Hello,
I'm building an AOSP 2.3.7 for our device.
I've a question beceause I don't want to brick my device !
I've used this repository : https://github.com/hafidzduddin/android_device_samsung_codina
I built my ROM with the "kernel" zImage.
I want to test it, so I flashed only ROM but with stock kernel it freezes at SGA2 GT-I8160.
How can I be sure if the boot.img will work ? If it doesn't work, can i access again to download mode ?
Thanks you.

As long as the flashing process doesn't messes up with the bootloader, you could still have download mode available.
Just wondering though, why building a GB, when you could start from kit Kat which is way better then GB?

Beceause my brother needs a very low RAM usage and only an 2.3.7 AOSP can do it.
So if kernel doesn't work, the download should always be accessible to flash stock one ?

Well, as long as the reason is justified, i guess that's okay. Though I do recommend to check out kitkat first to see whether it's enough or not.
Anyway, answering that, yes, it should still work if you flashed it as normal.
Just be careful not to mess up with the bootloader.
I flashed it. It worked (ouf), download mode stills work.

Hello everyone last week i got pissed at my arc s because of its stockness.Stock, kernel, rom, widges, slow ui,locked bootloader, not rooted etc etc etc.The i decied to unlock my bootloader, after few hours of research i found out that the only way to unlock it is the paid method i got pissed. Then i decied to install a custom rom and heres what i did"
Since i coudnt instal nor get into cwm i found this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wdnkuQ1dNaW5zdGFsZXIiXQ..
i installed the program, rooted my phone with DoomLoards method(the one for ICS phones) and then downloaded to rom
What i did next is to download few rom and tested and here are the roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717 , I did all of the steps with wiping data/cache atc when i installed all the roms, but just choosed the other archive file for the rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565475 < which im using now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515148
Remmember that i cant get into cwm if i turn of the phone for some reason,so i run the xperia cwm program and got into it.After that just follow the steps given in the rom's topic "How to install" and thats it.
After 2 reboots my phone was running all of the listed rom which needed unlocked bootloader in order to be installed
I would love some1 else to test my method
To flash new kernal u need bootloder unlock so u cant change kernal in locked bootloader
Roms like
Cm7&9
N miui wont work
Ics base Rom may work
Well yes
im running them with stock kernel.Right now im using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565475 MuIU and it runs perfectly much better then the stock ICS i had before every with 80 100 free ram

Hi I would like to try what you have mentioned. However, I am currently still on the GB ROM. I have rooted my phone. I presume I need to flash to ICS first before trying your method.
Is there anyway I can flash a stock ICS ROM with a locked bootloader using flashtools? Stock ICS is not released for my region yet so I can't do it by the usual PC Companion way I think.
I dont think that u need to install stock ICS before using this "method".Try installing this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wdnkuQ1dNaW5zdGFsZXIiXQ and then do the steps said in the rom u want to install.I would suggest u to read very carefuly the tutorial provided by the rom's developer so u wont srew your phone like i did the 1st time aka dele cavik cache/farcroty reset etc etc.U can use the instructions from this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717 .U can put any rom u want on the sd card but the steps before that got to be the same
So basically what you did was install a Stock Based ROM without install the kernel that ROM need right? And is working?
I have ROOT and ICS Stock, i already search and i was thinking to install a Stock Based ROM without ROM custom kernel but i was afraid
So seams you try it and work right?
Yes ive tried those 3 roms and they work with the stock kernel that my arc s comes with, they detect the phone as lt18i etc etc.Mind that if your bootloader is locked you probably wont be able to get into recovery vie the normal way aka press to volume keys up and down, thats why u need to install the xperia cwm program and reboot into recovery with it.If you do something wrong and your phone freezes at the xperia logo we can fix that(flashing the stick ICS with flashtool using flashmode (holding the back key)

I think you should install ICS first because those roms require baseband 70, that comes with ICS.
I cant confirm that my methot will work with GB since i did not try it

