hello guys,
i decided, after almost 3 years to mod my note ii.
i want to root now, and then, i don't know when, i'd like to flash a custom rom.
the step i have to follow are:
1) root with autoroot chainfire
2) backup efs
3) flash custom recovery: wich one do you advice? (could you link me how to flash it)
4) flash custom recovery: wich one do you advice? (could you link me how to flash it)
is it correct?
thank you
There is no need to root before installing a custom ROM.
You can install the latest version of TWRP, backup EFS, flash custom ROM, and flash gapps.
This should help you install TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2/general/guide-how-to-install-android-t3310915

Thanks so much for this - I have looked at the how to install the rom but can i ask one question? I tried to install the custom recovery in TWRP which found the device but when installing it ran the TWRP 2.6 and not 2.7.0.1 and when i tried to reboot in recovery i got a bootloop so had to reflash the stock rom. I am not sure if this caused the bootloop but because I dont want to make the same mistake again so can you step me through how to get the recovery ready prior to Intalling the rom in twrp??
first you must be on the 4.4.2 bootloader to flash this rom (flash P605XXUCNE2 with odin) 2 :make a fullwipe 3: flash TWRP 2.7.0.1(LTE) with odin 4: flash xKat v3.1 .The end
So if i flash pixel rom first it will removw root as a feature to regain root acces will I only need to reflash supersu. Also when flashing the kernel since it is being flashed after the rom do I need to have root acces or is it fine as long as I have TWRP? Sorry if this is a dumb question I have never installed a custom rom or kernel.
It's simple, just flash in this order:
1. PixelROM
2. ElementalX(as long as you choose/it uses GZIP compression)
3. SuperSU
You can have custom kernel without root
I flashed pixelrom and when trying to boot into system it says that I have no OS installed
Hi, I would like to install custom rom for my friend. He has Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini GT I 9195 LTE version. From what I've read, I should flash custom recovery by Odin from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678420 , than install custom rom for example: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga.../rom-cyanogenmod-14-0-s4-mini-3g-lte-t3471761 (it's LineageOS 14.1). Before installing custom rom i would like to full wipe(everything possible in twrp wipe section) . Here's my question: Do I need to flash stock firmware(from sammobile 900 MB it's huge) before flashing custom rom or LineageOS has built-in firmware and it's not necessary? Ideally, if you would write me at points what should i do from the beginning. Regards

No you don't need the stock rom unless you want to go back to stock later.
1. Flash the latest TWRP with odin. (Untick reboot option, and pull the battery when you complete the flash, then put battery back in)
2. Reboot to recovery. Wipe system, data, internal sd card0, cache, dalvik/art cache
3. Install the custom rom(& gapps if you want them) as per instructions on the first post of the rom thread and reboot
Hi there
I'm hoping someone can help me out with a few questions as it's been a while since I've played around with a samsung device. I have a rooted s4 mini (i9195) (I rooted it a long while ago), on Android 4.4.2. I want to do a clean flash. Do I need to do an odin flash of anything before flashing to Resurrection Remix? (As this rom is Android 7, and last I remember, when upgrading android versions there's a few extra steps?)
Speaking of Odin, will the standard Samsung USB drivers be fine for using odin?
Also I noted it said in the install instructions for Resurrection Remix to flash TWRP from this thread but it says in that thread please do not use Nougat roms with TWRP at the moment? Surely I shouldn't be flashing that TWRP if it literally says dont flash it to use with Nougat roms?
Thanks
Hi there. I made exactly your same steps time ago (from stock KitKat 4.4.2 to CM13), so it's simple: you just have to prepare 1) TWRP; 2) The ROM you'd like to flash. 3) Odin for flashing TWRP. Old Samsung drivers are more than good, this is all you'll need.
1 - go here and download the 3.1.1-0 TWRP for LTE (don't worry, it works flawlessly even if said that it doesn't on Nougat, this because OP should be updated by the developer but it'll be done when he'll have some free time, i used it for everything and i ensure its efficient).
2 - extract from the zip file the twrp.img file, then flash the twrp.img by Odin; open Odin, click on recovery on low-left corner and browse to the img file, then flash it.
3 - reboot to TWRP, do a stock rom backup and backup even all your data that you'd like to keep, TWRP backups keeps everything except the various documents, MP3s, images, ecc. and if someone should go wrong while flashing a custom rom, let's have a way to restore the actual situation. Then to have a clean flash, be sure to wipe data by TWRP menu (the 3 selected partitions are enough, don't wipe nothing else).
4 - to install a custom rom, now that you're ready to start, follow instructions that you'll find in rom's thread in OP
Happy flashing!
Hello ! I have an A70, I installed Havoc OS and it's.... well I dont like it. I want to back stock rom.
Can I flash stock rom via twrp ? (same way as I installed Havoc or lineage)
Can I flash ONLY system.img ?
My idea is to install stock rom and get root access with magisk at the end.
My problem is I cant find any good informations about that !
All I read is contradictory....
on guy say it's ok to flash only system.img via twrp, other guy say to flash boot.img +recovery.img+system.img and use Odin, never flash stock rom with twrp.
I just want to get back to stock rom and flash magisk again....
any help about the right procedure to install stock rom and flash magisk again ?
thank you....
I don't know about twrp, if you can use Odin it'd be better.

thank you for your answer.
1 - so if I use Odin, I just need to flash AP section ? Or the full firmware ?
2 - recovery will be back to stock too ?
I want to preserve twrp.
3 - I just need to fash twrp right after flash Ap.tar/full firmware ? (without reboot device between the 2 flash)
Right ?
need help to understand how flashing stock rom works (via Odin or twrp).
I already wiped data, system, cache partitions from twrp and now the phone only boot in twrp (the recovery) no system installed.
I just want to get back to stock rom (because I have NO system installed) with twrp which is patched with magisk ( to have root access) simple but I cant find the good procedure...
I am able to install Havoc or lineage, but they doesnt suit me.
I want to flash stock system only.... simple but no answer anywhere...
I can extract system.img.ext4.lz4 from the ap.tar. Then I extract system.img.ext4 from system.img.ext4.lz4.
And cant extract system.img from system.img.ext4 to flash it with twrp. I just miss this step and the answer is nowhere. Like the answer which files can be flash with twrp...
need procedure, every tuto is contradictory....

Flash every file that comes with the stock rom, that's how you get it back. I don't know about root, I'm not rooted.

I don't know of a way to flash stock using TWRP (and preserve TWRP).
Quickest way might just be to:
- Flash back to stock firmware using ODIN in Windows (phone in download mode). This will wipe everything of course, including TWRP (I found).
- Follow the unofficial TWRP installation for the A70 [RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL][ROOT] TWRP for Galaxy A70
