I am currently trying to fix a friend's Xperia Play r800a. It seems to be having a few different problems and together they are making it all difficult to get it going again. First off I have no real knowledge of toying with an Android phone. I browsed some threads on here, used Google and tried to use Flashtool to get the original operating system on it but all were a no go. I'll try and describe the problems to the best of my abilities and maybe someone can offer some help.
This is what I know from what he remembers he did to the phone. He said that the phone started t only boot to the Sony logo and then it would hang until the battery died or the phone was reset. If plugged in with a wall charger then it would allow him to get to the screen where he would enter his password but the touch screen wouldn't work. He then flashed it using Flashtool and at that point it would boot to a black screen and that's it.
-It hangs on a black screen, no logo or anything is present and it happens regardless of whether it is plugged into a wall charger or not.
-It is not found when plugged into the USB port (Windows 7 PC) and shows up as an unknown device. After a few minutes it is found by the PC but sometimes will randomly go back to an unknown device.
-I sometimes get a red light which blinks three times when I press the power button on the phone. I am currently charging it to see if it was a matter of being a dead battery or something worse (I heard it could be a hardware failure).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My Xperia Play has done This I asked a Mate (Jinx13) He said Il do a hardcore Testpoint process. After I have done this My Phone will Vibrate and Nothing I was Playing Rayman today and it Locks and Hardware Keys Do Not respond.
Then Touchscreen Stopped Working. Indeed This is a Hardware Failure I have got this and Re-Flashing with Blinking SETOOL2 and Resseting it Wouldn't work. I Then Re-Locked By fastboot SIM and Bootloader (Maintained DRM) and Now Dowloading R800i O2-UK From SETOOL Support and 3-UK one and I will Upload them for US people for Warranty they Become indeed handy . I now Am Going to O2 shop I was Running 2.3.4 .42 GENERIC.But I am Not allowed to Give you the FW's Only by Re-Uploading I Can. Anyway My Brave Soldier Died (Hardware Failure) Its the Screen Components.Im Not Rooted anymore and Re-locked with S1-Tool.
If this happens to you My advice is Dont Flash Alpha ROM's They can make Your device Coo Coo. And OC can Damage.
Basically I boot My phone with a 3600MAH Mugen Battery 89% Battery From the Last time It was on. Im afraid your friends Phone is Dead Maybe a Hardware Failure Most Likly and I am now Officialy Out of the Game.
But O2 Gave me 3 Year warranty!!!!! For £100 When I Purchased it. So I am Going to O2 in Stevenage and Say this What actually happend:
"I Purchased My Xperia Play on August 17th Through Online Store ; I have never had a Problem With My device Untill This week : I have had these Issues:
*Touchscreen Wont respond Cleaned Several Times.
*Random Reboots
*Red Light when Phone had 50%+ Battery
*Would Take 6 Battery Pulls to Turn on (Would Only turn on Earlier during the week)
*Lagged In games.
*Running O2 Branded Software
*No Screen Brightness or Signs of Working Screen.
*Would Not charge Unless turned On
*Camera Would Not work Unless Wifi Was not on I dont know why?
So Basically This Phone had a A fault since Day one I always had Camera Fails.

okay lol i don't know if that second post helped but is the phone unlocked? by any chance if it is, you can never really brick your xperia, from experience i kept flashing re flashing cusom kernal all day i get the same loops etc, but always fixable, also flash tool should fix your phone if that is you got the right ftf file for the brand like i have verizon and it have a verizon.ftf file, other than that i need more info about the phone not how it bricked, like what was it running at first etc. Try sony software reflashing repairing if that doesn't work use flashtool and see if you get an error with that
I cant enter fastboot or recovery lol

How are you trying to get into Flashmode?

Hello,
I wanted to debrand my htc wildfire s, and after many unsuccessful attempts (main version older) following other tutorials on the forums, I finally went to this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162971
Followed it step by step, everything was as expected until the flash in the end finished and the phone, instead of booting, entered boot loop.
Now when I try to boot it or to enter bootloader, the backlight turns on for a second, turns off after that, then again turns on for a second, off... and etc. It doesn't even show the HTC screen. When I turn it off and connect it to usb - it charges.
I am already assuming the worse, but if anyone has any ideas, it will be great, as this is my girlfriend's phone and I can already see the tears in her eyes when she understands the phone is dead... :'(
Can you get the phone into hboot?
Pull battery,
then put it back in,
then hold volume down and press power while still holding volume down
If luck is on your side you should be in hboot
Unfortunately I have tried that already - still the same backlight on / off / on ... loop. :-/
Try battery out, back in, connect USB, then try to boot into bootloader. See if your PC picks it up. If it does try to issue the fastboot command "fastboot reboot recovery" and see if it goes.
Also does it vibrate when its having its flashy seziure?

