyboard.
The other issue is that the Home screen wallpaper also seems to change itself back to the default blueberry paper. This only happens on the home screen, and it does not affect the lock screen wallpaper. The wallpaper issue seems to happen at different times than the keyboard issue.
I've also had the phone reboot itself once or twice since the restore...both times while in its holster. Only reason I know this is that I hear the AT&T boot music playing in the background. Upon viewing the phone, it's verified that it is in fact rebooting.
Anyone else having these issues, or know the cause?

Guess nobody else is having this issue.
The spontaneous rebooting has stopped, as has the "extended keyboard" issue.
What remains is the wallpaper and default keyboard changing issues. They both change at the same time now, about once a week.
What I was able to nail down is that this happens after every time titanium backup (free version) does its weekly thing. I have no idea what setting(s) I may have enabled to cause this. Anyone have an idea they can help out with?
I have the exact same problem with my home screen wallpaper changing. Ive had my optimus since about july and the first time it did it was like 2 weeks after i got the device. Kept doing it even tho i would change it back and not do anything with it regarding the screen. Wasnt sure what to make of it but whatever. It didnt do it again until yesterday (24th) and it wouldnt stop. Had to change my screen back like 5 times, and i just woke up a little bit ago and it was different again. The phone was just laying there. Didnt touch it so i have no clue. Ive tried going thru the settings to see if maybe i had checked something or whatever and im pretty sure i didnt. Only thing i can think of is that is just a glitch with the phone. I like the phone too much so thats not enough to get me to wanna get rid of it.

Are you running Titanium Backup?
If all else fails, you can always restore to stock and reinstall your apps and other items. Then maybe you will be able to determine what is causing the issue.

[Q] Settings menu all fubard

As my title states, no idea what happened to my settings menu.
I'm "stock" rooted. (Did it back in December with odin flash - 4.3)
Firewalled, Greenified, and TitaniumBackup to Freeze useless apps.
Everything has been great, then all of a sudden I was getting 3 errrors.
Google Text to Speech, Maps and Settings all quit working. (The whole, unfortunately *blank* has stopped working)
I removed Text to Speech, but Settings still crashes and refuses to work and now Maps took it's place (T2S).
Removed Maps and still Settings does not work and will randomly crash in the background.
I have done nothing new from what I described I have already done above.
Nothing was newly frozen. I have never uninstall any stock apps, just freeze them.
Last thing I uninstalled was a GoSMS theme I no longer use. Uninstalled it through ROM Toolbox Pro as I saw it was running in the background.
Everything else appears to be working fine. Camera, Chrome, Texting, Calling and my various daily apps.
Just something with the settings "app" has gone all wrong.
It also appears it's not the entire settings. Like if I go to about phone, it's all good. If I go to display part of the settings, *crash*
Two other odd issues pertaining to this as well:
My assistive light widget no longer works. So I know this happened within a 24 hour period as I use that light nearly every day.
And when you get into the settings part of the phone, all the text / font is screwed up. (Pic attached to see what I'm talking about)
Assistive light widget shows the same messed up text as well.
Data corruption. It will spread. The easiest and most successful solution is to wipe data, system, cache, and Dalvik cache, then re-flash the stock firmware, then re-root.
If you don't want it that successful you can do the wipes and restore a backup, but there is always a chance that there was corruption saved in the last backup and in a few days it will be as it is now.
What caused the corruption? It could be anything from a bad USB cable to a nearby flash of lightening, but more likely it's whatever you do that you need root for.
Frank
I would believe that was the issue if it was more wide spread.
Or I was having stability issues in daily usage.
The phone only gets charged via usb, I have not hooked it up to a computer for some time.
No storms or surges recently either.
As far as root usings, nothing has changed or updated recently. And none of what I do hard changes anything.
Reflash. Much faster and easier than wracking your brain trying to track down what exactly little thing went wrong.

Auto Rotate not working on N7

So I received the Note 7 last week and up until last night everything has worked 100%. Now the screen will not auto rotate at all. I have restarted the phone, checked that the auto rotate option is selected in the status bar, and reset the phone twice. I did have Package Disable but I re-enabled all the apps I disabled and also uninstalled it. I did not reinstall it once I reset the phone. I was wondering if anyone else here has had this issue and if they ever figured out how to resolve it. I was going to test the sensor but can not get into the service hidden menu on this phone. From what I have read to get into that menu you have to go to the phone app and type in *#0*# but nothing works. Maybe because it is Verizon and they took that out. Not really sure. If anyone could maybe point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated. I know I will probably have to return the phone for another one but I would like to test the sensors out before I do that to confirm it with Verizon.
Had the same issue, several attempts to reset the phone but didn't work. Call center suggested I take the phone to a corporate store and exchange it. Got it exchanged in no time, new phone works great love it coming from a note 4.
Guessing bad sensor.

Yea unfortunately the stores around here are all sold out for a few days so I am just gonna wait until they send me one. Was the replacement you received brand new in the box?

