Hey folks!
A friend of mine sent me his smartphone to repair but i'm sitting in a corner right now...
I never had a HTC before, not in my hands, not received by any other person - first try so far.
Here's the situation:
The battery from the smartphone was empty over a night.
Next day, when he want to start - it doesn't start and runs into bootloader.
He tried some things i think, but isn't really familiar with that.
The phone said in bootloader:
*** Software status: Modified ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
S-ON
For now i followed this tutorial "htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-root-your-htc-one-m8-0154444/".
I already received the "Unlock_code.bin" and uploaded to the phone - seems working, because it says "Unlocked".
After that i flashed the "openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.2-m8.img" - seems working, because it says "OKAY".
Than, i erased the cache, try to enter recovery, but it returns immediately to bootloader. :crying:
What i've done wrong?
Any hints what happens with the phone? How can i restore to stock easily?
He don't need special tools or anything else, just a working phone so far

That recovery version is very outdated. You were using an old tutorial.
If it were me, I'd find an RUU to run. What do you get from fastboot getvar version-main? Or better yet, post the results of fastboot getvar all minus the IMEI and serial#, and someone can direct you to the proper RUU

There's your problem. You don't have the M8. You have the M8S. The M8 recovery won't work on that.
The M8S has a separate forum here, and you can find the proper TWRP recovery for it in this thread.
You do have very old firmware though. Hopefully that recovery version will work as it is made for newer firmware. I think it will.

Hello guys, so today i decided to unroot my phone and go back to stock because i want to sell it. I started doing theunlockr.com method (http://theunlockr.com/2014/06/08/how-to-unroot-the-htc-one-m8-video/) in the step of flashing stock nandroid backup, i flashed it using TWRP restore utility, then i didnt find any folder in the gallery and there was around 5 out of 16 GB avaialible only, so i did a "fromat data", since it erases everything, i pushed the firmware 4.16.401.10 using ADB into the TWRP folder (it wasnt there so i created a backup and there i found it). Then i restored the nandroid backup, now there are 4.5GB used which i cant find and some folders still dont appear in file manager... and i have wifi issues, it doesnt connect to wifi and neither does mobile data work. I need help as soon as possible. ANy help is MUCH apprecciated. Than you guys. and if there is any other way to completely unroot hope someone would help.
PS, i am planning to flash stock recovery, its just i want to fix the current problemss then i can flash stock recovery and lock the bootloader.
Need more info. Do an adb getvar all, but remember to delete your IMEI and serial number (those are personal data) before you post the output.

The easiest way to go back to stock is to run the appropriate RUU.
Download this RUU onto your PC.
When the download if finished, hook your phone up to your PC and double click on the download.
Follow the prompts.
Super easy.
This will bring you back to stock including your stock recovery. It will also wipe your phone.

Thank you so much for your help, i will try this as soon as the download finishes. Is the normal M8 S-OFF or S-ON? and if it is either one, how do i change it? Because i want to go exactly back as it was in order to sell it.
Thanks again for your help ^_^

You are already S-On, and will remain that way.
The only differences from the day you bought it will be that the bootloader is unlocked, and the the stock ROM is the latest Android version (5.0.1 Lollipop instead of 4.4.2 Jellybean), just as it would be if you had remained stock and updated through the OTA updates from HTC and your carrier.

Oh and also as i said above, last time i tried the wifi wasnt working and there was no storage visible (no folders even though there is something taking up space). Will these problems go away?

Without S-Off (which costs $25), you can only set it to re-locked status and not locked, so I wouldn't bother.

From your getvar. Hook up to your PC, get into ADB, and enter adb getvar all.
Post the readout here. Edit out your IMEI and serial# from it first. That is private information that you should never post on a public forum.
EDIT: I saw your bootloader readout in the thread you started. There is no RUU available for your device (Vodafone) that I am aware of. Sorry.

Yup that did the trick, its now back to stock unrooted and everything is working perfectly fine. Thank you so much ^_^
Ok, I feel insanely stupid, but last night I flashed LiquidSmooth on my phone and everything looked awesome. I didn't realize it until this morning that the sound doesn't work on the phone (my alarm didn't wake me up), and out of curiosity, I started digging around and realized that it wasn't able to play videos and the microphone didn't work for any apps. As I looked online, I realized that I needed to update my firmware to get my functions back. Since I haven't done this before, I jumped online and followed along with a guide that told me to run the command 'fastboot oem lock' before I flashed the firmware. It was early, so I didn't think about it until I hit enter and then realized that I just relocked my phone that runs off of an unlocked recovery/ROM.
Upon booting, it shows the bootloader screen:
*** TAMPERED ***
***RELOCKED ***
***Security Warning***

If I choose to try to go into the bootloader, it reboots the device and ends up right back at FASTBOOT. The only other screen I am able to get it into is the black HTC bootloader (fastboot reboot oem rebootRUU).
I've done some research on it, and it looks like I absolutely must unlock the bootloader before I can do anything, but without being able to boot into adb to run Firewater, I can't think of any other way. I feel like the OS 1.10.605.10 being red is what stands out to me, but I am unable to find a 1.10.605.10 signed/encrypted RUU to flash to it (anything unsigned fails). Near bottom of second post is a link to the ruu for the version of your firmware so you can use rumrunner to s-off and unlock again. Be sure to download the signed one. You would flash it in ruu mode (fastboot oem rebootRUU, then fastboot flash zip ruu.zip twice to successfully flash the ruu). You could use the 4.4.3 s-on ruu, but then to unlock and s-off you would have to use sunshine.

