Galaxy Note 4 6.0.1 Hotspot Mod? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My note 4 is rooted
model number SN-N910P
Stock ROM
I have been searching for a few hours with no results I felt confident with. I have been searching for a mod or custom ROM that allows WiFi tethering that the carrier cant detect and phone call recording similar to what I had on my S4. I am willing to downgrade lose all my data the ROMS I found are for android version 5.*.* any guidance would be helpful. even if its a paid service

Custom ROMs typically have that standard but the tx_dbs_tx stock ROMs have it as an optional recovery flash in post # 2.
You may have to downgrade if not on the update the ROMs you find match yours. Just follow the OP.

Well I ended up with an endless boot screen last night after installing a module So I need to start fresh with a new ROM I suppose

There's a new debloated deodexed 6.0.1 ROM with Hotspot based off the latest PG1 update in the dev section made by Saintz93. Check it out. As for call recording, there are a few Xposed modules which will add it such as Xtouchwiz and firefds

If you root gtidoneapps will give you hotspot on any Samsung. It's a pretty cool app. It will also open all toggles. They have it in here under development.

The best way to start fresh is to get the latest firmware from sammobile. Odin back to stock let the rom setup then install TWRP. Leave it read only until you make a nandroid then you can restore back to stock whenever things go south. I like the idoneapp for the hotspot.

I will have this fixed in the next update. I have to do many many changes in the buildprop.
But at the current moment your phone should be getting LTE and 4G during calls even though it says 4G H+

This is a leaked firmware from China. This ROM will be updated over the days. Plus it takes a very very very long time for the device to boot. Please leave it up for about 10 min before doing anything and to play it safe after the ROM does boot please don't touch the device for about 5 min after the first boot.
omg it worked
It worked but are you going to be fixing the wifi isse id like to makebthis my daily driver and help test it for you?
I flashed this wit the latest CWM touch recovery worked fine. Normal problems like op stated. Can't wait for the next update should be a sweet rom.
working great T-Mobile M919
Flashed on my T-Mobile M919...it works great...if this alpha...its one hell of an alpha......WiFi works great...just flashed ausdims kernel works with no problem.....just minor things.. Screen mirroring won't connect.. But can stream music with WiFi direct.... Wish there was a way to get WiFi calling...other than that..this is a great daily driver...oh yes...battery is pretty Good.
Flashed ausdims kernel. Wifi, bt, ir blaster works, didn't try screen mirroring. Gps took a day to start working right. Gmail, MSN and games sink, fb doesn't show notifications, no big deal. Been using this for a couple days pretty smooth, no reboots like the kernel stated. I'm using metropcs S4.

make sure you do a full wipe when downloading...you can use any i9505 rom for the m919...they are pretty much the same device but different countries.........i prefer to use this rom..which has s6 features baked in with google apps already in the zip as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/rom-albe95-lollirom-official-1-0-t3049564 ...i prefer AEL kernel for best wifi, mobile net work signal (LTE) and of course kernel tweaks for great battery and performance..you can find it here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934552452
1. FIRST DO A FULL WIPE DONT WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE.....THEN WIPE ALL TRACES OF YOUR CURRENT KERNEL WITH THIS. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712468056
THIS IS A KERNEL CLEANING SCRIPT. I BELIEVE IT IS NECESSARY COMING FROM A DIFFERENT ROM.
2.INSTALL THE ROM FROM THE LINK IVE PROVIDED ..MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD TO INTERNAL STORAGE..AND IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES FOR FIRST BOOT BECAUSE OF ART...JUST BE PATIENT..IT WILL BOOT.
3.AFTER FIRST BOOT............... BOOT INTO RECOVERY AND INSTALL AEL KERNEL FOR WIFI TO WORK AND OF COURSE SYNAPSE KERNEL TWEAKS.
4.ENJOY AND HIT THE THANKS BUTTON IF IT WORKED WELL FOR YOU AND GIVE THESE DEVELOPERS THANKS AS WELL FOR THEIR WORK.
FLASH ALL FILES WITH TWRP.

you will have to download the the official firmware from sammobile.com for the device and boot phone into download mode and flash the .tar file via odin......thats the only way to go back to factory......did the steps not work?