@gogobaba can you please try your method with JJ Hybrid ROM
2) KERNELS
a) Sirkay's ICS Kernel HERE (For Overclocking )
b) Arc Knight Kernel by jimbo77 HERE (for Overclocking)
OR
b) Stock ICS Beta Kernel with CWM HERE (thanks cobrato)
OR
c) DoomLord ICS kernel with Wifi Modules .
Sorry guys but i cant try it i dont have the time to reinstall my phone again and i dont have wifi or mobile internet for my programs to be downloaded again.
I have my doubts that this rom will work because of the kernels.Check b) its says stock ICS beta kernel i dont know if this is the stock kernel of the arc or its some other kernel.Ask in the rom's topic if u can install this rom with the stock kernel. If u can they you should be albe to install it.
Mind that i cant be held responsive if something goes wrong with your phone.I can verefy only the roms from the 1st post

Its working perfectly fineon my phone did u follow all the steps?1st time i installed it without deleting the date and it didnt work
does arconium miui has hebrew?
i did a factory reset and it still didn't work, and now i lost all my apps.
first off, I'd like to give thanks to everyone on this fantastic site, it's been incredible reading tutorials on here and learning a whole lot of tricks. this here is my first thread and before I go off to look for those I owe *thanks to* I have a question am hoping I can get help with.
my HTC One (GSM) is unlocked, has a Custom Recovery (TWRP 2.3.3) and is rooted. I can install custom 4.0.. ROMS (currently running myONEv RC9.5 FX+ by ckpv5). I have however tried several times to install 4.2.2 ROMS that are on here but to no avail. with the little knowledge that I have gained after several attempts, I realise that the 4.2.2 ROMS are not flashing properly as they don't bring on a custom installer like the ROMS that are working.
can somebody please tell me why? should I update my recovery? or is there something I'm missing?
P.S, I can't seem to get a working 2.5.5 TWRP, at the developers website, their download always dies at 99.9%. ALWAYS
my phones details are as follows
PRIMOU PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.16.0000
RADIO-3831.15.00.19_M
eMMC-boot
Mar 13 2012,20:17:28
4.2.2 ROMS have some bugs so i suggest u try some other ROMS
however if u want 4.2.2 , u can always flash it and USE THE CORRECT KERNEL
BTW, 4.2 ROMS dont bring up a custom installer so its normal
if in ur recovery it says succesful then the rom is flashed properly but check if u have the appropriate kernel
You dont need to update recovery however it is best doing so; your current recovery is just fine
EDIT: use this kernel : http://www.mediafire.com/?y04jyyu2wk2fig3
well..

I want 4.2.2 so badly its eating me up . will settle for a 4.1.. if I don't get it right. it's just so darn pleasing seeing my ROM much much higher than all my friends..
thank you for that piece of knowledge about the 4.2.2 ROMS not having installers. I pretty much thought that was the problem. I have been successful in installing the zips but not once have I gotten past the HTC developer warning (recovery boot animation?). I have been using the kernels that are inside the zips, going to try to load PACMAN 4.2.2 with the kernel you just gave me.
one last question, why can't I see the thank you button? is there a number of times am supposed to post before I can use it? am on a PC so am supposed to see everything, right??

If your GSM, the latest PACman ROM has issues
u can boot it with the given kernel but u wont get any mobile data connection
if u must try a 4.2 rom then go for Paranoid Android 3
dunno abt the thank u button, didnt happened to me(PC)
maybe you're just signed off?

when i "fastboot flash boot boot.img" from fxp 225 and then reboot, my phone does not light up and so i cant enter recovery and flash the rom. i am trying to run 10.1. since then i have gotten the latest cm10 nightly from cyanogenmod.org. i am now running that successfully but would like to run 10.1 if possible. i wonder why 10.1 is not listed on the arc section of cm.org
Because FXP does not build CM10.1 for arc anymore. And why are you flashing a 4.1 kernel if you want to run CM10.1?

it would be nice if they would state that clearly then, however i have seen people on here listing that they are running cm10.1 with an arc, so what does that mean? as for flashing a 4.1 kernel i only did that once i couldnt get 10.1 to work so i went to 10, if thats what youre talking about. anyways so is what you are saying is that i cannot run 10.1 with an arc, in which case 10 is the best i can do?
when did they stop building 10.1 for the arc, can i try a lower build ie 224 or something?

Flashtool can do 2 types of work.
1) Flash stock firmware from FTF files in flashmode.
2) Flash custom kernels from IMG (and some others) files in fastboot mode.

