Hi everyone,
Since a few days, the battery life of my OP3 has been divided by at least 3, with a normal use, it lasts no longer than 5 hours, I now usually charge it twice a day, and during the night, it lose about 60% battery, here's a screenshot.

Recently I've been playing Pokemon GO a lot so I understand it can damage the battery, but none of my friend have experienced the same issue, yet they have cheaper phone than the OP3.
I did a few research and didn't notice anyone with the same problem.
Also I contact OnePlus support but they are unqualified so I don't want to lose more time with them.
Yesterday I wiped everything on my phone and reinstalled Oxygen OS, during the night I lost about 10% battery, that's a big progress but it's still abnormal, and I have lost about 10% again by using my phone a bit after awaking.
So I tried everything that is in my knowledge but there still a big problem with the battery of my phone, anyone has a solution for me ?
I note from your screen shot you are running both Facebook and messenger, and from your post pokemon go, notorious battery hogs I suspect they aren't helping. But if this drain is a new phenomenon what have you installed on recently?
Yes I know Facebook, Messenger and Pokemon GO drain a lot of battery, but I charged my phone at 100% before going to sleep and closed all the apps, so these apps wasn't running in background during the night, I just received some notifications and messages during the night, that can't be what drained so much battery... Also I've been using Facebook and Messenger on Android for 3 years now, and I'm playing Pokemon GO since July 6, but the huge battery drain started only a few days ago, and I started to notice battery problem maybe 2 weeks ago.
I didn't installed anything special recently, I'm just using my phone like I've always did...
What sensors have you activated? GPS? NFC? Bluetooth?
Did you try and install Better Battery Stats? Or Wake Lock Detector?
Gesendet von meinem ONEPLUS A3003 mit Tapatalk
I only activated GPS.
I installed BetterBatteryStats about 1 month ago but I don't really understand the stats in it. I installed it because someone on another forum told me to install it and post screenshots after a day of use, that was a few time after I received my OP3 because since the beginning I noticed the battery life was anomaly short. I've recently uninstalled it.
You can see the screenshots here
A technician from OnePlus called me and advised me to install Snapdragon Guru so I did it, I will see if it changes anything.
Well 3% per hour is not so bad, I have it, too. GPS is most time in energy saving mode and Bluetooth is on as I wear a smart watch.
Perhaps you should reinstall BBS again and we will have a look at the newer stats.
GPS can be a real drainer.
Gesendet von meinem ONEPLUS A3003 mit Tapatalk
Now it is more like 10-15% per hour...
I'm downloading OOS 3.2.4 but the mirror is very slow so I'll have it this night I thing. I will wipe everything again, install latest OOS and install BBS again, we'll see then...
So yesterday I wiped everything again and reinstalled OOS 3.2.4 this time, then I went out to play Pokemon GO so the battery emptied in about 4 hours which was normal while playing this game, anyway, I charged it at 100% before going to sleep and put it in airplane mode and look at the result :
So now I'm sure of one thing, the battery doesn't drain itself for no reason. Yesterday a technician from OnePlus called me and told me about turning data off during the night (that why I put my phone in airplane mode). If that is really the problem, I don't understand why... Why after 3 years using Android, data suddenly drains battery like never before (without changing my way of using my phone) and why it does that to only a few people...
Today I used my phone normally, it lasted almost all the day, that is a big progress, but it is still ridiculous compared to my old phones that lasted 2 days at the beginning. I took a lot of screenshots when the battery was almost empty so maybe someone can help me to analyze what is the problem with the battery consumption.
Did you ever find a solution to your battery drain? If so, would you like to share this solution?

This started happening out of nowhere, a couple months back. My phone will lose battery at an incredibly fast rate, then swoop back up (without being plugged in), then fall, etc etc until it hits 0%. I can then turn it back on and it says 50% or what have you, and the same process repeats. These are the things I've tried:
1. Bought a new ZeroLemon battery because I thought my battery might be broken. All this served to do was increase the number of swoops. The battery still barely lasts half a day.
2. Cleaned the contacts of the battery and on the phone.
3. Installed all kinds of battery helpers and battery recalibration apps. Here's a screenshot of an app telling me, after I charged the phone to 100% (with a separate battery charger so I know it was at 100%).
It appears the phone is just reading the battery incorrectly. Not only does it report 60% but it also reports 3800 mV, which a fully charged battery should be around 4200 or 4300 correct?
4. Now here's the weird one: I blew on the contacts. This made things work better for a week or two. The new battery lasted about 3 days, which I thought was pretty good. Now it's back to where it was again.
It seems like I've tried just about everything, and it's a problem with the phone. Only problem is, as you can see, I have CM installed and the phone is over a year old, so any kind of warranty is long bye bye. Any suggestions my fellow S3 owners? I've tried googling this problem everywhere and it seems I'm the only one with it.
Thanks so much

I'm not sure exactly how to fix your problem, but just wanted to state that battery helping apps and calibration apps are bogus, they serve no purpose!

