Hello World! - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm a bit new around here and I'd have a few quick questions.
I want to see what a few custom ROMs have to offer and I have a few spare phones to play around with.
LG G2 mini
LG G2
LG G3
Which of these should I mess with? The mini seems the most expendable and is in factory fresh condition while the other two are all set up and in use. Also I know about roughly only cryanogenmod, any other stuff I should look into?

G3 can be recovered even from hard brick.
You can easily go with that.

Go with the g3 and try exodus, its the best rom I tried!

Allright, I'll give it a try. Thanks! Exodus looks interesting, I'll think I'll be switching roms till I find one that fits. Going for something preferably barebones.

You can give a try to Fulmics 5.3. It's really awesome.

For LG G3 you have to consider Fulmics as stock-based rom: much stable and customizable.
As CM-based rom I can't forget to cite Resurrection Remix: it's absolutely the most featured rom, there is no competitor at all.
However v5.7.3 seems to be unstable. Wait for v5.7.4.
As AOSP-based rom try Dirty Unicorns: full featured but lacking some CM setting (like LiveDisplay) and CM app (File Manager and others).
Are you interested to kernels too?
The best ever is Gabriel-MM (for stock-based rom only).
You can use Kernel Adiutor, Synapse with modded UKM or modded Stweaks to customize it under many aspects.
For AOSP/CM try aCC Kernel: the worthy heir of Nebula Kernel.
Full customizable with Kernel Adiutor or its modded version purposed in thread.
However it seems suffering charging issues on v1.6. I hope to be wrong.
Gold luck with your LG G3... I forgot, as recovery you may consider not only the official TWRP, but the modded one too purposed in thread.
It provides some improvements and other backupable partitions like modem and efs.

[Q]Could someone please develop an optimized and updated CM12.1 kernel?

So I've tried all the ROMs, I've tried Stock (When I first got the phone) I then tried CM12.1, then FlexOS, then back to CM, then BlissPop, then back to CM, then Cloudy's ROM, then Back to c-... you get the idea.
I looked in to trying to compile my own kernel, because frankly there isn't an updated d855 CM12.1 kernel to be seen anywhere that has features to make CM the least bit smooth and I decided that with my coursework becoming a bigger part of my life that I would simply have no time to put in the work (Or the knowledge).
So what I'm asking is simple, can someone please compile a custom kernel for cm12.1? I love this ROM, the lack of customization features is a feature in itself for me considering I love AOSP, CM is perfect for my usage but I just need a custom kernel so that it can be complimented and optimized for the G3, thanks.

[Q] Not able to customize my LG G3

Hello friends,
I am quite new to this forum also new to rooting and using custom ROMs on my G3.
I have my G3 for about 8 months now and have already upgraded to android 5.0 (OTA). I want to customize my G3 as much as I can !!!
I have installed G3 Tweaksbox but its not working, it is giving me an error message "Xposed Framework is missing". I have read on some threads that Xposed has not been finalized yet for Lollipop and it is not advisable to install it. So I cannot go through G3 Tweaksbox for customizing my G3.
The second option was to install a custom ROM. For this, I have already rooted my G3 and already backed up my data. I was about to install BlissPop V3.5 when I came across a thread saying if I install a customize ROM, I will lose some cool features of my G3...like knock code, auto-focus and other specific features of LG.
I know you guys are expert in these things and therefore wanted your help on how to be able to fully customize my G3 without losing those cool features?
Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Roy
There are two types of options in custom ROMs: Stock-based and AOSP/CM based.
Customizability:
Hands-down, AOSP wins the customizability contest. Many of the features you would need to use Xposed for in stock-based are already baked into AOSP.
Camera:
Stock-based lets you use the stock camera, the software and drivers for which are proprietary; it's might quick and accurate, even if it does not allow manual adjustments.
The default AOSP camera is okay. Many of us opt to replace it with a port from another device. The Motorola cam is nice and the M9 cam is fantastic (I'm working on a few tweaks to make it work better with the G3). Point is: the choice is yours.
Knock-on/off:
The knock-on code is an LG feature, so stock-based ROMs only.
Some AOSP ROMs allow you to knock on and knock off, but no pattern detection is incorporated with it.
QRemote:
This has been ported to AOSP and works great. The only thing that isn't there is having it in the pull-down menu.
So, it's a trade-off. There is no perfect ROM, unless you find something that is perfect for you. For me, although I sometimes miss the LG camera, the features and tweaking ability of a good AOSP ROM are a clear win. My suggestion is dump stock altogether, install a cleaned up stock-based ROM and play with it for a while. Then make a backup, wipe and install a good AOSP ROM like CyanideL or BlissPop to get a feel for that. Then stick with what you prefer. Heck, I've restored my Jasmine ROM just for the camera on one occasion!
Thanks epidenimus
Hi epidenimus thanks a lot. I think I will go with a stock based ROM that can still contain the g3 features . Another nice feature is the quick circle case all which I assume will still be there in the stock.
Can you suggest me which custom ROM to go for and where to get it?
Thanks again

I do not use quick circle cases, prefer something that can really protect the device. However, I can tell you that CyanideL (AOSP/CM) does have settings for it baked it, so it may well work in some of the AOSPs.

Would need to know your variant (e.g. LS990, VS985, D851...) in order to point you in the right direction. You may start by looking in the more specific thread for that device, if there is one. Generally, the stock-based ROMs are specific to a variant; AOSP sees more porting to different variants and devices.
Thanks again.....I am using LG D855....international and unlocked

Best clean rom?

