Hi,
I've got HTC One M8 European version running:
- Maximus HD 12 on mm 6.0 and sense 7.0
- TWRP 3.0.2.0-m8
I've had this phone rooted and running this ROM for like 2 months all fine, until recently i've started to get "bluetooth share error" pretty often. Read somewhere that wiping cache helps. So i went into bootloader/TWRP mode and... performed full wipe instead by mistake >.<
When i rebooted phone I saw HTC logo and then "Android is optimizing apps" info and apps being counted up to 173 (like after system update or so). When it's done, phone reboots and starts over again, and again, and again... until battery drains (battery is also pretty hot during that). The only thing that changes from time to time is that app count is sometimes smaller than 173.
I cannot power it off by holding power button. VOL DOWN + PWR combo doesn't work either.
All I can do is to use VOL UP + PWR and, when screen goes black, hold VOL DOWN and put phone in H BOOT mode. I can see following info:

and then blinks sth about no image and i get message "press PWR to reboot"
So i prepared clean SD card, downloaded "0p6bimg_m8_ul_m60_sense70_mr_htc_europe_6.12.401.4_radio_1.29.214500021.12g_20.72.4196t.01_release_464360_signed.zip" RUU file, renamed to "0P6BIMG.zip"and put on the SD card. When i reboot to H BOOT again i get:

and then on new screen:
!! Image Update FAIL !!
Checking...
Wrong ripped image!
Device halted due to Large Image update fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
When i press PWR phone reboots to H BOOT again and i get the same sequence i just listed above.
What actually happened? Any ideas how can i make my phone work again?
Thanks in advance!

Please help me recover my phone.
Try to flash a new recovery with adb:

When finished, try to flash leedroid again:
Do a full wipe and flash as normal
Another idea i have is factory reset:
1.) Turn off your phone
2.) Press and hold the volume down button and then the same with the power button
3.) Wait for the screen with the 3 android images to appear, and then release the buttons
4.) Navigate with volume button to "clear storage"
5.) Enter with power-button
No warranty for any damage.
did you wipe before flashing new ROM?
I make that mistake more than often when hopping from ROM to ROM
Try it!
I have no idea about the red !
hi don't understand why you got a PB99DIAG.zip on your sdcard???
this is not the way it goes to flash a rom... just need a file called rom_whatevere.zip
pb99diag.zip is used to flash a rru rom (it s a way to do it)
put off from your phone your sd card and clean that file which seems to messed up your device and try with the right one you can find there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
leedroid 2.5 final release
hope this help

Yes i always do a full wipe before flashing a rom. Unless, i just want to update my current rom. Then i would only wipe /cache and dalvik-cache. But before a full wipe, i always backup my apps and data with titanium backup. Finally, i do a complete nandroid backup, just in case.
Which "red" do you mean?
Mat... I dont think he was talking to you, hence the red thing is something topicholder was talking about.
Hi there,
I noticed the back and search physical buttons on my HTC Desire were not working so I rebooted it. However, it now goes straight to the fastboot white screen (or hboot if I power on with vol down) but none of the physical buttons (vol or power) appear to work - I can't select any options. This happens whether the SD card is in or not.
Hboot recognises when I plug a usb cable in (says 'HBOOT USB PLUG').
Can anyone help? Given that I can't actually do anything with the phone I guess I need a PC-based solution - I'm running linux mint 12. I'm willing to try anything at this point as my only other option is to get a new phone!

A bit more info - when I start it up in HBOOT with the sd card in (but not without it), after about 10 seconds a message flashes up really quickly relating to:

is your phone recognised by 'fastboot devices'?
any back up made prior problems?
fastboot oem gencheckpt - this command will take you to recovery from fastboot usb plug screen
@ Martin:
don't worry about pb99xxx.xxx check everyphone does that approx. for 10 sec.
what recovery you have?
@ Jerome: post hboot version
@Both:
Tried different Roms? (it could be coincident as both of you running the same ROM)
best thing will be revert to stock via 2.29 RUU matching your phone (or WWE with goldcard) and test buttons
Hi, I'm on clockworkmod v2.5.0.7 - couldn't tell you the exact version but it's quite recent. I've got a back-up of my sd card from about a week ago when I was using Mildwild before switching to Nick's phone.
Have copied my back-up to a spare sd card (that PB99IMG.zip file was still on there) and that let me get to recovery - the vol and power buttons started working.
I wiped everything on the phone, flashed mildwild and rebooted - but straight back to unresponsive fastboot and HBOOT is unresponsive too. I thought I was making progress!
Tried to flash 2.3.3 RUU??

