Hey y'all so I really recommend checking out youmail, it's a voicemail client for your phone. And once you've checked it out, tell me if you're having the same problem i am. When I go to start > settings > phone > call options: and then try to change the voicemail default number (the number that my phone calls when I press and hold "1") I keep getting an error message saying that the settings could not be saved. However, on tmobile's end, they see the change, but still my phone just calls the regular voicemail number when I press and hold "1"... thoughts? Is there a registry hack somewhere just to make my phone call the correct number when I hold 1?
Thanks!

I wonder if you have to have your device "unlocked". I have changed my voicemail number to my main answering services vm and it works fine.
hmm
Well, I'm fairly certain that my phone is unlocked because I've modded it ALOT. Unless you mean SIM unlocked, in which case I don't think that it is.

I just signed up for YouMail a couple of days ago. Lovin' it. What I did was change my Speed Dial #5 to the YouMail voicemail number. My Speed Dial #1 is still for T-Mobile voicemail. After doing this, my calls get routed to my new YouMail number and not the T-Mo number anymore. It works pretty well for me. When I check the voicemails on the old T-Mo number, it only plays the old messages left before switching to YouMail.
Try using another Speed Dial number besides the #1. I think that one isn't changeable.
what does youmail offer that tmo voice mail doesnt?

YouMail allows you to set custom voicemails for multiple callers. It also allows you to use "Ditch Mail" for telemarketers, blocked callers, and unknown callers. Ditch Mail gives the caller a generic message stating that you aren't receiving calls from blocked or unknown callers and to try again from an unblocked number. Then (here's the clincher) it hangs up. You can also view and listen to voicemails via email. It's great.
Ive had it for a week, and love it! My friends get the silly VM messages... all else get the SMART VM where it states the name of the caller and says Im not available...
great stuff
not a bad solution but...
while changing my shortcut number five to the youmail number will be a nice shortcut to it, does that mean that if i use youmail, i'll neve get a "new voicemail" notification again? it's gonna use up a lot of texts if every vmail i get has to be announced via text message.
you can set it to only send you emails... I have a 300 txt msg plan... and didnt want to eat them up with youmail messages. SO, I set it accordingly.
hmm..
I totally understand that it is possible to do that, and if it comes down to it, I'm fine with that, however, I'd love it if youmail was more fully integrated with my phone. Ergo, if I could change the number for the voicemail system (which youmail says that you can) and receive vmail notifications, it'd be perfect. Does no one in this quite impressive community know where the registry edit would be to change that number? Thanks for all the help!
patiently awaits a response to the previous question.
Youmail offers the chance to have custom voicemail messages to specific callers...one for your love, one for your mom, one for your boss, etc... it will also transcribe voicemail messages and either txt them or email them to you! lots of other finer points... but thats a good overview

Is your service prepaid? If so, prepaid T-Mobile voicemail #s cannot be changed.
contracted
Nope,
I have a monthly plan, and even when I called the guys at tmo about this issue, they said that they can see my trying to change the number, and that it should be changing on my phone. I just need to find out where in the registry that phone finds that vmail number, and to change it. Thoughts?
Wow lol
I can't believe noone responded to you, bro. It's pretty easy. Do the following:
1) Settings
2) Phone
3) Call options
In there you will see Voice mail number, change it to youmail's #.
On the other hand, this service looks pretty promising. Thanks to you guys, I now know about it. I really hope it works in Canada too.
Will try right now
EDIT: Great, It doesn't work in Canada That sucks...Oh Well...One day I guess.
where?
sounds very impressive could someone provide a download link to this app?
The multiple voicemail responses and the voice to text of Youmail sound interesting and I will check it out after this post. Youmail looks better, just wish it had mobile call screening.
I use Callwave free version because it has mobile call screening which allows me to actually listen to the person leave a message in realtime and answer it or ignore it with one button.

