Let's Talk About the Joying JY-UL135 - MTCD Android Head Units General

So, this is one part commentary/review(ish), one part questions. Let's talk about this dude. So, I had a Pioneer DVD unit in my 2003 F-150 that I was really unhappy with (for several reasons I won't bother explaining). Being a bit of a tech geek, I really wanted something better, that wouldn't require an extra add on unit for navigation, and would give me a little flexibility wherever I wanted it. I was really surprised that there wasn't a better selection of head units that run Android on the market, but being such, I found Joying pretty fast. I read a bunch on here, and decided it was worth throwing the dice and a few hours at. FWIW, I ordered off Amazon, and got the JY-UL135 unit (Android 5.1.1, 7" screen, 1024x600, 16GB, 1.6GHz quad core). It seems Joying has a couple slightly different units with basically the same specs for sale. I have no idea what distinguishes them besides a slightly different bezel setup. I *think* this is the newer one. Maybe. Who knows.
Thoughts and Comments
Trust the reviews. This unit is a tiny bit bigger than it should be. I don't know why. So be it. So was my Pioneer though, but this is about another 1/8" wider, so I'll need to barely widen my already modified mounting hole.
Soldering up the wiring harness was no trouble. Uncommonly used wires were neatly capped too.
The instructions, labels, and some of the in-system notifications are in pretty rough translated English. Not a big deal, but just be aware.
If you want to do a custom boot logo, for some reason it's hidden behind the Factory Settings, with the code 126 to access it.
Unit feels plenty fast and responsive, and the build quality is acceptable at the price.
Wifi connected right up.
I did have trouble connecting to my Bluetooth OBD2 reader, which seems to be a common complaint. I'm ordering a $10 one that matches the Elm327 unit Joying offers for $20. We'll see if it works.
I prefer OBD Fusion over Torque, personally. Once the above is resolved, I'm interested to see how it compares on the unit.
Included GPS antenna has plenty of length, and seems to get a signal without issue.
I grounded the brake sensor wire right to the chassis ground line to bypass it, need to confirm that works.
Was able to pretty closely match the backlight color to the rest of my dash.
Going to use an old Micro SD card to try storing offline Google Maps data for those cellular black hole areas I travel to.
Also planning to get a dashcam to try out the DVR functionality. You never know when that could be $35 well spent.
Audio seems okay. Not great, but acceptable for my use. I do have one speaker not working that I need to diagnose. And I don't currently have an amp/sub, but do think I'll add a small one down the road.
Overall, I'm not in love with the launcher installed on it.
I still need to test phone mirroring, connecting via tethering to my phone's hotspot for nav data, install my backup camera, modify my external mic connector to be compatible with the input,
Questions for the Hive Mind
Does anyone know if these newer units benefit from the audio hack/mod discussed elsewhere?
Rooting. Do it, or no? If so, what's your preferred process?
What's your opinion on different launchers?
The Factory Settings menu appears to have quite a bit of stuff in it. Anything besides the boot logo really worth paying attention to?

i recently got the Jeep specific one from Amazon, Joying 5.1, should be the same stuff.
Pretty happy so far, I downloaded my city in Google Maps, but I didn't see an option to save it to a micro sd card. I didn't have to solder anything since I got vehicle specific, all plug and play. Also I used an adapter to use the Jeeps existing GPS. Fit and finish seems pretty top notch on mine, at least for the physical buttons.
I was considering rooting to try to do Apps2SD or something, I just want my Google Play Music playlists downloaded. I can do it, but it fills up the memory, and I dont have the option to put it on the micro sd card.
I was also confused by the Factory Settings options. There was an IPOD part listed as No. I changed it to YES and it gave me an ipod app, but it just immediately crashed, so I turned it back off.

I didn't even actually realize they made brand specific models when I ordered mine, though I think outside of the wiring harness, that maybe doesn't matter. My truck is a 2003 too, so there really isn't anything in the way of fancy electronics in it to deal with, which probably helps.
I just got my backup cam mounted on my license plate, going out after work to wire it up hopefully. It's hot as hell here right now though, so we'll see how much I want to stay out there and do it with the sun still shining though.

IPOD I believe is quoted to not be working with that model.. How is the audio with the Jeep specific one? It looks just like the current 4.4 version and I was not sure if any hardware has changed. I was also looking at the 7in universal one that is mentioned by OP but wanted to know if it is better than the jeep specific one as far as audio hardware and sound. I know the screen size is smaller but was not sure if there is anything else. Any complaints so far on the 5.5 version of the Jeep one??

