Huge Battery Issue - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hello, I bought my HTC 10 yesterday. As soon as I got it I unlocked bootloader and rooted the device. I flashed Viper ROM.
The issue is, my battery is draining at 1% every minute...
Anyone got a solution? I'm using Areoplane mode+Wifi at home. I have locations off and sync off ect.
Should I return this phone?

Don't return phone, figure out what is causing the drain. It is probably an app.

I'd say it's either a rogue app, or a Wi-Fi issue (as you have airplane mode activated.)
Have a look through the thread link below, and make sure it's not the wifi issue causing your battery drain.

Thank you. It seems the WIFI must be the problem, sadly most of that thread goes over my head. I will try and figure it out thanks for the help.

You should always run stock for a few days after getting a phone so you can see if it's a phone issue, a rom issue, or user issue. If you start installing roms the second you get the phone, it'll be extremely hard to find out if something was working right to begin with.
Perhaps flashing back stock will help narrow down the issue. If that doesn't work, factory resetting without app restore will narrow it down some more.
I do not have any issues with Wi-Fi draining on stock vzw.

[Q] Weird battery drain

Ok guys n gals, here's a puzzle for you all.
A few days ago, I noticed that my standby consumption had gone from around 10 mA to around 40mA using mobile data but with all other radios and GPS off.
For testing purposes I disabled location services through wireless. No effect.
I have tried with several Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs and the results are identical.
I have also tried with different radios, flashed using both fastboot and recovery.
I have used the ROMs without settings or app restore and I haven't installed any other apps than those included in the various ROMs. Additionally, i have tried various kernels.
Using Airplane mode shaves of a couple of mA.
aLogcat isn't showing any weird lines, mostly garbage collections.
I have tried searching far and wide and I have tested freezing various potential culprit apps using titanium backups' freeze function and all the battery calibrations/fixes I have found, but nothing helps.
At the moment I am using Oxygen RC6 with their recommended radio 5.09.05.30_2 and I am still seeing the same issue. The phone has gone from making it almost two days with moderate usage to barely a day with little usage.
The phone is S-OFF and I am using the N1table.
Can anyone please help with this? Apologies if this problem has been described before. I really tried searching before writing tis, but it could be that my search fu is weak.
Have you found a solution? In my case i'm getting ~100mA with the phone sleeping... and I can't seem to fix that.

Yeah, did that. No joy.
Maybe i'm totaly off, but, do you use Facebook app v1.5 ? If so, that's one power drain app because they messed up with new chat feature.
To anyone in Japan with horrible battery life, this might be helpful!
Solution for battery drain:
Just found this japanese guy who had the same problem with an Oxygen rom.
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/majadroid/20101223/1293094736
He explains what he changed in build.prop and has packaged it as an update here:
http://www.multiupload.com/5EAK6IUSQR
I am flashing it now and will report problems (or success I hope) in a while. According to the OP he managed to get to 1~2% hour drain which is very promising.
EDIT: It seems to have worked!!! I am back to about 10mA with screen off!
Thanks for all the replies.
The last thing I tried was a total restore using a HTC RUU, so I am now S-ON
This didn't help much though, even if I was down to 27 mA on some occasions, maybe that's normal for HTC roms
I have rooted it again but not S-OFFed and I am running the latest CM7 build (#12).
@TheGhost1233: I have tried the wifi sleep policy.
@m4dm4n123: No I don't use facebook app. Additionally, I have tried removing as many apps as possible only keeping some google apps and currentwidget.
@slyn4ice: Thanks for the tip. I have just flashed it but I am not noticing any big difference. I am seeing a few mA:s reduction, but still far from 5-10 mA in standby... I'll let it run for a day and see if it improves.
I am still open for suggestions...

[Q] My Battery Life - Screenshots

Hi guys, I know there's a lot of battery related threads lately, but I've not been able to find a solution or explanation for my problems.
So last night I put my phone on charge around 10pm and went to sleep, I got up to go for a whizz during the night and saw that the light was green, approx 2.30am, so I disconnected the charger and left the phone on my desk and went back to sleep.
When I got up this morning I was quite surprised to see that my battery was down to 38%. This is the problem I've been having lately, rogue battery loss. I leave my "wi-fi on during sleep" set to never, and I believe the network was on 2g only (o2 UK), I'm running the Viper rom, with Nova Launcher and the Faux Kernel, not o/c or anything.
This is not the first time it's happened, so my question is, from looking at the screenshots, can anybody see an obvious culprit for the drain?
Thanks in advance.
Yeahp it's quite obvious that it's the android OS ... Some app is causing it to be awake ...

