So after upgrading to MM, I noticed that a process called "logd" was always in the top few apps of battery hogs in GSAM Battery Monitor. Instructions on the Internet on how to fix this all don't apply to the Verizon G4, so I am sharing here how to do it in case someone else runs into it.
So first of all confirm you have the problem. When you open a terminal and run 'top -m 5', if you see a process called logd spiking up to 16% frequently every few seconds then you know you have the problem as well.
Now in order to address the issue,
1. Type ##228378 in the dialer and press call. It should bring up the hidden menu
2. Select "Log Enable"
3. Select "Disable"
4. Reboot the phone
Now the battery hogging of logd should be history. You can use the terminal method above to confirm, the frequent spikes to 16% CPU should be gone.

It does work, I've already try it
As far as working, I was able to disable it, no clue if it helps battery life.

It will help battery life, how much exactly and if you will notice it depends on your individual usage pattern. But I have noticed a great bump in battery life since doing this tweak (and also debloating some apps). My battery life with MM is now at least as good as it was on Lolipop, while it was noticeably worse than Lolipop before.

According to this, has something to do with logcat: https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comments/42au1r/psa_how_to_fix_60_marshmallow_logd_battery_drain/
No clue why it eats up that much CPU on the LG G4 though, that looks like a bug or bad configuration. Every few seconds it spikes up to 16% CPU for several seconds, which means it utilizes one core (probably high-performance core) 100% for that time. I have another LG tablet where this process is running too, but nowhere close in battery usage there.
Can anybody that has tried this report back whether they saw an impact on battery life?
I have been having the 'Logd' problem for some time, with terrible battery life as a result. I have tried this fix, and at first it seemed to be working. However the Logd process has returned to consuming between 20-30% of my battery life despite Disabling the Log function in the hidden menu.
Has anyone discovered any other fixes for this problem? Seems as though there are limited options for VS986 owners who experience this problem.
Thanks,

Hi
I have received the Find 7a . Tho only issue I have with that is the huge battery drain when off ( even with data and wifi off )
Therefore I want to create a thread where we can share the solutions for this battery drain issue.
PS: I am running ColorOS 2.0 beta
cheers

I dont understand why people keep complaining about the battery. I use my 7a a lot and the battery lasts me just fine and I have Wi-Fi and GPS always on.

It's a known issue, I'm actually in a pilot group with a product manager and developer using a new firmware based on 1.2 that seems to help.
In the meantime, change the lockscreen from Colorlock as that has been known to hold a wakelock and disable Google's location services.
After I did that on 1.2 or 2.0 beta my drain shot down to .5%/hr.
I too am part of said pilot group that Sean mentioned and can confirm that a more battery saving firmware is in the works.
Give oppo some time to work the issue out, it's starting to look better.

Freezing applications/disabling them is basically the same as removing them, except that they still take up space on the system. You can freeze applications using Titanium Backup as you said and if you have root of course. If you want to completely remove the applications you should get a file explorer that can request root permissions, then look for the applications you want to remove, these can usually be found in "/system/app/" or "/system/priv-app/". You can also remove them using adb, this is a little more complicated though, if you want to do it this way I'd recommend you to Google it. Be careful when removing files from the system though, as you may run into some weird situations, you can always make a backup of course. (when restoring back-upped files, remember to set the correct permissions)