I also forgot to mention that I have tried formatting everything and installing a different ROM etc etc. Is there any option short of buying a new phone?

I can't break the habit of powering down when I put it on the charger and keeping it off until it's unplugged. Works everytime. I only had stock mm for a day then flashed alex6600s kernel.

In this mode and on table it drain about 0.5% by hour.
I know I'm probably jinxing myself but I'm finding the battery is *much* better in this build!

no battery drain so far
Since 4 days on MM....long way to go until we know for sure though...so far MM seems pretty stable...equal or improved over the previous one.
Quick update from M - 3rd day, 20% battery left. Thanks Sony
After update to MM I turned off gps, wifi and my watch not live more than day. It have about 5% power consumption per hour. What the problem is?
Havn't seen much change yet.
But even when the watch was om 5.1.1 it did good time. Two to four days between charging. Normal two days when using GPS for running every second day.
And so fare it behaves the same on 6.0.1.
No, it didn't. Not because it was 5.1.1's fault but it was app sync's fault.
I had only one battery drain on 6.0.1 - it was right after the very first setup. The same thing happened to me when I was setting up my watch the very first time while on 5.1.1.
On both versions, unpairing the watch, forgetting it in the app, resetting the watch and then, again, pairing it with the phone while plugged, letting it do its job during the sync process, not touching both the phone AND the watch for some time fixed the problem.
Battery life on 6.0.1 is very, very good. The watch lasts for about 3 days. Always On - ON, Gestures - ON, WiFi - ON... well, everything is on, even location.

exactly the same here, did the 6.0.1 update and battery down to 16% in less than 40 min.
Wiped everything, unpaired, did update again but now via PC companion, resetted everything again and now great battery life. 2x 20 min gps daily for bike ride and still 2 day battery life.

It drop to 10 after power ON the morning. When Power Off for the night it was at 46%
So no software issue (and never was software issue), just a deffective (deteriored) batt. I think there are faulty regulator charge circuit in SW3 and the battery overcharged. Just see how fast an SW3 can be charged, not normal charge process.
In general way, when a lithium batt drain faster after 50(40) % it mean batt is damaged.
I have normal drain from 50% to maybe 40%. Problem is after 40%.
So far I haven't suffered the random battery drain since the update.

Hi,
I use gsam battery monitor for years to see what drains my battery when my screen is off.
My stock, no carrier, HTC 10, has 12 minutes of "held awake" by hour, when on Wi-Fi at home.
That makes a result of 2 hours by day[emoji49]
With the same apps my m8 and two other Android deVices only have 45 minutes of "held awake" by day.
Could you please install gsam app and tell me your results?

I hate the gsam App, detest that ui Design.
But I have root now so better battery stats and amplify are installed. Flightmode WiFi connected wakelocks will come after I wake up tomorrow.

Have you posted a list of what you have amplified on your 10? I found guides from a year ago, but wonder if anything is specific to the 10.
Not much sleep last night xD
Sadly amplify and BBS used most energy.
And it seems like doze Mode killed WiFi ^^ even tought "always active in Standby" was activated.

Hi guys
I have started to notice a drain on my battery in the last day or so, I have installed ForcedDoze which helps my HTC 10 unlocked to enter Doze faster which has made my standby time especially overnight to be about 2-3% over a 7 hour period which is really good. Now I do not know what I have changed recently but I lost 12% last night and my phone normally has over 89% deep sleep, started to drop to the 70s...
Is there anything I can use to help diagnose the problem? I have GSAM and CPU Spy plus installed at present

Personally, I'd try uninstalling all 3 of those apps and monitor the situation. I just don't think you need those 3 apps running all the time. Android itself does a pretty good job of running and closing apps on its own.

Hello, I've had my xl2 for about 2 weeks ago and just got the 8.1 update 3 days ago.
I have a pretty strict morning routine when I wake up and unplug my phone pretty much the same time every morning and do the same things on it. Prior to 8.1, I'd lose about 3-4% every hour and now after 8.1 I lose minimum 10% per hour.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I am lazy to factory reset my phone and don't see how it can help since it was just a version update to oreo 8.0.
yeah.. i noticed the same issue as well.. cant be bothered to do a factory reset :/
Been experiencing the same. I did a factory reset and started completely fresh (no backup restore) yesterday.
It doesn't look promising.

