Hi
If anyone who does need root access on their xm5 while updated to MM.
Install kingroot app @ http://kingroot.net
allow the app to be installed on your phone.
Submit request for research, as of 01 Aug '16 1039hr gmt+8
we have 111 request.
To grant the root request, we need atleast 500++ request.
Thank you for the support.
I think that if there is a possibility to root MM in our device, the XDA guys will come first. So i still with LP until that day otherwise unlock bootloader
Can't run the App App has stoped error

Just flash a pre-rooted mm zip via recovery on rooted lollipop. Only way to get root on locked Bootloader with mm it's created slightly differently to lollipop though.
Sent from my Xperia XA using XDA Labs
I sent the request.

No one has tried this guide for Z5?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/guide-rooting-unlocking-bootloader-t3354307
Someone who does not care the risk to lose their DRM keys should test it!
The point of start is 30.0.A.1.23 or 30.1.A.1.33

If you already have a TA backup from when your bootloader was locked (e.g. 30.0.x.1.23 or 30.1.x.1.33 firmware + iovySU) then there's no way to lose your keys anymore, unless you delete your backup. And about the guide, it probably works with Xperia M5 as well, however Mediatek kernels have 512 bytes of "padding" data (sort of a header) on their RAM Disk and zImage and that makes the tool from the thread you linked refuse the boot image.
TL;DR it probably works but the tool needs some modifications to work properly with Mediatek kernels. With the right skills you can also do the modding manually.

..so with iovyroot i can obtain the TA backup since M5 is supported but Rootkernel can't create modded kernel for MM with my DRM keys cause mediatek on board instead snapdragon?

As long as you didn't unlock your bootloader yet, yes. You can also use the main iovyroot as long as it's v0.4 or newer. If you already have unlocked your bootloader without taking a TA backup first, then you're screwed (these tools will still work but the backup won't have any DRM key as they already were wiped when you unlocked the bootloader).

Root Kernel just need a small update to work with Mediatek kernels (basically ignoring the extra header). If you manually trim the first 512 bytes of the zImage and RAM Disk then you have a regular kernel like any other Snapdragon-based device...
Yes i know that unlocking will wipe my keys and i don't like to play with TA partktion so if i will try in the future i want to be sure not to brick my primary phone. Anyway i don't know where and how to trim the bytes... I still with LP for now
I have some good news, I managed to root and apply the DRM fix from Root Kernel tool into our kernel and apparently it's working very well! I'm testing solely on the kernel from the dual SIM variant but I'm trying to do the same with the single SIM variant too, so, everything should be ready in a few hours. Stay tuned
(and before anyone asks, yes, it involves flashing a modified kernel, so you must have an unlockable bootloader, but don't fret! If you did a TA backup you'll be able to fully restore all DRM-related features)
Edit: here we go, make good use
If I relock the bootloader the mod kernel work fine? I say this because if I have the fotakernel mod recovery and bootloader unlock them work, but if I relock the bootloader them recovery not work more.

Sounds good!
It's already available... See thread

I successfully unlock boot loader, root and recovery to flash xposed framework.

Followed that tutorial. Worked like a charm on my Xperia M5 Dual (E5663). The only difficulty I had was to correctly install fastboot drivers on Windows 10 for my device, I had to start W10 with disabled driver signature verification, but everything else worked great! Thanks.

Ok. Finally, there is a way to root your phones without unlocking the bootloader.
Please download vroot from below link:
You need to have USB debugging switched ON in your phone.
http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
and run it from PC.
Note: I had to run this tool from PC twice to make it work. The same could happen with you. Its 100% working!
Thanks

Below are the steps to overcome your difficulty...
1) root using vroot, i suppose u have already done this.
2) install super su.
3) disable vroot by going to settings>apps>all apps. Find vroot, click and then disable it.
4) run super su. It will give a prompt to update su. Select yes and then select normal.
5) your phone might boot abnormally. If it does run super su again. And then again follow the previous step.
6) finally you will see that super su has become your main su app and then you can enable vroot.
7) run super su again and then it will show conflict between vroot and super su. If it does, uninstall vroot from within super su.
Thats all. Do give your feedback. Its very important to disable vroot app to make super su the default app.

