Hello, I am new to android, I was an iPhone user, I followed all the tutorials and now I have a fully rooted device, partitioned SD card, Latest Radio and MoDaCo Custom ROM 2.0.
I noticed that when I run Custom Locale I can see Arabic support, but when I apply it, I only see squares instead of fonts!
Does that mean that there is Arabic support now but the font is missing? Can anyone please help me understand what's going on? or how can I add fonts to test Arabic support?

I pushed the Deva vu fonts to the hero, now I can see Arabic but the letters are not connected! What's interesting is; seems like HTC translated everything to Arabic, I hope that means we will see Arabic support when they release the update.

Correct. It appears that more work needs to be done. Someone had already come up with a Thai and Herbrew language pack, so it is theoretically possible for someone who is familiar with Arabic to create an appropriate font pack that can be pushed to the device using ADB, or even as an update.zip.
However, I'm venturing to guess that most of the participants in this forum are not fluent in Arabic, hence any demand for Arabic will be highly dependent on finding someone who will invest time and effort in getting the font packs done.
I'll look into it...

Please Modaco we need just to support Arabic to read and write in SMS and surfing Internet.
If you need help to improve Arabic in you ROM we pleased to help you.

I hope my Hero supports Arabic ASAP, most probably modaco can do it the fastest (please modaco? ) as HTC might take a while since the Hero wasn't officially released in the Arab countries.

You can directly download a rom from the sources and roms topics over here.
Normally Simplied Chinese will be included in most of the roms.
The MIUI roms are made by people from China, which makes that maybe for you the most reliable ones to use.
But you first got to have root permission on your telephone.
Just try the explain the situation of you mobile.
and i will try to give you the best of advice.

Hello guys, I want to learn to port android roms. I read quite a lot about it on android.google. I understood quite a lot but not at all enough for porting a new rom. I did not understand how to make drivers for Xperia M(not available on their developer website either). And I did not read further as It went all over my head after that . I want to learn how to build a new rom from scratch. I do not want to use cynogen mod builds, Android Kitchen or pre-built roms. I want to make my own rom the google way(using stock resources provided by google). I need a person as a Mentor for it and loads of resources that will help me achieve it. I am a beginner level C/C++ and Java developer. I realize I do not have enough knowledge for it but that is why I need your help. Lead me to where I can gain this knowledge. Any one who would like to take this novice as his/her disciple will have my gratitude for life time.