Safe ROMs for unlocked boot loader?

I understand there are no safe MM ROMs once the boot loader is unlocked.
Other than that, can we install any of the ROMs for DE devices without worry?

"Safe ROM?" I'm not sure I follow your question.
I would not take the recently released Marshmallow OTA. It will relock your bootloader. And while you might be able to roll back to 5.1.1 and re-root, for me it's simply not worth the hassle. The .tar files developers need to make a Marshmallow ROM for our Verizon phones should be out any day. Give the wizards a week or so after that to whip up their magic. That's one option.
Another option would be to amble on over to the generic Note 4 forum, where there is a healthier ROM development environment. Many of these ROMs will work with your 5.1.1 bootloader and modem. The basic drill for making one of these ROMs work is to ignore the directions for flashing updated bootloaders and modems, flash the basic ROM and any fixes, then apply one of louforgiveno's data fixes. Stick with ROMs developed for N910F/G models.
My personal Marshmallow favorite... it's the only ROM I've tried other than CM13... is Dr. Ketan's. It has elements of both the Note 5 and S7. Does it have all of the newest goodies of the OTA such as Wifi calling? Nah. Since I don't really need it, I don't miss it. But everything I need for it to work does. Your mileage may vary.
Happy ROMing!
If your question is "can I install any of the ROMs meant for a DE on my retail Note 4" the answer is yes. I've tried PaulPizz, CM13, Kyubi, and Dr. Ketan and got them all to work on my phone. You just need to make sure you download all of the proper files and thank the devs. If any MM ROMs do come they will be listed in the "Android Development Section" along with all of the other ROMs that work on this device (retail or DE).
I'm pretty sure what the OP means is that for all those like me who have the Retail SM-N910V, it would be nice to compile a list of all working ROMs for our phones and what methods of installation were used. You have your ROMs that were installed via Odin and ROMs that were installed via TWRP. I'm not sure what the difference is, other than with TWRP you can install more than one ROM, right? Additionally, we want to make sure we're all using the correct files, that is, at least avoid the ones from Verizon that will probably re-lock our phones.

Follow the link to the generic Note 4 forum. Go to the Snapdragon subforum. Pick a ROM. Do not flash the bootloader or modem if the instructions say to. Just flash the ROM and any fixes. Go to louforgiveno's thread with the data fixes. Pick the appropriate fix and flash. The Nameless ROM at quick glance looks like a fairly unmodified Marshmallow TouchWiz ROM. Most of the others are ports, mostly Note 5 and S7 marriages.

If you dabble in this ROM flashing game long enough, you'll find that often not everything works as it should. Flashing doesn't go as smoothly as we'd like, and sometimes some of the features don't work properly or at all. Forced closes and random reboots are also part of the frustrations.
It all works out to a risk/benefit analysis. Will I be happier with my phone being able to customize it further? Will the new features gained outweigh the features lost? On the Dr Ketan's ROM that I'm using, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work properly. I don't miss it since I wasn't happy with the way it worked originally. I've had his ROM on my phone for over a week with the only hiccups being self induced. Recovering my backup makes everything all new and shiny again.

Which version did you flash for Dr. Ketan rom? I am on cm 13 now would like to try dr. ketan, i am a little bit unsure on the exact directions for the 910v from what I have read though as long as don't flash any bootloader files and apply the data fix I should be fine I can always flash back. Question is do i use F or G download for the rom, and what specific order do i have to flash the rom, h-vitamin, and data fix? any help would be appreciated.