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried that also - unfortunately - no vibration (qualcom diagnostics seems to not be the case - unfortunately).
Connecting it to usb brings the orange "charging" light for a 5-10 secs, after that the phone tries to boot and enters the bootloop again.
I think after 5 HTC phones, I will finally have one matching my avatar... :'-(
Hmm. Does the PC pick it up at all?

No, it doesn't
I am probably going to go buy a new identical phone today afternoon...
try going into recovery, wipe data and cache and try again the process

Whoa, I wouldn't be so hasty. Try taking your old one to a service first, it'll cost you a lot less
@johnnyspritz
I am thinking about sending it back to repair, the phone is still under the 2 years warranty. However if they find a way to read the contents of the boot or system partition (JTAG?), they might have some arguments against applying the warranty :-D
Hi Simaka,
Like you my phone is in the same boot loop....
Can't access to Bootloader, no HTC Logo.
I have try to contact HTC, but the mail they send me was out of context ....
If you find any solution, please share it ;-)
Hi, for sure I will. For now I will try to return it in the shop where I bought it as it is still s-on and locked bootloader, so they might agree to take it back. I checked the possibility to buy JTAG connection equipment, but it amoints to 150€ with shipping, plus probably a month or 2 of troubleshooting...
One interestimg thing to note is that during the procedure described on the link above the current rom version in misc.img before editing it was 9.9.9.9
I believe this was a way of artificially imposed restriction so any attempt to update would fail...

Hi,
a few weeks ago my Nexus 5X screen cracked after falling from the table. I ordered a replacement and changed the screen.
After this the phone unfortunately only shows the white "Google" logo after turning it on, it does not start Android. However I can access the recovery menu with the Volume Down + Power button combination. At this point there are not much options: "Start" (green coloured) just leads to the already mentioned google logo. "Restart bootloader" (red coloured) just restarts into the recovery menu again. "Recovery mode" (red coloured) also leads to the white google logo. "Power off" (white coloured) switches the phone off.
The text in the recovery menu says the following:
FASTBOOT MODE
VARIANT - bullhead LGH791 32 GB
HW VERSION - rev_1.0
BOOTLOADER VERSION - BHZ11e
BASEBAND VERSION - M8994F-2.6.33.2.14
CARRIER INFO - N/A
SERIAL NUMBER - 00 ... 0f
SIGNING - production
SECURE BOOT - enabled
DEVICE STATE - locked
Hopefully someone can help me fixing this problem. Additionally I have to say that it would be no problem to delete the data on the phone because there is no important stuff on it.
Thank you and best regards
androdevelop
This is why you should have your bootloader unlocked if there are problems you can reload OS from google.
I think what you may need to do now is use LGUP tot method to recover the phone hopefully.

Hi milan,
thank you for the reply. I should have mentioned that I am not an Android expert. Therefore I am not sure what exactly you mean with the unlocked bootloader and the need for it.
I searched for the LGUP tot method and it seems to flash the firmware of the mobile phone new, could you please explain why this is necessary and what you think is the reason that caused the phone to be stuck in the Recovery Menu?
Best regards
androdevelop
I have found a solution for the problem!
While I changed the screen of the phone the cable of the front facing camera was damaged. After I removed the camera the phone started without problems.
Thanks for your help anyway,
androdevelop

Interesting that it did not boot due to a hardware issue. Thanks for letting us know.
Unlocked bootloader is very good to have if you ever have issues so you can reload your phone. Does not harm the phone or make it less secure or void your warranty. Only down side is when you turn your phone On there is brief message that bootloader is unlocked.
That's up to you though, not a must but good to have of you ever run into software trouble.

