Question on Edge Panels - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I found the option to move the panel from right to left side...but is there a way to have it be on *both* sides ? If so, can I pick which content is on which side (like launch apps from left - and people from right).. ?

I'm currently using an S7 Edge and have wondered the same thing. I was kind of hoping the new software may have had that as an option. If someone figures out how to do this I'm interested as well.

For now, I'm using Pie Control as a 'work around'. Good for app launches, but doesn't do anything else edge can (like CNN, sports..etc...etc). I might try to tweak Pie settings to share the right side with Edge where a swipe around the middle launches Pie, while the upper right is Edge.
(btw, used to use GMD gesture, but won't work on a non-rooted device)

[APP][LAUNCHER] TasKarou Launcher Overlay

Tired of moving your fingers up/down your tablet to switch applications? Try out TasKarou!
TasKarou is a multitasking launcher overlay.
Taking inspiration from the 'Quick Controls' feature in the android browser, TasKarou provides a multitasking layer on top of a launcher on tablets.
By swiping anywhere on the left or right edge of your tablet screen, you can activate TasKarou's UI.
It gives you access to a quick, smooth, and intuitive interface to facilitate app launch, transition, and management for the user
The user interface brings a more responsive, and enjoyable level of interaction to your tablet.
Notes:
To use TasKarou, set it as the default home launcher, and from TasKarou's settings, select the actual home launcher you want to overlay.
TasKarou user interface is then triggered by swiping from either the left of right edge of your tablet screen, while still allowing access to the overlaid home launcher through the home button.
The app is also available in the android market.

It's not possible to use both at the same time, since both controls rely on the user touching the edge of the screen.
If you have an idea on how I could get around that issue, I'm all ear.

that sucks, because it basically makes the browser unusable.

some ideas from the top of my head:
- disable taskarou menu completely when in browser
- disable one side of the screen (permanently or when in browser)
- disable the upper/lower/middle half of the screen (permanently or when in browser)
on another note, the notification HAS to go. at least make it optional.
that being said, i really do like the concept of the app :good: i found myself regularly swiping in from the screen edges when not in browser, and then being disappointed that nothing happened.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have a few other ideas along with the ones you suggest that I will try to integrate, and test in the following days.
In the meantime, I updated TasKarou to also support android phones. I duplicated this thread in the 'Android Apps and Games' section to make it more visible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984010
I like this. Definitely a nice addition to my current launcher.

Definitely slick in some aspects. Can't say I really like it as it messes with my LMT set up and takes up more RAM on top of it.
There's a lot to be done like distinguishing different "hotspots" and designating right side only or left side only. Overall though I really enjoy the transitions and how the menu auto-switches based on which choices you're hovering over. Very intuitive choices too that I agree with about which things go where.
Looking forward to the potential this holds in the future. I may just abandon my LMT setup if done right.
Edit: And of course the ability for users to add/edit the options, potentially switch the color for mere superficial reasons. Something like my screenshot.

Maybe ask SwipePad's developer.
(I'm not being sarcastic)
Really useful. Love the idea, but it does cause a few conflicts with apps that rely on swiping from the sides of the screen. Having said that, when I set the margin to 13 pixels I can use the Dolphin browser (for example) without too many issues by not swiping from the outer edge, but by placing the finger a little more away from the edge and then swiping inwards. Other apps are less forgiving.
What about a button in the notification area, which is visible at all times anyways?
EDIT:
If swiping has the preference, then it would be more logical to align the available programs/tasks to the side from which was swiped. Swiping and selecting can be done with one hand then, regardless of which hand was used to swipe with.
The recents button is useless, I never use it, ever.
I'd like the option to use this instead and just disable the side activation altogether.
Nice idea. However on TF101 after getting the quick control moving the finger to one of the options too fast causes the quick controls to disappear. I have to move the thumb really slow in order to select any option. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon:fingers-crossed:.
ppl get over it, the man is trying to make ur life simpler, so if u don't like some stuff about the app then tell him your opinions in a decent way so he can make a proper development for the app instead of trashing it, otherwise f*** off
I like this!
1. I only see it from the right edge in portrait.
2. Might have a user selected area(s) for its swipe. This would allow those with conflicts to fix them. There is a similar app on Play which just gives a row running/recent apps icons which is not a bad interface. I found its use of the bottom obtrusive.
3. The home key does not go home in the base browser (I am using Trebuchet on a CM10).
4. There is a difference between "running" and "recent" (exited, cached, and still available.) !!
Long press of home gives a vertically tiled thumbnail view of both.
Taskarou shows only icons of running apps, not recent.
Taskarou should show both, either in two panes or in one with some distinction?, i.e. frame around one or the other. I sort of like having the thumbnails and they could be tiled or cascaded. If cascaded, should be focus-able, if tiled, scroll larger view like the app list. Best eliminated the number of apps option or make that for the pane (but that would be scroll-able for more). Cascading the main webOS motif. Flick down to kill?

