I just wanted to start off by thanking drk.hd and invisiblek for all of their hard work on the ROM and I love it. However there is a problem that I got with the latest build and I can't post in that thread because of the 10 post requirement. With that said, I have been getting massive battery drain overnight the past 2 nights and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to fix that. Last night I went from 67% down to 14% and the night before was even worse, 74% down to 4%. Does anyone know a way to fix that? It's the same problem I had with AOKP and Abduction and I didn't have that problem with the previous CM9 builds. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I forgot to add my kernel. I'm using the incredikernel hwa beta 2 running on smartassv2 with 128 min and 1113 max.

I do have those off. I actually had no problem on build 8 and I had amazing battery life and I've been using it the exact same way. I flashed over build 8 with 9 and then I started getting this massive battery drain over night. Weird thing is that it doesn't happen during the day only when the phone is idle for a long period of time.

Thanks for the response Tiny. Unfortunately, both of those apps are freezing up my phone and forcing a reboot.
I just resorted to a full wipe and hopefully that works out. Will report back tomorrow.

If they are freezing your phone there are other problems. Since you said you just wiped or will wipe hopefully that will fix it but it won't tell why.

You're right Tiny. After the wipe it seems to be back to a normal battery drain again as in build 8. The real test will come tomorrow though when I wake up. And the weird thing is that the apps work now after the full wipe. I still have a nandroid backup of the build 8 I flashed over if you want to do some tests with it to see what might have gone wrong.
Ok so it seemed that it was one of the apps that made my battery drain like crazy. I installed badass battery monitor again because I had a 12% drain in an hour at one point with it being idle with the screen taking up 40% of the usage. I uninstalled the last app that I installed which was the Videocam Illusion and I got only an 11% drain over night so it seemed like that fixed it.

badass battery monitor made my phone freeze too. Hmm
I have had my Note 8 for a couple of months and just recently I have been having battery problems. I restored the Note 8 to factory settings (just to be sure) and am still having the same problem.
It seems that when I watch videos or play any games the battery depletes extremely quickly e.g Its 80%, I start to play the game and within 3-5 minutes the battery is 30%. I play again and its 5% and the screen dims (which is also a pain in the ....) I realise that Games and Apps use a lot of power but surely not this much.
I have looked around for battery calibration instructions and apps but are a bit dubious to try them as I have read that you can deplete the battery totally and the device then wont charge.
Just wondered if anybody else has had the same problem.
Thanks.
My note has a great battery life. For this situation I would look in the battery menu for any apps not closing correctly thus sucking battery. Remember to dis activate GPS, Bluetooth and data when not using them. Check the screen brightness is 50% or less. Automatic brightness should be fine also.
here's a lot of info related to batteries. I'm sure you will find it usefull

Don't waste time with calibration. Sounds like the battery ifs failing or dying, either way it's bad.

I usually have Bluetooth and GPS turned off and have the screen on Auto Brightness. I also restored to factory and the problem still persists.
One strange thing is that when I charge it from 10% it takes about 50 minutes to get to 100%. I thought that was a bit quick. The battery must be reporting the wrong charge to the OS. I wish they had user replaceable batteries in this thing although its probably not practical.
I will give Samsung a call. Cannot beleive it has happened now as I am off on holiday soon to the US and wanted to use it there.
Thanks.

Hi, I've had the same issue. I sent the device for service under warranty and they could not find a fault. They only reflashed the firmware.
Its been working fine since I got it back. I updated to 4.2.2 and its working just fine.

same with me chas0001, and JCUK89, my situation is actually identical to chas0001, but my device is like a mth old now, i received it on august 5th 2013,
so its basically been used for jus over a mth now. and i barely use it, maybe 3 hrs a day, most days less than 1 hr, constant use.
i dont kno, can anyone help. on xda developers. ??
I called Amazon.co.uk (where I bought it from) and they agreed to replace it for me. Its was definitely faulty and unusable. I kept reading about people with the similar problems and so eventually decided to not get a replacement but a refund.
Its a shame really. I really liked the device but I need something more reliable. I also don't care for Samsung with their constantly delayed OS updates. 4.1.2 for a 'flagship' device. Surely if they get rid of that Touchwiz crap they can release timely updates. You never know even my Note 2 may get an OS update this year!
Just went out and bought a Nexus 7 (2013). NOW...what to do with those 5 Galaxy Note 8 cases