So long as you're still on the 5.1.1 bootloader, you can use any version of Dr Ketan's ROMs. I was using the M5 version. I haven't tried this ROM or any of the other Snapdragon variants since I upgraded to the 6.0.1 bootloader. From what I've read people have not been able to get data and wifi to work.
The drill to install Dr Ketan's ROMs is to backup your working setup using recovery, wipe Dalvik/ART, cache, system, and data, flash the ROM, the M5 fix, boot into the ROM but don't sign in to Google or Samsung. Go back to recovery and flash louforgiveno's M3 data fix. (I haven't checked into his thread lately and he may have a fix for M5. Dr Ketan rolled back his base which is why the M4 fix doesn't work.) Boot into the ROM, sign in to Google/Samsung as needed and profit.
Note: I didn't see any provision for HD/wifi calling in Dr Ketan's ROM which seems to be important to a lot of people. I also haven't been to the thread in about a week to see if there's a M6.

Hope you can work it out. I tried every data fix and kernel in every conceivable combination, and nothing worked. I asked louforgiveno if he'd look into it, and he responded he'd have to swap in all the 6.0 stuff into a new data fix for us, so I hope that meant yes! He has been so helpful to all the different note 4 variants.

Thanks. I just downloaded Odin file today and was gonna update my phone and do this to it myself with superr.
Thank you, now I don't need to.
anyone know what roms can successfully be flashed with this as the base? Looking for a smooth port.. Current N7 rom is having a lot of random restarts and camera problems

I'm not for sure but most likely CM14 would work.
And I know ,when it comes out, @tx_dbs_tx N7 port is based on pj1. Which is only 1 firmware away, so it might work.
But this file isn't gonna flash the firmware part that would be the base. You have to use the Odin file to flash the boot loader and modem.
This file is for after you update to pk1. If you want to stay stock but without all the bloat. And deodexed for easier modding.

@carlosggb what's your thoughts on this update as far as basic smoothness, battery life, network and such? Better, worse, about same? Or is it mainly security updates?
Thanks.
@aaron74 , i feel battery life was great the first day, which is not easy to get on a first cycle, performance is good but havent had enough time to push it as im working with @13druber on Dtux Rom v7 so my phone is in test mode.
But it feels solid and is the safest yet too, so if security is a concern, this is the way to go, PK1

Thanks, I'm getting ready to Odin it now.
Plus awesome to hear about Dtux v7. Besides testing cm14 and N7 ports, It's the only N4 software Rom I use. It's the most customisable Rom that's still N4ish. If that makes any sense to ya.
Looking forward to it.
is it possible to enable the "open with" default behavior menu option?

I've been waiting for that port with baited breath.
I'm surprised more people aren't commenting on this rom. Are people moving to some other rom or staying with an old debloated rom? I am thinking about moving to this to get the added security stuff.
Thank you for your hard work on this and the other rom(s).

You can rerun the modset all the times you want, just take these two things in consideration:
1-If you change kernel you must leave ticked Supersu and Busybox on the last page, otherwise untick them.
2-On the first page after clicking on installation, Make sure you pick"Apps and Extra Mods" instead of "Install ModSet" when you are adding new apps, xposed modules or just changing other settings.

First Off About Me:
First off, Let me state, I'm a full-time construction worker and also a full-time Dad. I'm not a Dev, like the peeps I learned from. So don't expect this Rom to get massive updates or often updates. My main purpose of this Rom is to deliver a Newer Stock Base for anyone to play with. But I do intend on adding small basic updates, as this interest me as a hobby! Thank You for your understanding, and Enjoy!
About ROM
Warning: This ROM is ONLY for the Sprint SM-N910P!!! DO NOT FLASH THIS ROM ON ANY OTHER MODEL!!! If you do then you are on your own! Know what you are doing before flashing and modifying your phone!!! You have been Warned!! I am not responsible for your phone breaking or blowing up!!
It has come to my attention that not everyone would want Root or Any customizations. So what I did was supply a True 100% Stock Deodexed QB3 Rom with NO Mods, Except for being Knox and Its-On Free. You can use it alone or as a base to flash my other mods!!
Version: 2.0

Heres a little bit about what add-ons I have so far! No big write up on them, they are self explaining!