First of all, as far as I can see, no one is trashing his app. So maybe lower your tone a bit and at least pretend to be able to communicate in a proper way.instead of telling people to "F-off".
The developer probably appreciates the feedback as he responds to it. Feedback (be it positive or negative) is valuable for both him and the app he works on. The end product can benefit from any kind of feedback as it points out flaws and strong points, and it can give the developer some different perspectives and experiences from different users and from different devices.
The day a developer stops listening to his/her targeted market is the day the product will begin its downfall.

Was having issues on my Nexus 7 running SmoothRom 4.1.2. Updated to 4.2 and no more disappearing quick controls as soon as my finger leaves the border. To get them to stay I had to leave my finger there for at least 1.5 seconds. Now all is well. Really liking it. I look forward to extended and customizable menus
Update:
Scratch that. Conflict was gesture control. Had it set to consume events in starting zone. So a touch on the edge first went to gesture control. Just an iD10t error.

You want the Butter Mod? How would you hold on to it?
a couple that come to mind right away would be to have the edge bring up apps for multi-screen, another would be jsut to have it bring up recents, then remap the recent button to menu.
would be great is somehow the edge screen could be on everytime the main screen is on, without any other user intervention..
thanks

I agree with this x100 for notifications. The whole swiping back and forth is stupid and cumbersome. I currently use an app called " no led" to show my notifications, but it would be awesome to have them just always scroll across the edge screen.

Moved from S4 to S6 edge - love the device except for 3 things - no continuous scroll of pages / screens - no voice control for alarm clock / music and can't sort apps alphabetically - not sure if this is the right place to post this but worth a try - i am a major noob with android but is it possible to copy the code for these options from an s4 to s6 - another lower priority one would be glance view - i know they tried to cut bloatware from touchwiz but to me these were excellent features

Beat me to it. As for the other thing like vioce controls, have you tried S Voice? That app is still on this device. I don't use it so I used Ti Backup to freeze. Might want to give that a try.
As for the other replies to this thread, we are looking for requests on the "Edge" part of this device. Let's try to stay on topic please. That's includung my fellow Team Members. BTW, good to see you around @bhundven

Ah, so you're using an International device. That would explain a lot. Anyway, let's try to stay on topic here. This thread is for requests on the "Edge" hardware function of this device. Trying to see what we can actually do with the "edge" technology.
Actually, I have one request which @dsexton702 already knows about, but just to give you all an idea of what this thread is for. Edge on both sides at the same time with different functions on each side instead of just using one side at a time.

side bar display help please.

hi
i have just upgraded from the s7 edge to the s9+
the only issue i am having wit it is that i cant get the side bar to display my messages. on my old s7 when i got a text message i could just slide my finger across the the of the screen and the text message would scroll across the edge of the screen allowing be to read it without having to pick up my phone. that was great for me at work.
i am unable to find how to turn this on with the s9+ is it possible to do it? if yes how please?
You are referring to the RSS feed like option when screen is off? If so yes unfortunately that feature was removed since the S8/S8+. Now I'm used to not having it. They should have removed the Edge screen option and kept the RSS feed. Used to like getting my sports feed like that.
thats crap, the main thing i liked about the phone was that feature,
i think i ill return the s9+ and go back to the 7edge
thank you for the information.

This is my first Samsung so I don't know exactly how they look compared to what you're used to. However the two apps that it seems is called Messages Edge, and Messages Pro.

