Can't get Sony Xperia Ion into recovery mode - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hey guys!
My friends might describe myself as tech savvy but I've never really gone into rooting or andorid devices in general. I'm currently following a guide on android (dot) gs (which I can't link to specifically, as this is my first post, I'm sure a quick search might show it) to install the 4.4. Pureslim Firmware. Up until now I've rooted it with this app called KingoRoot which seems to have done... something successfully. I'm at the point in the guide where I've downloaded the packaged firmware update onto the SD card, the next step is to set it into recovery mode, whipe it clean and use the data on the SD card to install the firmware. But here's the problem...
I can't get the Ion into recovery mode, I've tried some silly "press the powerbutton and volume up and volume down and do a backflip" things which didn't seem to work out, the apps in the guide on the android (dot) gs site on recovery mode for android devices (again, no link but you might know the page) point to don't seem to do much either, when I tell it to restart in recovery, it just reboots normally. I've also read a few times that the Ion doesn't even have a standard recovery mode, but that means there's no way for it to go into recovery as it is?
Hoped you guys could shed some light on this, thanks in advance! :good:

Problem with Recovery Mode (CWM) after rooting (Xperia Arc S)

Hi everyone,
Before criticizing me for posting this thread please note that I've spent a lot of time googling and trying to find a solution.
Before I begin I want to mention that I'm pretty new to android system. I learned few basics today but must admit I'm a noob. I've had my Xperia Arc S for a while now, but decided to root it (got annoyed with all restrictions + bloadware). But to the point.
After few hours I successfully unlocked bootloader and rooted my device. It's been 7 hours now and I'm really stuck. Finally I decided to get help from you guys - I'm just fed up with it.
Here's my problem:
At the first place I had Android 2.3.4 [4.0.2.a.0.62]. Found out that this version is hard to unlock and root, so I downgraded it to 4.0.2.a.0.42 (which apparently was easier to achieve what I wanted).
Then I followed the guide how to unlock bootloader - succeeded.
Later I used OneClickRoot to root my device - also succeeded.
Now the problem begins - I've read this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592104
Tried to install CWM using Rom Manager - failed as I got the message that my LT18i is not supported. Instead I installed X-Parts and using it I installed CWM. Seems it all went fine but I can't access Recovery Mode - and seriously I tried everything: volume up, volume down, hold, pressing few times, tried even with back and menu button. I also tried "Reboot to recovery" option in X-Parts - still no result.
I downloaded SE Extreme Tweak and installed CWM using this program but still nothing.
As far as I know to install new ROM I need an access to Recovery Menu. I want to install Stock ROM 2.3.4 [4.0.2.a.0.62] (the one I had before) and remove unnecessary bloatware.
Any suggestions guys? How to fix that Recovery Mode problem?
My device details:
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S
LT18i
Android version: 2.3.4
Buld number: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Thanks for any help!

Have you tried flashing a custom kernel? As far as I know, they come with recovery pre-installed. I'd suggest you give the following a go. Should definitely work for you.

Thanks for reply. Well the thing is - maybe it's a bit silly reason - that I love the favourites widget in 2.3.4. As far as I know this widget is not available in any other versions - even custom ROM's....
edit: Sorry just noticed that it's actually "fixed" version of stock Kernel. Thanks, will try to give it a go then
Are these similar to what you're looking for?

I'm sure Google Play has a lot of what you want.
The first one is. I used it before - need to use Go Launcher with it though, which I didn't really like :/
The one I'm talking about is called "favorites and call log widget" (sorry apparently as a new user I can't post outside links to show you what I'm exactly after)
@ MarcSinger
thanks again for trying to help, I've read the post, however it still requires to boot the phone in recovery mode, which I'm not able to do
Any other suggestions guys?
Guys I sorted it out!!
I unrooted the phone (don't know if this helped), rooted again, then found this app "5.0.2.7-nAa-r2 Auto-Installer", installed it on my device and installed CWM from there. Now I can access Recovery Mode. Finally I can carry on with flashing ROM. Will try to install what MarcSinger posted.

If your bootloader is unlocked then simply flash a kernel with CWM, no need to install it via the apps.