2. Mods zip: This installs all the modded framwork files. (ex. Advanced power menu, Open Once/Always) This one will get updated time to time, as I add stuff!! SEE POST 2 FOR MORE INFO!!
3. Root zip: Installs Systemless SuperSU and Systemless Busybox.
4. Hidden Apps: Restores Hidden Apps. (For Sprint only)
Flashing instructions:
Before you flash this rom you should be on the N910PVPS4DQB3 firmware. Specifically the bootloader and modem. You can get that HERE! Flash it with ODIN!
Also, You need a custom recovery to Flash this Rom!
***Before you flash this rom, please make sure your battery has at least 30% charge***
OK... Lets begin!
1. Download the rom and all the other mods you want!
2. Check the MD5!!! Use a MD5 checksum tool on your pc or phone (Google is your friend)
3. Copy the downloaded files to your phone's internal storage or micro-sd card
4. Backup anything you need to backup from your internal storage and copy it to your pc or sd-card

Thanks @aaron74 I know we've had some requests for latest rooted stock ROM.
This sounds like what they're looking for. With developers leaving and Note 4 closing in on EOL, this device needs more developers. Best wishes for success and your endeavor to learning more.

Thank you for taking time from your schedule in real life to contribute to the xda and for keeping note 4 THE best phone available to date . I was just wondering if you would know how to fix the root switch barrier i have come accross when trying to load pokemon app , when i was on stock pk1 odexed i used root switch app to disable root and i played the game fine using flygps with this build and being deodexed when i try to do the same it fails , first the gps says cannot be found thats because im using mock location app and second pokemon app itself tells me it cannot authenticate the account im guessing cause it cannot pass the safety net test, so my question is ...is it a easy fix or is it something that would take weeks of work if it is dont even bother buddy ill just roll back to my backup its no biggie but if its easy i'd like to keep this build and have the pokemon working thanks.

But No I wouldn't have a clue about that. I'm not quite that talented yet. Ive just started learning some of the more technical stuff about modding.
If you do find out the possible fix, I'd be more than happy to incorporate it into the rom!
Thanks!
Edit: I'm just taking a stab in the dark here, but since we're dealing with root. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with su.d or system less root or dmverity.
What exact rom were you on when it worked?
I'm not home right now, but try extracting the stock kernel from the qb3 firmware.
Flash it then flash Super su again.
Then try the root switch.
Let me know if that does anything?

I managed to put together a fix to try. I'm just quessing but this will let me rule out if its related to the kernel.
Its stock PK1 Kernel (all i have on phone right now).
Download it,
Uninstall the Root switch app.
Flash the kernel zip. Reboot!
Then install Root switch.
Let me know if it works. :fingers-crossed:
EDIT- SEE Post BELOW!!
Pokeman and snapchat won't work with root... Not rom related.

You are running stock kernel right?
And also, you are NOT running xposed?
This is the only way i know to get Safetynet green.
The dev from Magisk is working real hard to let us keep root on for Safetynet Passing, but on the xposed side we still have that big problem.

Which Roms can be installed with QI15 firmware

I have purchased yet another note 4 for the grandson. His firmware is QI15. Original plan was for me to use it, but since my Pixel 3a XL is still yet a lease I might as well use it. Plus it is a lot faster anyway.. His mother does not have the money to buy one for him, so I figured what the hell, he can have it.Which roms can he use.. I no longer have mine, but will root this if it is still possible.. From reading you can't downgrade from MM to LL. But can you downgrade to a earlier version of MM? Thanks.
inYes, that is correct but also cant downgrade the bootloader/modem. That is because of fused 5, binary 4. and te old official stock 5DQ15 .tar md5 can be fashed via Odin. Any other stock firmware below that has a fused 4 and flashing will result in a bricked device.
If your already on 5DQ15 and wish to flash customer roms then use TWRP and make a back up of all partitions to external sd. The any custom rom for Sprint Note 4 (sm-n910p) on Marshmallow are/should compatible. Basically, follow the instructions provided by the rom developer but do not flash a different bootloader or modem. Other than that follow all other institution. For best results, start in setting , sustem update and turm of automatic updates then update PRL and Profile beforehand. Developer Option and usb debugging enabled.
Rooting the Sprint Note 4 on 5DQ15 still possible? Yes 100% SuperSu or Magisk are the preferred root methods.