I dont know anything about the 4.4 version. All i have is the 5.1 version, but i find that many complaints I read about these things are not evident in my version, so maybe stuff did change. For example people say you have to buy some antenna adapter, which I did not need, it had one in the box. FM radio sounds fine, although I dont listen to it. I just tried it so see what's up.
I have a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, I had the 430N with the base audio. I had replaced the factory speakers with the Mopar Kicker upgrades. Sound is 100% better with the Joying.
I have a lot of details and pics here:

I'm thinking about buying this head unit for my car, and I was wondering if anyone can give an input after a few months of usage.
What I'm worried about is the 1gb RAM , when there are new versions with 2GB of RAM
Do you think the 1GB is a deal breaker?
Thanks!

If you dont mind things going slow, otherwise get the 2gb. Also, if you plan to use a dashcam and rexord, then def get a 2gb. I just ordered the UL135N2 this morning. Should get to my place in Wisconsin just after new years.

I upgraded the 1GB RAM unit I posted about earlier in this thread with a 2GB unit, it is night and day, no comparison, 2GB all the way

So, did you buy one 2gb ram model?
or replace with 1gb ram model??
I'm using 1gb ram model and I want to upgrade to 2gb ram.

Your F150 is a non-standard DIN fitting. It is about 2 mm too short (vertical face) for a standard 2-DIN head unit. No matter what unit you bought it will "appear" incorrect but it's really just Ford brilliantly coming up with their own size to be special.

I had a Jeep specific unit from Joying that was a MTCD, Android 5.1, and only 1GB of RAM. I loved it at the time.
I got a new unit. 8inch double din, Intel, and 2GB of RAM
I love the bigger screen, and the performance is no comparison

The Chinese units are not quite Double Din either. I know on the Jeep forums, every time someone puts in an American double din, people have to file things down to fit.
But when I put the Joying Double Din, it fit just fine, no filing required

This is what you're looking for;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_7736
To summarize, USA double DIN = 7" x 4" (177.8mm x 101.6mm)
Metric double DIN = 180mm x 100mm (7.09" x 3.93").
In other words, the Metric double DIN is nearly 1/10th of an inch wider than a USA double DIN.
The Chinese head units are made to 178mm x 100mm for the UL135[N[2]] or 178mm x 102mm for the UL128[N[2]]. Don't ask me why they went for 102mm on the 128's. But essentially, the USA DDIN is just a little bit TOO NARROW for these head units, which seem to be targeting METRIC dimensions. Well, except for the 128's height, which is a bit closer to USA spec, but still marginally over.

Hello the team XDA,
I have mounted a joying UL-135 in a my car with a special harness.
I have a problem with the sleep mode. Head unit never shut down completely.
When a turn off the keycar, head unit shut down...then after few minutes, touch lights are shuting down too.
Then it's impossible to turn on the head unit.
After a night of parking, when i turn on the car, head unit start quickly to the previous postition without booting from Logo.
Do you have a solution ? i have tried to enter in the developer menu but it needs a password and i dont have it ?

Is it a UL135? Or is it a UL135N or UL135N2? The latter two will deep sleep when the ignition is turned off, allowing them to start up *instantly* when the power is resumed. Your description of device behavior is consistent with N[2] units. In fact, I'm not even sure it is possible for a UL135 to do what you describe, since if it wasn't shutting down, the screen would remain on.

sorry it's the JY-UL135N

Anyone been able to root the UL135? I don't have the factory settings menu.. So I have no idea what to do..

Eonon or Pumpkin?

I'm trying to decide between two identical systems with minor differences;
Eonon will include a slim IR remote (which I would consider useless, except that the reason I need a new head unit is my old one has a bad screen and a remote would have made it usable)
Pumpkin does not have a remote (but still has the IR port) but has a 1024*600 screen as opposed to Eonon's 800*400.
Thoughts on which to choose?
Anyone have a remote they aren't using they want to sell to make the decision easier?
I recently bought an Eonon GA2114 to replace my old AN21U. First impressions:
-good mechanical build
-internal microphone is much better than AN 21U's
-SWC work way better
-very responsive customer support
-different build from what I have seen on this forum. Wanted to do the BT mic mod but gave up - too much disassembling involved
-slightly wider than standard 2DIN, needs fiddling with the dash frame
Had a weird issue with BT: with any KLD ROM (including Eonon official) I was unable to use BT for phone calls. It does work, however, with Joying ROMs
Hope this helps

That's the one I'm looking at. Have you used the remote that comes with the unit and, if so, is it even useful?
I'm a bit surprised that this hasn't turned into a thread of people arguing that 1024*600 is so much better and others saying that there's no practical difference between that and 800*400.
Would you like 6 donuts, or half a dozen?

