1/16/17 update N920AUCS4CPL1 - - looks like another security update

I just got another monthly update for my AT&T Note 5 labeled N920AUCS4CPL1 with the December 1, 2016 security patch included. I can't find anything else on this update but again, it looks like another security update - - NOT Android 7.0+

@mattern1974, did you take a screenshot or something? What does the about device screen say?

Edit: I also use Nova Launcher since I like the speed and customization over the stock Touchjizz.

Can someone please post a link for adb push or odin files, so we can update our n920a as we are not in USA?

Wow---this update is KILLING my battery. Google play services is running in the background like crazy. I've lost 10% in 2 HRS with little use where as before the update I would have lost 10% by 2 PM---UGH! Anyone else having this problem?

I updated to PK1 the day I got my phone (last week Monday).
The battery life for me has been superb (since I flashed through ODIN and started setting it up from scratch).
I want to get PL1 (for peace of mind), but I don't have an AT&T SIM card, so I'm waiting for a complete file that I can flash through ODIN.

I don't want anymore updates because I'm almost out of equipment contract now and I want to hack my Note 5. I wasn't aggressive about this until recently but somehow I had auto update on. So my phone started the download but I rebooted it and stuck it in the microwave.. (panic style) Then I tried to downgrade to 5.11 using the PH4 and the PH2 firmwares in succession but PH4 soft bricked me. Then I tried flashing N920AUCS4CPK1. and I got success. Wiped it all back to November 2016 security patch. (I dunno if this works after it installs, I have a sinking feeling it will not work.. There is no firmware available with Dec 2016 security patch that I'm aware so no way to recover if I'm correct in assuming the bootloader is blocking me from downgrades)
Edit: I want stress that fact that my phone never said Dec 2016 security patch, during all this it was still Nov 2016 patch

With AT&T bootloaders, I thought that was always the case.
You WILL take the update when Nougat arrives. I'm eager to know when that will be. I have no intention of rooting my device to trip Knox.

Updating now

I find another update from S4CPL1 to S4CQA1 I think this is January security update but AT&T did not released yet. If someone whan to try it is ADB sideload or from sd-card. Remember if you go for it will erase your data. So backup your phone first.

I don't have Note 5

It seems I'll have to wait unit the next big update is released. I have the N920A, but AT&T is not my carrier so I can't get that OTA. I'm currently on PK1. My device is stock and unrooted since I have no intention of tripping knox at the moment.

With a locked bootloader, it will probably stay unrooted. I don't know of a root for it, would be nice if there was one. I think 5.01 bootlaoder got unlocked... But I keep looking...

Check the file to norbarb post, and send to your phone via ADB, you can search in google how can you send ota by adb, its easy. Send OTA via adb donesnt affect knox, its install manually OTA.

Will the Verizon version still get updates if using a T-Mobile sim ?

I have a original note 7 from Verizon , still on the 1st build it shipped with and everything . This is the first model that was effected by the recall. I've tried disabling the ota updates but package disabler isn't workin , keeps saying license failed .. even tried downloading a older 6.3 version and same thing .. other then rooting is there a way to disable OTA Updates? Or I may not get them anyway since it's T-Mobile sim in a Verizon phone ?

Another update?

Today my phone was charging, and I turned the screen on to notice that there's another update after the 7.0 update. Any clue what this is? I don't have any access to WiFi at the moment to find out. Can you get security updates even when you're not on the latest Android firmware? Or could this be a 7.1 update(I doubt this, but remain hopeful)? I have the AT&T k425 variant in case any is wondering.

I got it as well doing a manual update must be a bug fix i let you know as it almost done on my phone

just a security patch must of been a exploit or issue

Hi, I have pixel xl on tmo and I'm still on August security patch.
For some reason my phone isn't getting the update..
Anyone else is having the same issue?

Were you in the beta program? Try opting out. Ironically, I had to opt out and back in to get my update. I'm on Fi though...

Of course there's the easy way too, just unlock the bootloader and flash with fastboot. You can also, if you don't want to unlock the bootloader, side load the OTA via stock recovery.

Same issue here. I'm dead stock and opted out of the Beta program and can't pull down the September OTA. I guess I'll have to sideload it :/

I am having the same issue. I even did a full reset a few weeks ago. After the P update, I could barely use my phone, it would take forever to get anything to work. Finally sideloaded yesterday with no issues.

ATT samsung tab s pie firmware

I bought a used ATT branded Tab s4. It is unlocked and I really love the tablet but im unable to get any system updates like pie or security updates. Its still on 8.1 and when i try to update it says that its got latest software. Any one know how I can update to pie? I called ATT and since im not a customer they were not helping me. Thanks in advance

Try to download an update directly from samsung and install it with ODIN

so I soft bricked my tab s4 using odin to flash pie update. im stuck in boot loop. im kind of new to this. any one know how I can fix this.

Having the same issue here. I've tried:
- Hard reset
- Using my AT&T sim chip to get it on the 4g network, turning off wifi
- Using Samsung Smart Switch
None of the above would yield any updates past 8.1. It just keeps saying I have the latest of everything. Gah!

I was in the same situation for over a year and a half and finally i managed to update by flashing it.
On an unlocked ATT TAB S4 i flashed , T Mobile ROM and Verizon ROM (Both PIE).
Download the Roms from SAMfirmare and flash with ODIN, you do not require to ROOT it since all these models are SM-T837A (ATT), T837V (Verizon), T837T (TMO).
I think T Mobile ROM is the best as it has Call & Text on other device option and Feb 20 Security update Patch.

Actually I managed to solve it a different way:
1. Put in active AT&T SIM chip.
2. Do a hard reset & wipe.
3. Don't put it on wifi during initial setup (unsure if this helped or not, but I erred on the side of caution).
4. Complete basic initial setup.
5. Check for software updates while on the AT&T network.
6. Many updates came through in succession.... first the update to Pie, then a half dozen smaller security updates.
7. Put the phone back on wifi and pulled my SIM chip out.
8. Enjoy.
