It's really not that big of an issue. Just get a cable that's Benson approved and you'll be fine. There's plenty of them.

I read about this too. I'm new to the Nexus 5X and USB Type C. From what I read, this was mostly an issue with laptops right? Or is it desktops as well? And is it USC Type-C to Type-C or Type-C to Type-A also? Using these cables are fine for just charging in an AC outlet right? It was a bit confusing to me.

It's only a type A to type C issue. C to C is fine. And yes, using these came just for charging us fine. I use one with a Samsung charging block for overnight charging.

Thanks for the info. Have people been having issues with desktop PCs as well or is it just a laptop thing? I only have a desktop computer so I'm just wondering if I need to worry about it.

Don't see why it would make a difference whether desktop or laptop. USB A is the same for both.

Hmm. Well I just bought these before finding out about the issue.

I haven't received them yet so I don't know what they are like yet. I only need to plug in my phone to my computer for rooting or going back to stock every now and then. I don't have it plugged in for very long. I guess I'll just have to be careful with them and hope they don't do any damage.

Being so cheap, those cables might not even work for data. Could be charging only cable. Just saying.

You could learn all you want from Googler Benson Leung's G+ profile. If you want to skip that, just pick something from his list of reviewed products on Amazon. I purchased ta car charger from his recommendation and it's been great for me after three months or so. The man knows his stuff.

After researching a bit, I saw someone on Google+ created this app that tests cables for the Nexus 5X, 6P and Pixel C. For anyone else who wants to test their cables. I'll test mine when I get them
Google+ post I found it on: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+GeoffHoff/posts/eMsr1cyw75s
App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mderezynski.checkr

Reading more about it now, this really came to light back in the end of 2015 to beginning of 2016. Hopefully by now, less places are selling those bad cables. But it's probably still best to be safe

i have find this cable.. bensen has approved a usams cable but that was in white color and he said that its not harmful but is slow to charge.. now what about this cable ? nylone braided ?

Here's the ongoing approved list:

Touch screen goes crazy while charging

INFO:
Yesterday the screen was completely unusable, it looked like it was not calibrated (like the old qtek's and htc's) and was not only unresponsive but also very slow, so it did click where and when you didnt want.
CONCLUSION:
after some time I realized and was able to duplicate it when the phone was connected to the wall charger thru the USB cable.
Gotta say im using a really cheap wall charger USB connection because the one from the box is not working. (do have any idea why is this?)
In some threads, it also says it is a common issue in SGS2 but no one says anything about SGN.
Do you have the same issue?
read your user manual. It states this there. Did you watch that xda video when you joined?

I know nothing about this issue, but if I were you I'd stop using that charger immediately. If that's the only time it happens the Nexus might be getting over 5.0v from the charger.

Had same problem w/ cheap charger. It would be all funky touch screen. This happens to most of my other phones too w/ that same charger (Nexus One, Nexus S, G2X).
+1
Also happened with my sgs, so i bought another charger. An official charger. Not that expensive.
I have the same issue
Hi guys, sorry for the revive, but I'm having the same issue as the OP but with both official usb cable and wall charger that came with the phone. Is there any way to fix it? Or should I get another official charger?
Its a voltage issue between the charger and phone. Its been that way since android began.

[Q] Charging Cable

The wall UNIT is fine but the OEM cable doesnt work anymore.
I am using a old BLACKBERRY microUSB cable with it now and I noticed it charges a bit slower than the OEM.
Anyone have any suggestions on amazon or something for cables that are like close to OEM?
Thanks guys!
Why not address this with the company that sold you the phone?

If you happen to own a kindle with worn out cable give Amazon a call and they will give you discount on it.

Guys this is just s standard urn cable with a micro usb end. I actually have a thick BlackBerry cable plugged into the wall plug that came with my phone and everything is good.
Although I do remember the skyrocket, where people had to be really specific on what they used to charge their phones because if they didn't they would actually have a charging wake lock, but this doesn't seem to be the case on this phone!

broke my Nexus 7 microsd cable..where to find oem replacement?

This morning I woke up and the microsd cable was broken, I guess in my sleep I bent it and it won't charge any more..(just the cable part) from the charger. Is there a place online to buy the oem original asus cable or something compatible? Something that will charge as fast as the original one.
I use a genuine BB cable from a 9900 Bold and it shows charging at AC rate, not USB.

Pretty much any micro usb cable from a reputable manufacturer will work (its the chargers where you get the differences). I've used my S3 cable, an old Motorola cable, and a monoprice (generic) cable for charging it and other devices with no problems.
Some generic cable don't work very well. I've had charging problems. You can get the Motorola cable pretty cheap on amazon.
Mine stopped working after about 3 weeks. The cable was never bent or even removed from the wall adapter either! It's very possible that you didn't bend the cable in your sleep, and instead the cable just stopped working like mine did. Since then, I've just been using one of my many HTC cables plugged in to the Asus wall adapter that came with my N7 FHD. It works perfectly!