Haven't touched the remote, not a fan. Don't really see the utility of a remote for the driver, the screen is very responsive and so are the SWC buttons, finally. On my previous unit SWC controls were erratic ( I believe it happened because of the low priority of the control process). A remote would probably become useful if I had multiple displays in the car and the passengers in the back seat would want to change the movie or similar.
As for the screen, I am really happy with it. I actually ended up with this resolution by mistake, I was also looking for a 1024*600 but got attracted by the bigger screen of this unit and somehow missed the fact that it is 800*480. Don't regret that, 7 inch is really a significant improvement over 6.2.
I have a GA2114 too I'm pretty happy with mine, only issue I have with it is that the Bluetooth calling can sometimes be quite distorted and people can't hear me which I know is a problem with most units, I just havent got round to taking mine apart to modify. Mine seems to be fine sometimes though and people say they can hear me fine.
I had a WinCE Eonon unit before my GA2114 and the reason I went for another Eonon unit was because they were so reliable, had it for about 2 years and didn't have one issue with it.
EDIT: One small issue I forgot to mention was my microSD card slot in the front seems to be quite dodgy, the card doesn't click in properly. I can get it to sit in though by pushing it in then putting the cover back over it to hold it in place.

I have bought Pumpkin head unit with ASIN B016I7C7TK on Amazon.co.uk , which includes an external wireless SWC control and it is very convenient.
It has 7-inch 1024*600 screen and Android 4.4 Quad Core 1.6GHz system.
Really impressed so far with this, for the price its definitely worth it! Had no issues so far and customer service has been very good.

I just installed my ga2114 and love it but also do not have Bluetooth audio working for calls. It works great for regular audio. What rom should I be running to fix it?
Also I notice a slight audio hiss. Did you experience that on your unit? It's not enough to drive me crazy but it's definitely there once the radio boots up. Aside from that, I love it so far.
glad to see some praise for these units, I had my eye on one from eonon

Joying 2GB RAM 8 inch - installed with pics

Hey guys,
Not sure if i'm the first on this forum to receive my joying 8inch head unit but i got it last friday and installed it the same day. This thing is awesome.
I've never had an android head unit but i've been hovering around these forums for about 2 months waiting for a 2gb unit to come out. I got on the new joying unit right when it came out and purchased it on amazon right away. Their customer service was awesome, they made sure i had the tools needed to install it before they shipped it out (which i did). and it still only took 4 days to get to me (central USA).
Coming from a $600 pioneer head unit i could not be happier. This is awesome. If you guys would like some more pics, or information feel free to post here or email me at [email protected]. Also i am the only one to have a review on amazon so far
Won't let me put images cause i'm still new to posting.. so here is the URL broken up

Installed steering wheel controls. It was not to bad, would of only taken a few minutes if i would of known what to do. I own a Subaru WRX 2010. I had to wire Key 2 to Pin #4 and Pin #14 to ground.
You will have a car crash soon...
When you keep driving and taking/posting fotos (of your android radio) and fidling arround.
But thanks for the first impression. Looks like they changed the equalizer software from the fake 9 to a honest 3-Band EQ.
Anything about the Audio Quality?
Greetings

Also I did not make the post while driving.
Will you be rooting the device anytime soon? Any bluetooth issues with regards to connecting multiple devices/call quality? any problems with the mic?

Not sure if i need to root it as everything i want i think i can get without. i'm open to hearing arguements about why i should root it though.
I have not tested out multiple devices on the bluetooth, i can do that later today. I have not tested the Mic as i do not make phone calls often. The microphone it came with seems to be almost identical to the one that came with my pioneer, just like a $6 mic you can get on amazon.

please can you post a pitcure about your system information with the MCU version and show me the url about your purchase?
Interested in the mic quality also. Will be installing mine in a F150 with the factory sync system and hoping the mic quality is on par.
Question about the subwoofer settings on these units, are there any you can adjust like low-pass filter and/or cutoff frequencies and stuff?

I just installed an 8" in my Prius Plug-in, I couldn't get the steering wheel control and backup camera to work after 2 days of messing with it. So I took it to Best Buy to get that working. Tech support at Joying sucks and it takes 24 hours to get a reply from them.
Bluetooth connects to the phone, but music doesn't play, fm reception sucks, and it won't read my 128gig sdcard. I haven't had a chance to really get into it yet, but I will when I get it back from Best Buy and I'll repost then with a full report.

The FM reception is fine in my car, that is weird that it is not going well for you, maybe you could give the antenna more power. To get the 128gb sd card to work i had to put it in my phone first, my phone formatted it correctly for android, then i threw it into my radio. If you'd like some help with other things i am more than happy if you email me.
Also their customer support has been good to me so far, yes it takes a while for them to reply because their business hours are when we are sleeping. lol
I'm not crazy about the 8"+ units because they look like a tablet duct taped to the dashboard. The DDIN 7" all-glass units are supposed to be available soon. It would be nice if they'd increase the screen size on the DDIN units, there is enough bezel to increase to at LEAST 7.5, maybe even 8". You certainly don't need the row of capacitive buttons on Android, since they're just duplicated from on-screen buttons anyway!

