LG G4 extrem battery drain - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys!
Ive got my LG G4 for about a year but i got lately extreme battery problem.
Normally i could use my G4 for about 1,5 days. But lately i got massive Problem after the android 6 update and sometimes the battery is dead after 4 houts.
After the update i made a hard reset and reinstalled everything. Is there anothert thing i could do beside resetting the phone?
It is really strange because if i see a Galasy S6 it takes easy 1,5 to 2 days time without charging.
Also another question i got if it is possible to backup the downlodas from the google play music app.
I got some stations which i downloaded to my phone. But after the last reset the music which was downloded was not restored.
Quite strange because i used the google backup and i thought it would also backup the settings of the play music app?
Or do i have to use another app for the backup?
Greetings
Gold

What version of the G4 do you have? T-Mobile? Verizon?
There have been many reports of the latest Verizon OTA (26A) causing the exact issue you're describing.

Its actually a LG-H815
Software: V20d-262-02 with European Vodafone branding

There is always the chance of a bad battery like I experienced a week ago when the battery drains fast too and all I did was try another battery which fixed the problem so I had Verizon send me a new battery and it's working fine.

[Q] G3 still worth it with overheating and other bugs?

Hello guys,
I'm thinking of buying the LG g3 which for me is the best phone right now. However, I have seen it has some bugs regarding overheating, WiFi drop, bad battery life etc.. Do you think it is still worth it or should I go for a Z2 which has the same price in my country (Spain). Regarding the overheating issue, a lot of people say they have it and a lot of people say they don't... Is This just chance or is it linked to a specific model and version?
Thanks

As the overheating, since I upgraded to v10L firmware, overheating issues it completely gone for me, even after 40 minutes of playing Real Racing 3 on max detail mod or Dead Trigger 2 for about half an hour. It still heats just like every other device ( HTC, Samsung or Sony) but it doesn't get to extreme temperatures which turn off your phone automatically. What are those other bugs you are refering to?

I have my LG G3 for 2 months now and I never experienced any random reboot, except for 2 times when it said the reason was extreme temperature, but that got away after updating firmware and never happened again. But it was only when I had first firmware. I also use ART as runtime which is considered to be buggier and more "app crashy" than Dalvik, but I never got any crash or random reboot.. Usage of unoptimized apps can random reboot any phone. As for LG software, LG's apps and the most common and most widely used apps work perfectly without any hiccup. You should never experience any error, crash or random reboot. At least I didn't. Always try to use trusted and well optimized apps if you want the best experience. Also don't install any battery or RAM cleaning apps, that **** just slows down your phone and drain your battery rapidly. It depends on you if your phone will random reboot or not. It's not just LG thing, it also concerns HTC, Sony, Samsung or any other manufacturer. You can ask my sister, she installed few cleaners, RAM boosters, 1 optimizer and 2 battery boosters on new Nexus 7 which should be most stable Android experience, but her battery life got worse and she does often get random reboot. So treat your phone well and it won't random reboot anytime

G4 terrible battery life

Hey guys,
so i have noticed, that my battery life seems not to be the best one.. i wanted to know if maybe some of you experience the same drain or know how to improve the battery life. I'm on the latest LG Rom (TIM italia).
It is possible that your battery is worned out. I received a new G4 when it bootlooped, including a new battery, and the difference was visible from how long the first one lasted. The phone was 11 months old, so maybe that is your problem.

I have three different batterys, but each one has this bad battery life.. also got a new G4 because of bootloop
Install gsam it will break down usage chances are you have system/logs battery drain
Try charging your phone with an old 500ma charger couple of times, worked for me

Problem for me was Google services. Killed battery life. Factory reset fixed it.
common 818 problem, not fixed and probably never will be fixed as lg has abandoned this great device

this device is one of my few life purchases regrets, i paid too much and got too little, i'm using three batteries and still not enough to get through the day with two sim cards active and data on and listening to podcasts for about 3.5 hours a day.
for me, I'm never getting an LG device again.. too bad they are the last removable battery device manufacturer.
LG partner in the country i live in refused to change the phone and only replaced the motherboard when the freaking thing boot-looped on it's on.