I got nexus 7 2013 LTE today from my friend. He said one day device just got stuck at google logo. He suspected it updated itself. Somehow he have managed to delete everything.
Device goes on power normally and stuck on google logo which is normal because it seems there is no rom.
Device goes on fastboot menu and is recognizable from PC.
But when i try to unlock bootloader it stucks on screen after pressing open. If i try to install stock rom it stucks on extrackint part. I use wugs toolkit. Do i need to wait for more time than half hour or is there something broken on my device. I cant test it today but wanted to ask some tips what to use tomorrow when i get home. I really would like to get this work because device itself is allmost perfect condition mostly because its been used on wi-fi hotspot most of its life.
Could there be some issue with Nexus 7 memory? What could i try to get to know what is broken if there is something broken and its not just some system related?
If flo doesn't accept flashing anything into it , then eMMC is dead.
Hello everyone,
to this day I was a happy owner of Nexus 5X - it was doing pretty well, I even installed Pure Nexus ROM on this device to make it even better and this is where the trouble begins. Today I was listening to music on my device when it froze. I was like - "yeah, another freeze, I will just reboot my phone". It didn't help. The phone started rebooting, but it froze again and then the screen went black. Forever. Now my device is not responding to any commands, I can not even charge it. I still have few months of warranty left, so this is where my question begins:
is it possible for LG employees to detect that my device was rooted and so to cancel my warranty if the phone is totally dead? I think that the components died.
Thanks for your help. :good:
I had the same thing happen to me 21 days after my warranty expired. They told me the motherboard was bad and it had to be replace, and it was going to cost $72. My device was fully rooted and they made no mention of that when I asked for the full diagnostic report from their technician. I would say it is safe to say they can't tell if it was rooted if you motherboard went out like mine.
- Side note: my phone crashes almost once a day since I've gotten back and had small cracks in the back from where they pried it open. But I can't go without my phone for another 3 weeks again while they fix it.

Sounds TOO familiar. Like exactly what happened to my first N5X mid-March. I was listening to Spotify, the device's software froze and it never turned on again. I connected it to my PC and I happened to have the dreaded Qualcomm HS-USB QDloader 9008 error (that's what showed up in Device Manager). The only thing I did different and for the first time before that happened was using F2FS. I have no idea if it's related.

Today the diode started to blink red, I connected Nexus 5X to charger and waited ~30 mins to charge a bit. Then I wanted to flash stock system + recovery and unroot but when booting to recovery device again stopped on Google logo and went black. From this moment no sign of beeing alive. I think I'll wait to this situation to happen again and will try to install stock firmware.
Mine would flash red when the battery was completely drained. I could plug it in and get the battery logo, but if I tried to boot it up; the screen would hit to the Google logo and then just go black. I could wait a day and the red battery light would flash again when I pressed the power button. After a few times of doing this, it wouldn't even charge anymore.
Honestly I seriously doubt they have time to go Sherlock Holmes on your phone and void your warranty. They are most likely going to get your phone see if it boots, if not replace the motherboard and go on.
Not to mention if its not responding to anything at this point what do you have to lose. Send it in and see what happens.
This problem is frequent on the Nexus 5x, V10,V20,G4 and G5, the only issu is to use heat gun on the CPU, these devices will starts normally but the problem will appear again

Same thing happened to me
Same thing happened to me last night. I tried everything I could think of, I was running the latest stock Nougat version with no root and all of a sudden the device froze. After manually powering it down, I could not get it to boot up again. No LED, battery charging icon on the screen, nothing worked, so as it was still under warranty, I got in touch with someone at Google. They've sent me a replacement device that's set to arrive tomorrow and I am to return the faulty one free of charge. Luckily my Nexus 4 still works otherwise I would've missed several calls today. I suggest you get in touch and see what they say. I know of cases where despite the phone being rooted, if they were running stock the warranty was still applicable. With your device being completely dead, you really have nothing to lose.
Okay, update - I was able to reinstall stock firmware via Nexus Root Toolkit on this device, because I booted it into fastboot and it worked for few minutes. Bootloader is still unlocked - should I wait and lock it (I don't know when will my phone be accessible again, red diode is blessing right now because it boots when it's blinking) or should I send it to repair without worrying?
I would lock it.
Okay, yesterday I flashed stock ROM + unrooted and now I locked bootloader. However the device still seems to have something wrong inside - it shows that the custom OS is installed on my phone. Should I flash again or do you recommend something else?
It shows: "Your device has loaded a different operating system". (Yellow).
How can I get rid of it?

Try flashing the latest stock package manually. No toolkits. Sometimes toolkits cause flashing issues.

Thanks for your reply. I succesfully flashed the stock image as you said, but unfortunately I couldn't replace recovery - the phone died and can't boot since yesterday. I'm going to take it to LG service, so keep fingers crossed

No worries, you are in luck.
I tried it with oreo and nougat, but it did not work, it keeps freezing.