Hello,
Its a long time ago that i rooted and put a custom rom on a android phone
Now i have a question.
What is the best custom clean Google experience rom, with a good battery life?
Greetzzz
What is your device that you are looking a ROM for?
The lg g3 d855 with the 3gb ram version.
The most i want vanilla Google
If you want a vanilla google experience then I would recommend Cyanogenmod or Mokee. These are probably as cm/aosp (I am pretty sure Mokee is cm based but don't take my word for it) based as you can get. You could also flash Paranoid Android 5.1.1 but the devs unfortunately have gone to work on oxygen OS.
If you want an aosp based rom with tweaks (Layers support): At the moment I would probably recommend XenonHD (in my opinion one of the smoothest roms and good battery life (for me anyway)). If you want nova launcher pre-installed I would recommend BrokenOS.
If you want a cm based rom (with tweaks) (CMTE support): Well I am running RR (Resurrection Remix) at the moment and I am loving it. I'm not sure if I am allowed, but if you want nova launcher pre-installed then I would recommend cyanide L.
I am assuming you know who cyanogenmod are. If not, I don't want to say anything that will get me flamed to oblivion by the community but they essentially make roms extremely close to google aosp.
Haha yes i know what cyanogenmod is
4 years ago i built my own custom rom but since then i stopped with developing anything for Android (bussy at my college).
Only functions i dont wanna lose is laser focus, 4k filming, knock on, and quick circle because i have a quick cover.
Then, the only possible rom that I think that you can flash without losing laser focus, 4k filming, knock on, and quick circle is novastock aosp styled. If you want quick circle you can install the quick circle theme app. I am pretty sure that you can flash a custom camera for 4k filming.
You will lose knock on. And for laser focus you will lose if you flash anything other than stock (I am pretty sure).
If you want a vanilla google experience you should flash one of the ROMs I suggested. But if you want to keep all those features the closest ROM that I can recommend is novastock 1.1 aosp styled.
Ah okay, thats the problem for me to put a custom rom on my phone, because i wanna use these functions.
Then your best bet would be novastock 1.1 aosp. It has all the functions and the devs try to make it as close to aosp as possible

And cloudyg3?
Cloudyg3 is a stock based ROM but will look like LG and feel like stock. With novastock it's themed to look like aosp. Also, cloudy has been stopped being developed

Ah okay yeah i dont want a stock rom with a themed aosp over it, i rather then have the stock rom.
Haha i just will start first rooting my phone and then look futher tnx for your help!
No problem

Now keep in mind with stock or in my case cloudy i use exposed modules and it is almost completly themeable i download keyboard themes from lg smartword but i love it all the themeing i need on mine is done througb exposed

best rom to use on SGH M919

After flashing rom after rom I have not been able to find a stable rom that has good battery life that is also very customizeable. So i have reverted my galaxy s4 to stock and want to know what I9505 rom is the most stable one that also have good battery life that i can customize? also how to flash it?
Favorite theme to use with any TW KK rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2657344
Bloatware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514703&page=19 or google smart debloater

Have fun @Caliboy93
Thank you lordodin912! I just came from an LG G2 (broken screen) and wanted to get the lay of the land as well. I think for now I'll stick with stock rooted; that's what I did on my G2, but I will keep that rom in mind in case I feel like branching out.
I'm a little nervous about CM or other AOSP roms. I love the idea of them but there's always something broken. As you suggested it may be a better idea to stick with TW roms for now.

At least have a custom recovery (backup of clean install) then debloat (speed/battery life) and deodex (if you want to theme). And if all goes well make another backup. Then start using xposed.
The issues with CM/AOSP are mostly bluetooth related atm, camera was improved recently. CrDroid with synergy kernel or VRToxin are good ones to try. You can always look into dual booting, no need to be nervous....just make sure to back up your IMEI/EFS and have a copy of the stock firmware tar before starting anything.
Golden EYE i9505 rom also works for t-mobile. Been using it since last june and its pretty stable and decently fast. -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2427629
use philz cwm touch recovery and pick Ael kernel during options.

[Q]Stable Custom ROM

Dear All,
I'm looking for stable custom rom (if possible lollipop/marshmallow) for my e988 4g KitKat device, especially that can save battery usage. Do you guys have any refference?
There are so many custom rom but i'm difficult to find the plus and minus side of those rom.
Ive been looking to cm site, but unfortunately they are not available anymore
Thankyou
Look, most AOSP ROMs have same issues: camera crashes, bluetooth connection problems etc. etc. Everything else is pretty much same. People were mostly using SlimLP and Carbon, some used Bliss but I think there is no download link for it. Slim and Carbon use a bit more customizable kernel (dave used my kernel for as long as he built Carbon, and SlimLP has just a bit newer version of it, with GPU issues fixed completely).
My choices were Slim and (later, after Slim stopped updating their Lollipop sources) PAC (built for personal needs, no uploads) so if you want AOSP, go with SlimLP or Carbon. Carbon was working nicely too, and last time I had Bliss installed was somewhere after Lollipop just started, so can't judge how last versions worked.
If any of this is not good enough, try any of these stock roms, if any still available. I can't recommend anything from there simply because I never wanted to use those - if stock was that good, I'd stay on it
P.S. This device never received Marshmallow updates due to insane amount of work someone had to provide. I had few attempts but never moved over some issues with modem. More in the forums...
Thank you for the explanation, i will look more for Carbon in Android Development threads.
I've been using this daily: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70801465&postcount=720

Were there any MM kernels ever compiled that you know of? Could someone with enough time and work be able to successfully compile a working rom? A bit of a developing noob, but have two E980s and plenty of time on my hands.

Yes, mine I was probably only one who worked on Marshmallow, but sources are now long gone, drive I've kept my repo is dead and I haven't uploaded that anywhere.
I've been using Carbon KK for several months and it is very stable and smooth. I've never used MM so not sure how it compares, but it has all the features I need to keep using this phone every day.

Resurrection Remix 5.5.9 + WildKernel works quite good for me on E986