Did you end up testing the multiple bt connection ? Like with a phone and an obd2?
Is the microphone 'visible' to Android on these? Ie, can you use voice commands ('Ok google'), etc?
I can't believe I'm considering going back down this road, but my Newsmy Android box bit the dust (head unit part is OK), and I don't have the time or energy to really push my DIY project.

Quickest thing to do would probably bring up some app (sound recorder?) that can use the MIC and see if it works. Google Maps, Google Search, etc.
I'm not familiar with the MTC series, but almost all of the android head units utilize an 'MCU' (in this case made my microntek) to control the analog audio sources, and mixes in the digital (Android) audio. That analog audio is typically not 'visible' to android (ie, you cannot record FM radio as the Android board only controls the operation of the radio through the MCU. It doesn't actually run that audio through an ADC back to Android.).
In most of the devices I've seen, the MIC port is wired to the Bluetooth HFP module, which is not actually part of the Android board. It's one of those 'analog sources' that the Android box can control through MCU commands, but the underlying I/O is invisible to the system.
How sturdy is it? I have a double din opening that is a little to small and would need to be trimmed to fit. I was thinking since the single din would be completely covered by the larger screen, I wouldn't need to modify the opening. Does it move when using it? I won't be able to stand it if it moves around or makes any rattle sounds. Thanks in advance for your input.

Seems sturdy. the screen mounts on 4 points to the single din, they are fully adjustable. It does not move at all when i touch it.
Where did you order your unit from? Amazon or directly from Joying? I would rather order through amazon for the better customer service but if they aren't shipping until the end of nov/beginning of dec I would order through Joying to receive it sooner.

Almost ready to buy, few final questions. Octocore PX5, 4GB, Oreo

A quick bit of background, I have recently sold my car that had a factory fit wince media centre fitted, and although locked down I miss the navigation and ease of use in my new car. The new car is actually a 10 year old Mazda MX5 NC (MK3) and currently has the stock radio which I'm thinking of upgrading.
I have figured I had 2 choices, either an all singing android unit, or a regular manufactures unit which supports Apple AirPlay. I figured that would still give me the basics of what I need, and probably with no potential for things to go wrong Anyway I like a challenge and the though of having more possible functionality I think is winning the argument for getting an android unit, but I have a few final questions from people in the know!
I have bene looking at a couple of units that look pretty similar spec wise (cornet me if I'm wrong) :-
Pumpkin AE0273B, XTRONS TE706PL. I was posting links to them but I'm not allowed yet So you will have to google for the exact details if needed.
So onto the questions :
1. I see a lot of the connectivity is via USB, and If I were to add several of the extras (E.g DAB+, 3/4G, DashCam, Phone) I would ned more USB ports than supplied (The XTRONS has 3, but the Pumpkin only 2). Can I just use a USB hub to get more ports like on a computer? If yes I'm assuming a powered one would be better as those accessories all need power.
2. I currently have a simple dash cam that just records video and audio in a loop onto an SD card all the time the ignition is on. Each file is about 2 mins long and I get about 4 hours recording before it starts to overwrite older files. This works great as I can forget about it and in 3 years, have never had to even look at the footage, and hopefully never will. But it gives peace of mind. I see you can get a USB one that I'm sure will have much better user interface if I want to play back footage. My existing camera has a phono out which I could connect to an AUX input to use the screen, but would still have the fiddly buttons to press on the camera behind my mirror.
Does the DVR app on the unit with the USB camera just crack on and record stuff in a similar I can forget about it way, and its just all there if I need it in the future. Or do I need to do something every time I turn the ignition on? Where does it record the footage, do I need to provide an additional SD card?
3. I see there are often 2 SD card slots, one marked for maps, the other presumably for music. Is there actually any difference, or are these just 2 mount points in the system that get used for anything? This question just came to me when thinking about the camera above. It wasn't actually on my list!
4. I'm worried that with a convertible car I'm not going to be able to see the screen due to the huge amount of ambient or even direct sun light. I have heard that there are anti-glare filters which could help a bit, but is this going to be a problem for me when it comes to navigating etc? Are the screens on the standard manufacture units (e.g. Pioneer etc) any better. In other words would I be better off sacrificing the cool stuff and getting a straight CarPlay unit that would be bright enough to see?
5. Lots os talk about rooting the device. What are the actual advantages of doing this? Are there some killer apps that make this a worth while exercise?
I appreciate its a long post and there are lots of questions, so a big thank you in advance for any of the questions you might be able to answer.
Regards
Ben
EDIT: forgot to mention — almost all units are identical to one another. They all have almost identical MTCD/MTCE MCU boards with the same audio/radio/wifi/Bluetooth chips (there are exceptions). And the main SoC is gonna be a PX5 with 4 GB of ram. So outside of that you want build quality (buttons, screen, plastic) and if it’s made to fit your car already.
First off, check out Joying units which have Carplay built in as well (and they have Octa core 4gb android 8.0 double din universal ones).
Next, yes you’d be able to use a USB hub and yes a powered one is best. Get one that works off of 12v and wire it in for a clean solution (so you always have a powered hub in your glove box for instance)
There are dash cams that the head unit manufacturers will sell you that you can leave plugged into your unit and they will auto record as you say. You basically don’t have to touch them, and just open the necessary app if you wanna change settings, or lock/save a file.
The 2 SD card slots are identical but one of them is meant to be always-in for GPS maps (for the Navi that the seller pre-loads sometimes). Also for firmware updates the GPS slot is the only one it boots from.
Glare depends heavily on the angle that your dash positions the screen at, so it’s hard to say. But yeah sometimes the sun hits it just right and there’s pretty much nothing you can do. Happens on oem units too.
Rooting isn’t super necessary but depending on how much you want to tinker it adds nice features like apps staying open after sleep, and the ability to customize the way everything looks. That said, there’s a lot in the way of customization that’s already available. Check malaysk’s custom ROM though. It’s pretty stable and the inclusion of viper4android alone is worth the hassle (in my opinion)
Hope this helps!
So it looks to me like there are 3 generic systems that have been badged up, one with a knob at the top, one with a knob at the bottom, and one without a knob.
The ones with the knobs seem to have the slightly newer TDA7851 amp chip, and the one with out uses the older TDA7850, which is a shame as I prefer the look of just buttons.
The Xtrons unit has a 3rd USB, which saves having to get a USB hub.
The Joying has the benefit of the built in ZLink, but as its software it does mean you loose that benefit if you use a different rom.
And there are various options on the back of the units, some have small wifi antenna built in, some have connectors for an external one.
It all make for lots of extra decisions!!
After getting Whitehouse support from Pumpkin, I would only buy Dasaita now. I just ordered a Dasaita PX5 4GB Oreo to replace my Pumpkin PX3 2GB.

