If I use the smart transfer app by Samsung from my note 4. I'll be transferring all my old wifi passwords for nearly two years and maybe some corrupt data etc.?
I know it will be quicker to move to my new 7 this way but concerned about transferring useless stuff as well?
Any thoughts?

I personally like to start fresh every time I upgrade my phone. I do know though that with smart transfer you can pick and choose what to transfer over. So if you take your time with it I think you can get a good fresh start and still move most of the other stuff such as apps/contacts/settings.
Just don't transfer contacts with smart transfer you will get duplicate's with Google sync just some advice ?

I just set it up as a new phone and logged in with google. Transferring only login and play store info.. I like the feel of a new clean phone.
I start fresh. Always

So I've been using titanium backup now for about 3 years. Sometime between then and now Google has included a service that backs up your apps and app data for you, and restores them on your new or freshly wiped phone.
My question is does it really backup all your app data? I'm assuming it just re-downloads the apps from the play store and restores that apps data? And how often does android backup your apps data?
Some clarification on how this works would be great. Thanks.

Yeah want to know this too!
And how I'm able to delete these apps, because every time I accidentally leave the box ticked, it downloads apps I don't use... Like freakbook, and its pretty annoying, that's why I don't use it anymore...

The app have to support application backup for it to work.

I, too, would love to learn more about managing what's stored in Google from our phones. I've been on Android for years now, and can't imagine how much crap is up there that would be worthless today. Having an option to review your backed up apps and data with the ability of pruning would be wonderful.

How do I retrieve data from the phone like saved games and stuff like that? I am not worried about photos as all that was backed up to drop box. Calendar and contacts were synced to my gmail account.
If you purchased through the Android market then its associated with your gmail so you dont have to repay, just re download

Did you happen to have developer settings and USB debugging on? What kind of data also?

I was rooted and I think I had those options turned on.
You could use adb (using adb pull)to get the data off the phone. I am not really sure but it could also be possible to copy the data over using adb shell and dumping the files over the sd card.
Titanium backup, if you were rooted im guessing this something you might have had installed on your phone. That should install the apps and data onto your new device. You just have to root the new device first.

I have titanium backup but I backed up my apps using rom toolbox pro instead. Only problem is the last time I did a backup was last week or the week before...
Okay so it seems that jelly been doesn't allow us to Intel apps to the SD card anymore.. Okay fair enough, stood move by Google but I doubt there's anything we can do about that. My question: how can I get my phone to save other data to my external SD?
What I ultimately want is to be able to save downloads (ROMs), nandroid backups, and if possible, move extra files needed for games and cached music (I have 2gb of data from Google play music of cached music. Deleting this every few days when I go through a few hundred songs to clear space is frustrating). Does anyone know of a way that I can make any of these things happen?

Search XDA - there are thread(s) how to change Google Music storage to exSD card.
Thanks gentlemen. Using tapatalk at work so search doesn't work terribly well. Probably should have just used website search tool. Still not sure about game data, nandroid storage, etc., but I'll try to keep looking on my own. Thanks

Found nothing yet, still looking.

Found something that works for music, buy I don't think it will work for other apps and I don't think binding the directories will persist through a data wipe or ROM installation. I was just curious if this was a possibility and it seems that it is not.. I guess SD cards are becoming useless.

Hi folks,
I would like to invite your suggestions on what backup apps you are using which have the ability to export/import full backup on cloud without using PC in the process.
I am on 4.2.1 stock and rooted. I just don't want to store the backup on phone itself(not too much storage on nexus anyway).
Thanks for taking the time to read the post!

Titanium backup. Awesome tool, will backup all apps and data on any schedule you like, or just manually, then sync to the cloud storage of your choice.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Agreed. I use Titanium and sync it to my DropBox, all automatically on schedule
Titanium is great for sure. Although I am now using Koush's new backup app, Carbon. It is boss!
I just signup for Box and they gave me 50gig free

Also using titanium pro for my backups.
Titanium Backup, then it can syncs to Box.com/Dropbox/GoogleDrive.
But I just change the folder of Titanium to the actual titanium folder on the sdcard and transfer it to my PC.. upload on my ISP is slow and would take forever..
Been using Carbon for backing up data and super backup for sms/call log backups. I love Carbon, back-up to Dropbox and Google Drive is pretty slick.
And with super backup, I always have the file emailed to my gmail for safe keeps.
Carbon. It's fast and let's you auto sync backups across multiple devices.

I have been using tb pro for ages but I had noticed some inconvenience when restoring backup up apps taken from another rom...
any one else experienced the same ?
Back up alternative
Hi there,
I use an online back up service. The one I use has an appfor mobile devices. If you would like the link drop me an email and I will send it for you.
Hope this helps.
Just started using Carbon and as a former Titanium backup user I'm quite impressed.

Seems like carbon is getting popular. I would give it a try as well.

I use carbon and sync it to my box account. You get 50gb storage on there for having an lg device
When you guys say carbon syncs between devices can you explain how exactly? Do I have to hit a sync button then it syncs between? Is it automatic for certain apps you specify?
I use data sync to do this auto, but it's a beta and occasionally has issues.
I do it manually. I've heard there's a way to do it automatically but I haven't discovered it yet

Carbon w/ Dropbox is working great for me. Saved me from hours of reconfiguring after a bad install got me bootlooped.

DataSync
I don't understand why carbon is getting so much attention?? DataSync has been around much longer and is much better than carbon. Carbon only has its use for those who don't want rooted devices. DataSync automatically syncs your data from apps/games every time you start/close that app or game. You can use it with box, dropbox, ftp, drive (in a week or so), wifi, bluetooth. It does everything Carbon does but better and automatically. You set up a list of apps you want synced or backed up and it backs everything up every time you have used an app on that list.
The new alpha release is very stable and works great! U can get it here.

DataSync. Titanium did not work for some reason, so I searched for alternatives. The paid version is capable of auto backing up and syncing to other devices. But since I don't have more than one Android device in use, I don't need that and can live with dropbox backups.
I've tried Google's app syncing, Helium, and MyBackup and none of them seem to transfer my app data! I have apps where I absolutely must have the data from my old phone but I can't seem to get anything to work. What is everyone else using?
Edit: I don't have root

Same problem trying to use HTC's Transfer App. Also, the HTC Sync Manager does not recognize the phone when connected to my desktop.
Spent a long time on the phone with an HTC CSR yesterday before I got cut off, but no success.
---------- Post added at 09:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 AM ----------
Just got off the phone with another HTC CSR on these two issues: 1.) HTC Transfer App doesn't work and 2.) HTC Sync Manager software doesn't recognize the 10.
He had no clue and said he would escalate the problems. He said I should hear back in 24-48 hrs.
The HTC Sync Manager doesn't handle apps anyway. I didn't have a problem syncing contacts, messages, etc. It's the apps that are giving my trouble.
U can use modded moto migrate app or just TB the legend of backing apps with data using this ull not need to download apps and register/verify apps detail again just transfer data from old phone
And using TBP u apps also get installed automatically

Nope. I'm holding off on root at least until I get the camera update via OTA.
If you ever used HTC Backup/Restore AND if you have a backup from not too long ago, you can use that to accellerate the start-up process. I restored an M9 backup from February on my new 10 and it did make for faster setup.
Have you ever used adb backup/restore?