Hi Martin,
First of all, the flashing up message and the searching for those files is normal. It scans the root of the sdcard for those filenames and flashes them if found. I remember I once flashed something in this way, but no idea why and what I do remember you need both the zip and corresponding nbh file. Do you think it's possible that your keys are physically broken?
Maybe you can flash recovery files using fastboot but I don't know if that'll help. Do you have fastboot via command line, or in your case terminal working? You might wanna check this out, don't know if it helps: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Fastboot
Also, trying a RUU flash might be a good idea too, they're links to them in one of the stickies.
EDIT: More on the scanning for zip and nbh files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
Thanks everyone for all your help - I've been doing a lot of reading up!
I got the 2.3.3 RUU and extracted the rom, renamed it and flashed the zip file hia HBOOT (it would not work via windows, probably because my phone could not get past HBOOT) however, I got:
Main Version is older!
Update fail
then vol +/- to reboot (the vol buttons work for this)
I think my next port of call will be making a goldcard - would this allow me to 'update' to an older version of android?
Thanks,
Martin
So I don't think I can make goldcard from my device because I can't get a CID code out of it. However, I should be able to make one using my friend's Desire - hopefully this will work and I can downgrade to 2.3.3 - should be able to get my hands on that midweek so I'll keep you posted.
At least I'm reasonably confident that this will work (with a goldcard) because the phone appears to be capable of flashing PB99IMGs (as it at least tried to flash 2.3.3 but couldn't because it was an older version than that currently on the phone).
Fingers crossed!
Goldcard bypasses the Carrier ID check, which usually gets done when one flashes RUU.
If the RUU you want to flash is not older than your phones original state, you should be able to install nearly every RUU.

update
SO,
I got hold of my friend's working desire (running cyanogenmod) and booted it with a blank sd card in it. When I put this blank sd card into my desire, it booted up (although the back/search button still did not work). I could also reboot into clockworkmod recovery. However, when I then rebooted the device......... straight back to unresponsive fastboot.
However, I've set up the android sdk on my laptop and fastboot recognises my device, so at least I might be able to do something with it tomorrow when I'm less tired!
So, this means that the rom is OK, and recovery is on there. I think my first point of call might be reflashing hboot....
It has also just occurred to me that the back button might be stuck 'on' (ie always pressed) - this would explain why my phone always boots straight into fastboot when you press the power button.
UPDATE - yes, I can recreate my phone's problems on my friends' phone just by holding down the back button and keeping it pressed ie it boots into fastboot by default (with volume buttons unresponsive until i let go of the back button), and I can get it to boot into hboot by also holding vol- and back when powering on, and the vol buttons are then similarly unresponsive while the back button is down. I think I need to look into this!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right. So I took my phone apart using the guide at tjworld.net -blog -htc-desire-tear-down [if that's helpful for anyone - I can't post outside urls yet!]
and gave the buttons a good clean with Switch Cleaner from Maplins. Put it back together and it was the same.
So I went to fastboot, and fastboot reboot boots the phone perfectly (although the back/search buttons are still unresponsive).
I think that pretty much means the software is fine and I need to replace the buttons, so I've ordered some from ebay ('Genuine 4 Htc Desire G7 Keypad Membrane Flex Trackpad Bravo A8181 Keypad Uk' from Onlinemarket, £15).
Will give this a try when they turn up. In case I'm wrong, could there be any software problem causing this? I can flash a new hboot, recovery and ROM using fastboot so I should pretty much be able to replace all the software on the phone, right?
Cheers
more updates as they come in!