Hello all,
Can you help me with these questions? I'd really appreciate it.
1. When I hit the top button, my Incredible locks. I have to unlock it with a password because of Exchange Active Sync policies. Can I instead make it go into a simpler "slide-to-unlock" mode with the top button before the password lock kicks in later?
2. Running stock (out of the box), can it read me my text messages? If not, what app do you recommend?
3. "Install Voice Data" is grayed out in the TTS settings. Does that mean I can't install it or is it already installed?
4. Voice dial gives me only one chance to get a command right. I say a command and I only get "OK" or "Cancel" on the screen.
All of the my previous phones would say aloud what it thought I said and ask me if it was correct or if I wanted to try again. Can the Incredible do that? If not, is there an app that can?
5. No dedicated hard button to activate voice dial or the phone dial pad. Do I need to pair a headset to get functionality like that?
6. Voice dial doesn't recognize first name, last name. It's last name, first name. I forget where, but I can change that, right? Where's that setting?
I appreciate any help!

5. If you hold the search button on the lower right of the phone it goes into voice mode. From there you can search your phone & voice dial from there.
6. Are you sure about that, mine seems to be working correctly by doing the above.
Put some answers inline here.

Android does not support the handsfree profile, so getting a handset won't work to solve this problem. Really stupid, I know.

Had this problem with my hero as well.
How do you take a number down if you are on a call?
ie if on a call asking for a number from the other person how do you write it down and use it for next call?
On nokias, the number you input stays after you hang up, so you can call, save etc.. But on Android, when you hang up the number you input disappears too!
AM i missing a way to do it (short of saving it to contacts (which i might not want to do), or dialling and hanging up)?
you can tap the number you enter which will dial the number you entered followed by immediately ending the call which will store it in your call history and return you to the original call all in about 2 secs. Not exactly elegant but works.
thats pretty much what i do, but its so silly to do it that way I thought ther MUST be a better way. I mean its not exactly a rare or unusual feature to need, is it? ;-)
I normally use a pen......Have done for a while now and it never fails
This applies to the stock dialer - don't know if it works like this on Sense.
Press Add Call, enter the digits. Now long-press the entered number. Select cut or copy. Then back button to cancel Add Call. After the call is over you can paste it back into the dialer the same way or into a contact.
Just tried, didnt work, no long press, any press just dials the number...
Now you've reminded me of another question:
The software usuuuaaaallly recognises number formats in emails or texts, and hyperlinks them to the dialer. HOWEVER Ive never been able to PASTE a number (copied from somehwere that the software didnt recognise as a number) into the sense dialer. Anyone can confirm this is not possible?
I'm unable to paste too on FroYo.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ah, well it was worth a shot. I haven't spent more than a few minutes on a Sense phone so I'm not so well-acquainted with how the dialer works. I can confirm that the stock dialer of both Milestone's Eclair and N1's Froyo has an editable text field, in which one can long-press to get the "Edit Text" popup.
Can a Sense Android use an alternate dialer app?
there are thousands of notes apps thats what there for lol i think even htc has a notes widget for sence (i cant remember) neway yeah use your apps
There is an app which specifically does what you want. It's called Number Saver and it shows up in the notification bar whenever you make a call.
cool, will check it out!
Always weird that someone has to come up with an app for some function that should have been there to begin with, oh well!
I searched for this subject in the forums and didn't find anything so i'm sorry if it's already there.!!
anyway
you all know that there is an alternative way to call your customer service
which is insted of calling their number (i.e 1100) you can just write
*1100# and hit dial
a few options will appear and then you can choose any of them by inserting its number and hit OK.
the problem is
you can't show the keyboard to insert the number..
and also there is no balnk at all to fill it with the number !!
it's a basic thing in any phone.. do you think MS missed it ??
Your wp7 version?
Miss it
Yes, MS clearly miss it big time! I try this one *100# in my country for a long time and didn`t work..also in WP7, also in NoDo...I don`t know in Mango...but it wouldn`t be a surprise not to work. I hope they already did something...

