Can the HTC 10 do Wifi on AT&T?

Att only offers Wi-Fi calling for I phones
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

And Samsung devices. Soon all devices will get it that att sells.

It is completely a carrier thing. T-mobile has had it for a while and many places in EU have had it for years. ATT only kept it for the Iphone as a selling gimmic. Once the code for it is released then every device will have it. Im sure it is a great thing for those that will use it. I have a buddy in the middle of Alabama that is chomping at the bit for it as he is stuck using the microcell which we all know is crap lol
It shouldnt be too long.

I just got off the phone with AT&T and they only support WIFI Calling on devices that are available from their own store. so they told me he has "instructions" on setting up the iPhone and LG G4/G5 nothing on the HTC.

HTC 10 Wi-Fi calling Verizon
So I'm in Vermont and get 1x coverage and typically 1 bar. I have been using Wi-Fi calling and set it to prefer Wi-Fi over cellular but drop calls consistently. 2 to 3 times in a 10 minute conversation. Sometimes I will have to dial out 5 times before it continues call in Wi-Fi. I also have an everpresent dialog box that says voice roaming on. I can only toggle data roaming on or off. I'm going crazy. And the worse part is my wife's iPhone 6s performs flawlessly on Wi-Fi calling, but she has ATT. I wish I kept my M8.
Someone, anyone, please help.

[Q] Anybody know if T-Mobile HD Voice works on Note II?

As mentioned in title there is a new feature out that can be read about here > HD Voice News
I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it works for Note II as well. They only list 3 phones on the story, however it doesn't explicitly exclude other phones. Just curious.
I was wondering that myself, my coworker had me call his friend that was on a Nexus 4 and the call seemed to be very clear, but I couldn't tell whether it was "HD Voice" or not since there is no indication of it on either of our phones.
We have the required chip, but I don't think the required settings in the firmware are active.

Did some research found this quote "The new SKU will apparently launch before the network goes live with the LTE radios disabled, but once the towers are up and delivering the juice T-Mobile will issue a software upgrade to enable them. Those who bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may not need a new phone, though, as that phone did come with the dormant LTE radios during its first run. We imagine T-Mobile will issue a similar software upgrade for it"

HD Voice only works, at least for now, on the:
- HTC one S,
-Nokia Lumia 810,
-GS3
GN2 is yet to be confirmed but what we do know is that it only works between T-MO phones and it HAS to be amongst these 3. ****FOR NOW AT LEAST****

If the GS3 can do it then we can do it. It just needs a patch for the firmware to use it. Which will probably come out when we have our LTE radios turned on.
What does it have to do with LTE getting switched on. Current GS3 doesnt even have an LTE radio.

It doesn't directly but when they patch our phone to turn on LTE they will probably enable hd voice also. Radio has nothing to do with HD voice. HD voice is dependent on the sound codec on our phone, but it makes sense to do it when you are already patching the system.
I expect the exynos security patch and maybe even 4.2 before LTE.

Well I can be the optimist and you can be the pessimist. I don't see the point of rolling out two or three software updates in a one year when they can address it all in one big update. The international note 2 doesn't even have 4.2 yet. I bet we see 412 with HD Voice and LTE radio enabled first.
Yup - we'll see. Btw, battery life might take a hit if the LTE radio is switched on. We might not want it on too soon.

My friend has an AT&T Note 2 in an LTE market and he still gets about 16 hours of regular use. I get about 16 - 18 with regular use so we will see. LTE radios have gotten better at using batteries. I remember that the first killed batteries like they were going out of style.
The other piece I wondering about is what happens when the LTE radio is activated in a non-LTE market. Does it go searching for signal in some way like the regular cell radio in a poor signal area. That is murder on the battery.

HTC One M8 does support it and it works great for me on T-Mobile's network. If you are using the stock rom, there will be a little "HD" icon at the bottom right of the contact image when you make a call on VOLTE. It's also only supported with other phones that can do VOLTE, so keep that in mind.
Is it ROM dependant? Do i need to be on stock sense?

I think you are describing "HD Voice" (where both ends of a call use a different codec that sounds better).
VoLTE is where the phone uses the LTE data connection for a phone call (like WiFi calling, but different).
As far as I know, VoLTE is not currently available on the M8. It is not known if a firmware update from HTC can bring VoLTE to the M8, but I sure hope they can.

Note3 supports it which I am not sure if all snap800 SOC's support it. I would venture to say that 801 and beyond will for sure though. But OTOH, knowing carriers and their greed they might advertise some other phone as the first to support it and not enable on a phone capable of supporting it.

Simultaneous voice and data?

