I have a 1st gen fire tv, rooted, clockwork, etc. Has the latest rooted update, 51.1.6.3xxxxx. I had the Vue app working when i was on 51.1.1.1 (i think). Then one day it stopped working and gave a message about having to update the android software when i tried to open the app.
So, i deleted it. Then I went go to amazon's website and tried to deliver it to my firetv, it does not show up in the drop-down box as a compatible device. I have two other, non-rooted fire tv's and those show in the drop-down delivery to box.
Today, in an effort the get the app back, I updated to the latest rooted update i saw on aftvnews (51.1.6.3) It is still now allowing me to deliver it to my 1st fire tv. I guess the latest rooted update is not recent enough? Of course amazon support said if i updated the fire to the latest software, the device would show up compatible and deliverable. I'm not sure about that.
Am I screwed? I wonder if someone posted the latest Vue apk and i installed it, would I get the same message? If someone would posted that for me, id love to give it a shot.
UPDATE: I found a Vue apk and installed it on my firetv. Would not run. So, I did the following:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system /system
chmod 761 /system/xbin/su
mv /system/xbin/su /system/xbin/xsu
mv /system/app/Superuser.apk /system/app/XSuperuser.apk
This worked when i was on 51.1.1.1. Now the app starts to open and gives me " An update is required, please update your android device" The apk i used was older, anyone have the latest Vue apk? Thought i read somewhere it was 2.4.1
Thanks in Advance!
Go to the link and scroll to the bottom of the first post. Also rootcloak is said to work but some have trouble with it. I personally haven't tried yet but I will attempt soon. I use mobdro mostly for live tv.

SOLVED. Rbox's latest rooted software allows Vue to open!
That's great, I didn't know that. But I'm assuming you mean rom? But us firestick users don't have that luxury yet. I've found a fix through rootcloak.

Im trying to update my XBMC install to the latest release of 13.2.
When in terminal I can connect to the device no issues. However when I issue the command adb install -r xbmc-13.2-Gotham-armeabi-v7a.apk
It simply just sits there and does nothing. No error messages or anything.
Am I missing some sort of step? I don't want to use the adbFire app to side load it because I will lose all my current config.

Rename the apk file without any dashes or periods. Try something like xbmc132.apk.

It worked perfectly fine once i plugged myself into the fireTV using a ethernet cable.. shared the connection from my macbook to it and then it went through.
Guess maybe it takes so much longer through the wireless that it times out or something?

I remember having gotham 13.1 and went straight to kodi just using ADBFire. I didn't do it via DOS as I see everyone do it. Is this ok? I got another unit here that's running kodi but I want to put gotham 13.2 and I want to use ADB fire. I just select install APK select my file and it's done. Is that ok? or do I need to do it the long way?
You could always sideload a browser and ES to use it's download manager and just install the .apk if you're on the new firmware. If you're not, can use a SQL editor the enable install from unknown sources and 'then install it.
I didn't find -r switch option in ADBFire, you may overwrite the old setting without it?? I just used DOS adb install -r gatham132.apk, it worked fine.

Hello,
I have the following setup :
- Initially installed: SPMC 13.3.3 (launcher version)
- Later I followed the instructions to make SPMC start automatically using the following :
Installed Xposed : adb install de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v32_de4f0d.apk
Installed RboxFireTVMods 1.3 : adb install RboxFireTvMods_1.3.apk
Enabled Xposed and Robx FireTVMods 1.3 in Xposed.
I just saw that there is a new SPMC version and I wonder if there's anything special to do to upgrade ?
Is a "adb install spmc-armeabi-v7a_13.4.0_launcher.apk" enough or would that break the autostart via Xposed (or loose some of the existing setup) ?
Actually I'd be interested to know for the other way as well : downgrading from 1 version to the other.
I'm interest to see if that will get rid of the desynchro sound/image that usually happens when watching the "404 show" in the CNET video add-on.
Thanks !
XBMC can be upgraded through ADB without losing your settings. To do this, you must use a newer version of the package already installed on the machine.
Download the package to your machine
Make sure ADB is connected to the Fire TV
Run adb install -r <apk-file-name>
Installation is complete when it reports the message "Success"
XBMC will still go through the "first run" screen the first time it is launched but your settings will remain intact.
From the wiki: http://kodi.wiki/view/Amazon_Fire_TV
Or adbFire will do this for you.
Thanks jmerrilljr2,
I was wondering if the fact that SPMC is a "launcher" edition and that it's somehow referenced/detected by RboxFireTVMods 1.3 could have some implications that a regular XBMC upgrade would not have to deal with.
Actually I am curious as to what is the difference between the SPMC with launcher vs the regular one (difference in a config file, additional file(s), etc...).
I just upgraded. Simply side loaded the newer version and it upgrades seamlessly

