Fingerprint Sensor - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I know the IRIS scanner can only store one iris at a time. Does anybody know how many fingerprints? It would be amazing to have 10 lol

I've seen a YouTube video that shows you can open the phone with either eye.

I think it maxed out at four on the S7 so I would imagine the Note 7 would be the same. Especially with only one iris saved.

Buy S7 edge plus c pen and you get the note 7?

Hi All,
I saw a video review of the new c pen Samsung released for the tabpro S windows tablet. I can't embed a link, but it's on youtube. Turns out, it works very well with the S7edge. With the price of the S7 edge dropping and samsung essentially re-releasing this phone with a pen (Note7), I thought maybe for some users it might be worthwhile to consider buying the cheaper S7 edge plus the c pen. You save money, can port the grace UX rom and basically have a note7. Yes, the pen does not fit in the phone, but aside from that and the restricted iris scanner, is this a bad idea? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
cheers,
Rekil
Bad idea is not a good way to put it. I'd say more so that it is comparing a mouse to a elephant. The note 7 has features that the s7 does not have the s pen functionality is priceless if you need it. The iris scanner is for security of unlocking the device itself, also for protection of passport banking ect in a folder you can only access and even hide. I would say the note 7 is the better of the two.

I think you're grossly exaggerating. The hardware is 100% identical. Hardly befitting of a mouse vs elephant. With the Grace UX rom you get all the same pen features, just select manually. So, nothing missing. Finally, for one to believe the hype regarding the first gen tech of iris scanner, which samsung themselves point out is extremely restrictive,is highly naive. How good was the first gen fingerprint tech on the Note 4? Besides, the security can probably be achieved using the fingerprint anyways.
Having said all that, I'm still getting the Note7!

Nope. You're comparing a capacitive stylus using s/w to approximate pressure and location to a Wacom digitizer. The display not the pen is what makes a Note a Note. More here.

Yeah your Edge screen isn't going to suddenly sense 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and let you hover your pen over the screen to access drop down menus, etc.

As long as i know is the answer is No! S Pen stylus won't work on others than Galaxy Note series itself. Because all the Note series have an additional screen layer in their LCD Digitizer which allows the S Pen stylus that comes with them to work. So the answer is NO LAYER NO STYLUS SUPPORT.

Does the Iris scanner make anyone else's eyes feel slightly "tingly"?

What's happening guys.
I just setup the Iris scanner on my note. It's extremly fast and accurate, almost as fast as the fingerprint reader for me. However, has anyone noticed that their eyes are slightly "tingly" while using the scanner? I asked my bro (we got the BOGO offer from ATT) and he said yeah he feels the same way if he's too close. I'm holding the phone a good foot/foot and a half away and it works fine, but my eyes still tingle a bit. Almost as if they're strained. I'm not sure if this is some placebo or maybe it's my glasses (I have a large -8.0 correction on my vision).
Anyone else experiencing this?
It was until I took the metal fillings out of my teeth [emoji14]

Yeah, feels like eyes got shot with a laser
Better learn brail! lol
I set up my iris scanner with my contacts in my eyes, and always wear my contacts while using my phone, but I have not had any weird sensations while iris unlocking.

that's pretty much what happens.
it lights up your eyes with light outside the visible spectrum, but if it's too bright it can still burn a little.
Don't worry. After 100 years won't matter. Enjoy the device now. ???
There is a note in the warnings that cautions against holding it closer than 8-10inches to your face. I suspect it could cause damage like any other laser. I am passing on use of this(plus it doesn't work with glasses).

Huh. It's been working just fine with my glasses.
Not mine. I have polarized transitions lenses though so maybe that's why.

I've got the same.
Mine wont work unless im 6-8" away. I will try re-doing it tonight.
No

Samsung should get rid of the Iris Scanner...

Ok, here's the deal. Fingerprints is already enough advanced tech to protect a phone's content.
Why the heck would someone get laser in his face each time he looks into the phone? First thing I did when I had my Note 7 was disabling the Iris Scanner. I didn't even care if it worked properly or not. Fingerprint scanner was fast enough.
And the infrared light into your eye? really? Like you don't hurt your eyes enough with VR or the phone's screen itself all the time... Now you need an Iris Scanner to beam Infrared into your eye?
Someone sign a petition or something so they stop this technology and put, I don't know, maybe a second speaker for stereo sound instead of a completely useless tech that uses space and Processing.
I like the Iris scanner, it's faster and more reliable than the fingerprint scanner, as for it shining anything in your eyes, if you go out in the sun the light radiation from the iris scanner is nothing compared to the sun.
Just disable it and be done with it. It hardly takes and resources. Some people like it some don't it looks like it's here to stay judging by the rumors of S8, if you don't like it get a different device?
its one of the main sell point , so its definitely be staying , also samsung has never have been into sound department , look at the stock music player ,always sucks , lol and dont ask me why .
No......but thanks for bringing it up.
I use the iris scanner quite a lot actually, my work requires the use of gloves, therefore my fingerprints doesnt work. I used pins before, but there is nothing as fast and covenient as the iris scanner.