tried it both on Nodo and Mango..
So, it's different from a normal call? Because in a normal call you should have a show keyboard button.
I really don't know what you are talking about.
I have the option to dail *100# which will bring up a Message that shows how much money I have left (prepaid) and it works fine just like on any other phone.
When you dail and you talk to the machine which says "press 1 to go to xxx" you can also use the keyboard to press 1 or enter any code or so.
Why not just copy/paste it the numbers from somewhere to the dialer, or make a contact and copy/paste the number in ?
Why don't you just have an entry for customer services in your phonebook? or just call them? It's easier to call 1100 than *1100#x anyway, surely?
what he means is this:
i dial *123# on my phone. it takes me to MY SPECIFIC operator's menu service. from which, on most phones, i can type 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. to access specific services.
for example, 1 allows me to check my balance. 2 allows me to activate a monthly SMS pack and takes away some money from my pay-as-you-go (prepaid) balance.
now when i type *123# it calls, and then displays the menu in the form of a toast notification (it's a screen similar to the volume up/down song change screen. you know, grey background and all.
the menu says, "Welcome to blahdyblah... enter 1 for x, 2 for y, 3 for z, etc."
BUT. now there's no way to access the SIP (the keyboard). wham, you're stuck.

If you have Face to unlock enabled, and you go to settings, lockscreen, improve facial recognition, another person can add THEIR face and both your face and their face can unlock the screen. I guess it's not really improving the system with how you look in different environments but compares every picture it has of you until it finds a match.
If you make an outgoing call with Google Voice, the display and call log will show the Google relay phone number, not the contact phone number. That was handled correctly on my Galaxy S3 on Verizon.

The S-Pen is way too sensitive, the phone registers strokes and taps from over 1/2" above the screen.
(I've tried whacking it on a hard surface, and holding the button then touching the screen. Not brave enough to pry off the button and tweak the pot).

I was wondering what the hell those numbers were. I just noticed that today and had no idea where those numbers came from! Is that a system problem or a google voice app problem?
If you go to the the gallery from the camera app by clicking the little icon in the bottom left then if you try to go to the entire gallery by clicking the gallery icon on the top left corner the phone takes you back to the camera app instead of the gallery app as it should. It is actually very frustrating.

S-Voice not speaking your text msg + Vpoice dialing issue
2 items I have noticed:
1) If I voice text someone, S-Voice will confirm the person's name BUT not speak out the message before asking if i want to send it.
2) When trying to voice text someone who has more than 1 telephone number in their contact info like Work, Home, Mobile, S-Voice will often (I can't say as yet if it is everytime) state that the person has more than one number asking me which one I wish to use instead of defaulting to the mobile number.
What I can say is S-Vopice over BT has never worked so well for me vs. what I had with my GNote 1 using Voice Talk.

Are you sure it's not AT&T's Smart WiFi app doing this? Make sure it's turned off.
I don't have this problem on my stock unrooted phone, but I remember on my Note 1 being surprised that the WiFi was always on, even when I turned it off, and it turned out this app was the culprit.

This is what I do. "Send message to John Smith's mobile. Meet you at the bar." Be sure to say "mobile" (you can either pronounce it mo-bill or mo-byle Then it'll automatically select their cell number. She'll respond back and when you're ready, say "yes" or say "send".
You can also say "Send message to John Smith's home..." It'll select John's Home # but of course, the message won't be received, I don't think, unless their home phone has a feature that receives text messages...

S Planner Tasks Do Not Sync To Google Calendar
This is not really a bug.
While events created in S Planner flawlessly sync to the Google Calendar, tasks do not sync.
In gmail app, while looking at the content of an email, swiping leftwards to go to the next email often results in just the title of the next email loading. Sometimes can take quite a while. If I go back to the inbox and click on the email entry I want to look at directly it loads fine.

Yup, same to me.
Add in there that if you have a contact's name that is in the format of Salutation LastName such as "Dr. Who" or "Mr. T" or "Ms. Parker" with no first name, s-voice doesn't properly pronounce it when it tells me "Calling Dr. Who". Specifically, Dr. is "Drive"... now that's just silly.
Another s-voice issue, response gets slower the more you use it. When I first started, I'd get answers back quickly. Now it takes 10s. I should go clear its cash I suppose.
Only reason I'm sticking with it is because it actually works unlike the offering from google (which seems to dislike my accent; works fine when others have used it.. I had the same problem playing with friends' siri implementations).