I'm on 2.0 beta, changing that to Revolving lock and disabling Google's location services (gimps the phone a bit sure but easy to enable and gps is still fine) and my drain is down to .6%/hr. Not too shabby, and will be testing tonight with location back on.
have been using the find 7a for nearly a week now. all i can say is...be patient, people! the first 2 days i had it, the battery drain is unbearable(8~12hr use and it's gone), but after 3~4 full cycle charged (start charging when below 10% then fully charged using 'battery doctor'), from the 4th day, the battery is amazing, easily get past 24 hours of use with data and wifi always on, screen on time 3 hours+ no problem. my current used time: 34 hr 26 m, with screen on 2 hr 7m, battery still 33%. Google location service is on all the time, Google now is off all the time. GPS off most of the time. running color OS 2.0 beta.
so be patient and charge your battery for few full cycles.
i hope this may help you guys.
Even Oppo has publicly stated the massive battery drain is a known issue affecting all Find 7a phones sold to date so I'm thinking denying there is an issue is a bit silly at this point. Also 2 hours screen time with 33% remaining is a terrible performance that sits at approximately half of what this phones current competition is offering.
Having has this from day one I would also point out that one of the problems associated with this is the inconsistency. I normally will see around 15 percent drain overnight but occasionally its as little as 5 or as high as 70. The problematic part comes in when you figure I've spent most nights testing some new scheme to see if I've made any improvements to the standy life.
Nor do I think its a good idea to accept excuses. On my N5 I never turned anything off, bluetooth, wifi, google now, location, etc. All on all the time and never had a problem getting 4 hours of screen time and never used more than 5% over night. That would of course make it nothing special since I haven't owned a phone since back somewhere around the sgs2 that couldn't do the same thing and there have been lots of phones between here and there. You shouldn't have to turn the phones features off to get the phone to work, being forced to means you are getting a sub industry standard experience. Calling it anything else is a lie.
Am i the only one who is facing immense battery drain on the latest update 2.19????
When i was on 2.18, battery life was much stable for me, but ever since i got the 2.19 update, the battery drains about 10% overnight.
Sometimes, it is even large.
So i just wanted to ask whether it is just me or everyone is facing these issues???

Its even worse than my 2300mAh device.
I still hope that Asus remembers the battery bug. They have released OTA's, but they have introduced many more bugs.
From what i have read so far, the kernel is faulty. Now that we have our bootloaders unlocked, we can expect a good Dev to debug and recompile the kernel.
AOSP Android should come soon to Zenfone 2
Try clearing cache. Go to autostart manager and stop apps you don't use from starting at boot. In battery settings change your power management profile to smart saving or custom if you know what you're doing.
I keep Bluetooth, NFC, sync and location on always and don't face battery issues.
I haven't been having battery issues. I uninstalled most of the junk apps, so I wonder if you're seeing something from one of those.
Install GSam Battery Monitor and check on your app usage after a while.
on the 2.19 OTA, I left my phone idle for an hour and it drained 5% battery. Yikes!
Okay, So i got the culprit.
I have 2 Sims Installed. 1st one is a local Sim. Whereas the Second one is a Roaming one (National Roaming, not international) with a big "R" besides it.
So i just disabled the Second Roaming Sim from Dual Sim Settings, And bingo!!!. Battery drain stopped. The device seems to be constantly searching for a local network on the second sim.
Additionally, If you read the release note of the 2.19 OTA. You will see:-
7 Improve service stability
10 Improve signal bar stability for sim 2

So, i guess, that Asus improved the SIm 2 slot stability, which probably is forcing my device to constantly find a stable or local network.
Now i have Manually selected my operator. Lets See! :fingers-crossed:

Same here. Though i have not Rooted. I just uninstalled the apps that were uninstallable.
Will give Gsam a shot. Ty for the App suggestion.
I too am facing the battery issues and the other thing is that sometimes just randomly the 2nd sim stops working with the message that it's not installed...
So if the analysis is that it's the apps which drain it then can someone share a debloated rom... Got the bootloader unlocked for the TWRP now might as well use it..
2.18 was rough for me. After 4 complete charges it stabilized. Updated to 2.19, rooted, bootloader unlocked, and TWRP installed yesterday. 100% charge at 9pm last night. This morning at 6am it was down to 91%. Approximately 50 minutes of pandora streaming over cell data this morning and its down to 81% now. Until a fix or CM is released, I take my charger wherever I go.
Hello guys, i just found the solution for the problem! This works to every phone, no need to root or unlock bootloader!!
Just follow the following steps:
1) Open Dialer app
2) Type the hidden menu code. For example, h815 international model: *#546368#*815#
for other models and more info go there: https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comments/3yn1kw/self_test_hidden_menu_of_marshmallow/
3) You will see the following 4 options: Device Test, ELT Test, SVC Menu, Field Test
You select SVC Menu
4) Then you select Log Service
5) You will see that the Kernel log will be enabled and all the other options disabled. On my stock LG G3, i checked the same options and all was disabled from the day i have it.
So disable kernel log and check the others too! Everything has to be DISABLED
6) Exit the hidden menus and reboot your phone. After that if you check your stats with an app like GSAM you'll see that ''logd'' process is going down to 0%! (Check the picture below for proof!)
If this helped you, press the Thanks! button :good:
just a heads up for those who are voting , you should go through a few battery cycles before noticing if the battery life has improved or not , voting few minutes or hours after applying the fix is not accurate
AT&T Android V6.0
If you're on Marshmallow using an AT&T LG4, it appears that you can also kill "logd" by using the settings menu. Go to settings > general > about phone and uncheck Activity logs. That seems to have disabled the "logd" functionality on my G4. When I opened the Service Menu using the code *#546368#*810# as posted in #1, all the log activities were disabled.
My battery life has improved somewhat, but it still isn't great. At least now "logd" isn't at the top of the list for battery usage!!
My phone is totally stock, with developer option enabled.
Hope this helps.

