Multi Window Support on HTC 10 - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking XDA since rooting my HTC One X and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout the years.
I am wondering if anyone knows of a rom that supports Multi Window for the HTC One? Right now I am on Venom 2.5.0 and have edited the build prop to active this on 6.0.1. and of course I have enabled it from Developer Options. Even gave the phone a restart.
The icon shows up on the app cards in recent apps but they don't do anything when clicked.
Also I gave tried the XMultiWindow module as an alternative and for some reason it won't run two apps at the same time the other will go blank.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's working with MaximusHD ROM

don't think its rom specific from android 6onwards which is why it lets us enable by editing build props...
i am able to use multi window by editing buildprop - reboot - followed by enabling it in developer options - advanced - enable multi window....
could you confirm the buildprop string and value which you had edited?

Interesting. May I ask what rom you are on?
I believe I edited the right string since I see the multi window icon.

i was on LeeDroid at the the time of screenshot... works on IceRom and Viper as well...as mentioned earlier this isn't a rom feature but a feature already present for all 6.0.1 roms....
string you need to edit would be below along with the value to userdebug which would be default as user(non multi window)

Thanks for this advice! I think it was China's Recent Apps that was giving me the issue.

[Q] VirginROM (and other ROM) Questions

I bought a Galaxy S4 from my local T-Mobile store, and unhappy with several components of TouchWiz (and the bloatware), I decided to flash a custom Google-like ROM on it - finally choosing VirginROM. The thing is, since I haven't been posting in here, I can't ask my questions in the ROM's thread... Also, this is the first time I've flashed a ROM, or even a rooted a device, so some of my questions will be unrelated to the specific ROM I chose.
So here there be questions. Feel free to direct me to any appropriate guides and resources for the answers, I am as happy reading on my own as having the answer handed to me.
VirginROM Updates: It looks like the ROM is being updated pretty frequently. How do I update it? Through the system updates (that doesn't sound right), or by... re-flashing the ROM?
VirginROM addons: Same question. How do I install them?
Uh, my posting time was cut short. I'll add the other questions a little later. Those two were the big ones anyway.

You just flash them through recovery.
You install the addons through recovery as well.
Doing a full wipe when installing new updates is recommended but you can get away with just wiping cache & dalvik cache.
Are the updates being released as separate (small) archives, or as an updated version of the full ROM?

Usually most of the time is the full ROM updated. They'll let you know when its only an incremental update that you can just flash on top of the current version.

I see. A question for VirginROM users specifically then: does the latest version (2.0) support taking screenshots? I tried the default shortcuts, but they seem to be nonfunctional.

That's weird... I could've sworn I tried that and it didn't work... Works now though, so all id good.
A couple more VR-specific questions then:
Lock screen widgets: do those work? I tried touching and holding around the lock screen, but all I get is the ability to resize the native clock widget and select the lock button (I use the slide option to unlock)
Contact merging: On my old phone I could choose to manually merge certain contacts (e.g. I could choose my phone contact "Alex" and then add my Facebook contact "Alexander S." and merge them even though the names weren't identical). Is this something I can do here somehow?
This is JB 4.3 and the API has changed to 18, so keep that in mind, it's also built from a leaked, test build. I am not sure about ur questions because this is not my daily driver. I know there is a camera if you slide the clock down and then slide the box right, and some additional if you slide left instead of right. Just ask in the VirginROM thread, it's much better to post ur questions there and to keep that thread active. Someone will definitely help you a lot quicker also, even mrvirginia himself, he is cool as hell, make sure to donate to him if you can as well.
To be perfectly honest, the only reason I am asking here is because I don't have the 10 posts required to post in the ROM's thread. As soon as I get there I'll ask my questions in the much more appropriate forum.

Lock screen widgets work perfectly. Make sure you swipe close to edge of screen.
Also, remember that this is Nexus- like, not Cyanogenmod-like. And very much different than Touchwiz. Most things work as they would on a Nexus. This rom runs extremely well. The battery percentage mod (flash in recovery) is highly recommended.
To add toggles to notification shade , try Widgetsoid, Power Toggles, or Settings Extended from the Play store. i have not seen a mod for Quick Settings toggles yet.