Same issue here. I was spoiled for a few weeks being able to be on my phone all day and leave work with 60% remaining. Now, with similar usage, I'm between 35-40%. It's still sufficient, just noticeably worse compared to how it was prior to 8.1.
In a sense I am happy to read that others have the same experience because hopefully then Google notices and fixes this. How can we give this feedback?
I am able to still make it a day but now I have to be conscious about my usage and before I didn't have to worry at all.
I think it's Google Play Services 11.9.51
I installed 11.7.46 and it seemed to stop draining immediately, but it auto-updated an hour later and has continued to drain since.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I was planning on flashing 8.1 but after reading this maybe I should hold back on that. Afterall I'd only be missing out on AR stickers and a slightly improved camera software.
Can't say I've seen the same. At 50% I regularly get between 4-5 hrs SOT.
Mine isn't as stellar as others listed, but it's better than what I got on 8.0.
Of course, everyone's usage is different as are the many variables that each device deals with.
Comparing 8.0 to 8.1 using the same device, under similar usage and variables, is a good, practical measurement of better or worse battery life.
Comparing diff devices, under completely different variables (wifi, signal, usage, charging practices, etc.) is for the most part futile

Just updated this morning, but so far my battery seems ok. 5% used after 4.5 hours.
I noticed the 2 XL ate battery for a couple of weeks after new, then settled down and has had excellent battery use (rather lack thereof) after. I've also noted that after major system updates the battery use shoots up for a while then settles back down.
I think it is only now reporting more accurately, but overall it still loose .3% per hour when phone idle and 7 to 8% per SOT hour, still charging once every 2 to 3 days.
People who are experiencing poor battery: turn your WiFi off, reboot, don't reconnect to WiFi.
Spend some time then post your results.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I think the poor battery life in 8.1 is related to buggy charging system, the new machine learning in battery estimated is buggy, google need to fix it.
Hi Everyone, I think I may of found the culprit.
In developer options there is ""keep mobile data on on wifi" which I believe maybe was disabled for 8.0 and then enabled on 8.1
Just discovered this tonight, I also factory reset my phone, clear all Google play services memory and force stopped RCS service.
Will report back tomorrow.
Unfortunately, maybe a slight improvement where I lost 9% instead of 10-12% on the same usage.
Guess this badboy is going back and going to try the U11+.
I'm noticing the same thing.
I'm currently at 80% with 1hr 20 minutes SOT and 7hr 45 min off the charger. Prior to the 8.1 update, with similar usage I'd be at like 87%. At this rate I'll probably be getting like 7 hours SOT over like 20 hours which is still pretty good but not like the 9 hours SOT over 36 hours I got pre-8.1.
Battery Issue after update resolved
I resolved the battery issue by changing the Google Play Services app Open By Default value from 'open in this app' to 'ask every time' and now my battery is back to it full potential!
I have no idea how or why this setting was changed, but my battery was near worthless after the 8.1 update. Under normal usage, the battery would be depleted after only 4-5 hrs which is nothing compared to the normal battery life I usually get (>24 hrs - 36 hrs).
Change this setting:
Settings>Apps>All Apps>Google Play Services>Open By Default>Open supported links>Ask every time
Does anyone else use more than one Gmail account? I was using two and it seems like part of the problem is this. I removed an account and got 3 hours of sot on the 50% battery. Before that, I got 2h with 50%
For me it looks like turn wifi on automatically is the cause. Think it's in conjunction with the new play services. I did the WiFi off and reboot and everything was fine until that started kicking in
Few weeks later and still getting a piece of **** battery life. This is so lame.

I am in the United States and I feel the 10.0.8 update had a negative impact on battery life. At this time I don't have any hard data, but rather I've noticed that I am charging more often (once every 24 hours) when I used to go close to 48 hours between charges.
same. i wouldn't say that i have drastically worse battery life, but i notice it is a tad bit worse. like i could easily go a full day before. now sometimes i have to top off a bit later in the day if i'm going at night.
Here too have European Rom and after Update drain more fast.
I upgraded my US TMO phone to global 10.0.8 last weekend and actually the battery life has been better for me.
just to update, i have noticed my battery life improving since my last post. perhaps its my phone getting used to the new update? My battery life is now about the same as before the update. overall i am satisfied with this version.

After the first week I'm starting to notice more drain, maybe 5-10% more than usual. It might be figuring things out but it is annoying that I haven't used my phone a lot today and I'm at 53% remaining. That seems excessive when on Saturday I was above 70% for the same amount of usage. I'll go back through settings and make sure my changes are still applied.
Even i agree there i something in background that is draining battery and does not allow phone to sleep. Issue found after 10.0.7 and 10.0.8 that is latest version.
Normally, pre 10.0.7, my US/T-Mo 7T was around 25% by end of day. After 10.0.7, I would be at 40% around 3PM. The update also made my phone run hotter. Now, after the 10.0.8, my phone battery is actually DEAD by 3PM. Battery has gotten progressively worse, and unless there's a critical issue with the battery itself, the OS updates seem to be at fault here.
This is my first OnePlus phone, and pre 10.0.7, I absolutely loved it. Now, I'm really frustrated by the horrendous battery life and questioning whether to commit to the brand.
hello i am based in india using ONEPLUS 7T purchased on mid may hardly 3 months old updated to OXYGEN OS 10.3.3 HD65AA version since then experinencing 20-25% battery drain in one hour where as previously Battery Consuption per Hour was around 3-5% Per Hour on normal usage
upto that on updating Onplus Forum its not accepting my post on site and dosent reply to tweets even