I would see of you can get it exchanged (assuming you still want to keep the device).
So recently my battery life went from absolutely amazing to terrible (just went from 100% to 83 percent with 30 min SOT and 3 hrs off the charger) does anyone know a good app that will tell me what the hell is digging through my battery life so bad? The only thing I have connected is the android wear watch, and surely that wouldn't hinder my battery life that much, would it? Thanks to anyone that replies, I just want my old battery life back.

Mine has been terrible since the NK3 OTA as well. It's a shame that they couldn't just leave it alone. I was enjoying it so much more when I was squeezing 5 hours SOT.
after taking the NK3 update, my battery life was still amazing, until tonight. I didnt update anything (no app updates and no new apps installed) but my battery went from 50% to 30% in about 10 minutes. I cleared cache and rebooted and it went from 30% to 0% in about 15 minutes. I dont understand why all of a sudden, it died so quickly. Only thing I can think of is that I switched to ART about two days ago. It was fine until this evening, when the phone completely fell on its face. It was running extremely slow, even after I killed all running apps, thats when the battery dropped. I'm switching back to dalvik and we'll see what happens.

OK guys, here is an odd question. What do you do for a living? Is there anyone that would benefit by listening in to your device? I know it sounds weird, but your phone may be active when you think it isn't, including the camera, mics, GPS etc. I get these unexplained battery drains too, and my wife has the identical device and near identical app setup (and we both have the update) and her battery is much better. Its one of only two things i can think of.
Here's the other: not using the supplied charger. I regularly use other chargers when my wife refuses to do so.
Anyway, just my mad ideas

I'm just a 19 year old nurse aid.. I highly doubt anyone would benefit from monitoring me. And I use the stock charger.
In all honesty I went through and found a bunch of apps I personally don't use to disable, such as instagram and some other apps such as that, you may also want to see if your mobile signal is having issues or your wifi is having issues, both those items will cause battery drain, I turned off a bunch of apps and my phones been unplugged for almost 6 hours and I have over an hour of that as screen time, I'm down to 88%, I work at att so I'm always showing my phones off and demoing them, I disabled 21 apps I have no use fore and my free ram is just about a gig, you just gotta dig a bit to find what's always on.

Go to the thread where you disable Knox.. It has a adb command you can send to phone that disables close to 100 apps.. Try it and see if it helps.

not sure what you mean by bad.. every one's usage of the phone is different.. i was getting around 4 hours OST.. when using the phone regularly.. playing CoC, answering emails, whatsapp, messaging...
sometime i got 3 hours.. some time i got 5.. some time it ran away so i had to reboot.
i believe about 75% that disabling some of the software did help with battery life while the phone is sleeping. but i've only recently disabled bunch of stuff
I just picked up a SW3, and upgraded it to MEC24H. So far, I am pretty happy with it. I'll get a full day out of the battery, and that was with the just got it fingers playing with it more than I normally would.
I've heard some bad things about mwd49b on our watch, my watch keeps asking me to update, should I just avoid the mwd49b update for now and stick with MEC24H?

I can't use my SW3 since this update. The watch go from 3.5% by hour to 6-8% by hour, so unusable now
I've updated and have perfect battery life, easily 2 days. Yes, I'm a light user, but still......
I'm absolutely happy with the update. GPS is fine, in short everything works as it should.........
The latest update works fine on my watch. I even dirty flashed it, no hard reset. The only problem I have is that the watch would not fully charge when turned off. It will overheat and stop at about 60% charge.

Well I've found the update to be perfect here and same battery life as before. Strange how different people are having different experiences
Noticeably shorter battery life but the watch works much better. If you don't like to charge it every day or (almost) two - don't update but the update itself fixes many problems that occurred right after the update to 6.0
I've updated and my watch lasts almost for two days, I'm happy with the update but I'm waiting for the further fixes, mainly fixes for the battery.

