And before complaining, I'm assuming you've turned on the big "remove lens distortion" option, correct?
Just posted about this in another thread. Arm stretched out, the pics look great. But up close it's the most distorted and disturbing image ever. HORRIBLE implementation by Samsung.

Did you try using the front flash for the selfie?

Its called Shape Correction. Well at least that's what it is called on my Sprint variant.
worst selfie camera ever with the distortion, lack of sharpness, and terrible quality
shape correction is off by default on Sprint version
I broke the camera when I took a selfie No seriously, stop taking selfies, look in a mirror
My camera is broken. It makes me look too good.
Not a sharp/crisp image at all. No idea what the auto focus is looking at but it's not me. I tried turning off HDR, all the effects, etc and just never could get anything NEAR as clean as what my 6P produces with great consistency.
Check out this side by side. The difference is staggering. 6P is not as bright but way too much post processing being done.

Camera quality is great on any OxygenOS ROM. Front selfie cam also is very clear and well designed. Love it so far after a month or so of usage.

Uh ... very few 'flagship' phones have a front flash, even today. I'd have preferred a dual tone REAR flash ... but meh, it still works.
I'll admit it, the dog is really tough to get in a photo without blur. He doesn't sit still much. But I like this one.

For me the lack of dual tone flash isnt a big deal, as I rarely use the flash even in low light conditions.
They should have done the front flash the same way as Snapchat did it, making the screen go bright white while taking the picture.

I agree. It's a simple software trick, and LG used it on the G4 as well.
I've found the selfie quality to be really good.
you really have to keep it steady otherwise it'll not be a nice picture. because you see every little movement later on.

Guys I get really noisy selfies at even moderate indoor lighting.. Shooting upto 1500 to 5000iso..any problem with my device???
Also the general selfie quality is lesser than my g4 in good lighting too the background subjects r blurry.. I'm on 3.2.6 is it a firmware issue

They can still do this, right? Isn't it software-based?
Whenever i try to take group selfies, the front subject(person holding the phone) comes out sharp and others at the back are blurred out. Why?? Are you guys facing the same problem? Please help

What? Its not a joke. Just go through threads over here/OnePlus forums about camera quality.
here is one: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/op3-camera-blurry-after-post-processing-oos-3-2-7.470510/
And that is for rear cam too. Selfie cam is the worst.
I don't know about the issues you all are facing, but for me my OP3 has one the best front facing cameras. Whenever we are out in a group, they always borrow my phone. 17.3 GB out of the 54GB is all selfies.

Excuse the torn bed sheets xD
It doesnt matter. But no, the quality shouldnt be influenced by that, though. :good:

Word. I'm facing the same issue. Any fix for this?
Regarding the camera sensor in low light. If I switch to video, I can see a lot of noise. It's so grainy. White noise in the background. Is it an expected behavior?
It's highly present when compared to other phones under same lighting situations. And iif I'm in Video mode, and completely cover the camera lens, so much noise is there. See screenshot
So you are covering the camera lens and shooting video in a zero light conditions and complaining about the noise, right? That reminds me of a shooting a photo with a lens cap in cameras. Well. The answer is pretty straight forward - the ISO sensitivity is bumped to its limits, you'll always see a nice colorful noise on your pictures. There is nothing wrong with the camera and it is not disappointing. If shooting videos in these conditions is your thing though, you should consider changing a hobby maybe as the results will never be satisfying.

Lol. No I don't shoot stuff with the lens covered. Just for pointing out the noise I posted a pic with the lens covered. I thought there wouldn't be this much noise and something was wrong with my phone sensor. In reviews people say low light photography is good, but since I was seeing this noise was paranoid.
So to be clear... Cause I don't want to go to replace if it;s expected behavior. There will be this much noise under artificail light / low light in video and a little bit lesser in camera?
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the OnePlus 3T come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

Use HQ mode for low light still shots, I find this helps a lot with noise and overexposure, HDRa for all others. Also if you are interested you can shoot raw and develop them with snapspeed. The photo on the left I took was a raw image developed by snapspeed. Pure raw lack any post processing so look awful but allow might greater image tuning due to not being compromised to jpeg.
Camera is very acceptable (not that of My S7 Edge) however it is to my liking....

What is better, hq or hdr?
Outdoors are fine. 2 stars because as soon as you are shooting moving subjects, even tiny moves, the pictures become unusable, blurry mess

Agreed. Photo quality of moving objects is horrible (probably the biggest flaw of OnePlus 3T) and indoors (regular everyday lighting you have in indoors) is quite ****ty. Most of the pictures come out quite blurry. Outdoors is fine!
I actually have discovered that in order to get better indoors pictures you have to set Flash to always ON as it really helps to improve image quality, especially regarding the sharpness, blur and better detail overall.

I think HD got renamed to HQ which we have now.
¨
But basically HDR tries to get both bright and dark areas in the pictures to shown without them being totally black or white. Doesn't always mean that picture is better quality tho, can be a lot worse what it comes to noise etc.
Not sure is this correct but found that HQ mode will reduce the noise when taking pictures in dark.

Turn off HDR and HQ (which increases the shutter speed to pick up more light) also manual controls are there to help.

Good point. I mainly need phone camera to take pictures of my kid and I can say that it's pretty much impossible to get good/decent quality indoor pictures while taking a picture of a kid (HQ, HDR modes), except if you set the flash to always ON, where even moving objects come out are pretty good.
If with all my previous phones (no particular order, but phones with which I had no issues taking fast quality pics of my kid -> Iphone 7, xiaomi mi5, galaxy s6, nexus 5x, xperia Z3, xperia Z3 compact) I had no issues getting a decent quality picture of a moving object, with 1+3T its either impossible or very hard to do. It's a fact. Camera is average at most.

If light is very good, acceptable selfies. Indoors, even with good light, usually very blurry shots
Indoors, nothing but TV for light and taken straight from Allo
At low light in front of my monitor:
beautify mode of the cam/app is the best, makes my ugly face so sweet !
for real, its pretty decent (the front cam).
With 16mp front camera the photos look crisp and sharp. Nothing bad to say about it.
Seems fine with or without beauty mode it's almost same for me
absolutely amazing with the 16m front camera

The front facing camera has fixed focus, made so that the subject is in focus when the phone is at arms length. this photo looks like it was taken with a selfie stick so you were not in focus.

Well that explains it...are you aware of any work around for this? I imagine the limitation is the software.

I believe that it it a hardware limitation, so I'm not sure how a software upgrade or any workaround might help significantly. Maybe you might want to try the back camera instead or use the front camera at arms length, or be somehow lucky to find a clip-on lens that can either increase the camera's field while somehow still keeping the correct focus distance or a clip-on lens that will correct the focus when the device is on the selfie stick.
Good!
The front camera is really good. Clean and bright selfies. Love it.

I've been taking a lot of photos as of late, both with the front and rear cameras. I've noticed for a while that the selfie camera doesn't really produce clear and crisp images the way my old 2XL did. I've come across a thread where some folks have encountered the same issue, and wondering if anyone else here is experiencing this?
I've included a link that best shows exactly what I'm talking about, although the person isn't me in the thread.
If the camera is this bad I hope it can be fixed.

I have the same issue and it is frustrating, I also tried with 3rd party apps but still, the selfie images are kinda blurry. Is this a software issue or a hardware issue?
I've noticed the same compared to my 4xl. The selfies under lower than normal light come out a bit blurry or not as good as I remember them on my previous phone.
The front camera is a fixed focus lens. Physically it has a sharp spot and only that spot is sharp, the rest of it is all processing.
No real way around physics and lack of autofocus.
