First of all to admins..., I hope I'm posting this in the right section. If I'm not, please move it or direct me.
I have a Verizon S5 - G900V that is soft bricked and I have been pulling my hair out trying to restore stock rom to it via Odin. It fails every time. I have tried so many versions - some fail with aboot, which I understand means that th version I'm flashing is older and I can't downgrade. Fair enough. The only one that seems to work is G900VVRU2DPD1 (which shows up as the version in recovery mode) but it fails at loading the SYSTEM stage. In Odin on Windows it shows fail (AUTH) an on t device it shows secure check fail: system
Reactivation lock on the device in download mode shows OFF And I can't boot into the OS to verify that.
I have all the necessary device drivers installed in windows.
The device, I believe, is not rooted.
Using kies doesn't work because I asks for for device serial which I d know and does n show under the battery (only shows IMEI an model) and using the Verizon repair Assistant doesn't even see the device
I have wiped cache partition and did factory reset from recovery mode.
I have done exhaustive Google searches an been on many xda dev posts for weeks and not finding anything that works.
I've also tried pushing with adb sideload....didnt work.
The only thing I can think of, and think I might have read somewhere, is that my problems are caused by a locked bootloader. I anyone here able to attest to that?
One other thing...in recovery mode, if I select mount system, it gives errors in red e:Failed to mount /system (invalid argument).
Any experts here able to help me get passed this to successfully flash stock rom (or any rom even modified) back into this device and end my madness?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

any experts out there able to help me on this one?

I attempted to update my phone to the latest firmware, via Kies, & although Kies gave a successful report, the handset said there was an error, & would reboot. Ever since that point, all i can get, is the main Samsung 'GALAXY S GT-I9000' screen. I've also tried hard & soft resets, but nothing seems to get me back to the proper menu. The hard reset gives this report -
Appling Multi-CSC
Installing Multi-CSC
Can't access to '/system/csc/ORA/system/.
Succesfully applied multi-CSC.
clicking 'yes' on the 'wipe data' option gives this report -
Formatting /data...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblkop2
Formatting /dbdata...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
Deleting Meta Data
Formatting /cache...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl11
Data wipe complete.
Anyone got any clues as to what i do next? Now, whenever i try to connect to Kies, i get the following message -
Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies.
Obviously, as i can't get to the menu screen, i can't change the connection mode.
you have activated lagfix before.. and this is the problem..one solution is you must flash with odin and with .pit file repartition checked
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
if you say i've used lagfix, then you must be right, but i don't remember using it. what is odin though, & how do i use it? is it operated from the pc?
Kies sucks!
Look like you have never use ODIN and have never mod your SGS.
Follow this thread and download Stock Samsung Firmware and flash via ODIN.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790&highlight=cwm+3.2
Or follow this thread with ODIN screen capture on how to flash.
http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/sho...firmwares-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S-I9000-Download
you're absolutely right, i'm a complete novice when it comes to upgrading my phone.
on those links you sent, one says the phone needs to be rooted, have busybox installed and have ADB installed on your PC, the other says i need to know the firmware. as i can't access the menu, i can't root the phone, or check the firmware. i don't actually know how to root the phone either.
go into this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901
find the right rom-version for your country/device, important is that the csc matches your product-code!
follow the instructions in this thread for installing with .pit and repartition.
(sorry for bumping)
I had the exact same problem. After having spent some time understanding the PIT files logics, I decided to switch from 512 to 803, based on my theory that the space lost might circumvent the defective internal sd sectors.
I flashed the exact same firmware (which was the JW1), and the traditional CF-Root kernel.
Back in CWM Recovery, I can now successfully wipe data / factory reset the phone.
Time will tell if it was a valid situation, my guess is the sd will continue to degrade over time. Well to me it was well worth a try.
I just got a note 2 (i317m - canadian carrier model) that got messed up some how. When attempted to boot the phone it said unable to mount efs partition. My research tells me that partition that contains module info such as IMEI, bluetooth, wifi are stored in that partition. Now I realize why the repair guy wanted $350 to fix it.
Is there a way I can tackle this problem on my own and try and fix it? Apparently there is a tool here in XDA that can wipe the partition but I am not sure if that would rebuild it and allow me to mount it so I can create a new data file with the IMEI number in it.
Where should I start to attempt to fix the problem.
Please note, I can still access recovery (currently TWRP installed) and download mode and use ODIN if necessary to flash back a stock rom BUT can't mount to the computer for any file transfers nor can I boot the android device (stays at samsung logo). I have no issue using ADB is neccessary if I am lead in the right direction. This phone is already trashed in the eyes of the owner so its basically a little project for me to tackle when i have time to kill.