Anyone else getting an instant force close/crash upon opening SPMC after the update? I stopped the app, cleared the cache and no luck on my Fire Tv stick.
First I'd like to say Thank you to all of the people that help us that don't know how to create these mods. I have a new Fire tv 3 4k (at least I think thats what they call it) that has firmware Fire OS 6.2.1.2, Fire Tv Home Version 6.0.1.2-006. Is there a way to root or downgrade the firmware so I can start playing around with the new toy? Thanks in advance.
Nope.
Block updates, wait, and hope. I don't know if anyone is trying to root it. I have tried kingo / king root and no luck. What are you looking to do? You can still side-load apps....

I haven't looked into how to block the updates, but will. I would like to try the v4 "LazyLeanback".
Except that wont work with FireTV 3 at all. Its also very dangerous and stupid to try to use a root tool for something it is not meant for. That's how you break things.

There are forums to explain how to block updates via adbshell. LazyLeanback won't work because it is on a different version of android. The LazyLeanback seemed buggy to me on my fire tv2. I would recommend a Android TV device if you want to go the google TV way.
I have never had an issue with attempting "Universal" root tools, but usually they don't work on updated devices. The fire stick and fire TV were both rooted via universal root tools. That being said there is risk of bricking when attempting root.
Thanks for the replies.
I can't seem to find how to stop updates on my fire tv 3rd gen. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you

You'll need to connect with adblink first:
http://jocala.com/
Then run this windows batch file to block updates:
https://github.com/pwntrik/firetv/blob/master/scripts/ftv0_disable_ota_5242.bat

I tried to adb the bat file but get an error "ftv0_disable_ota_5242.bat: not found
I have tried dragging the bat file into the adb shell and get the error
also tried to apply each line separately but get the error.
could it be that the bat file is for an older firmware?
Open a shell from adblink (make sure you are connected to the fireTV) then run....
adb uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.device.software.ota
adb uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.device.software.ota.override
It is possible that these were blocked on the latest updates, i haven't tried the newest.

First you have to connect with ADBLink to your device. Then once you're connected you'll have to run the .BAT file from a Windows CMD.exe terminal. If you're not using a direct cable connect remove the -d flag from "adb -d"
self signed CA cert
is there any way to import on Fire TV 3 self signed CA Cert?
Just got one for $35 on the DirecTV Now deal. I wan't to put YoutubeTV on it but knowing the spat between Google and Amazon IDK if it is possible to sideload. Is it or is a full root the only way?

Sounds like you did you not read in the prior posts that AFTV 4K isn't designed for that and if you're looking to root get a an Android set-top box instead... Rooting a AFTV 4K will prob brick the thing.

I presume you've found no way to block updates since? Perhaps Amazon finally won the battle?
I havent had any luck with any adb command methods

I just want to TeamViewer or remote into it. Not seeing any way of doing that without root. Even a screen view from a computer will do it for me.
I have just purchased a new FireTV which uses OS 6. I already own a firestick and a olderfiretv. To sideload apks onto the devices I either use appstofire or adblink which both work brilliantly. When trying to connect to my new FireTV I get a 'problem' message with Adblink and apps to fire says :
Not connected to 192.168.1.* Error java.io.FileNotFoundException:docs/adbkey(No such file or directory)
I have tried everything I can think of but no luck at all. Has anyone else experienced this and can help...(yes both my developer options are set to on and I have tried resetting them numerous times)
Any advice most gratefully received.
Cheers
is your appstofire up to date? im sure they did a recent update to support os 6 devices
edit
appstofire are saying
At the moment I'm investigating what changed on Amazon Fire TV 4K with the latest update to Fire OS 6.2.1.2
im guessing you have 6.2.1.2 so hold tight im sure the dev will fix the issue soon

I also have a Tata Sky Amazon fire stick.
Did you manage to update the firmware?
Hi,
Is there a way to uninstall any preloaded app from Fire TV Stick? For e.g., the stick has TataSky Binge+ app and there is no 'uninstall' option for it. I think if this app is removed, I will be able to open the other apps installed on the stick (which otherwise are being blocked due to no active subscription of Tata Sky Binge)
Hi, my friend has given his binge firestick, it is showing only "optimising system storage.." while connected to tv. How to make it working alike normal Amazon firestick. How to boot to recovery, is that it needed to get opened.
Try the new Binge Set top box instead of Binge Fire stick
It is not worth to use tata sky binge fire stick device with Rs.250 / month. try Binge set-top box or buy real Fire Stick that comes from directly through Amazon. Not the modified one, that's I recommend.