And FXP never made CM10.1 for Arc nor Arc S.

1st - There was never official CM10.1 made for Arc, FXP never started such project.
2nd - People saying they use 10.1, mean the unofficial one, which can be found from the Development section of this forum.
Didnt he say he wanted to run CM10.1, then he flashed FXP225?

ok thanks for the info. i will just stick with running the official 10 then i guess. now one other thing i have wondered about, do i have to completely set my phone up again each and every time i install a new nightly, or is there some sort of way to just load everything again once the new nightly is installed. i understand there are backup programs out there but i was under the impression they only work at backing up a single build and wont work if you change builds.
thanks for the input people.

Dear forumers.
I usually do not ask stupid questions as that, but there I am very very confused
I just want to install some new OS to my XPERIA S (LT26i). Now I have all stock cellphone conditions with original 4.0.4 Android version.
My wish is to have phone fastest as it can be and all stable. I have read many many topics and guides there but I am still confused where to start. I need all flashtool, bootloader unlock, root, recovery, flash kernel, flash rom and do not know what to do first, second, third,... And I do not want to break up phone.
Can someone please kindly understand me and copy links of actual guides in right order? I need suggestions for 4.4 version OS-s too.
Best regards

Probably you don't know that it is not so easy to first doing that, but for noobs that forum is so hard to understand especially because of risk to damage your phone is something goes wrong.

Now you need to download a rom from the development section, then open the zip on your pc, extract the boot.img. Then copy the rom zip file on to your phone and flash the boot.img using fastboot or Flashtool. Then turn on your phone, and keep on pressing the volume up button to enter recovery. Then wipe everything except system and sdcard and then flash the rom.zip. Reboot your phone and it should be running kitkat

download another rom from the xperia s development section that says specificly lt26i or xperia s or nozomi, version 4.4.2 or cm-11.0 and copy it onto ur devices internal memory -reboot into recovery (boot button+vol up hold until blue led) and flash ur new rom thats in ur internal memory. wipe dalvik+cahce and boot to system - u should be golden now :good:
hi,
after spending a lot of time in the KitSlim thread i'm getting more and more confused.
One person says do it that way, another suggests a different approach.
i'd like to install the KitSlim Evo9 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2743177
I'm currently running a stock 4.4.4 rooted with locked bootloader and a dualrecovery on my Z1C
- boot in TWRP
- do all the wipes
- flash the Rom from SD1
- without reboot flash the gapps
- power off
- use the flashtool to flash the 108 NUTStockKernel
- reboot & done
My Questions so far:
Is this order correct?
does the Rom file need to be on the internal Storage or would the SDCard also work?
Is the NutStockKernel ok for my locked BL, or do i just need to flash a standart 108Kernel file?
(Some say the NutStockKernel is only for unlocked Bootloader, some say it's for locked BL)
Does this NutStockKernel come with a dualrecovery?
Some even suggest not to flash a Kernel because i'm allready on a 4.4.4_108 !?
thanks in advance for answers!
the more i read here the harder it seems to get ^^ but i'll try.
this is a great community!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54777670
This is the process I used, worked fine.
thanks for the reply. i'll give it a go then.
If you already have fw.108 on your phone, you don't need to flash NUTs kernel.

does that mean, that the dual recovery will still be there?
(as far as i understand the recovery is in the kernel)
or does the recovery come with the ROM? cause it says in the thread that dual recovery is built in

Recovery is built into the rom, so whatever you do don't flash nuts recovery again after kitslim or you'll end up in bootloop and have to start from scratch flashing a stock rom.
So coming from a stock rom fw.108, with root and recovery (but locked bootloader) go into recovery, wipe system wipe cache&dalvik (don't reboot) flash the Evo9 then the Full gapps, that's it.
Even if it goes horribly wrong, you still won't unlock the bootloader, and rebuilds are so easy now thanks to Easyroot
thx for the advice. i did it and it's running on my phone now \o/
runs great, and no bugs encountered yet!
still got some questions.
are there any restrictions to what software to install with KitSlim running?

I think you should head over to the KitSlim thread, but no, it's just the same as a stock rom, install what you like. Although pay attention to which modules you install with Xposed, as some of them can clash.
i need 10 posts min. to post there, thats why i asked here.