Will the Note 4 have simultaneous voice and data? I know the S5 doesn't.
That is a deal breaker for me.
Sent from my SGNote 3
No it doesn't. Sprint hasn't had that since the S3 and single band LTE.
It will likely be a year or more till they get that type of thing up and running on their new phones and it is doubtful the Note 4 would ever have it, because it isn't just a simple software upgrade needed. There are hardware issues also.
That shouldn't be a reason to not buy it though. As I said before unless you are getting an S3 no new sprint phone is going to have that capability.

Ok great, and my phone right now is an S3, and I did not have the info on the Note 2 or 3 but I assumed they didn't have it. My mistake. So they do it also. My point is that no new Sprint phone will do it that has the Tri-Band LTE Spark network. It has to do with the hardware. So if you want a phone that does this you need to get a non Tri-Band/Spark phone. The trade off isn't worth it in my humble opinion because being able to use Tri-band LTE where I live will greatly fix some of the LTE capacity issues I am having right now on my S3.
Until Sprint does VoLTE (probably not until late 2015 to early 2016) this won't be possible. You can still do non-LTE data simultaneously just not LTE.
Let's keep it civil in here guys - don't make me come back for more cleaning or I'll close this thread.
I also moved it to Q&A since it's a question - please post in appropriate sections.
Thank you.

For last month I used about 3 minutes of talk time. Voice is actually not important to me at all but I know when Spark was launched it was discovered that Data/Voice could not be simultaneous and it upset alot of people. One of the unfortunate limitation of Spark.

Just my 2 cents. Any phone on 4G LTE on the sprint network can do voice and data at the same time. 3G you cannot unless it is the S3 because of the SVDO chip which has been discussed by others.

this makes sense that simultaneous data and voice will not work over Spark. If the third channel is one use by 3G, which is use to make the data more reliable. 3G was not possible to have voice and data at the same time on Sprint.
Not that I use voice very often, I can see this being a slight irritation from time to time. Although, you'll be able to use voice and WiFi since they're two different radios.
If I didn't already buy this phone this would be a huge deal breaker for me. I didn't realize I would not be able to talk and surf. I do that all the time. I use my data and phone all the time. I hated having a 3g phone not because of the slow speeds but because I couldn't talk and surf without wifi. How does this affect google maps while talking?

I don't understand your point. I use my bluetooth all the time so I can talk and surf. Why would I need to do one or the other unless the current tech doesn't allow me to do more?
I think in the case of navigation and voice, navigation caches the data it needs and allows voice calls during the process, just don't talk for hours while trying to get somewhere. ..lol

It will work only when you're on 4g. 3g and below on a CDMA network does not allow simultaneous connection with phone and data.
On the up side verizon has the largest and most reliable 4g network.

That's called SVDO, and a few phones from Verizon have included it (with the Thunderbolt and the Galaxy S3 being the major two). It requires special hardware in order to work, and with LTE being so readily available now, it's not something that manufacturers or Verizon consider to be a needed addition. In fact, even with the phones that supported it, Verizon never advertised that feature. They could never guarantee that it would work consistently, so they pretty much ignored it.

My guess is they want to sell more M9 units. So maybe a few months after the M9 is launched and the updated sense is released for the M8 VoLTE will probably be in it.. just my guess though.
It's total bs they stated on Google plus that they'd enable it with lollipop update. I've moved away from HTC as the only for thing keeping me was the front speakers. Also a problem is that the m8 does not play well with t mobiles network and doesn't have 1900 LTE. I've spoken to HTC and they said that it was an advertisement mistake in the spec list that it only has hspa 1900 MHz. So t mobile called and spoke to same person as me who was HTC tier 3 support. Tmobile offered us free new phones and to take the m8s back but my children said they'd just keep their m8s. I said to my children they should accept the offer but of course they wouldn't listen. My n6 stays on LTE while there m8s rarely have it. The m8 is suppose to be capable of T-Mobile 700 MHz but that's going to be so sparse. The next day after myself going through all the steps with t mobile and then HTC after Tmobile calling HTC to verify what I was telling them T-Mobile immediately posted a bulletin telling subscribers to make sure that phones are capable of working properly with the area they live. And that its not corporate store employees that need to know what works correctly with their network in order to cover their @$$. My own thoughts are the m9 will not sell as well as the m8 because the phones look so much alike. We'll see. I've always used HTC phones and made the move away because of this mistake of what MHz the phone was compatible with. The children are happy. So be it. The n6 just works well as it supports any band for connectivity and the development is great. The battery life hasn't been bad as reports have stated for me. I've gotten 6 to 8 hours screen on just as with the m8 so long as I'm on WiFi. Average is 5 to 6.5 on network etc with brightness on auto with n6. And I can actually take pictures and print them which will be one huge improvement with the m9 so hats off to HTC for the new camera module.
