I use Outlook and Textra. Each time I get an email or text, the screen comes on for a second then goes off. In Textra I have the option to turn screen on set to off. Still comes on. Same with email. Is there a system setting to disable this?

Sometimes when I receive an e-mail, text message, or voicemail, my message light won't turn off.
I have them all set to stay on indefinitely but they should turn off once the new message is cleared.
Any idea what's going on?
When I get a calendar notification my screen turns on and when its in my pocket it stays on. How do I stop this? A notification sound only would be fine.
i'm assuming you're on stock and using the stock calendar. unfortunately the only way to turn that off is by ticking notifications off in the notification settings. by doing this it turns off ALL (ringtone, vibrate, icon in status bar) of your notifications.
you could look into a 3rd party calendar app and see if this is an issue.
Simply lower your screen timeout time.
Is it possible to set it so when you receive a new text message the screen turns on? Right now it only vibrates.. any idea? Snapchat seems to turn the screen on, wondering why texts don't trigger it.. thanks.
Not sure why your M9 doesn't do that, just got the missus to text me whilst the screen was off and sure enough it vibrated, played the notification sound and turned on the screen displaying the text in the middle of the screen
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Free mobile app

If you are using LeeDroid or some other ROMs there is an option to turn on screen when receiving an SMS or MMS.

No matter what I do the screen always turns on when I get a text or email. I have tried different texting apps and I have also disabled screen wake in those apps but the screen still turned on. I think that it must be some phone setting that I haven't found. How can I turn this setting off?
In settings - display there's a setting there, have you turned that off? Ambient Display it is
Thanks! I feel stupid...