I made this change about 10 days ago. I've gone through 7 charging cycles since then, so I think the general battery life trend is going to be representative going forward. At first I noticed a significant change. I could get through a day with about 1/2 - 1/3 battery left. Much better than before where I'd be a 10% by 7:00pm. Now, I see about 1-2% battery drain per hour. The phone never seems to go into deep sleep, even at night when I leave it on, based on battery stats.
My usage profile is about average. I use the phone for business, so lots of email, SMS and Skype. Bluetooth is on all the time for my smartwatch as is WiFi.
IMHO, I don't believe the Marshmallow (V6.0) battery life on is nearly as good as it was on Lollipop on this phone. Hoping it gets better with another update....

I've contacted Lg about it. Took 10 days for a reply and it seems I have to go through a tedious process. I was asked to try safe mode despite explaining it's not a specific app. I did it anyway and of course battery life was better because I had hardly any apps running but it was only about 10%. If I find out anything useful from LG I'll let you know but it looks like they're either unaware or don't care.
Hi, does anyone know what this wakelock is and how can i stop it? As you can see the app does not see it as a big problem because of 16s time bit number of wakeups is worrying - more than 4000..
You hardly find anything about that on the internet

Probably not.
They are most of the time not responsible for the Wakelocks but the first thing that's happening After awakening.
Also EVERYONE has them! No kidding!
You can have a factory Reset phone without Google account and you won't get rid of them

Is it safe to block them in amplify? Or should I leave then untouched?
Power Nap [Xposed Module] also blocks them. But it doesn't matter. Because they do not wake the phone, they happen when the phone gets awaken by something else.
Check this out (With Power Nap enabled and What's app excluded)
As you can see, almost no Userspace Wakelocks:
As always Google Services is the only thing you simply cannot shut up, no matter what
But yeah, the Problem is on the Kernel Level....
You see a Normal Wake due to an UserSpace Wakelock:
And one that's happening due to Kernel:
So as long as you have these Kernel wakes, the BatteryServiceUpdateStats_3 will activate at the same time. Batterylife itself is not really affected.

I started getting the BatteryServiceUpdateStats_3 wakelock a few days ago, tried different kernels and factory reset and no joy getting rid of it. It is affecting my battery life big time.
My phone stays awake and is draining at 7% per hour with the screen off. Lucky to be getting 7 hours of use out of it in a day with light usage...
So basically you are saying that an app is responsible for this?
I have this SAME EXACT wakelock and problem. I have researched it endlessly with 0 luck at all. This has been an issue regardless of running marshmallow or N, a different kernel, a different ROM, etc. This wakelock on top of the 10's horrible WiFi makes my battery life absolutely terrible. If I can't fix this within 2 months (when I reach a year paid off on my payment plan) I am selling this phone and upgrading because the battery life it so intolerable. If someone could shed any light on this wakelock that would be awesome.
I have the same problem, I couldn't fine solution. Apparently is a problem only for sense rom..

My battery life had been great before this and now it's terrible - Have any of you guys tried a RUU?

I have this SAME EXACT wakelock and problem. I have researched it endlessly with 0 luck at all. This has been an issue regardless of running marshmallow or N, a different kernel, a different ROM, etc. This wakelock on top of the 10's horrible WiFi makes my battery life absolutely terrible. Keep your WiFi turned off on your 10 and watch how much you standby drain improves lol...It's a faulty WiFi setup in the 10. I don't think it's software related either. I heard it's the physical placement of the WiFi antennae from @LeeDroid

Ever since I updated to 8.1.0 with December security patch, I've noticed my battery draining faster than normal. I was getting 4-5 hours of SOT with around 45-50% battery left. This was after being off the charger for 12-16 hours. Now I'm getting about half the SOT at similar numbers. Anyone have any ideas?