Mine is Vodafone too, but from Italy. I have version 4.17.161.11.
My battery life has evened out to be kind of close to what I used to get but it's not as good as mm. I did do a factory reset and calibrated the battery and I'm now getting almost 3hrs of sot but it's about 30mins to 1hr less then before. I'm going to be putting my m9 in for a repair (hopefully free) to get my battery replaced before my warranty with Vodafone is up so if the battery does get replaced I'll do some tests to see if it's my battery or the update itself. If it's the update then I can light a fire under their butts to hopefully get Vodafone au and HTC to release a fix.

Good to know and I don't know about any work around but just check what apps are sucking battery. I did delete the one gallery app or whatever it's called as it was using over 25% of battery usage. I'd recommend calibrating your battery to get the best out of your phone. (I drain my phone to 0% or as close as I can get then charge it up to 100% with the phone off, unplug then turn it on drain it close to 5% if I can then charge the phone like normal and that usually works for me) I'll still put my phone in as it always turns off at 15% battery left or around that and won't turn on so it thinks it's dead with no charge when it's got 15% left.

I'd have to disagree as no phone in the world new or old has the ability to say,it's okay, you can root me now,it s the right time lmao, imo it's the 1st thing you do when you get a phone lol
back on topic: underclocking seems to have helped a little but to early to tell, also removed google chrome as that was sucking the most power & I ain't even used it once

See u are having 32gb memory and more over rooting is done to optimize apps and battery usage , optimization can also be done by disabling factory apps , root is my choice to install new rom
my battery dran now is like watching water go down a sink hole. I can literally see the drain go by one percent at a time ....i already disabled alot of my usual apps. but "HTC dot view" keeps coming up and i cannot disable even though I didn't activate it? didnt have this problem in Marshmallow.
i didnt disable Chrome (to save battery) because it now (in Nougat) apparently handles what Android System Webview app used to do in Marshmallow. (OT ,TL;DR I got a blank screen issue for Google play app because of Android Webvoew app problems not being updated...only solved it by auto-updating all my entire apps then updating the Android webview app and then switching back to Chrome and updating Chrome, for it all to work in Nougat..ie..Keep Chrome or Android Webview updated seems is required , or you may get blank screen on some apps ).

I deleted chrome from my phone and it's working just fine. There must have been some other issue with your phone.
And in regard to the battery drain: My phone's battery actually lasts longer than on MM. I only face a drain when I update Magisk from version 10.2 to 11.1. But I guess that info won't help you much since some of you are using a non-rooted stock rom...
Oh, and you better don't let your battery reach 0%. Lithium-ion batteries can get damaged by doing so. Android calibrates the battery automatically during the normal usage. And the memory effect only exists on Nickel–cadmium batteries so you don't have to fear losing capacity if you charge your M9 at higher percentages.

tks. I agree never let battery goto 0%. I never have either.
btw is your rom also vodafone Nougat? could be related to that rom?? , only because a few users here and I heard others seem to have same serious battery drain issue?
I had the "Blank app " issue when I updated to Nougat which (after gpogling and searching for a long while i found) some other Sony device users so had same blank google play app problem. The dev said that App System Webview had not been updated 'prior' to upgrading from Marshmallow to Nougat which caused thr problem.. apparently some bug in Nougat?. (I never updated Android webiew nor Chrome in marshmallow before). But after updating it, the blank screen on GooglePlay problem was rectified immediately...
apparently if you do disable Chrome, then Android System webview is automatically activated (for non rooted phones)? seems like we 'must' use one or the other now in Nougat stock?
TBH I just dont want to have the same ( really annoying) Google blank screen bug come back again..ya I could root this M9, my previous M9 was rooted, but after a 2nd replacement M9 , having had the previous one die suddenly, I decided keep this stock for the meantime.
Anyone know is there anyway Disable Dot View in stock Nougat? it keeps waking up. I think I recall I could disable it in settings Marshmallow? cant seem to do it in Nougat. Appreciate any advice.
Webview is needed for every app that has access to the internet, shows you data from the internet and isn't a browser (e.g. the play store). Therefore, it's always recommended to keep it up to date. On the one hand due to all the security fixes the updates contain and on the other hand due to all the bug fixes and compatibility fixes.
No, I'm using the European unbranded firmware and the latest venom rom which is based on the firmware I'm using. But there are more than enough reports about battery drain in that thread, too. The same applies to the Nougat OTA discussion thread in the General section. The strange thing is that no everyone is facing them even if those "lucky" users use the same firmware as those with the drain.
I can't help you with dot view since I have a dot view case and never tried to disable it on older firmware versions.