Navigation bar on stock Rom

Guys how to enable navigation bar on stock odex Rom 4.2.2?
I used gravity box and Modaco tools and both are giving error as 'system ui has stopped' and blank statusbar after reboot
Then I tried build.prop edit and even I landed on same error
Anybody has tried? If so could give a proper way to enable it thanks.

sir i also tried it once but had same fate as your's
i think we can only have it only in custom roms like pac rom or aokp or cm
I tried even on stock based custom ROMs but no results...this can be done only on cm or pacman ROMs as u said.

I think I had to decompile SystemUI.apk and add/edit something like

#FFRRBBGG

then adding/editing the line in build.prop didn't cause FC and gave me nav bars.
I did this a long time ago I can't be sure that's all I did, but it was something along those lines. I'm sure there's a method available on xda to enable navbar on samsung 4.2.2 by now

Yes and the systemUI needs to be decompiled, edited and recompiled into an apk to stop the force closes on stock ROM with nav bar
I also tried many things on stock to enable navbar but no use.
I also watched a few videos on youtube and for them it was working on stock but i made the same changes in build.prop but every time the same error, dont know why.
So now i'm on CM11 and using navbar, I dont know what the problem is but i'm sure some devs will soon be able to solve this.

I came across this while browsing through XDA, Ultimate Dynamic NavBar
Since there is no available mod for stock ROMs for our device, it would be easier to rely on this App/Xposed module to enable Nav Bar in your phone. It also offers several customization options along with themeing the icons visible in your navbar.

I've used this one but the stock navbar is better coz it works well with the UI.
But i've seen a few videos, you can also check them out on youtube, the guy made changes in the stock rom in build.prop by adding qemu.hw.mainkeys=0, restarted and voila he got the navbar. I just wanna know how?

That works most of the time, specially in AOSP ROMs, but unfortunately simply doing that in most new Samsung 4.2.2+ firmware causes SystemUI to crash.
From what I know, this happens because our SystemUI was not designed to support a NavBar so when the android system allots the lower space to the Navbar (after editing build.prop) the SystemUI tries to redraw over/with it and fails, causing a FC. Therefore, something like the line I mentioned in one of my earlier posts is required in the drawables of SystemUI.apk before Navbar can be used on stock.
"
#FFRRBBGG
"
Fortunately for us, we now have Xposed, which enables us to edit system apks without actually modifying them. So in my opinion it's easier to simply make/use a mod for enabling this feature in SystemUI.apk rather than making a ROM-specific mod for enabling it.

You can't. It's not the same device.
Swappa is your possibility...
We're supposed to get Nougat this year, so that's one thing. Can the Android Assistant be installed from the Play Store? Will it eventually be integrated with Android anyway? You may just need to wait.
As stated you can't as different hardware.
You could install the pixel launcher as an alternative to Sense

The possibility is zero. lol The same possibility of changing you HTC 10 into a Samsung S7.
Nougat is a couple of weeks away, so be patient. Most of the features that Pixel has will be on the new HTC 10 ROM. There are a few that won't. but not many.
Well if you wanna get close to a pixel, you can do as I have done.
0: Root your device
1: Install Pixel launcher
2: Install Google Phone app & messenger app (Deleting HTC Phone and Messenger app)
3: Install Google assistant with Xposed
4: Delete HTC lockscreen (this will give you stock lockscreen)
5: (optional) Add Android N-ify to get the 7.0 drop down menu
Tada your phone will look like a pixel phone, (apart from the settings menu)
This will give the HTC as much stock feeling as can be without making an ASOP or custom rom.
This is my Google Pixel "port":
-Xposed Framework
-Xstana (AOSP L + ReallyNougat)
-N-ify
-Nova Launcher
-Muzei (For cool blurred Wallpaper)
I'm on ICE Rom, you can all customizing what you need it for the "port". Sorry for my bad english and i hope i can help you.