Have you tried flashing your official rom? Flash your official firmware by downloading it from sampro.pl or sammobile.com, flash it with PC Odin under PDA tab.
After you done, don't let reboot your phone, goto recovery by pressing vol up+ menu key then power key(continuously hold it until your phone restarts might be 4~8 secs.) Then check 'Wipe Cache Partition', and then reboot phone.
Yup and nothing worked.
Anyone?
So the only solution is a $300 fix?
I bought a new never used Tab 3 for the intended purpose of using it as a universal remote. I wanted to strip it down and started right away with installing custom recovery, or at least I tried. No matter what I did I was not able to get Odin to properly load TWRP. It went through all the steps but I was not able to get into recovery other than stock.
Fast forward to the next day, I finally get it to work and somewhere in this process I somehow deleted or unmounted (I really am not sure) my efs folder/partition. If I try to reset deleting all cache and wiping everything including pulling the battery for a few minutes and flashing the stock ROM again I get hung up at the "SAMSUNG' logo. I have tried several ROMs and even tried using Odin to flash a new pit file with I found HERE. When I load both the pit file and my ROM into Odin it eventually says 'FAIL'. I can flash ROMs all day with no issue.
I can only assume that the error I am getting in recovery that says E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) is my issue.
Adb is not really an option for me since I have little to none, more like none at all knowledge of using it. I assume since I have flashed several tries that USB Debugging is not enabled anyway and isn't enabling it key to using ADB anyway?
I have been at this for 2 full days searching everywhere and trying everything I see. I am at a loss and hate to think this new Tab is already junk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The EMCC or something like that requires replacement

So I should junk it then? I only paid $80 for this Tab.
One trial you may try to flash a Cyanogenmod based ROM see if it can write out the partitions else if no luck time to replace that item as mentioned
I have tried flashing CM and still the same issues.
I have since found out what my issue is (or at least 99% sure), I somehow wiped out my efs partition completely. So running a new pit file with Odin does nothing because the partition is gone.
This is fixable and easy for someone who knows shell, but I don't. So now I am trying to figure it out. It's a matter of pushing the 6 following files to the phone using the adb push [file] /sbin/ command using adb which I have done, now I need to figure out the rest.
e2fsck
mke2fs
parted
resize2fs
sdparted
tune2fs

you can't do that in the way you think, it requires disassembling the recovery image, making modifications and repacking then reflashing the image.
If you are using an older recovery, namely twrp, install a newer recovery , check @nels83 's thread for a "modern" twrp build.
You can also try one of my philz builds.
Being as you have been abusing Odin, you may actually have damaged your tab.
BUT if you are connecting to wifi without a problem then it's unlikely that you have damaged your efs partition. It's more likely an error with the recovery build you are using, probably in the fstab.

Hi guys (and gals).
Looking for assistance.
Will try and keep this short and simple, but basically my phone is unable to boot and gets stuck in a loop. This happened after having to hard reboot the phone after my daughter enetered kid mode on the latest ICE Rom.
I initially chose to run a custom rom after various attempts to update my phone to nougat via an ota, which was failing all the time despite another recent carrier update to fix the issue.
Unfortuantely I was hasty in doing so and never took note of my cid/mid information and running the commands via adb or fastboot won't returns anything... I'm a bit stuck.
As it stands:
Softare status: Modified
Unlocked
S-ON
I have access to recovery mode in the form of TWRP 3.1.0-0. Any attempts to install a rom fail at various stages (various roms) and any attempts to wipe and reformat also fail with "Failed to mount 'storage'", "Failed to mount 'cache'", data etc. etc.
If I attempt to boot to download mode I get a message stating 'Failed to boot to download mode'.
I looked to try and reformat using adb and pushing ext4fs but it failed. Equally I tried to work out which RUU I need to try and go back to a factory image but I'm unsure which file or img I need.
Could it be a nand issue? If it helps the phone was from EE in the uk and was running on the most recent software version prior to the nougat update.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (serrano3gxx). I was using this ROM and CWM recovery. I really don't know how it happened. My phone shut down and when I booted it, I saw this message "Encryption Unsuccessful", so I was not able to access my storage. Then, I've searched how to fix this. I tried to backup storage in recovery and I got this error every time "Can't mount /system, /cache, /data", even while trying to mount them manually. After a few try (flashing etc.), I've become to not access ROM (also bootloader) and CWM recovery. When I tried to access them, I only got "Black screen" and nothing appeared on screen. Then, I could access "Download Mode". At this point, I've tried to flash another ROMs (including stock ROM) and recoveries via Odin. Firstly, Odin detected my phone but ADB not. Secondly, when I tried to flash something that I mentioned, Odin's log screen stuck on "Initialization" step. I've waited 1 hour only for flashing recovery... Nothing flashed and still stuck same step...
Now, actual situation is that I can't access even Download Mode! Before this, phone was shaking when I plugged it to charger or USB port and tried to power it on. Now, this is also changed, it is not shaking...
Guys, I am saying "wth is it" now. These occurred step by step:
1. Shut down and message "Encryption failed/unsuccessful".
2. Can't mount /system /cache /data.
3. Can't access both of ROM (bootloader) and recovery // Black screen
4. Can't access Download Mode.
Note that, all of required drivers installed, even Kies. By the way, Kies detected my phone but it could not complete loading to recognize.
I've found this article but I don't know if it is solution.
I guess phone's storage is corrupted.
So, my phone's storage is fried? What should I do? Thanks for helps I will get.
Try flashing the complete stock rom not just the recovery. Or find a fix and flash it!!
Maybe you should get a pit file and flash that. Reanimated a S3 mini with that.

As I wrote, I can't access/reach recovery and download mode. How can I do that if you know it? I am still searching how to fix this but it is hopeless case I guess. "getting a pit file" is ok. I found it for a few roms including stock rom. But how can I flash it? I could not find this.