Thank you!
I couldn't find the signed firmware anywhere else, so I nearly gave up. This totally worked and my phone is now alive and well!

Since it appears you are using the US unlocked version, why not use the Windows RUU to restore it? I don't have the link handy, but you can download it from HTC. Just put your device into download mode and go. It will blow away your recovery, but that's easy enough to restore.

I forgot to mention I tried that, and it errored out near the end. I think I may have managed to fix it by loading the rom from Insert-coin onto an SD card, and mounted it and installed through TWRP.
Its currently optimizing apps, so I think I should be home free at this point.
I feel kinda dumb by asking for help then figuring it out myself not long after, but it happens sometimes.

Your "OS" and version-main are blank because there was a bug in the TWRP version you are using.
Update to TWRP v2.8.7.0 or newer, reflash your current firmware or update it if you haven't already, and your OS and version-main will show the version of firmware you are running again.

If you tell us what RUU (exact file name) and the specific error number and error message, we can probably tell you why the RUU failed.

Good job figuring it out yourself.
You're not an idiot (common mistake) but here are a few good rules to live by, when modding Android devices:
1) Always make a TWRP backup of your current ROM (and user data, if desired - but that's always a good idea too) and have it handy, so you can recover from such situations (no OS). That is one of the main functions an benefits of having TWRP, the ability to make backups and use them to recover.
If you have a TWRP backup, recovering from "no OS" is simply as booting into TWRP, and restoring the backup.
My typical recommendation, is to make a TWRP backup before root (so you have a backup of the "stock" unrooted ROM) and prior to every time you flash a new ROM, or flash other mods. That way, if any of those mods go wrong, you can still revert back to a "known good" configuration.
2) If you don't have a TWRP backup on hand, know how to flash a ROM to recover from "no OS" (now you know how!)
3) I'm guessing you wiped "system" in TWRP to cause no OS (this the most usual cause)? If so, be careful what you choose to wipe in the "Advanced" wipe options of TWRP. Don't wipe anything, if you don't know what it is, or what the result will be. You've probably already learned this lesson, to some extent.
Hello people

After that my phone became crazy and slow so I did factory reset but it was the same.
Now I'm stuck in fast boot and can't do anything. Nothings are working can't even boot (stuck in HTC logo).
When I connect charger phone goes fast boot automatically.
When I select recovery phone goes off and back to fast boot again, factory reset is the same.
I googled this for more than 5 hours yesterday and found RUU file but it stops on sending(0/8).

You have to find the appropriate RUU:
https://ruu.lalleman.net/HTC_M8S(QL_UL)/RUU/
I dont know which one to use, maybe someone else can help you find the right one.
Code:
##########################################
## How to use RUU
##########################################
1. Download the RUU for your device
2. Extract the RUU on your computer
3. Launch ARUWizard.exe

You can follow this post instruction ( skip the part of relocking bootloader )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
easy way :
Download the RUU.zip from the linked post and rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip then put it in your external sd card root and reboot to bootloader ( hboot )
It will ask you to update confirm it and wait for a few minutes till it finish and ask you to reboot, that's it

Bootloader info is great. But if you are asking for help, you really need to tell us more about what is going on with the phone. I gather from the subject of the thread, that your device is stuck in bootloader. But how did it get to that state? Did it just happen spontaneously (while using the phone, or when you tried to turn the screen on after idle for a while, etc.?). Or were you trying to do something, like unlock bootloader, install custom recovery TWRP, root, flash custom ROM, etc. Or some other function, like install an OTA update? If trying to flash something, provide exact details like version numbers, file names; as well as exactly what happened when you tried to install (changes to status of phone, error messages, etc.).
Have you tried anything so far to resolve the problem? If so, describe exactly what you tried, again with any applicable file names, version numbers, and outcomes (error messages, etc.).
The more specific details you provide, the better we can help you.
Stuck can't get phone to connect to PC
Hi, I have an HTC One M8 which I just got secondhand, it's stuck on bootloader screen, usual messages ('modified' 'locked' etc)... I followed the instructions for RUU flash on other posts and am all set to go, but annoyingly my phone will not connect to any PC I use....I have installed the drivers etc...I am well used to using ADB, just can't get the phone to be recognised.
I also can't boot into recovery, just ends up back in the bootloader screen again. If it does try and boot it hangs at the logo screen....
Would welcome some ideas on where to go next....

adb won't work in bootloader mode, by definition. You want fastboot for running RUU, which is related to adb, but with important differences.
As long as you are in bootloader-fastboot mode (fastboot is highlighted near the top of the bootloader screen) which is often default if phone is connected by USB, you should be able to use fastboot. Try the command:
fastboot devices
And as long as the phone's ID is returned, you should be good to go.
If the command just results in "waiting for response" or an error, try a different USB cable, or a different USB port on your PC.
Still no go... Tried connecting on different ports and with different cables but just doesn't seem to work. Best I've managed is with the Aruuwizard tool which seemed to connect but I couldn't get much further. If I run fast boot devices it returns no device... Just a blank line....
Hello. I have a similar problem with my HTC One Mini. It's stuck in fastboot mode and trying to reboot/boot into recovery or factory reset does nothing...goes black for a sec and then back to fastboot mode. Bootloader is unlocked and it's S-ON. Any help much appreciated! Cheers!