Replaced the button assembly and the phone boots as normal.
The trackpad doesn't work so I've ordered a new one of those too (only ~£5) - guess the whole lot got fried. I can live without a trackpad for a while though!
So I really messed up, trying to follow a guide to S-Off my device I copied a file over with the file name 0P6BIMG.zip . Because my computer was messing up and would not let me copy directly to the folder, so I placed it in a folder within a folder thinking it had to be in the root directory to initiate automaticly when the bootloader is open. Oh how I was wrong.
Now since I have not started the process to convert my HK - Cid_622 device back to stock yet. I was booting into the bootloader to get into TWRP so I could flash my nandroid backup and then it started initiating this update as my jaw dropped.
Now it just constantly boots into bootloader saying loading 0P6BIMG.zip, then Flashing File, then Parsing then Device halted due to large image update fail. Press <Power> to reboot. Which of course puts me back in the boot loader which starts the whole process over again. I tried holding power putting and volume up but I still get the same response.
Is there something I can do? Maybe some magic way to remove the file so I can get into TWRP and flash my backup so I can at least get it working. It doesn't seem to let Fastboot work while it is in this Parsing Device Halted Due to Large Image Fail screen. I really would appreciate any input because I am at a total loss.
Is it in you external SD?
That zip should be removed once it successfully flashes.
HTC One M8
It won't finish it just gets the failed error... Its on the internal sd. I attached some pictures of whst it is doing and the process. Driving me nuts.
It just reboots into boot loader each time and retries the process.

Either way, removing it from your SD will stop the loop.

Up until yesterday I had a great little HTC Desire HD, A9191 with rooted gingerbread 2.3.5, an unlocked bootloader (from htcdev), S-ON - and everything in my garden was rosy... Then I tried to get too clever and pushed a new hosts file to /system/etc while I had su privileges.
This was a big file (540K) which I had been using quite happily on Windows to keep adware at bay. However, I now think it caused the phone to fail because the first time I tried to boot up after the push, it started looping round the boot sequence indefinitely. I am wondering if the IP for localhost, being 127.0.0.1, is incompatible with linux...? Anyway, that's a job for tomorrow because before I can think about draining the swamp there are some "alligators" to deal with...
While this continuous re-booting was going on I found I could still do "adb shell" and run "su" but all my attempts to restore hosts to the original file were futile because at this point the file system was "read-only" even for root. Then I made my biggest error which was to attempt "RECOVERY" from the boot menu...... ( I think my previous attempt to create a recovery file failed and I must have just forgotten to attend to it.)
The boot loader still responds and I am now looking at the boot screen which says:

So am I right in thinking that it's not quite dead yet and still recoverable? I have made a few attempts to position ROM files in the root of the sd card, but so far without success.
Could someone please tell me (assuming it's not bricked yet) what file(s) I need to put on the sd card to stand any chance of recovering. Previously I had downloaded the nearest "stock rom" to the phone's original but this came as a .exe which just compounded my confusion as to what needs to be done.
Here's hoping...

Hey i have a HTC one m8 on o2 in UK,
First of all i am a complete noob when it comes to phone repair/installing software on phones i'm not even sure how to get this 'fastboot var all' people seem to ask for, I've been browsing these forums for a few days and can't seem to work it out so hoping there's a patient person out there that could point me in the right direction.
It is stuck on the main load up screen and occasionally optimizing apps which it goes through this process and repeats.
Was using the phone then it popped up with a message, htc input has stopped working or something like that, can't really remember, said send error report so i pressed don't send, kept popping up so i restarted the phone and it started doing this, if i try and enter recovery mode it gives me a red triangle with an explanation mark.
From what i have been reading i may need to install an 'RUU' from an SD card onto the phone(i have no idea how to do this)

Had the phone since new so the software hasn't been tampered with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Be aware that running an RUU will wipe your phone.
Download this RUU.zip
Rename it by deleting everything in the name of the .zip except for 0P6BIMG (and .zip of course)
Place that onto your ext SD (the card must be formatted to FAT32 ~ if it's 32GB or less, it probably already is) and boot into bootloader
Follow the on screen prompts (vol up to flash ~ power button to reboot when done ~ super easy)
And that's it.
After the flash is complete, delete the renamed .zip from you SD card. If you don't, your phone will try to update again every time you boot to bootloader.
Good luck!
Thanks for the fast reply, worked a treat, appreciated