Hi,
Please answer below questions:
1) Were you able to successfully root t2 ultra using vroot? Please install "root checker" app and then let me know.
2) If root was successful, did you disabled the vroot app from settings>>apps>>all apps>>vroot befor running SuperSU?
Thanks

I cannot understand the meaning of joy in backing up TA keys.
This method is very good for people who do not want to unlock the bootloader and still want root functionality.
The major issues that i was able to solve since yesterday in my rooted phone are:
1) Solved the low sound problem
2) Made Superior Auto camera mode work in full 13MP resolutions.
3) Install the latest Android L theme for rooted phones.
4) Install the Screen off animation.
5) Activated the in built call recorder in T2 Ultra.
Possibilities are endless. Will come up with more items. And yes, for now atleast I don't need to unlock the bootloader.
Thanks

First of all you need to root your phone.
1) Low sound problem was solved using Sound Mod which is available in CWM thread by doomLord.
2) Installed Xposed framework and then installed Cyber-shot xposed module to enable to 13MP in superior auto mode.
3) This is available in Gizmobolt.com homepage. For complete fun, rooting is required.
4) Xposed module named ScreenOffAnimations.
5) Again used Xposed module for the same.
Thanks

Yes ... u are correct. But atleast we have a root.
However, you are correct. Working as root without unlocking the bootloader seems a bit risky too. If something goes wrong for eg. bootloop etc. there might be no way to recover. Am I correct?
I am not having XA1 Plus anymore. This kernel is development discontinued. Sorry for that.
Hello Xperia lovers , Today i am going to present you Xperia XA1 Plus Stock kernel with more usefull features . Since Xperia xa1 plus is not added into XDA yet, Project device is selected temporarily. Will move it later when form Moderators will add this device.
No need to tell about what is kernel and what it do . because almost everyone know these days about kernel and its working process.
So with this kernel you will get twrp 3.2.1 (Latest build) which i have moded to work with MTP devices.
More ever in some devices Data in encrypted automatically. Forcefully data encryption is disabled in this kernel.

Just simply turn on your device, wait for viberation and white led. then press Vol+ OR Vol- button to enter recovery mood Both will work.
This is intial release of this kernel, will update it with more features time by time.
wait for next release with more useful mods and features
To flash this kernel simply install Fastboot and ADB drivers and use flashtool in fastboot mood OR
install ADB and Fastboot drivers,
Then put boot.img in adb and fastboot home path and Or switch off your device and press Vol+ button and attach usb cable
Code:
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot reboot
Warning :
Code:
This kernel needs unlocked bootloader
Your Warrenty is void.
i am not responsible if something goes wrong with flashing.
Attaching Stock Boot.img also in case if anyone want to move to stock kernel again.
Many Thanks to developers who inspired us and created tools to work smoothly.

It's for latest firmware only? .117 one?
Does it support MAGISK or only SuperSU?
What about DRM fix/patch?
Sorry for so many questions, but probably some other user would ask them anyway

You can uncrypt your phone but if you.flash a stock rom, the kernel at first boot will automatically encrypt your memory again. There are 2 different encryption, one by code and one with standard image key. At this moment the twrp will automatically uncrypt the system key but you need to manually write the code (if is setted). The tool will uncrypt both method, the flash of stock rom will re-uncrypt with system key but not with code key

Just got my Pixel 2XL the other day and am excited to root and start modding. I have been monitoring this thread just to see what issues people are running into but it looks like not many people are even doing this surprisingly. I mean that's why I bought this Google phone, so I don't have to deal with locked bootloaders that these carriers put in them to discourage rooting. I know this phone is also locked but it's not for the purpose of keeping people from rooting them. I just think that it's so odd that this thread has very little activity.

The device is very expensive, has dual partitions, has gotten a lot of bad press, and not near as Dev friendly as some others. Having said that, there are about 5 custom roms, root, exposed, substratum, and various launcher and active edge mods. So it's not like we're hurting too bad ??
Don't like sharing secrets with Google, but still want to use their apps like Play Store/YouTube and others?
AOSP Roms are not stable enough for everyday use or missing some stock functionality?

Awesome performance, stability and battery life.
Most of the apps containing words "backup", "logging", "monitor", "smart" and other that may leak your personal data have been removed.
This ROM converts your G8141 to G8142, buy yourself a microSD slot for G8142 and use your XZP with 2 simcards.

Not sure about the details for G8188 (which I think is the Japanese variant). If your device is not the dual-SIM variant, you need to flash G8141 firmware.
And I'm not really sure about how to deal with a device that's lost its IMEI and baseband.

Well, I experimented with oreo, because I like it more than pie, but it's not that stable yet. There are some mystical bugs and bootloops, that doesn't make any sense at all to me.
If there will be demand for Oreo version, I will consider making it.