Honda HR-V Dasaita HA5248-V480-8 Android Head Unit impressions

I was not sure where to post this because I kindof hijacked the Honda Connect Android thread with alternative solutions so I decided to create a new thread here as it seems more apropriate. I hope this will help others decide on an aftermarket unit that suit their needs.
The unit I bought and pictures with comments.

I forgot to mention, there are no issues with porlarized sunglasses (vision impaired like I have, or regular). Usually LCD screens are polarized so if you have polarized glasses you only see the full display colors and brightness at a fixed angle 0 or 90 degrees (head straight or tilted to one side). This unit does not suffer from this issue like older phones did. (after posting I noticed I did mention this in my previous note )
28.10.2018
I'm really happy with the unit:
- response time is as fast as you expect it to be (as in touch - do stuff vs. click - you got it, hold on it's comming, almost there, just keep spinning windows/macos stuff)
- display is bright/direct sunlight, polarized sunglasses not an issue
- you can disable most of the inputs that source (steerwheel button) cycles through, except of A/V in (which I think is the LaneWatch camera)
- switching between radio, music, Waze and other apps is instant
- Waze only crashed once during a 450km ride, in the same area it crashes on my phone as well ... really Google ?
In the end I guess it's all about personal prefference about the preinstalled software which you can replace with apps from play store (or other sources) to your liking, so I'm not gonna comment on that as most of the defaults are fine for me it's fine. There are however a vew caveats to consider:
- Since I don't use my google account and created a new one for the unit I don't have access to my contacts. Altho the unit syncs your contacts via bluetooth to the phone app, 'OK Google' cannot use that.
- The default phone app does not have any favourites options, so your best bet is to use the last recent calls. But that list is not synced with your phone, it's only the list from when your phone was connected with the car (tried MTCDTelephonyBridge, did not work).
- There are some volume issues which I could not figure out (yet ). Navigation volume is set on MIXIN and has a range from -10 to + 10. At first I had it on -5, it was very low, then I moved to +7, fine for a while until it became too loud, lowerd to +5 and it was very low, bumped it again to +7 and it was the same low. I wish they would do the 'smart' thing like the original HU and just output navigation to front left speaker (that's the only clever thing I noticed in the decade old default Honda unit)
- Only one screw can be used to fix the unit, the original ones don't fit as they have huge integrated washers. You don't really need to fix it as it won't go anywhere but still, worth mentioning. Also I wanted to insulate all the cables with the same kind of foam that you find around air conditioning pipes, so that the cables don't touch the back plate of the unit. After taking the dashboard off again, I realized there is a ton of space there so the cables will not touch the back of the unit holding the radiator, which anyway is just for the TDA amp, so there was no reason to. If you go for a 2din unit, extra space will be smaller but still plenty of room on the bottom part.