Glad I could help, good luck!
u solved it yourslef, lol.
this app is cwm-auto-installer. i always use it after rooted to install cwm though i flashed the custom kernel had cwm pre-installed.
2 cwm is just better for me, i dont know why but i use lupusv14 kernel, in kernel's cwm, it doesnt do the action "advance restore" like restore system only, so i return to manual cwm to do this

sr, i just seen this notif. maybe cwm was not installed actually, though these apps (xpart, rommanager, recovery...) said is was completed. i think these apps cannot install by ifself (if i remember exactly, cuz a long time ago n i dont use arc anymore). so u must use cwm-auto-installer app, install this app, open it then tap 3rd line to install cwm inside this app. i always do that after root (though i use kernel have cwm preinstalled).
after that, when u power on ur phone, ull see green led light which means u have cwm already n able to access cwm by pressing volume (-) when that led light appear, through that moment u cant access anymore n must reboot to try again. or easier u can use [ndr utils] app, have all reboot option.

If you have an unlocked bootloader just flash a kernel with CWM on it, why go through all the trouble to use CWM auto installer if it doesn't work for you?
You could also try connecting your phone with your computer, make sure you have adb drivers installed and adb turned on in developers settings on your phone , then just type in this command within a terminal: adb reboot recovery .
Please Note that this solution does not mean you haven't got recovery installed on your phone, so this one might fail.!
Have you guys tried holding power + camera? I once had a recovery installed which used the camera button to enter recovery
Also do not press the power button for to long or your phone might just restart and doesn't have the time to boot in recovery, so start up holding volume down or up and press power, realease the power after like 7 seconds , (can't remember how long it really was so experiment.... )

Phone stuck at android logo

I searched the forums and Didn't find any answers that were helpful..So i am opening a thread..
I am using a huwaei ascend p6 using android 4.2.2, not sure about the kernel versions..
My phone suddenly restarted and is stuck at the android logo ..Its not booting up , it keeps restarting when i press the power button. I can access the recovery mode..
Can the experts please guide me on how i can get my phone to boot up and working..?
Download the update file and put it on a sdcard and in the phone, then install through recovery. The steps were discussed in detail recently, look around a bit.
ps: You will use your data.
Good luck!
Or do a factory reset from stock recovery. To boot on it press and hold all three HW keys or with > adb reboot recovery command from a PC.

I have tried the factory reset , but shows failed to mount the data

This thread in particular has all the links and tools in one place. Also there are other usefull threads in the General subforum.
I haven't dealt with a bricked phone, and thus don't want to give you any false instructions and complicating the situation any further. I am running the B125 firmware, I think it's pretty good, if not the best so far.

T2 Ultra stuck in a bootloop after Supersu update

Hello,
My phone which is not a dual sim is stuck in a bootloop. I have rooted the phone previously then installed Supersu, however i didn't flash any recovery. About four days ago Supersu ask for an update, so i updated it. Then the app ask to reboot, after i press the reboot button then it is now stuck in a bootloop. I can't reset it now since i didn't flash any recovery inside. Is there any way to fix this now? I tried the Xperia companion software i downloaded but it could not detect my phone.
Same problem
Hi, I had the same issue with my T2 ultra.
I hope you have some backup of your datas, 'cause to solve the problem I had to make a factory reset which made me loose root, so I had to root it again. I followed this tutorial: Sony XPERIA T2 Ultra ROOT and Recovery by Jozinek.
1 hour of work and the phone is alive
After that you have to download SuperSU v. 2.79. In the specific post from Chainfire https://www.xda-developers.com/chainfire-recommends-staying-in-supersu-2-79-for-xperia-users/
I hope I've been useful and don't worry, this method is not difficult as it may seem :good:
Bye
So how can I fix it now? My phone is in the bootloop and I didn't make any backup. I was able to download the firmware from the xperia website but how can I flash that in when I don't have a recovery mode to boot in?

