Hi all,
I'm trying to setup RetroArch on my Fire TV Stick with an Ouya controller, and have the controller keymap working properly. Now I am running into an issue that the left trigger is always mapped to Home on the Fire Stick, and am unable to get around it. This is problematic as I can't map the trigger to anything else, and inadvertantly pressing the trigger while in RetroArch causes the game to pause and the Ouya controller is no longer recognized after resuming.
I can see the keylayout file in /system/usr/keylayout for the Ouya controller, but can't comment out the line mapping the left trigger to home. (Not rooted).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Why not root?

I have tried many build of Retroarch and could not get the XBOX360 controller to work. I have read many posts people got this to work but I cannot replicate this.
The controler works ok outside in the menu and allow me to select the game. Once the game starts, I could only use Start button which brings up the RGUI and Back button which goes back to the Retroarch menu.
Anyone can give me any tips?
Also I am using the XBOX wireless dongle. If I leave this plug in, the Amazon Fire TV will start in Safe Mode. No idea
In the Retroarch input settings, if you disable auto detect you can scroll way down and enter custom mappings into controller 1. The left joystick was detected as dpad but only the dpad works for me in game.
I'm just going to copy and paste the post I just made and what I did to fix it.
I have tired the controller with Sev Zero and Deus Ex. I have also tried an Xbox 360 controller. They work in the Fire TV menu, but not in any of the games. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? The only thing I can think of is that somehow the buttons got mapped funky when I mapped them for XBMC using FireTV Side App Installer.
I figured it out. For some reason the Xbox 360 Dongle was causing the problem. I still had it plugged into the USB port. Once I removed that and restarted, everything seemed to work with the fire TV game controller.

Logitech USB unifying dongle (I use it for mouse & keyboard) also causes issues with Amazon Fire TV game controller.
Game controller works in some game, and works limited or not at all in others.
Removing the unifying extension dongle (not needed in hindsight) fixes the issue.
My fire controller works in the Fire TV menu, but not in any of the games.
Help
Hi,
I tried plugging in a wired, USB mouse in the back of my Fire TV Box... I get nothing on screen. I tried a second mouse.. same result. Does the Fire Tv NOT support a mouse? I searched around online and found conflicting info. The only reason I wanted to use the mouse is to click the big "Start Test" button at the center of the screen in the Speedtest.net app I sideloaded... It can't be reached via the remote.
Thanks!
.
Well u can look for aft general tread download download an apk call wukong remote launch the app, it will search for aft in address that's what working for me
My firetv recognized my mouse with no special settings. I just plugged the mouse directly into the USB slot... same for a USB keyboard.
Mouse = old Gateway mouse
Keyboard = cheap Dynex
Did you happen to be on the default launcher when you tried? Since the last three updates the mouse cursor is invisible on the Fire TV launcher, when system menus are on the screen and inside some native Fire TV apps. I don't think the cursor being invisible effects everyone, cause only a few people said they experience the problem when I made a thread about it.It only happens if I use a USB or Bluetooth mouse, but if I use a remote mouse app like Wukong the cursor is visible on the whole system. Try opening an app that was not made for the Fire TV, like Kodi and see if it works, cause my cursor is visible inside all my apps, but if I go to the Fire Launcher it becomes invisible. Its kind of annoying not being able to see the cursor on Fire TV apps, but I have gotten used to it.
To be clear, the mouse still works its just invisible, so its kinda useless because you can't click on system menus, cause you cannot see where the cursor is. As soon as you open an app like Kodi the cursor will reappear.
Thnks everyone for the replies. I had USB debugging turned on in the developer options which knocked out my mouse. Everything is working now.
I bought a bluetooth game controller in hopes of using with my Fire TV stick and am having a few issues. It pairs nicely with my stick but some of the buttons are off. Is there a way to map the buttons on the fire tv stick? If not are there any ideas on some hacks?
Any ideas on this?

Are you looking to manage/customize Kodi or the native FireTV interface. If it's native, you don't need too many buttons and I presume you have that working.
If it's Kodi, then you can use keyboard.xml to map whatever you want. Check:
http://kodi.wiki/view/Keymap
http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_keymaps

Hope that helps.
I am having the same problem. I have an Ouya controller. All was working fine on OS3 but after updating to OS5 D-pad now acts as Home, burger etc., and so does L & R trigger buttons. This means they override any mapping within apps such as emulators and I can no longer use them
Is it possible to remap the buttons?

I am also trying to map an Ouya controller
Is root needed to replace the kl files?

from my experience yes, you need root to add/remove/edit any kl files in that directory.
Hi,
I just got a Fire TV Cube 2nd generation and I was trying to pair it with a game controller to use Steam Link, Shadow and Geforce Now. I've been able to pair both a Xbox One and a PS4 controllers via bluetooth but both end up having the same problem; the home button doesn't work as expected and the start button doesn't work at all.
With the Xbox One controller the home button takes you back to the Fire TV launcher while the start button doesn't do anything. The select button seem to do what the home button should do as by pressing it the Steam overlay pops up but it takes it quite many seconds to realise I have pressed it.
So apparently Amazon has dropped support for game controllers, even theirs, but I don't get how the option is still available, controllers can be paired but then there is no way to configure them to fix these issues.
Does anyone know if there is any way to fix this problem?
Thanks.

You can use button mapper app.