A few notes of my initial experience after installing the new unit:
1. First and most important for me, the 2 USB ports of the car have different connectors (mindblown). They look the same, but one of them has a different gap (or slit, not sure of the exact word) in one of the corners as you can see in this picture. The adapter provided only fits the gray connector. I'm not sure if the 2nd adapter that I ordered will fit the green one or not (maybe with some tunning it will fit). Now, it's not that important for everyone as you can still very easy pull the 2 other USB ports in the glove compartment (which I did), but now I have 2 unused slots: USB and HDMI.
2. For OCD types, the unit I got has a 9" screen (instead of 8" as described) so the frame that holds the part of the dashboard that you need to remove in order to install the HU stands on top of the screen covering the right part of the screen bezel and the 2nd mic instead of being around the screen (I hope that makes sense). The front pannel itself (bezels included) is a bit larger than the hole in the dashboard. This results in the actual screen being buried about 1cm below the dashboard line (about 5mm more than the original one). This interfeers a bit with the access to the 'hardware' buttons on the left side, but as a driver you don't need them as you can do all that from the steering wheel controlls. One side benefit could be that there is less sunlight hitting the screen. I will update with daytime pictures.
3. There are only 2 screws that can fix the new unit, but the original ones don't fit because of the embeded washers (which can not be removed from the screws ... why ????). The unit will not go anyware thanks to the fitting holes and the dashboard being linked with frame I mentioned before. I will still go look for some replacement screws, just in case.
4. Time for the good part. The difference between the original unit and this one ... day and night. Everithing is so fast and works as it's supposed to. Even the cold boot seems faster (20s or so) than the hot start of the original unit. I still have to test the ergonomics while driving and the long term stability of the whole system, but the first impressions are very positive. You would still have to configure a few things here and there to match you preferences or missing features (like proportion between navigation and music and sound level for different sources - like music and bluetooth, missing lane watch camera - which defaults to on and when you signal right unit will show a warning because of missing camera signal, direction lines when using the reverse camera - which are off by default etc.). There are a ton of options to configure. Plus you get some extra stuff like status of open doors, status of parking sensors, AC feedback (it also has an app for control but does not seem to do anything, I will dig deeper at some point but I don't find it that usefull, still cool tho), automatic door locking when you pass a set speed limit (I have not tested this yet), and probably some others which I am eager to discover.
I will update this post to share my experience with the new unit.

Could you be more specific ? There is a link to the unit I bought and pictures in the first post. I asked the seller about compatibility and other stuff before purchasing and he assured me that all is ok. I'm not saing I'm not happy with the unit, the small differences don't bother me, but others might be bugged by those details. Overall I'm just sharing my experience while highlighting differences between expectations (aka product description) and reality
@ kind3r: bought one for my CRV also.. got the same issue with those 3 connections I think its the 2 usb & 1 hdmi connection in the console box of our car. I'm currently looking for a solution for the AC control, and IMID display setting for the steering wheel. I haven't really tinkered with the setting so maybe its just setting or connection issue. Could you pls. update me if you discover the AC thing or other features that you have unlock with your unit.

At the Dasaita Official Store they sell it as a 9" unit.
At the MTKNAVI Store they sell the "same" units.
Main advantage of MTKNAVI store: they ship from EU/Germany. Means no trouble about custom and taxes.
Thanks a lot for creating this thread. I am looking forward to hearing and seeing more from your Dasaita/HR-V experience.

I think it's just so that they only fit one way so service people don't reverse them. Both did the same charging and connection, mirrorlink etc. so I can't really tell if there is actually a difference between them.
The only way I see a connection with the IMID display (mine is next to the speedometer) is via the canbus. I think that traffic is encrypted tho because I saw no mention about it anywhere so far. I'm not even sure if you can set the clock. I will do some more research on the subject.
My unit has an AC app, but it does not control anything. I will dig into that as well, tho I don't find it useful.

Yes, all wheel buttons work but some with different functions. Hangup button also works as back, source switches between a lot of (some useless for me) apps like the ones for AV inputs but the navigation app is not included (I wish you could set a list of apps to cycle through), the task switcher that used to switch between nav, audio and phone now is the home button, the shortcut button acts as the old android menu button and the voice command does mute. There is no long press 2nd function except for left and right in radio app. I guess installing MTCDTools could improve the situation but I'm ok with the standard config.

