Hello everyone. I am using an unrooted HTC 10.
A few days ago I switched off my phone overnight, in the morning when I turned it on, I noticed that the HTC welcome screen flashes and then goes back to to black and instantly flashes again, while vibrating every time it flashes. Sometimes it would do that 2 times, sometimes more. And then finally it boots normally and the phone would start.
It happens only when I switch off and power on my device, not when I restart it.
I've done a factory reset but that doesn't seem to resolve anything, as the issue still exists.
Thank you, in advance, for any responses.
Your help in any form, such as suggestions and opinions, is much appreciated.

It's the same as with the buttons back light and the charging LED, and has been mentioned numerous times all over different threads. It's a software and hardware self-check when booting up. Mine does the same during boot up.

Today, It happened again. But now, i cannot even get into the CWM recovery. Someone please help!!
as of now, it just pulse vibrates with a blank screen. (it shows "samsung" and then starts vibrating).
How can i fix this?

Yeah my phone has done that once before, but not with Liquid smooth. I remember it just giving me a blank screen with vibrations that didnt stop. I couldn't tell you what caused it or anything but I remember just taking the battery out for awhile, using a different charger (it worked for me), and just letting it stop doing whatever it was doing lol.. It probally went on for like 2 hours or so but I was doing whatever I can to turn it back on. I hope it works for you, just keep messing with it and it should stop eventually. Good luck

From what I've read, sounds like your power button could be stuck.

It was exactly that. I fixed it last night.
Solution: I took a small pin and a small flathead screw driver and picked the edges of power button. eventually it started up again!
Hi,
My phone has been working fine since I did S-off and installed a LeeDroid 2.3 ROM a year ago. This wednesday I had to install another ROM because of boot loop problems with the previous one. I used VJ CM10.1 v5.3 which worked amazing for almost 2 days. Yesterday at night while the phone was charging I couldn't unblock it (black screen) and the orange led kept light event without usb cable. I removed the battery and since then the phone only vibrates continuously when I turn it on. Even without battery if I use an USB cable it starts vibrating inmediatly, of course with any screen response (in the dark you can see a very light attempt to start the screen but nothing else). The PC don't detect anything when I plug it and I can't use any key combination to get to Recovery.
I wasn't doing anything dangerous, only charging but the ROM was only 2 days old. Does anybody now what is happening or how could I fix it? Sorry if It has been responsed but I think not (It's no the 7 vibrations problem).
I can provide more information if needed. Thanks a lot.
Take out the battery, hold the power button for 10 seconds, then try to boot.

Same result. It only vibrates. I'm considering hardware fault (is 2 years and half old) but as I changed the ROM this week seems to be somewhat related.
Before we come to a conclusion, let's try all the stuff we can.
Does the phone boot in hboot?
No, all key combinations apparently have the same result.
The last thing i'd like you to try is putting your phone in the freezer with the battery taken out. Who knows, maybe it will boot afterwards.
If not, then send it to a service.
Thanks a lot, I will try. By the way, I've started saving money to buy the Nexus 4

Hi everyone,
About 3 months ago I flashed a new rom which I found on this website under the stable tab.
I couldn't have been happier with the new system, everything worked perfectly, but now yesterday I was browsing the google play store when my screen suddenly laggs and gets stuck. So I waited at first, but after a while I tried to closing the screen to let him rest and resolve.. which didn't do anything, and that was strange to begin with. Suddenly the screen went black and did not want to open up again, I waited several hours, still nothing. I placed him i the usb charger and there is no indication that it's charging, no green or orange light. It doesn't respond when I try turning it on/off, or use power/volume down button.
My phone seems dead at it is atm, and I'm really sad.. anything I can still try? Help would be much appreciated.
edit: update, tried charging it again, the range led is blinking now, when I try turning it on while charged the main touch buttons enlighten and dim emediately after. GOing to let it ' charge ' for a bit now.
Miracle! Miracle!!!

Hi OP,
Just wonderedhow long you left it between your unsuccessful charges and the time it worked. Happened to me yesterday, tried to charge it all night and no luck.
Cheers.

Connect it to your PC and check if it shows QHSUSB_DLOAD as the driver.
If this is shown, you may have done something like this, so you hard bricked it.
You may try this software fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788227) or this (http://www.jtagbox.com/jtag-news/ri...nbrick-unlock-supercid-imei-repair-supported/) to exit the mode.