I have a similar problem with the fingerprint scanner, due to my work I hold and lift a lot of abrasive materials so my fingerprints tend to be really faint, the vast majority of the time the readers just can't get a read on my fingerprint, the advantage of the iris scanner is it worked pretty much no matter what as you are never affecting your eyes in a way that would make them hard to read.
I love the iris scanner. Let's sign a petition to make sure it's in the note 8 and s8

Signed. I love it. More secure and a 2nd line of defence after fingerprint. I use fingerprint to unlock the device and then have the really sensitive stuff - online banking etc - in the secure folder, locked with the iris scanner. It's a perfect setup imho.
I didn't care for the iris scanner. It didn't feel right to my eyes, plus it wasn't consistent enough as opposed to the fingerprints (which seem to work perfectly for me). But that said, I don't mind if it's part of the phone, I will just disable it again like I did previously.
Doesn't anyone understand that with the iris scanner you can unlock your phone easier and in a secure way when your hands are wet/ dirty. You know, because this is a water-resistant phone
Strange how everyone says keep it yet they weren't so fussed before they were even aware of it. Of course get rid of it, it's an intrusion on one's privacy (which is why it is also wise to tape over the front facing camera).
Lose it for sure, free up some space for battery venting.

strange I think that's how innovative works. nobody was really fussing for a fingerprint reader on phones before 2011
IRIS = SIRI
In plain sight, are you blind? SEE what EYE did there?
since i going to return the note7 tommorow when the box arrives, i going to play with it. when you first setup iris. it said "To protect your eyes, keep the screen at least 8" away during iris recognition", "Do not use iris recognition with infants. Doing so may damage their eyesight". This just makes me uncomfortable to use it.
... Or or just disable it on your phone, like you already did and let the people who like it continue using it, which i believe is the majority.
Not every feature is gonna be a hit with everyone, that's why they implement a cool little toggle for them in the features settings.
a extra hardware is better then none , yeah you paid it with hard earn cash , removing the iris scanner is like removing the ir blaster , a feature that some still like .
Iris scanner is just getting started. I don't use it, but it will be another feature that is more prevalent, not less in future phones. As others have said just disable it if you don't like it. I don't lock my phone often, but when I do I use fingerprint as it is very good on the N7. Fingerprint on my N4 didn't work worth a crap, but works great on the Note 7. It is always good to have choices.
I am largely indifferent. Not a deal breaker for me.

I think it is better to remove the heart rate, O2 sensors. Not many people use it. There are already smart watch, fitness band, & ask the wearable devices able to do that.
Bring back the IR blaster, FM radio, and removable battery...

Camera flickering/banding on my Pixel 2? Any app with proper anti banding?

Hi. Im using imported pixel2 from usa(60hz) and living in malaysia(50hz). It seems that it mess up the camera indoor under fluorescent light. I've been to retail store yesterday, opened camera app on iphone xs, xr, note9, p20 pro AND NONE OF THEM FLICKER, compared side by side with my pixel 2 in the same lights.
Is there any modded gcam app with anti banding? I'm so frustrated using the camera indoor. I feel like selling pixel2 and buy an iphone instead, at least it have proper anti banding.
Check out the example below(it can be worse)

I've noticed it more so with certain LED lights. 99% of the time I don't get affected by it. Why'd you take a video of your screen? Why not actually post the video you record? And why jump to an iPhone when you said a handful of Android phones that have great video cameras?

Yeah I've seen other videos demonstrating the issue. Unfortunate for outside the US. It affects pics too right?

Affects pic, yeah. But if i use Open Camera and use 50Hz anti banding or Lightroom camera and set shutter speed to 1/50 or 1/100 the flicker doesnt happen 95% of the time.
How much difference does Open Camera picture and Gcam, as in quality?
Btw : On Gcam, 4 out of 10 times flicker dissapear after 3-5seconds. Others, dont unfortunately.

Fingerprint unlock faster than S10+?

Anyone tested this? I'm not finding any info on this.

It is supposed to be the same.

Heard that the update Samsung has already rolled out is supposed to improve the fingerprint sensor.
It's the same speed with S10's. Although needs some try and error at first because the sensor has moved up.
I've been listening to and watching tons of reviews... I'd say most of them have said the scanner is much faster than the S10+.
More accurate than the s10 plus I had at launch. One of the reasons I returned it the s10. Happy with the fingerprint scanner on the note 10 plus so far.

I have a s10 5g and it's the same sensor that note 10 and yes, it's more accurate and quickly.

From Gizmodo:
"And while Samsung’s in-screen fingerprint sensor doesn’t affect display quality, one of the most pleasant surprises with the Note 10+ is how much faster its fingerprint recognition is compared to the Galaxy S10. The S10's in-screen fingerprint reader was a good replacement for rear-mounted options, but whatever Samsung did to the Note 10's sensor had made it noticeably superior."
There are many other reviews like this. I'm thrilled to hear this!
From CNET:
"The Note 10 Plus also fixes my two major complaints about spring's S10+: the in-screen fingerprint reader is dramatically more accurate this time around, and the camera's dedicated night mode improves photo quality in low light.