I use a phone that sits in the truck for internet via WiFi, no issues so far. For bluetooth/handsfree I use an iPhone, sound quaility is very good both ways, way better than the stock one. Time will tell.
I'm not sure what you mean by internal speaker. It uses the car sound system and speakers and I also connected the external mic that came with the unit and placed it close to the ignition button.

Yeah, the taxes thing was a big advantage for me as they usually ship with DHL so you have to pay custom tax and also DHL tax for handling custom tax for you. My unit was shipped from UK, still EU for the next 6 month or so . Also I initially wrote to Dasaita Official Store and I still have not got a reply. MTKNAVI replied within a few hours.

Using adapter cables. So one can use the inbuilt microphone and GPS module. We just have to find the correct cables via ebay, Aliexpress...
@kind3r
did you found a connector at the Dasaita harness with 12pin (instead of 14pin at EU version of Connect unit)? That must be connector D in the attached file. Found this info in a german HRV forum. He didn't use this connector (no problems so far).

Wow, nice find. I was actually looking for that before buying a unit but could not find any schematics.
The back pannel arrangement of the connectors is not similar to my original unit see a picture of the back of mine here, but connectors seem to be more or less the same. Now, not all the connectors on the car have a corespondend on the harness and viceversa. The connector you are reffering to must be the Sirius XM receiver (? satelite radio) which as far as I know is not available in EU. Also, the USB connectors look the same in your document but in my case they are a bit different by just a small notch. What is the functionality you are interested in so I can tell you if it works for me or not.
On a side note, I have tested the unit during the last few days using the auto sleep feature, witch does not do a shutdown + cold boot so the unit starts in 1-2 seconds after you start the car. There is still a small delay after that when you get notifications about the SD card and USB stick that are being mounted so that's another 2-3 seconds until playback resumes, so it's still faster than the cold boot which takes around 25 seconds. But as android tends to be like windows on the long term, I will stick with the cold boot 'mode'.
As @HNDXCRV and others mentioned, I could not find a way to set the clock on the factory display. But as DST changed in my country, with a big bang I might add (earthquake during the night, could not sleep after that :/) to my surprise the car's clock changed as well. So I guess there is some communication from the HU, at least for time. My guess is playing in Factory Settings could result in AC being controlled from the unit as well. But I don't really see the point in doing that since dedicated hardware buttons are better than touching a display.
Some were concerned about the performance of the display in direct sunlight. Today was a sunny day, I took a trip to the seaside and I can tell you I had no issues looking at the display with my polarised sunglases on. Also the angle of the polarisation did not seem to matter as tilting my head did not do anything to the brightness level or colors, so kudos for that, it's a really nice display. At some point I was looking through the settings and realized it was only at 75% brightness.
Overall I really love this unit. Of course it's not perfect and there is some room for improvement here and there, but there are no words to describe the difference of (first and foremost for me) performance, sound quality, level of customization, size and quality of the display. Most of the small things that bother me are due to software ergonomics say like the radio app having a dedicated button for stereo lock, instead of something more useful (not that anything comes to mind right now). You have to customize a bit to your liking, I have uninstalled/disabled apps that cycle via the source button on the steering wheel, changed the volumes of navigation, radio, music, a2dp etc. to my personal preference. Also there are a ton of replacement apps for the stock ones, play store is full of choices if you have enough time to try them out, like launchers, dialers, music apps etc.
I still have to update to the latest Android version (unit came with 20180809, latest is 20181011, but with newer MCU 2.98_1) but since there is no reason to, I will hold off for the moment. I am tempted to do a full reset of the unit as there are some leftovers from the seller testing the unit like paierd phones etc. (not that it matters too much).
@kind3r
thanks a lot for your infos. Seems like this device is really worth it. I can not decide yet.
What I like to do if...
connect the original GPS (via adapter, found in ebay)
connect the original microphone (via adapter, not found yet)
Questions:
the radio has RDS fully working (channel names, radio text, traffic TP/TA) ?
is the Dasaita usable without internet connection (only radio or mp3) or does it throw error messages?
does "Ok Google" work? Or do we need the MtcDialer
Because of updates: maybe it's best to do it at the beginning.
For the GPS adaptor it will still take around 2 weeks to get to me so I can post some feedback about it.
I could not find any reference in the connectors for the integrated mic. I'm not sure if an adapter exists. At first I thought this will bother me but it tursn out it's not really that big of a deal. Sound quality is way better than with the original mic/HU combination.
RDS is working but unfortunatelly I cannot test traffic as it is not available in my country. The radio app has switches to enable disable TA and TP but since there is no broadcast for that ... they don't do anything for me.
It should not throw errors without an internet connection but for me the whole point was to use it with Waze for the realtime traffic information. There is a version of iGO preinstalled with Europe maps on an 8G SD card. I will probably buy a bigger card that can fit the iGO maps and music so I have an offline navigation as a backup just in case.
'OK Google' is working but unfortunatelly I think it uses the contacts from the google account and does not use the contacts synced via bluetooth from the paired phone. Since I created a new account for the car I don't have any contacts but I will add some just to test. MTCDialer did not work for me, it always crashes on launch.

