Hi
Which SD card do you recommend to expand memory in 16 GB Nvidia Shield?
I use these 2 Cards in my Nvidia Shield TV

and

The Samsung card is ALOT faster but the price is ALOT higher compared to the PNY card
Do you use one of this as your internal storage for applications data?
External USB3 SSD is way faster. You can buy an SSD and external enclosure seperatly to save €/$/£/¥.
Any recommendations on an SSD?
Because of the the promotion that Samsung ran with the Note 7 you should be able to go on CL and get one for as little as $100 dollars.
I use one of these external SSDs not had any issues.

Has anyone found a inexpensive yet fast Micro Sd card reader?
I just got a Sandisk 64GB and would love to find something that could reader and transfer files to it as quick as possible. I looked at DX.com but a few units mentioned slow speeds. Anyone have any they can vouch for?
I have a Sandisk 64GB and several reader/transfer USB devices. All of them tell me the SD needs to be formatted. My SGS3 accepts media file transfers on the card though. All my readers can read my 32GB SD cards and transfer files with no problems at all. How are you getting files (other than media) to transfer between your PC and 64GB SD card at any speed, even slow?

Figured it out after reading more SD card posts...
My XP laptop needed an MS update to read exfat. Got it and everything works now.
I got this one from Amazon when it was on sale for $28 as the lightning deal of the day.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A4A1TYM/
It comes with a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed microSD card reader (that just sweetened the deal) best of all, this card is rated a UHS I class 300x
I would have gone with 64GB but I'm glad I didn't since you have to hack your ROM to use it as your internal storage on Samsung devices. This is one thing HTC does right atleast. They let you combine your storage, why can't Samsung do the same...
the speeds are very impressive though, it outperforms my Class 10 8gb microSD
I get 41 MB/s read and 24 MB/s write (with the USB 3.0 jack)
with USB 2.0 it cuts those speeds down in half
Although not a question dedicated solely to the OGP, i figured others with this phone might also want to know....
I'm looking to get a 64gb card for the phone to store music and whatever else can be put there (I realize apps can't go on the SD). I've seen class 10 cards and other slower classes for sale online. Does the speed of the card make that much of a difference for the uses that we need? I'm assuming that any class of card would be sufficient for music, but then again maybe I'm wrong. Someone please educate me!!!
I realize that with a digital camera, you want a faster card to quickly store the image you just took, so you can get on to snapping the next picture, but with our phones do we need the faster storage that class 10 provides? How much does it matter?
Also, I understand there are apps that swap the built in memory location for the Micro SD location (sorry, I'm an Android newbie and I'm just learning), so that I could have 64gb of "built-in" storage for apps (minus the OS), and 23gb for "external storage", then would the speed class of the card then come into play much? How fast is the built in memory compared to a class 10 SD card?
the thing i can say is class 10 helps a lot for "scanning media" process which comes :
every time you boot the phone
every time you move some media or add some new
before i had a cheap one and it was long....
Built in memory will typically be faster than even a Class 10 card. The other day I picked up a 64GB MicroSD card from Best Buy (half price at $50) and put a ton of ripped movies into it so I can show of that 5.5" screen. It scanned the 50GB of files in a few seconds and I haven't noticed any stuttering, even as I scroll through the videos.
All of the 64GB MicroSD cards I have seen have been Class 10 anyway, so don't worry if you pick up a 64GB. This is the one I purchased (same price as Best Buy):

And I do see a few non-branded cards on Amazon, but I would stick with a name brand. There is a reason they are selling for $16.
And, to make it more confusing, I've seen Micro SD and Micro SDHC cards. Can the OGP use both types, and is one better than the other?

MicroSD is anything under 4gb, 4-32= SDHC above 32gb = SDXC. The OGP can accept any of them (up to 64gb).
Just about to pull the trigger on a Sandisk 400GB Micro SD card from Amazon, and just wondered before i buy, if anyone knows the maximum memory card size the 5T will Take?
Don't want to buy it if it's not compatible.
Thanks

I think you should tread the 5T specs first.
The 5T does not have expandable storage.
That's a more helpful answer than the first one, thanks.
damn, why it was so difficult for onplus to make 3rd slot for microsd, always something missing !!
since my first android phone, they always did that !!
Because they want to lost the money from you, just because you buy a memory card, instead of buying a phone with bigger storage from they. Memory card is slower than the phone storage. Just two examples, why they make this decision. The 3rd... the need extra space, for the memory card tray...I know, yes, you say that there is also space on the tray, if you decide to use just one sim... But you need a READER PART TOO... that's extra space... It's better to get a memory card slot for it, but a smaller battery?? I don't think so.

Hey Ben,
This is a little old question but I've just started using the OnePlus 5T a couple of months ago. You can use larger memory sticks and disk drives. But you'll need to convert to FAT32 format first. I just did this with a SanDisk 64gb stick and works great. I think my 128gb 5T is large enough but great to have extra space for movies on flights. If you haven't already sorted this out, I'll be happy to provide you with more information.
its actually because the SD cards memory runs way slower than the phones built in storage memory and would bottleneck your phone. and why on gods green earth would you even need more than 128GB? one solution would be to buy a USB type c memory stick, on that well known auction site they sell at 64gb= £10 or 128gb - £15 as previously mentioned format them to fat32 to make them compatible. most come with type c connector on one end and normal usb the other
what micro sd card do you recommend which is compatible for the razer phone? looking for a bang for the buck with fast read/write and doesnt need to be above 512gb. Thanks
I have personally gone with the Samsung 256GB Evo Plus Class 10 / U3 card from Samsung Mobile on amazon. Currently still on sale £114, I never really use the camera unless on holiday or need to snap a quick pic or video of something as its quicker than writing it down. Conisdering my last family holiday I took the 128GB iPhone 6s size wise the 256gb is more than enough as the only game i have installed is hearthstone. All my apps take up a total 21.33/58.90 (GB) on the internal drive leaving the SD for the camera.
i have a toshiba 128gb, class 10, u3 and the phone lags considerably when using the external cards memory to access.
i have it formated as internal memory as well.
i thought U3 class 10 is the fastest you can get but it still tells me the card is slow when i go to format it.
OK So I bought a Nvidia Shield TV thinking it would have the 16GB of storage as previous versions and no it doesn't the storage got decrease to 8GB which is a joke and the RAM got decreased to 2GB which is also a joke. I don't know what Nvidia was thinking, they even removed the USB ports.
Anyways I used a 16GB Micro SD card I had to expand the internal storage and installed a bunch of apps. But now I want to upgrade the Micro SD card to a bigger one without losing the apps or data.
I read of ways of cloning an Android Micro SD card to a bigger one without losing the data. Will this work for the Shield TV if I formatted the Micro SD Card as System Storage?
You should have bought the Pro then
Not sure what nvidia was thinking when they did this. The os is 32bit, low space and ram not very future friendly. The price is not exactly cheap either.

im shocked they even went with a 16gb model? i thought new one would use tegra x2 or xavier and have 4gb ram with 32gb and 64gb options. shame they dont bring back the hard drive. at this rate the best shield tv device is the original 2015 model that has a hdd.
next model will have 640kB of memory and external floppy drive and we will still buy it