[/COLOR]https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...are-customizations-mods-roms-kernels-t3960353
Also recommend you start with a stock deodexed rom as a base before flashing other custom roms. Rom only
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...tock-deodexed-debloated-pk1-12-11-16-t3517454
or
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-t3568075
then reboot and give it time to properly set up set up. Check if hotspot is visible setting and check your apn settings. If all looks good and it should the return to TWRP and once again make a back up and rename (2019-10-05-deodexStockNoroot.....) so not to be mistaken with any other backups. After that flash root .zip and/or a custum rom of you choice.
I use the BeastMod r61 kernel by Freeza on a N4 Dtux V9 Legend rom. Fixed issues with network connection.

I 100% agree that not being able to downgrade sucks big time. I hear all the hipe about new Android OS updates but there are advantages of older versions. In 2018, I searched for a replacement with a lower bootloader but simply couldn't find one. Knowing that peope were bricking there device and Odin fails I decided to get one in fair condition. Being the type to mod and flash yet unsure of what ir how to do that as custom roms are specific to bootloader and modem. I figured, I'll practice with a cheap on incase I hard brick. At the time there didnt seem to be specific information on what rom worked with 5DQ15. I started out with Stockist Plus tidbits Q15. My old Note 4 was on [MOAR v2.1] [ULTIMATE Note5 Hybrid] on lollipop 5.1.1. and had lost of customizations prebuild. So going from the Mother Of All Roms (MOAR) on lollipop to Stockish Q15 on marshmallow, just sucked. It didnt take long before I started taking calculated risks with flashing and porting, even from other models and variations. Stepping out side the box but within boundaries. For instance, the n910f is an international version but much of its software is compatible with the n910p. For instance, this one works on n910p with most stockish roms on Sprint Note 4. With Custum roms it may conflict depending on the setting. If stockish rom or custom rom come with a "rom control"app (interface) and .zip in the link bellow come with "rom control" app thin it is not compatible. One cool feature is it adds "multiple user" in setting.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/utility-rom-control-note-4-stock-roms-t3586944
These n910f worked for me and has the advantage of separate .zips moding specific parts but warn that one of these .zip in the link , I believe its the "settings theme" .zip when flashed removes "hotspot" from the settings. Just 6.0mm zips are compatible on dq15 n010p.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/theme-customize-galaxy-note-4-n910f-t3017621
The GRX is one of my favorites for stockish roms. It can be compatible with custom roms but its a complicated process. Im guessing it should work with the N7 hybrid rom. Its relatively easy and offers nice smooth customizations. Its a good idea to chech the setting of both settem and "setting GRX" as to avoid conflict. If you find it on XDA even better. For me, I find it to be the best thing on 6.0mm.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/androidfit.com/grx-touchwiz-mod-v8-apk-for-any-samsung/amp
And the PK1 hotspot mod will work as long as the hotspot is in the main settings.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...tock-deodexed-debloated-pk1-12-11-16-t3517454
Good luck to you and your grandson rooting and moding.

If you install Busybox with the N7 hybrid kernel I offer a suggestion.
Busybox by Stephen (Stericson)
I never installed the Dr. Ketan rom but I did look at the Touchwiz launcher provided in the .zip and it is a MM. Dont know why you got FC's . Most likely its our latest firmware that to blame.
Wish I could remember what it was I flashed to get that in my settings as I think I remember you wanted that feature.