Excuse my stating the obvious, but you need to find what process or app is using the battery. You should be able to get a rough idea just using the new features under Settings>>Battery. It will identify which apps are using the most juice. Run the phone in Safe Mode to see if your battery life goes back to normal. It could also be a service like Google Play Service which sometimes wigs out and starts chewing battery. Are you rooted? If you need more detailed information there are battery drain apps available to help isolate the problem (BBS and GSam). These apps require root to give the best results.

Not rooted and currently locked. I've downloaded GSAM and have adb permissions and it simply says things like Chrome, RCS Phone and Play services. If you see from the photos below you can see what I'm talking about. Chrome currently isn't that bad, but yesterday and the past couple days it's been like 9% or more of the battery.

Two things: I've never seen phone or kernel use that much battery. On one page phone usage is 33 seconds, yet it used 9% ? I think RCS is running the background all the time. See if you can toggle it to not run in the background under Settings>>Apps>. High kernel I'm guessing is a kernel wakelock or multiple. You've probably loaded app(s) that are creating the problem, but you need to find out which one is causing the wakelocks. There is a wakelock detector "lite" app that doesn't need root but I don't know how well it works. I know the root version works well. Lastly, on the first screenshot with the battery, scroll to the bottom of the page and see which apps are listed there. I'd be willing to bet if you ran the phone in Safe Mode, your battery drain would disappear, meaning your user apps are causing it.

Well in safe mode my drain is gone so I'm not sure which app is doing it, but to directly answer your question about the RCS it is an overall app meaning it is related to several Google play services. I'll upload a photo of it. I have to reboot into normal mode.
Edit: I'm wrong about that it was the play services.. I'll have to start uninstalling the apps to determine which one is draining the battery I guess.

RCS can be a real battery hog, but I don't know why. I don't have RCS on AT&T. Do you use Messages as your primary SMS? Open Settings>>Advanced and see if you can toggle off "Enhanced Features". Open properties and check if it is using battery optimization. If it is not, set Messages to battery optimization. You can always turn these back on later if the battery drain remains.
My battery life has been restored to pretty much the same as it was with 8.0. I also noticed poor battery life after installing the 8.1 update, even though they changed the way battery life is estimated with this update (supposedly). Something just felt off, but now everything feels great! I am fairly certain what changed is installing the Greenify Magisk module and/or the Google play services doze module (this enables battery optimization on the Google play services app). Not sure which one really made the difference because I installed them at the same time. However, there is definitely a major difference!!

In my experience that's really good.
Before 8.1 I noticed about 11% per hour during screen on use and about 0.33% per hour while on stand by in my pocket or a little bit better if it's just sitting on my night stand not moving while I'm sleeping (I think doze is more extreme in that situation) which seems to match what you are getting. Based on that screen shot I think that's like 8 hours screen on time over like 35 hours for a full charge. I've done a little bit better but not much. That's excellent battery life.
Since 8.1 it has dropped. Best now is maybe 7 to MAYBE 7.5 hours over maybe 26-28 hours. In my experience battery life always drops after an update but this case is far from the worst. I remember when my Nexus 5 updated from KitKat to Lollipop. The battery drop was awful and to make matters worse the battery life of the Nexus 5 was pretty bad to begin with.

So in my last reply I thought I was wrong about RCS Phone app being a conglomerate of several apps in the phone. For some reason I couldn't find the information I needed at that time. I wiped my phone and started over after posting this thread. I was trying to isolate the misbehaving app. I thought it might have been greenify actually, but no the drain has returned to a lesser extent though. Here's some photos of this RCS app from GSAM.

I'm not sure what is causing the drain at this point. I've installed Better Battery Stats to locate the wakelocks so I can ignore them through ADB.

Have you tried disabling RCS ? (Post #6). BBS is good for idle drain, active drain not so much. It's best run overnight without touching the phone for 8 hours or so. Pick the phone up in the morning and create/save a log file as quickly as possible. Post the log to the BBS thread if you need help deciphering.

I cannot disable it since it is comprised of multiple apps. You can see it in the pics on my last post.