Sort of getting back OnePlus gestures

So I was investigating a little about the matter, I noticed that
A) albeit not visible, it was in the settings app's layouts as gesture_navigation_bar_deprecated
in op_navigation_bar_gestures_settings.xml
B) it had settings(op_gesture_button_side_enabled and others) I could manipulate through adb
What I have found out:
If you run
adb shell settings put system op_gesture_button_side_enabled 0
the back gesture gets put back to the bottom edge. However it isn't all good, as the assistant gesture stays in the corner, and the home/appswitcher gesture gets triggered a lot too, when using the back gesture.
I hope someone has an idea how to improve on this, as in its current form it is highly useless, and I wouldn't recommend it.
OMG PLEASE keep investigating this. i am desparate to change back to old Oneplus gestures!!

The back gestures is from bottom edge either side, so it doesn't conflict with almost every app as Google's implementation does

Interesting but it could be code that has not been cleaned up, it may disappear in a future release.
If you want old OnePlus gestures, you can use : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar
With option "Split the pill in 3" and "Hide navbar", you can have (and customize) the same old OnePlus gestures.

Actually if you do a curve swipe, where it seems like you're swiping on the edge a but, it opens the hamburger menu and does not trigger back. Takes time to get used to, but once you do, it's just never misses anymore.

I just read on offical OnePlus forums about the L-shaped gesture to open the hamburger menus. Just swipe a little bit down on the left side and then to the right. It will open the hamburger menu and works from top to bottom. Another method is using the two finger swipe from the left border to the right. I'm quite pleased with this solution. It's a pitty they don't documented it in the changelog.
Of course is Fluid Navigation a nice solution to get more advanced gestures.
For anyone interested in adding Motorola's fantastic chop for flashlight and twist for camera I recommend this app
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...vitygestures-moto-actions-alike-t3383760/amp/
It lets you program five different motion gestures to any app and even allows you to fine-tune it. The only caveat is for the gesture to work you have to turn your screen on first. You don't have to unlock it. I just press the side the button then do gesture.
The closest thing to Motorola's far superior gusture and navagation. I wish the OEMs would just scrap theirs and go with Motorola's.

Another way of doing this (which is what I usually do now) is to tap and hold on the very edge of the screen until the side menu peeks out. Then slide it open.

Why does Samsung keep removing features?!

Long time Note user here (Note 1-3, Edge, 8-10) and Samsung is awesome but we have a saying down here in the American South: They "do too much".
They come up with so many features that when they put out a new version, they REMOVE features no one asked them to REMOVE!
Here's what's grinding my gears: remember on ANY Samsung phone that had split apps, they had 3 buttons that would appear if you "clicked" the middle line in between the apps?
Three options would show up:
1. An X to close out multi-window
2. A box within a box to change one of the apps to pop-up view.
3. Two rotating arrows to MAKE THE TWO APPS SWITCH PLACES. (Top to bottom and vice-versa)
That option has now been removed and this new convoluted bs way has now been 'implemented'.
Can ANYONE show me how to get it back, or a workaround?
What happened to Photo Note? Why not just have the older Note functions that made us USE the phone, available as additional, STILL FUNCTIONING apks to download separately? Why make good apps and then not keep them useable?
I'm thinking about going back to the damn Note 8 because it had that feature. I've attached a picture to show what I'm referring to.
Please help me before I toss this 1.2k paperweight across my house!

I can only answer the multiwindow feature.
Install Samsung GoodLock app and the MultiStar module for goodlock app.
They took it out of the firmware and put it in a separate app. The Goodlock app has few different modules to try out.
They took it out on Note 8 Pie as well so have to use GoodLock!
edit:
If on Android 10 wait for Samsung to update the GoodLock app to work on it!
geesh. when they toss everything and the kitchen sink out people ***** that it was bloated and had too many duplicated features. now that they are slimming it down and removing the bloat people ***** that they are removing the features that the *****ed about.
damn if you do, damn if you don't.
That's Samsung for you. I used the Hide Navigation Bar feature so that it wouldn't show when I'm browsing, etc. It was nice that I could swipe up to make it appear. I guess I'll just have to get used to the new hidden swipe design, but I'm really not a fan as I like Nova's full screen gestures, not Samsung's wonky attempt at having it active from the bottom of the screen only.
They likely change these things to lessen bloat. If you look you'll see that they create multiple apps to control all these features, so it becomes a mess when they leave too many in and running at once. That's how it appears anyway.
