Custom ROM Camera Quality - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I want to use a custom rom CM/ or what ever.
But I did read the camera quality is bad on custom roms...
What ROM would you prefer and what rating would you give the camera ?
Thanks for reading...

On a custom rom you'd never get the picture quality as good as official rom. On a scale of 10 where 10 is for oxygen os camera, i'd rate cm rom's camera about 6-7. i personally like cm's camera over other roms as it have decent features and you can also try third party camera apps like open camera (my personal fav), camera-fv, a better camera etc.

As 9 months has passed since the last reply on this thread, how are the things now? Any Custom ROM with camera quality which comes close to Stock OOS Camrea? And capable of shooting 60FPS 1080p Video?

You can try the port of oxygen os cam for custom roms. The best option right now.

But 60fps video still don't works in this port. Original OnePlus camera is still the best and this is only reason I use Oxygen OS.

Custom ROM means sacrificing camera quality?

I recently rooted/s-offd my phone and immediately went for Cyanogenmod. I couldn't help but notice the camera quality is extremely horrid in comparison to the stock camera.
Is there a solution to this with use of Cyanogenmod, and or is this problem only linked to ROMs that aren't sensed base? I'm not incredibly big on using my camera but I utilize it enough to where I need the quality back.
Yep that pretty much is the case when you switch to aosp on an HTC phone. You could try focal from the play store. It looks better than cm in my opinion.

AFAIK Focal is designed by the makers of CM(or something like that). I'll check it out but last I knew it was extremely buggy.
Would going to a sense based ROM(eg viper) resolve the camera issue? I could always experience with nand backups but knowing off the bat would save me some time.

Yeah viper is a sense ROM so the sense cam still works. Focal was designed for use with cm but the creator pulled it from cm when they went corporate. The last time I used it it wasn't buggy at all but I don't really take pics that much.

I just tried it out and it crashed within seconds of use haha. PicSphere is still buggy but that's no surprise. It definitely seems to be a good camera, just needs more work. Something I will have to keep an eye on.

D852 advantages/disadvantages of using stock Lollipop vs. Cyanogen 12.1?

Hi,
I've only recently started using different ROM's on my LG G3(852). Thanks to Dene_Bluesman and his custom stock ROM I am a happy camper. But, I keep seeing Cyanogen as being one of the better ROM's out there that is more closely aligned to the AOSP.
Any thoughts over the advantages or disadvantages of using Cyanogen over a stock, albeit custom version, Lollipop ROM?
Battery life? Camera? Stability? Speed?
Thanks for any and all advice.

Thanks,
Are there ROMs that do "work" better?
I barely used CM 13, but is it the cat's meow, so to speak?

Nah in my opinion, most of the AOSP based ones are more or less the same since everyone more or less uses the Cyanogenmod base for G3
LG UI based custom roms are just essentially a jazzed up stock os that essentially offer not that many practical advantages in day to day use

I love cm13 compared to stock. Its way more smooth compared to stock and the phone is either faster or feels faster anyways still a plus. Then there is the great option of themes. I like my phone generally dark so i have my dark theme. Well the camera is is not as cool as stock but it takes decent pictures i can work with that. At the moment it has a couple of bugs but nothing too serious. Once u go cm13 u wont go back unless u use your phone for some HEAVY PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC work which i dont and doubt u do.

I am running CM13 Nightlies and loving it. Stable. Fast. Highly customizable. I got the G4 camera app and it works great. Life is fun and open after iOS's closed-down-ness.

Oop. My bad... I was looking for G4 camera. I started using Open Camera and was a bit overwhelmed, but the Cyanogenmod one seems to work very well for me.
Sorry for the false hope. If I find it I will definitely share.

Best rom over ElementalX kernel?

I have had the first release of 3.2.4 (the one with a little worse battery life and performance). What should/could i flash over the latest ElementalX kernel (0.14) to get most out of my device in performance and hopefully better battery life? (I want to stay Close OOS so i can make full use of the camera until CM has catched up.)
I like PureCM (with the rom it comes with)
I'm using 3.2.2 w/ ElementalX atm to test.

The camera is flawed compared to OOS cam. I want that app in my rom, otherwise i have no demands.
Any of the stock based ROMs should be just fine really.

"Good" is very relative. I want it to be as best as can be for now. And that is using stock Camera app. Dont know if there are any More roms than hydrogen, op3lite?

If camera quality is your main concern the best bet in my opinion is FreedomOS, a debloated and optimized version of OxygenOS.

Try Sultan's CM ROM for good camera quality and Arter 97's kernel. Working well for me and it's smooth and battery-friendly.

I did. That's why I suggested Sultan's CM ROM because it has the best camera quality for CM-based ROMs. If you can't take any suggestions, stick with OOS. Simple.

Sure, but i though it was obvious that i wanted the stock app

Is there a stable good battery ROM?

OOS is pretty stable and the battery is good. But, I don't like OOS.
I've tried to use the stable CM 13 from Aug. but the touchscreen freezes regularly. The nightly also has problems such as never re-connecting to wifi.
Thoughts?
IMO a custom kernel with some tweaks can do a great job. Light underclocking using different governors etc.

NucleaROM and I'll tell you why.
Responsive devs.
The best battery life of all ROM's by far.
Stable.
OOS camera port.
sultan's CM-rom is really solid, but i prefer OOS for the camera and performance
OrionOS. AOSP, latest security patches, Lots of customization.

Have you compared the same scenes? I noticed that without OOS the camera can have terrible noise and "muddy" details. Even on sultanxda CM.

I'd love to see some low-light comparisons, since that's where OOS far exceeds other roms with or without the port.