Yea I gathered that much, but what's the best way of narrowing it down? I've noticed in some other threads the guys have been asking for screenshots from better battery stats to help identify the problem. Did you see anything in what I posted?
try full a wipe of your system and then see the result.
If its working fine then install app one by one and see which app is causing the problem?

[Q] Rom/Kernel issue OR Battery?

Hi all
After sitting with my stock SGS4 (i9505) for a few months I decided to root (as i had my N7000 and HTC Desire).
About the same time as this my phone began turning off seemingly randomly. At first i thought this may be a ROM/Kernel issue but I have tried a couple including Stock(rooted), Carbon and the GooglePlay Rom. The same thing happens for all of them.
Once off, the phone boots to splash screen then turns off. This cycles. I remove the battery and the phone will turn on, sometimes showing a SIGNIFICANT apparent drop in battery (90% reduces to 3% during this single on/off cycle). A quick charge and restart will often cause the rebooted phone to read the battery at 90% again.
The battery does appear slightly swollen and i'm curious if anyone could shed any light on:
1) does this seem a battery / firmware issue and
2) any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
Currently: GooglePlay Rom 4.2.2 PhilZTouch Recovery
Regards
Warnoceros
If you're saying the battery is "swollen" it probably is a battery issue IMO. Especially if you're having problems on every ROM you've tried.
Have you tried going back to stock to see if it's still happening?
Hi
Thanks for replying. I'm downloading stock now so will report in the morning.

Hi,
So, went back to stock (binary counter has moved up unfortunately - didnt read into that before hand). Was still rebooting. Have replaced battery and this seems to have done the trick for the time being. I noticed that the unit did not reset until my google accout restored apps to the phone so there is still a chance it was a bad app i suppose.
Most likely the battery though
Thanks

Did you perform a factory reset after the upgrade? If not, backup and try that first as I have no issues with battery life on Lollipop. Also, make sure the apps you use are up-to-date as it might be one of them not playing nice with 5.0 yet...
same issue here...im stock and unrooted. I dont think greenify can do much. Phone heats up more than before and thus causes more battery drainage... i guess unless we roor the phone, we are stuck with this, or unless there is a software update from htc to fix the issue
I'm with EddyOS on the factory reset. I'd do that, but probably through hboot. I'm running lollipop slightly overclocked with a fairly aggressive custom kernel and I'm not dealing with any heat or undue battery drain. Battery life is actually better than kitkat. I'm running a radically debloated ROM, too, but even on a simply rooted stock ROM with a stock kernel I didn't have such issues.
Thanks for all. Now my HTC One_M8 battery working for automatically after 3 days of update.

I can tell you that it's down to apps and cpu.... I took update from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 ... consumption was massively increased (15-20 mins lost around 10% battery power) ....later ran tr/towelroot/sunshine apps and if I left them running longer I'd have had a new room heater
Turn off after an update, see if that clears it up first, if it continues then do a factory reset

I've had a similar problem since I got the lollipop update, my battery seems to die at somewhere between 20 and 15% and the phone will turn off. Sometimes it will come back on sometimes it won't. I thought a factory reset would do the job so I ended up flashing AR HD (a factory reset was a good enough reason to move away from stock) and its happened again. Anyone any uses what could be causing it?

Tap on extreme powersaving mode. not the on button, but the words Powersaving mode in the settings. make sure that it is at 5% that it turns on, not 20% I had that problem. before.
my great htc m8 running lollipop for 1 month already and all was good until 3 days ago dropping from 70 to 0 all of the sudden , its not rooted , pls assist what to do , thanks

[Q] Battery draining so fast when using mobile internet

I'm using PureKat ROM for my Desire Z, and recently I've noticed that the battery drains so fast when I'm on career's 3G network (WiFi doesn't have this problem). I suspect on Google Play Services and I've disabled to auto-start, wake up and keep awake the phone and most of it's unnecessary services using this tutorial but it doesn't help. I've attached battery usage statistics after charging (all is normal there as you can see). Also I want to mention that 3G is mostly off (especially when it charges) so battery lasts as long as it is disabled (it can last for several days without 3G I think), and charging is really fast!
Has anyone had this problem?
Just to be on the safe side, check to see if this also happens on a stock ROM. I remember my old G2 did something like this. Can't check it anymore because my son killed it when I left him use it.

Thanks for the suggestion! Which exactly stock ROM version to use? And if I do that, it will disable root and restore to S-ON, right?
I thought that the problem was with battery, but when I replaced and tested it again, it still acts the same :/
Can anyone help me?
I think that is normal because my desire z give me only 3 hours on 3g and about 6.5 hours on WiFi and now using htc one it also have quit same battery timing like that !

I think that I've solved it with SetCPU profiles. Battery life is noticeably better now.
