Global Rom Questions - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hi
I have just received my Mi Max 126gb Helium from GeekBuying.Com and it has been pre-loaded with the MIUI Global 7.3.1 Stable.
My questions are:
1. I didn't think there was a global rom for helium or is that just MIUI8 global?
2. Can I flash MIUI8 over this version and retain OTA?
3. Can I trust the version that is on?
Thanks for any help.
Paul.

1. Fake, no official global rom for helium yet
2. I guess you can(not a miui user)
3. I wouldn't

Yeah, you most likely have tampered MIUI firmware on it. You can try to flash MIUI8 via the updater app, but you'll probably get an error. You can try to unlock your bootloader and flash the official MIUI ROM via fastboot or flash via EDL mode with locked bootloader.

The seller flashed the system.img from the Hydrogen Global rom on it so you have the google apps. To go back to stock you have to flash the latest Chinese Helium ROM (either the Miui 8 developer rom or the Miui 7.5 stable rom.) Then I would unlock your bootloader then flash twrp and either my Rooted Global Rom for the Helium or something based on CM13.

Thanks for all your replies, I appreciate it.
In the end I used DoomSlayer's method of getting TWRP on without unlocking BL. I then installed ajsmsg78's global MIUI8 rom and it's all sorted.
Recommend the global rom from ajsmsg78. Looks and feels great.
Thanks again to all who replied.

are there any better rom options based on MIUI which receives ota updates?
thank you in advance

Official global rom's dont updating....now the latest version is China stable 8.2.5.0....but global stable is stayed in 8.0.3.0.....xiaomis not updating GLOBAL OFFICIAL ROM FOR MI5S....but now coming Global developer rom 7.5.18....it is good for ota....but if you dont want dev Rom...you can Root your mi5s and flash Xiaomi.eu rom....its unofficial Global Miui....and very good and stable for use....Xiaomi.eu is based on China Stable latest version but without Chinese content and with more Supported languages....
Except that Xiaomi.eu stopped their OTA support.

except as you're on 8.0.3 you're s**t out of luck - you can't update, you can't root because you can't unlock - unless you use a deep flash cable and MiFlash a different Miui ROM with OEM unlock status available.
then you can unlock, and flash any ROM

On the first attempt error occurred in 50%, so I uninstalled the driver and installed again, That's it!
Edit: I used the software from Xiaomi.
I'm using official global 8.2.1.0, is it possible to install the global dev 7.5.18 without error ?
I mean, I tried to do it using TWRP but, again, it got stuck during installation. I know it's possible with a fastboot version, but we don't have it.

Can I install MIUI 8.7.26 (MIUI10) without worrying about ARB?

I have a Redmi Note 5 Global with MIUI 9.5.19, and I want to install 8.7.26 (MIUI10) because I can't unlock my bootloader yet (14 days to go).
My question is: can I do that safely without bricking my device? And can I go back to MIUI 9.5.19 if I wanted to?
Thanks!
I did same thing and it worked flawlessly.

You have a locked bootloader? You used a recovery ROM or a fastboot ROM (MiFlash tool)?
Thanks!

Just update through the phones settings with the zip file. You might need to try different MIUI 10 versions. There is always only one version you can go to from your current MIUI 9 version. Took me 4 tries but now it's working great

I flashed MIUI 8.7.26 through the method you mentioned without issues, but it has so many bugs, especially with notifications on lockscreen that bother me so much. Do you know if I can revert back to global stable MIUI 9 with the same method without issues with ARB?

Downloading an EEAROM for use with Xiaomi Mi Flash Redmi Note 8T

Hi all,
First of all please bear with me as I am a total noob when it comes to Android let alone the Redmi Note 8T I have just purchased the phone and now waiting for the 360 hours to expire. Tick tock...
So in preparation I have been looking for ways to flash my phone to the MIUI EEA ROM (I have a global version running global ROM). I know MIFlash should be able to do the trick, but it seems to me there are two types of ROM files - one for the OTA update (i.e. so you would copy the file over to the phone, then use the system update feature within the phone's setting to invoke the update process), and another type of ROM files for use by MiFlash.
Assuming this is true, so far I could only manage to find the OTA update ROM for EEA:
h<spacer>ttp<spacer>:/<spacer>/en.miui.com/download-361.html#588 (sorry new users aren't allowed to post links hence this. Please copy and delete the spacers)
Does anyone know where I could grab a copy of the EEA ROM that I could use with Mi Flash so after my phone eventually gets it bootloader unlocked, I could proceed with the switch from Global to EEA?
Or am I getting this whole concept wrong?
Thanks and cheers !

well...if you want to change to another region rom then using phone's updater app won't help...you have to flash through mi flash.

Use eu, xiaomi.eu
If you willow (Note 8T) choose stable version because willow doesn't have weekly build.
so it must be this link.. https://sourceforge.net/projects/xi...HMNote8T_V11.0.7.0.PCXEUXM_v11-9.zip/download
and you need root and unlocked bootloader to install it via twrp.

I actually hope someone answers this question because this phone is very different than any other phone I have and it's hard figuring out the best way to do things on it.

The best way is to flash the stock with miflash. (Remember to select the checkbox at the bottom right on clean-all, do not flash with clean and lock otherwise lock the bootloader. To some he sent the phone in brick just this forgetfulness) I strongly advise against using twrp to flash the stock!