those 10" units are known to have a space between the display and the actual touch, resulting in almost a 3D / depth-like effect of the stuff onscreen (when watched from an angle, which happens usually where the driver or passenger are looking at it, no one is looking straight perpendicular to the screen). Is this also the case with this unit?
Is it known under different names? I’d love to find a thread’s talking about software options. Anyway, I don’t really notice any kind of a 3-D effect, if you look at it from an extreme angle, it does look like there is a small gap, but I definitely don’t feel it when pressing on the glass. It’s a beautiful display, a lot nicer than I would have expected.
Bluetooth seems not working in the 20190428 update.
Tried update and clean install, neither Bluetooth worked. The rest so far so good.

yes, the display is beautiful, very good contrast and color saturation.
i've seen one installed in a car few days ago, and the first thing i noticed (was sitting in the passenger seat) was the depth effect. This effect is not present in all other units 7", 8" or 9". You could see it more in the launcher main screen (it was an Ownice), less in FM radio app or mediaplayer, navi, etc...
another thing that i didn't like was that for my car i had to cancel the airbag warning connector since the unit comes with own mask and for VW/Skoda the mask that is used for 8 or 9" units has a airbag connector. The Ownice 10.2" did not. Also an issue is the huge screen at night with white background apps which even at lowest brightness they still blow your eyes off
I may buy the dsp version soon from ali express.
I need to find out if the mcu is an MTCE first, as hal9k will be developing his rom for px6 mtce, and i wouldnt be suprised if malaysk adds it too

to clarify this, i suspect the ownice i saw had that 2.5D+nano screen, because my 10.2 dasaita has no depth issue whatsoever on its ips screen.
reg. airbag warning, it's just not visible, you need to take it out from the old cover together without unplugging it and just place it behind the screen. it won't give errors but it's not visible either...

also no issues on my IPS screen either! Great unit for what it is. Of course there are little issues here and there like all units.
I rooted mine so I could freeze apps I don't need and really clean everything up

Do you have advices to root dasaita px6 ?
Thank you
Waiting infos on root aswell
What about fastboot? Can it do 2s boot? and sleep with <1mA low power?
Has anyone looked at (somehow) adding HD Radio?
My Rav4 HU has this and I've found it to be much better at receiving a signal (where I live anyway). I'm looking at a PX6 dasaita unit on Ali (also), but they all have the 6686 radio chip, where the 6688 radio chip has HD Radio included. I wonder if the 6688 couldn't be somehow retrofitted? Yes of course there would have to be pin compatibility etc, has anyone looked at that by chance?
I'm so tempted to just buy one and say scr*w the HD Radio... but sadly it's about the only thing I use the HU for! it would be hard to give that up as I almost always have the screen off
Cheers, they sure do look nice, would love to have one. Not sure if it would suit my needs though, when all said and done.

Do you also have carplay wire/wireless chip on unit? did you see if that is able to charge your iphone with carplay on?
ALso have you driven longer than 2 hrs? with this unit ? I had PX5 and it used to reset over using it continuously for 2hr or more. and also PX5 was not charging iPhone while carplay was on.
If possible could any one update me on this?

It does charge while doing CarPlay because it’s wireless so I just plug it into my charger. Works totally fine for hours on end. I’ve got an annoying bug with VLC thinking it doesn’t have delete permissions unless I manually grant it twice, but that’s unrelated. Also a bug with my iphones voice to text requires me to type a character first before it’ll pick up mic input, but I think it’s an iPhone issue.

So far looks good then.
I do not find any description on link you got on amazon, specifying about wireless carplay, i tried contacting Iris he replied that there is option to get carplay wire/wireless on PX6. I ask him to send me link to product he is yet to reply.
Did you have to specify Dasaita to get you wireless carplay? or its just standard now?

I could be mistaken, but I think it's wireless. I hadn't asked for anything in particular, so it might be standard now.
I have dasaita - car play works on wire plus you have to have additional box/device ( can buy it in bundle with head unit). When iPhone connected through it - CarPlay works seamlessly and your phone is charging.
One more thing - you need to have application for CarPlay too.