Heavy battery drain

Hello everyone. I have the LG G3 model D855 running Android 5.0. Recently I've noticed an issue with the phone's battery; it drains really fast. The phone was bought in August 2016 so it's pretty unusual for a technically new phone to have a bad battery. Anyway, I replaced it with a new one but the issue still existed with the addition of the battery charging really slowly. I figured the shop sent me a defective product so I told them to send me another one but it still had the same problem. I even ended up formatting my phone but the issue wasn't gone. Can anyone help me? What can I do to fix it? Any type of help would be appreciated.:crying:

Asus Zenfone 8 + LOS 19

Hi everyone,
In the last two months, Asus finally pushed the OTA update for Android 12 to my device. In the weeks after, the phone suffered increasingly terrible battery life. So, I factory reset and the battery life became acceptable again.
Unfortunately, Asus' OS itself is now experiencing problems. Apps constantly crash and no third-party launchers work correctly, either. I'm regularly missing texts and phone calls nowadays, and I'm getting fed up.
Instead of waiting for Asus' next update—and especially instead of rolling back to A11—I am considering LineageOS.
I previously installed LOS on my OnePlus 3 years ago and really liked the experience. Of course, I'm not sure if the same could be said for LOS on a Zenfone. I've heard certain things from Asus, like the stock camera app, do not play well with alternative op systems.
I'm wondering if anybody here has experience with LineageOS on an Asus phone—or, more specifically, the Zenfone 8. Any insights would be appreciated.
Hi,
i stumbled into your post by coincidence. I was looking for a solution for the problem i will mention below.
I installed lineage 18.1 for MicroG on my Zenfone 8 for a couple of weeks, now. My experience so far:
- MicroG is working fine, allowing me to use my banking apps with no problems
- The Aurora store woks without any problem
- Signal is working fine. I read some people having issue with it on LOS
- So, Pretty much everything is working fine so far, EXCEPT:
- Indeed, the camera is reaaally slow (more than 1 sec), and if opened with the power button on the lockscreen, it works, but then it makes it impossible to unlock the phone
- But the main issue which kept me busy so far is the cellular radio battery drain: more than 30%...
I don't think it's due to my operator, as i tested 2 different ones, and went to a zone with à 100% signal quality, and nothing changed.
So, if any other people are experiencing the same (or other issues), do not hesistate to post.
Thanks for your reply. Is the cellular radio battery drain due to a radio app you're using, or is it something with the phone itself? I do not use my particular device to listen to the radio, so I'm wondering if that bullet can be dodged.
Camera slugging is a bummer, though.
Hi Josipeen,
no, actually and unfortunately, the cellular radio drain is due to the mobile network. And it happens even when no sim card is inserted. So i would say it's a software problem. But i still haven't found the cause.
I just realized you mentionned LOS19. I'm using 18.1.

I was wondering if an update to 19 would resolve the issue – thanks for the update.
On a related note, battery drain is the reason I'm here in the first place. It's often my biggest gripe with today's tech. I'm considering a device with less performance, but better battery life, to resolve this very issue – like the Nokia XR20. Sigh....

That was an important factor for me too, together with privacy for me. The Nokia XR20 looks like a good option, even though i doubt that lineage is already available for it.