Yup, brand new.
So I think I have found a solution. I booted into safe mode and then rebooted into standard mode. When that happened my wallpaper changed to the stock wallpaper as well as the material dark theme I got from the samsung store went away. Auto rotate works just fine. Changed my wallpaper back. I think it has something to do with the themes. I just did this fix. I will comment later on today to see if it stuck.

I factory reset my phone and it still didn't work. The Iris scanner also stopped working. Factory reset again and still didn't fix it. Even with no apps still no rotate and iris scanner not even being detected. Just received a replacement yesterday and everything works on this one even with root.
If you removed or froze all the samsung apps you may have inadvertantly deleted the libgnustl_shared.so file. It resides in system/lib, this was a common problem with the note 3 and happened after deleting samsung hub.

I never froze any apps. Plus I reset the phone twice. And even the Iris scanner wasn't being detected anymore on a factory reset phone. Like I said I replaced the phone and everything works

Random top row of the screen not working! Grrr

Okay this has bugged the heck out of me for ages, maybe someone knows the answer to it.
The top notification bar (and sometimes the row underneath in certain apps) sometimes is completely unpressable, as if it's being blocked. I should note this happens on my Note 7, but has also occurred on my Note 3, my old S2 and even the S7. Which makes me think it must be a setting I choose, or an app I install.
Sometimes, I'll turn on my phone, go past the lock screen and I won't be able to drag the notification bar down. I found a workaround (which has worked on all my old phones).
- Turn the phone off
- Turn it back on
- On the lock screen try to drag the notification bar down (which doesn't do anything)
- Unlock the phone
- Then it works again!!
My mrs had this too, and my workaround fixed it.
This issue has spanned over multiple versions of Android and is now doing my head in.
Any ideas?
Some app overlay is on top of it such as: Flux, blue light filter, and things like that. Once disable the issue is gone. That might be your issue.

I would place a 90% bet on this being a carried over app problem. Have you tried a fresh reset and reproduced the problem?
Have you also tried the service test for Touch ans S Pen? *#0*#

I thought as much. I used to have Twilight installed but I deleted it and it hasn't solved my issue!

I think so too. One example I have an issue with is the offscreen memo function. I pull the stylus out and can write on the screen off, but the row of buttons along the top NEVER work! But, I should say on a hard reset it was fine until all the apps were installed and logged into, or a setting was put in place. The service test for S Pen and Touch works perfectly. All I can think is trying to install 1 app at a time, and seeing what happens as a result. Will be painful with 100+ apps though. I'm about to replace my N7 on the recall too so I want to hold off on a hard reset too.
I feel your pain, if it were me I would rather discover the erroneous app now than later. Perhaps a backup via smartswitch on PC (very fast over USB 3) and when you know which app restore the backup and delete the app accordingly?

By pure luck. I found it. 3 years of pain and I nailed the bugger! Something you said triggered a thought process.
It was....
Cerberus security! An app that automatically hides itself from the draw once it's installed so usually never crossed my mind.
Disabling the "Block Status bar" feature in Cerberus fixed it.
PHEW!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for this (both of you).
good for you!

System UI Not Responding

Does anyone else get intermittent freezing where the entire phone becomes unresponsive for like 30 seconds? It's not affecting any specific apps, but it does seem to happen often when I'm pressing the home or back button on the navigation bar. Also happens when pressing send in messaging apps. Sometimes it results in ANR, other times it will unfreeze without giving a crash dialog.
Could it possibly be tied to battery optimization and putting apps in deep sleep? I've had this problem on both my Note 10+ and S20 Ultra. Did not have an issue on my Note 8.
Steps taken to remedy situation (but did not fix the problem):
Factory reset
Clear partition cache
Running phone in safe mode (worked, but did not help with determining exact problem)
Setting battery settings to High Performance
Wiping app caches
Stopped using SwiftKey (but still seeing crashes on Samsung Keyboard and Gboard)
Unchecked "Put unused apps to sleep"
Unchecked "Adaptive Battery" setting
YES. This has been happening to me for 6 months now and its trying me crazy. On my ATT Note 20 Ultra. Even after factory reset it eventually came back. I feel like its a hardware problem to be honest because it seems to happy when the CPU or Memory is overloaded or working hard. For example, 2 times I can make it happen is when I update 10+ apps from the playstore and try to do anything else, or when I first turn on my phone and its launching all the startup apps.
Not sure what to do, maybe get a replacement from Samsung or ATT? Just hate having to format yet again.
On thing that did help is yesterday I bought the cloud version of Samsung Package Disabler (i bought these thing like 4 times over the years but thats another story) and I disabled 50 apps that I dont need to run but I dont like the hassle of uninstalling and then reinstalling and the passwords etc. Anyways it def has lessened the issue. Which again is why I think its a hardware problem. Since I lessened the apps running in the background it has lessened the issue.
Anyways if you have any updates on your end please let me know, thanks!