I thought most people or everyone really liked Xiaomi EU over stock rom. I thought EU was a cleaned up verison of stock rom basically. Does it have Google play services?

I am using xiaomi.eu at the moment.
So, xiaomi.eu is a custom rom that takes Chinese stock as a basis and adapts it to global use, like adding Google services, translations for many languages and removing all Chinese apps. I prefer it to the global stock because being based on the chinese stock it has the fastest updates and functions that xiaomi puts only in the chinese rom. Also because the global roms is developed by poco So not directly from xiaomi and it is not said that they include all the features that xiaomi includes on the Chinese stock.

Right now I'm crdroid 7.11 android 11 with twrp installed. When looking at the rom files for EU I've noticed that they have some versions that look like this xiaomi.eu_multi_HMK40_POCOF3_21.10.27_v12-12-fastboot.zip and than ones that look like this
xiaomi.eu_multi_HMK40_POCOF3_V12.5.14.0.RKHCNXM_v12-11.zip
What's the difference? And if I wanted to flash EU with Twrp from crdroid could I? Could I also just flash back to crdroid if I wanted to also? Thanks

The first is Android 12 weekly beta and can only be flashed via fastboot with the appropriate file that is inside the package.
The high is stable android 11 and can only be flashed via twrp.
I don't know if it works if the flashi from crdroid, I have not tried, it might or might not, at most if it doesn't work you install the stock with miflash and the flashi from there ...

Thank you, you have been much help I've been reading through threads and telegram for days now looking for the answers but couldn't find them. This phone is so popular things become cluttered and hard to find. I don't think I have ever seen a phone with as much development and that's surprising when I have a Nexus 6.

YES
But bootloader will remain unlocked.
If you want it locked, like virgin phone, you must use a called fastboot rom via MIFLASH tool.
Select the right rom version at XIAOMI ROm download site.
Flash it first without locking, boot your phone (you don't have to configure it, even you shouldn't because of incoming reset), and if all is good, flash it once again with locking bootloader.

Question How to update to 12.5.9 ?

Hello,
My lisa came with 12.5.5 out of the box. OTA offers direct to 13.0.2. Is there anyway I can upgrade to 12.5.9 ? I don't want to upgrade to A12 atm, or anytime soon really.
Indian firware if that matters.
I see xiaomi.eu has a version of 12.5.9 which is no longer updated, but lisa isn't listed on the compatible device list.
Thanks

First of all, some basics (not sure are you aware of):
1) If your phone came with Indian, you can update but only to Indian firmware without unlocking your Bootloader:
Install MIUI Recovery ROM using Stock Recovery and Updater App
Has your Xiaomi phone received a new MIUI update? Then follow this guide to easily install MIUI Recovery ROM using stock recovery and Updater app on Xiaomi devices. Any smartphone user prefers getting…
www.thecustomdroid.com
In that case you will need to download the so-called Recovery or ZIP stock firmware and use the installation as above
2) For anything else, like switching from Indian to Global or EEA (or to Russian or Chinese) - they are all stock ROMs, or switching to Xiaomi.eu - that is not stock ROM, or any other custom (ie, not stock) ROM, you would first have to unlock Bootloader
AFAIK, Xiaomi.eu has no 12.5 for Lisa, only 13.0 - hence not applicable if you insist on 12.5
To switch from Indian to Global or EEA (still stock ROMs), you will need the unlocked Bootloader, the so-called Fastboot or TGZ firmware (and MiFlash tool):
How to Flash Fastboot ROMs on Xiaomi? - xiaomiui
If you are a Xiaomi user and have installed custom ROMs on your device, then you might be wondering how to flash fastboot ROMs on Xiaomi devices. This article
xiaomiui.net
---
I don't know where do you see 12.5.9 for Lisa - I had 12.5.8 EEA) , but there should be not much difference
Anyway, install the following app and you can check which versions are available for Lisa (for stock Global, EEA, Indian, etc) or custom Xiaomi.eu:
MIUI Downloader - Apps on Google Play
MIUI upgrade app for Mi users.
play.google.com
It shows the Latest but click on Older and you will see all the previously released (stable) versions.
Btw, under Indian, I don't find 12.5.9, neither under Global or EEA (under Global there are eg 12.5.11 and 12.5.14)
From the app, you can also choose and download Recovery (zip) or Fastboot (tgz) stock ROM for the wanted version - depending on your flashing method as above
thank you very much. I did request to unlock the bootloader in the mi unlock app, but all the custom A11 roms stopped development or moved onto A12, so I didn't see much point in unlocking bootloader.
as i understand, if i am on the indian firmware, i can flash the indian rom without BL unlock. but if BL is unlocked, do i need to switch firmware as well to install say the Global ROM ?
about 12.5.9, i mistook it as the last version before they moved to 13. sorry about that.

When you unlock Bootloader it does not prevent you to update India ROM by stock Recovery method
It just gives you the additional option to switch eg to Global by flashing Fastboot/tgz ROM
Its like, you can always go by foot, but if you have a car, you have the additional option to go by car
Please take your time, Google, read to acquire further knowledge and know-how.
There are tons of guides here on XDA, on the Net, Google videos, etc