Nice. I was using NanoDroid with the China ROM but it wasn't fully compatible, especially that the contacts sync adapter wasn't working. I'll give this a try once I'm back in the house. Thanks.

Through googling, there are a few tutorial in going through how to get this rooted. But does anyone has any success?
Do I have to apply to unlock the OEM unlocker first through online before getting started?

Yes, your F3 bootloader has to be unlocked. Keep in mind that doing so will NOT void device warranty, but phone contents will be erased. So take a backup of personal or important files before proceeding.
Thank you Leo,
Just started the unlock process and it requires 168hr (7days) of wait time , guess I can still uses my op5 phone for sometime until the wait.
Pretty annoying way of wait but at least its not unattainable.

Hey. Are you sure it won't void warranty ? E.g.article
Bootloader Unlocking does not Void Warranty of Xiaomi and Redmi Devices - Gizmochina
Xiaomi smartphones are popular in the developer community, thanks to the company’s policy regarding warranty against unlocking of bootloader. But the brand has now updated its policy. Thankfully, bootloader unlocks still does not void warranty of Xiaomi and Redmi devices but with some caveats...
www.gizmochina.com
It says about unlock policy :
... "This policy is applicable to Xiaomi phones in India under both the Mi and Redmi sub-brand. Other regions could possibly have variations to this policy. And before you ask, POCO is excluded from the scope of this article and this policy entirely as it operates as an independent unit and has its own separate policy."
Do you have the source of the information that unlocking POCO from anywhere in the world is officialy not voiding warranty?
I don't know exactly if the above apply in your country.
Here in Italy Xiaomi/POCO said clearly that bootloader unlock and device rooting DOES NOT void warranty.
If further operations will lead to a phone crash/brick, so warranty will be void, and device will be repaired at a cost.
If in doubt, I suggest to ask directly to your local POCO office.
I've got not local poco office jn my country (Poland) . When asked reseller they said - every software modification results in warranty loss. I don't trust their judgment entirely. Anybody know who I may ask about that?
Eventually we all know we relock bootloade, but if they want to they can see if that was the case.
I'm really struggling about unlock + root. I'm not sure if phone has a any defect.
I'll do it for sure in time (I really need V4A). I would have more morales if it was not loosing warranty

Be aware that installing V4A on Android R devices like our F3 isn't as simple as it was with previous versions.
For example, the driver needs Selinux set to permissive to work correctly (a little risky practice).
For the moment I decided to give up, and installed a similar alternative (Wavelet).
Well. On my poco f1 with android q it was problematic but I found workaround not setting Linux to permissive I think. I just had to restart v4a and Spotify often before to make it work ^^. I am desperate to have it. I can't use in-ear headphones without auditory ear protection. They hurt my ears. Wavelet does not have that. Is it a way to achieve the effect? It's a bit off topic already so I will just ask elsewhere...

Yes. Before flashing the patched boot.img you must unlock the bootloader of your F3.
What is this? There is option in dev opt that unlocks bootloader.I never unlocked my old phones by manufacturer.

It does not unlock bootloader, it only allows you to do it in fadtboot if you toggle it. With Xiaomi you need as well their blessing with a code to be able to unlock bootloader as far as I know (no real life experience with Xiaomi yet, still waiting for my F3)
Today I managed to set up Magisk Root without TWRP!
Installation
The Magic Mask for Android
topjohnwu.github.io
"Patching Images"
The first time the F3 was stuck in bootloop so please save the original Boot.img on the PC to flash it via Fastboot if something goes wrong.
Bootloader unlock is mandatory, is only unlocked after 1 week and deletes all data.

Does unlocking the bootloader disable the ota rom update ? If that's the case do you have to manually flash the rom through fast boot everytime for updating?

Afaik unlocking bootloader does not, rooting does disable ota.
And yes. Only way to flash/update roms is via fastboot untill twrp release.
I found some instructions on how to preserve Magisk root on A/B devices like our F3:
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/ota.html
I need some advice because the Magisk uninstall process described up there involves original boot.img restoring.
But how can it be possible? The original boot.img is only on my PC, and not on the phone...
Hello, is it possible and how to have magisk after unlocking and flashing a rom with fastboot ?

Yes, it's absolutely possible.

The above operations must be repeated every time you'll flash a new ROM.
I have flashed it but failed safety check .
And can't get the adaway work