This is true! I think the post you quoted would have been better stated by saying that any cable FROM A REPUTABLE MANUFACTURER should work just fine. Not just ANY cable because, unfortunately, there are many 3rd party cables that are just junk. If you have a cable from your current or previous phone, and it's a phone manufactured by a reputable company, then it should work without a problem.

Fixed my post I've never bought a no name cable but I can imagine if they're cheaply/poorly built they'll have terrible impedance and charge too slow.
Also note that really long cables will charge slower (unless they use lower guage wire)
For Monoprice, avoid the 24AWG ferrite bead ones (the ones that go for about $1 for a 3-foot one). While they seem like quality cables at first, I've had 4 and 3 of them have gotten flaky over time (the D+/D- ones broke on one of them so it doesn't talk to a computer anymore, and the other two often lose connection when moved around).
I have a bunch of different standard cables from eBay (different lengths), even the colorful ones. All work without problems. It's a digital cable ( 2 data and 2 power lines). if it's not broken or shorted any cable should work. Of course if you approach the maximum length (5m -15 ft) of usb and the cable is not up to the specs it may start failing but for 1-3 m should not have problems with any cable. If we speak about the power adapter (not cable) it's another story. There are many variants and not all provide the specified power, but if the specs are correct the 2A and 3A ones should work. Car adapters , an even more different story. I'm not using my Nexus 7-2 in car (have a build in Android navi now), but I used the first gen Nexus 7, and I tried 3 different adapters until I found one which provided enough power to charge the tablet with GPS and navi on (most will let the tablet slowly discharge). I think this model require less power so maybe even some which did not work will work now.

Output:5.2V 1.35A/7W for other USB device
Input:100-240V AC, 50/60Hz universal
I attached two pictures using battery monitor widget. Just adding in too my n7 is unlocked and rooted but completely stock other than that. The first picture is with the Asus USB cable that came with the device and the second picture is with my 6ft premium cable from monoprice. Sorry if this isn't what you were asking for.

I haven't actually been able to test the time it takes to fully charge since I usually charge it overnight but I'll try to run some tests and time how long it takes with the different cables and I'll post my findings. From what I've seen so far from using it, I haven't noticed any difference with charge time between the stock cable and the monoprice one With my experience using it to charge my droid razr (xt912) definitely no difference with charge time compared to the stock motorola usb cable. I'm sure with the n7 it's totally fine.

This happened to mine as well. I have taken it apart and tightened the micro usb socket twice now. Works for a while but the overall design is the problem. This has always been a problem with micro usb and is why proprietary sockets are far superior to micro usb despite all the blather I hear about how convenient micro usb is. You can convert proprietary ports when needed and they dont fail like this.
My other two Android devices are like two years and both use micro USB, and they still work fine. It might be the design of the Nexus 7 itself.

I had this problem with my old Samsung Captivate. It would get so bad the cable would actually fall out. Have you tried a new cable? I thought my phone was damaged but I ordered a new OEM cable because I damaged the original and it also happened to fix the charging and loose connection issues. After a while, it happened again so I just ordered a few more cables on eBay. The reason I chose OEM cables was because the Captivate had a sliding door for the USB cable that often wouldn't accommodate a standard connector. After that experience, I try to stick with OEM cables when possible, just to be safe.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Free mobile app
Mine is different. The micro USB would perfectly fit into the port. I would feel and hear a confident strong click and the movement is minimal. However, it would not sometimes charge and have to play with the cable while at the port.
Funny... I though I was alone 'cause no one would write about it..
I got 3 cables, all with slight different behaviors but generally loose, one of them actually falls off.
Patience is highly and thoroughly tested when I want to transfer data to my nexus.
Mine is loose. I have to slip a piece of paper in with the cable to pack it. Otherwise it won't charge.
Mine is loose but that's my own doing lol but using a different usb mini seems to work

Charging cable hard to remove (5x)

Is it normal that the cable is that hard to remove if you push it till the end (it clicks and starts quick charging )if you dont push it till the end it says only "charging". I'm worried that i might break the port , if it helps im from italy so its a eu white charger.

Overall it's evidently a better design this fixes the issue with micro USB ports breaking and loosely fitting after some time
The fitment if u can tell is sturdy, it will catch on to people when they start selling these commonly in stores as a type c to type A cord for phone to pc connection.
I don't like the type c on the other end where it should be a type A .
Right now the adapters are cheap online 6$ but like 15$ at best buy.

I swapped the cable plugs with the one that i had previously in the charger and it comes out much easier, i also have the official adapter from google and that one comes out even more easier, but still tbh i like the charger i think its better to have a rigid cable/charger then the one i had previously on my n4