You have to follow this tutorial step by step which allows you to have first root and then to install a recovery:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t2-ultra/general/sony-xperia-t2-ultra-root-recovery-t3213461
First make a factory reset on your phone by opening the sim slot and push the little blue button with something not too sharp. The phone will be turned off.
Then you have to do everything that the tutorial says and the go read the second link that i gave you in the previous post.
If i suggested you this method it's because for me it worked. I'm a newbie myself and i've started some months ago so i'm not an experct but i hope i'm helping you.
If you need more let me know and i can see what i can do.
See you soon, in case
if you got no more options, just use flashtool.
the flashtool won't recognize my phone even though i did installed the drivers.
Got it! Thanks for all the help. I was flashing a wrong firmware.
no need for all that.. just downgrade to SuperSU 2.79
1. go to supersu.com download page
2. download "Recovery V2.79 Flashable.zip"
3. copy it to your SD card root
4. flash it with recovery & you are done

Samsung Galaxy ASM320FL stuck at boot!!!

Hello!
I would really appreciate it if someone can help me. I tried to install twrp custom recovery and something went wrong. I can't start up my phone, get into recovery mode, or connect to the pc to try adb and load the boot loader from there. I can however get the phone into download mode and it is recognized in odin tools.
I did a titanium backup of all system apps too which is saved on my sd card.
If someone knows how to help I would very much appreciate it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series-2017/how-to/official-nougat-release-download-guide-t3654413
You have to google search the firmware for you version of the phone. Mine is A320Y but there is also A320F and others, hopefully you know which one yours is.
Download the firmware then follow the steps for "How to Flash" from the link above. You can fix it, don't worry.

S10e - impossibility to install Lineage OS

I need to install Lineage OS on this phone.
After multiple tries several months apart, I am still not in success.
Followed all internet tutorials and sites.
I don't want to install any G apps or any special root-things like magdisk..
I only want pure Lineage OS without any extra applications.
Way I tried and probably ended up like before:
Get newest official samsung ROM installed, update, enable usb debigging and oem, go download mode and go factory reset, get back in, sign in to wifi again, again enable develop. settings and usb debugging, go into download mode, take odin and install through the AP option the TWRP now that the phone is in download mode a 3rd time, supposed to be possible now with OEM unlock.
Most of the names on the way I don't understand, just follow tutorials.
I need to get to TWRP to then finally, as used to always, install Lineage from zip.
But I never get rebooted into TWRP recovery, just forver the samsung one, even when firmware is no longer there - after flashing in ap option the twrp tar again it never boots into TWRP afterwards.
Is there something else i must do? is not getting into oem unlock and flashing TWRP enough to get there?
And after, will the zip install finaly get me to have lineage installed?
Did you try the official guide?
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/beyond0lte/
I hope I picked the right phones, otherwise check devices overview.
Alternatively, perhaps this helps:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-a-graphical-installer-for-lineageos.4509995/
PS: Usually LOS doesn't do TWRP anymore but comes with its own recovery (a/b)
Why they don't do TWRP now?
I saw TWRP tuorial fot s10 on tutorials and it worked
Do I have to give up on TWRP way and od it with the adb commands from PC

It's because of this new double recovery scheme:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/help-understanding-a-b-partitions.3748003/post-75545902
https://source.android.com/docs/core/ota/ab
https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...ess-updates-affect-custom-development-on-xda/
EOD: It's safer, updating happens in the background, then just a quick reboot et voila.

Yes, it's still there but perhaps you post a link to your guide (or ask there). To me it seems you had TWRP just in your RAM but not your phone?
As for me, I finally gave up on TWRP and use the "crappy" LOS recovery Have way more important things to waste my time on...
PS: Sorry to bring such "bad" news, wasn't too happy with that change myself
Great, I finaly made it work.
I followed the site with turotial on installation and did not try TWRP
First I had to install samsung ROM again
It turned out to still stay unlocked so went straight to download mode and this time flashed Lineage recovery sucesfuly with heimdall
Then it booted up and a half samsung sreen made it seem like there is trouble
but Lineage recovery launched
The adb load from PC did not work so i chose to instal zip from SD even there
Now Lineage is installed
Still don't know how much is randomness, luck and so on
But it's done and hopefuly repeatable