Hey guys
I was super happy with my Australian Telstra M9 until an hour ago. I plugged it with 3% of battery in for charging and turned it off to speed the process up. When it was off the charging icon showed up just as usual. After a few hours I came back, unplugged the phone and it flashed 100% for a second. After that - nothing! It just won't turn on! I pressed every button and every possible combination of those. I plugged it back in for a bit and connected it to my laptop. But it's not even recognized. I googled for a bit but found no solution. I rooted the phone a couple of weeks ago but didn't do anything like that today. No updates, no new apps only some WhatsApp and 9gag.
What do you reckon? Is it bricked? Will I get a replacement and how long will that take? I have to leave Australia in 9 days so I'm quite on a schedule. -.-
Does anyone have any advice?!
Cheers Max
Edit: is there a chance to recover the data? I'm traveling and forgot to back anything up. Some of the data is quite important. And do you think I'll get into trouble because of the root?
No clue, try a different charger maybe.
I tried three different charges plus my laptop. Neither of them worked. Is there gonna be any way to rescue the data from the internal storage or will the just wipe it after they repaired it?
I would try holding the power and volume up button for at least 2-3 minutes. If it does come on, as soon as you feel it vibrate, move your finger down to the volume down button and hold it until you get into download mode. Then boot to the bootloader and then recovery and restore a nandroid.
Oh my god!!! Thank you so much! I have no idea why but after a minute it booted up just fine an all my data are still there. I'm never ever gonna forget a backup anymore. But what happend? Why did it start again? Battery is down to 50% so it seems it has been running all night and was stuck at some point. What can I do to avoid this from happening again? I don't wanna get a heart attack every time the phone won't turn on
But for the moment I'm alright! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hold power + volume up button will work in most cases.
TBH, don't really know what happened to you. Did you flash custom rom, recovery? or only root?
I didn't know that. I only new power + vol down. And I didn't hold it for a minute. I did nothing but flashing TWRP and root the stock rom. I didn't even change much with the root and only use it for titanium backup and adaway. That's why I was so baffled, when the phone suddenly "broke" because I didn't do anything unusual to it.

I'm glad you got your phone up and running. I know exactly how you feel, I had the same thing happen to me. I thought mine died when the screen went black after I flashed a kernel. Its always scary when the phone won't respond.
The phone was likely frozen. Power + Volume Up forces the phone to reboot after being held for a while. It could be some weird software issue due to the rooting and TWRP, but no one can say for sure. It might happen again but now you know how to reboot it If you really want to avoid the possibility of problems, you probably want to run stock and not root the phone or change bootloader... but what's the fun in that?
You're right no risk no fun. I'm actually waiting for cm so running stock is no option anyway
Thanks for saving me lots of headaches
FYI - I thought I had bricked mine as well - no flashing activity in a couple of weeks, all good chargers. Even made an appointment for repair.
Read the "hold power and vol up for a minute or two," and was like... nooooo... 10 seconds is the max you'd do that for... but tried it... bam, worked like a charm at ~45 seconds for me. Got into HTC FTM mode in which no option worked (reboot to bootloader, simlock, couple of others seemed to just pop immediately back to this weird non-download menu). Holding power for a while after that reset the device. Working now.
Thanks for the thread... been doing this for five years and this is the first no-charge no-response event I've had

Worked like a champ, thanks a ton! :good:
Hi All,
About a week ago my M9 powered down while on charge and then wouldn't power on again. No response at all from the standard power button but only holding it for a few seconds at a time.
I knew the buttons to hold to enter bootloader and after several tries it powered on again.... It then ran for a couple of days with no issues.
Then a couple of days later had to power off the phone on a flight - same issue - wouldn't power on - dead.
It took several attempts to bring it back to life. I'm now in a position when every time I power off the phone it just doesn't want to come back on? Thought that it may have been a custom rom issue or a kernel issue - have tried changing both (painful experience by the way - having to wait for the phone to decide when its ready to wake up "when it feels like it after each new installation) but the problem is still there.
I have also found that entering bootloader using the power button and volume button isn't the only solution to "waking up" the phone. Just holding the power button for 10-60 seconds has the same effect - but it sometimes takes several attempts over several minutes - its very random.
Does anyone else have this recurring problem every time they power off? Does anyone on "stock" have the problem?
I'm starting to think that maybe its hardware rather than a software issue?
Try turning off the phone, plugging in the charger, and holding all three buttons for two minutes.
HTC has recommended this as a fix for battery issues like the slow charging bug. Apparently it clears all the battery settings and recalibrates it. The phone will reboot repeatedly while you're doing this, but that's normal. Keep holding the buttons.
I have seen HTC phones do this in the past when the battery system gets confused.

Ah you cannot even get it charged anymore?
I know HTC phones had an issue that when they are completely drained, they seem to be dead, even not charging or anything. Yet if you keep them in the charger, eventually they would show as charging and being able to turn on again.

Leave it in connected to the stock charger overnight and see if that helps. If not, you might have a hardware fault and need to return it for warranty service.
I too thank you most profusely!!
Hey. So just yesterday I flashed Venom's kernel (could be completely unrelated to the issue). However today my phone froze up and when I tried to reboot it all it does is vibrate. The screens stays off completely and all it does it vibrate once every minute or so. I tried the guide to unbrick it and restoring it with xFSTK but it's basically impossible since it keeps rebooting and it is only detected for a couple of seconds before it disconnects again. I managed to get it to install dnx,fwr droidboot and ifwi. But when xFSTK tries to start it up nothing happens and it times out. Hopefully someone can help me here. Never seen anything like this before
I think I saw somewhere a similar thread. Their solution was to let the battery completely drain before starting it back up. Maybe it will help?

I tried opening up the phone and remove the battery. Then left it detached for a while, then reattached it. Since making it run out of battery could take days. I will still try that however. But detaching it and reattaching it did nothing unfortunately. Went right back to vibrating every minute or so with just a black screen