Since accepting the update on my SW3 GPS has become unusable for any long-term tasks. It might last 20 or 30 minutes returning (relatively) accurate values but then accuracy shoots out to 64m or more and renders it useless for any serious application. I have two watches and they've both started doing the same thing. Personally I'd stick with version 5 for now until they fix it.
Interestingly enough yesterday my battery life restored close to normal after about a week of horrible drain. I did not do anything to the watch...

Ever since upgrading to Android P (OTA) 3 days ago I've noticed the battery life is really poor. On Oreo I used to see only 1-2% drain overnight. Now I go to bed with full charge and wake up with only 60% left. The battery drains a lot faster when I'm using it as well.
I used to be able to get 6-7 hours SOT easily. Now I'm not even sure if I could squeeze 4 hours before the battery is flat.
Is anybody else seeing this? Or is this normal considering Android P just got installed and it needs time to "optimize stuff"? But then again, with Oreo I got awesome battery life from day 1.
Weird, I've gotten better battery life..
Better battery here
Interesting. I'll let it run a few more days and see if there's any improvement. Otherwise I'm going back to Oreo.

Try to factory reset ur device this may help
Thanks guys. I'll wait a few more days. If it doesn't improve will try a factory reset
I'm getting better battery life with Pie
Pixel 1 XL could last a long time. Pixel 2 XL was worse and the worst with Android P unfortunately. I upgraded from Beta, decided to factory reset since there was a bug with Wear OS eating the battery. Got a little better. Got some more little better disabling adaptive battery. I think Doze is still in Android P.
Anyway, it's still not that good. But decent.
I am having the same issue.
when I reboot the phone, the battery seems ok.
But when I start using the phone and open several apps, the battery starts draining quickly.
I installed magisk root, should I do a factory reset and not installing magisk?
I went from a day and 17 hours to 16 hours. This is definiately a piss-poor "improvement to battery life."

I'm not sure how much help adaptive battery is going to help. It's meant to limit background battery usage of infrequently used misbehaving apps. If that's not happening adaptive battery won't do much.

My battery life has been terrible. Today I unplugged at 93%. I've been off the charger for 9 hours with 4 hours screen on time. I'm at 23%. With Oreo that kind of usage would have me at about 40%.
I'd rather not have the hassle of having to do a factory reset but I might not have much choice.
It hasn't got any better since I reported the issue.
I think I'm going to flash Oreo instead of trying a factory reset as I doubt it would solve the problem. Maybe someone else could try and let us know.
I'll report back after flashing Oreo. Very disappointed. I thought this was the first phone I didn't need to tinker with all these stuff on. I was really happy with it until this issue came up.
So a few days ago I flashed Oreo only to have it tell me it couldn't find any of my backups on Google Drive during the initial setup. Of course, the backups were done when I was on Pie.
So I had to upgrade to Pie then factory reset. This time it found my backups.
Yesterday I managed to get 5 hours SOT with about 40% battery left. Life is all good now

looks like i'm going to have to do the same. It doesnt make sense how some people are getting better battery and other worse. Are there some of us running apps not 9.0 compatible? might be worth uninstalling everything and adding them back day by day. it'll take a long time though!

It appears I jumped the gun. The problem came back yesterday.
The phone loses about 4-5% battery per hour even on standby. I have no idea what's going on; I haven't installed any new apps and usage pattern hasn't changed either.
One very interesting fact I have discovered is that the issue appears to happen only when I'm on Wifi. When I'm mobile data, all is good. So the phone seems to be doing some funky stuff when it's on Wifi lol.
Oh well, I guess I will try to install BBS and see if I could find the culprit.

That is entirely possible. I guess we have apps that have not been written/optimized for Pie? That would explain why some people are not seeing the issue and some unfortunate ones like us are.
I factory-resetted the phone, the issue is still there. I don't have any strange app. It seems that it's just the system that is consuming the battery.
That's very strange I've had the complete opposite, battery life has improved, if reset didn't fix it monitor your apps for unusual battery usage and limit the background activity of battery consuming apps