You can get multi window with a build.prop edit.
Find the ro.build.type=user line, and change it to ro.build.type=userdebug. Then go to Settings > Developer Options. Select "drawing" and enable Multi-window.
You can do this on any ROM.

I was also about to make a thread about it so that's right, same here. I changed in buildprop to userdebug and there was the option for multiscreen in developer options but thats all. It doesn't seem to work. I think there are some files missing from the firmware, i mean it's totally not supported.
Isn't there an explode mod to do this?
PS. i even tried with adding this line in buildprop:
persist.sys.debug.multi_window=true - no luck
also tried the splitwindow support all in buildprop...
Yup sir no work at all Lg doesnt give that option for k series I also tried that persist line but no work at all
After rebooting from edited build.prop the screen showing a txt in color red in the right down corner saying that userdebug xxxx like that. Yeah thats what I exactly think that the firmware is incomplete
Anything like floating windows? I found the com.lge.app.floating.res.apk in the system/priv-app folder and it is the original lg qslide function (lg's floating window stuff). I just could not make it work, maybe someone will be luckier then me... i guess some xml files (from the system/etc/permission folder) and jar files (form the system/framework folder) are missing.

You should have xposed framework installed, but however it won't work because xposed doesn't work with k10
Xposed actually works quite well on my k8 however those mods for multiwindow are quite old so they don't really support marshmallow...
Actually I manage to install xposed using TWRP flashing 2 zip files and an intsalled apk. However I think most modules have bugs in K10. I try to install the xmultiwindow = not work and xhalo with floating notif= not work and can cause system UI error cant use it anymore in other words a softbricked device. Well that was my last attempt not to work with multiscreen anymore. A completely hopeless for that.

Disable high volume warning

Hi, I want to disable the High volume warning, I already have a solution, right now I use terminal shortcut pro and have created a shortcut to run the command
Code:
settings put global audio_safe_volume_state 0
it work great but doesn't survive a reboot so I have to run the shortcut after every reboot. I found an old thread on reddit that say adding the line
Code:
audio.safemedia.bypass=true
to build.prop can also disable the high volume warning, but the thread was so old, they were talking android 6.0
I plan to try to add this prop on boot using the magisk module MagiskHide Props Config, I know it work great because I already added a prop to reduce the media volume steps to 15 instead of 30, but i dont know if the prop
Code:
audio.safemedia.bypass=true
is still working on android 10
Another solution would be to have an app that run the terminal command
Code:
settings put global audio_safe_volume_state 0
automatically after boot, but I would prefer to add the prop line if anyone can confirm it still work on android 10
Thank you all !
Nice to know.... what's also wondering from time to time how to overcome the warning. let me know if you get it to a working solution.

I still use it with 11 on my OP7T but I am unsure if this prop remove the audio warning or if there is no warning at all on my device. Never tried 11 wihtout the prop so IDK.
Another way you can try is the system UI tuner app on the play store, there is a setting to disable the warning under the audio & sound category. Good luck !

Thank you for your reply! I kept trying to no avail. Can't make it work unfortunately. When you upgraded to android 11, did you make the procedure again from scratch? Can you please explain what you did on termux?
Is the system ui app an app that it's aways on background?
Thank you so much!

No the system UI tuner app just change some hidden android settings, it do not run in the background. The description of the app even state you can delete the app once you changed the desired setting. Read the whole description to understand how it work. Try it, I think this might be the best solution.

i can confirm that no app does change the setting of safe volume limit.
All tests on rooted device from LOS14-LOS19. Tried different apps like systemuituner, safevolumelimitdisabler, volumesteps+, jamesdsp etc.
Tried to patch the global variable "safe_media_volume" like described here on a rooted device but no luck.
Just ran
[adb shell] settings put global audio_safe_volume_state 0
via adb, when the message popped up, afterits i had to confirm the nag-screen, to raise the volume. it's so weird..
