Slow dash charging? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hey all, dash charging has been working fine for the last few days but today I plugged in my OP3 and only got an average of 1500 mA and using gsam, from 33 to 100 was estimated to take an 1h10.
The dash charge in the upper right shows as does the blue led but it's slow. I rebooted, plugged, unplugged and even used different outlets.
Also, it didn't say dash charge when I plugged it in. This might just be a faulty cable or charger I assume but wanted to see if anyone else was having any issues before I contact oneplus for a replacement.

[Q] Charging Takes Forever???

Hello,
So I was at about 10% when I went to bed last night (around 11 PM). I plugged my phone into an outlet charger (the one that came with my old Nexus 4, not the one in the G3 box) and when I woke up (645 AM) the phone was only at 65% charged? I can't imagine that it would take over 7 hours to do a complete charge. Has anyone else experienced this? The only thing I can think of is that my old charger produces less output than the one in the box, but I haven't tested it out yet.
Lou
Try it again with the actual g3 charger so you can know for sure if it's a phone issue or a charger issue.

Over the past few weeks I have been testing all kinds of chargers and cables. I noticed that the G2 charger is the closest to G3 but not as good. The issue is the cable itself. Kopi 20awg with oem charger, g2 will work, charges at the same speed as the original one.

Did your phone stop charging in the middle of the night? That happened to mine on the first night when I used an old iPhone (1000mA) charger. It just quit somewhere in the 60% range. Switching to a higher powered charger (iPad - 2100mA) it charges very quickly. On my desktop at work, the USB3 port I have charges at an abysmally slow rate (prob 500mA or less, and in a lousy reception area so it's burning 100-200 of that just keeping the network alive).
The boxed charger, btw, is 1800mA.
Thanks for the responses. I will try the charger that came with the device overnight tonight and report back in case anyone else has similar issues.

The phone/battery are literally 2 days old. Can't imagine it's the battery already. I will do some more troubleshooting since is obviously not a common occurrence.
Strange

try wiping battery in cwm if helps, and install super charge as some custom build roms are buggy.
My Xperia ZL wouldn't charging from getting too hot in the middle of the night. I would wake up to a very low battery. Between the screen waking up, trying to find a signal, and covering it with my pillow it would get too hot. Haven't had the issue with the G3 yet but I have woken up to the screen on and that stupid battery fully charged message.

my scren doesnt stay on when battery is full. it will light up for a brief period of time and then turns off. the green led stays on.
The nexus 4 charger is probably rated at a much lower amperage 1.2A actually https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_4_Power_Adapter?id=nexus_4_charger&hl=en
However your cable will also play a big role in this. The rating on the cable will determine whether or not it will actually allow that much current to pass through it. The stock charger works great, it chargers in less than 2 hours from 0 to 100%. I only use my nexus 7 charger to charge my spare battery on its cradle which is no big deal because it doesn't need to be fast.
Mine takes about 2 hours and 20 min for 0 to 100%
That charger may also be sending dirtier power because it's older too. I'm amazed at how fast mine charges. I haven't timed it, but it has to charge over 35% in an hour if you start at around 20%. Hell, I have started wirelessly charging with a Powerbot (connected to official charger) at about 15% at night and woken up a few hours later and checked the time and the thing was at 100%.
RESOLVED
OK, this is resolved, seems like the issue was in fact the charger I was using. I used the one that came with the unit and it charged up no problem. At least that issue is solved in case anyone else runs into. Thanks everyone.

This is driving me mad, no more super fast charging?

I charged phone previously and after 70 mins, it was fully charged. Today, left it in to charge and returned after 80 minutes expecting it to be 100% as usual.
But now it was as in the image. What is going on?
And yes, obviously, this IS the factory charger.
Very odd. 13 minutes later, charger is very hot... And not it jumped from 44% to 70%.
But the estimate is still 37 minutes, which seem to be very long time.
I thought the super fast charger is the 45w charger that you need to buy separately?
No, I meant then fast charger, the 25W provided with the phone one.

The charger is receiving an improper voltage from the outlet, either that or it's not plugged in all the way.
I plugged in my Note last night and it started heating unusually, same for the wall charger. Come to find out the wall charger came loose and was halfway into the wall so it was giving an improper charge and making both the phone and the charger heat up. It was reading "fast charging" but not putting the regular ETA of around 50 minutes that it usually takes.
I put the charger in a much better placed outlet and made sure it was in all the way and the problem went away.
This might be the case. I heard the charger or the socket making funny noises so I reconnected it and it went to normal.
I was wondering these days about it and I think the estimated time was wrong... Today I tested it having 80% battery with the original 25W adapter and the out-of-box cable, it took about 15min to reach 100%, but until the 90% mark, the AOD indicates 33min to 100% and it jumped after to 22min and 8min when 97%...
So, IMHO, the problem in with the charge time estimate...

Check that outlet! Sounds like a neutral/ground fault!
Ground wire is acting the neutral return.
All the fast chargers slow down when they reach about 90% charging to keep safe the battery. In any brand of phone.

Wireless charging stops at 100% and wont restart

HI can anyone tell me if there is any way to resolve this. I think is has started since doing the upgrade to Android 10 earlier this week.
I normally put my phone onto the wireless charger before going to bed and I have noticed recently that when I grab it in the morning the battery percentage is sitting around the 90% mark. I initially thought the charger was not able to charge to 100% but on further examination I see that it indeed charged to 100% after I placed it on the charger and then the charging stopped and the phone ran on battery until I removed it in the morning.
I confirmed this this morning by replacing it on the charger and watching it charge (like watching paint dry ). The charger light was blue while charging, when the phone hit 100% the charger light turned to green but after about 30s it completely switched off and so too did the indication on the lock screen that a charger is connected. Removing and reseating the phone started charging again.
It definitely looks to be software related as I did not have this problem last week. I just wanted to ask if anyone here has noticed this and knows of any workaround?
For the record I am running fast wireless charging with the samsung wireless charger that came with my wifes S8, that charger works perfectly with my older Note8. I have also tried switching to normal wireless charging speed with no success.

Unplug the charger from its power source and plug it in again, causing it to 'reboot'. Let us know the results. Note, there is an option to set the wireless charging to NOT be fast during certain hours of the day. I set mine so it charges slowly while I am sleeping - to put less stress on the battery. Your charger may be a little old as well if you got it with a note 8 or S8 - ?

IMO this is a good feature to stop the wireless charger cooking your battery.
Maybe turn down your AOD brightness or something, to use 10% within a couple of hours of being idle is pretty high. Maybe turning off fast wireless charging would extend the charge time so it finishes nearer to when you wake up could help too.
Thanks for the feedback however it does sound like workarounds for an issue that should not be present (apart from rebooting the charger which I will try when I get home).
For me wireless charging should act just like wired charging in that when it reaches 100% the phone should essentially run off the charger now and not use battery at all. Every other phone with wireless charging that I have had worked that way, this is just plain stupid.
Willhemmens its not a couple hours, looking at the battery graph if I go to bed at 10pm and put the phone on the charger it pretty much hits 100% around 11:30 and then is at 90% at 7am, so it is 10% over 7 hours which is ok in my books, but reality is that during this time the phone has another source of power that it can and should use. It did before I applied the Android 10 update.
I have had this issue every now and again, and I found that rebooting it takes care of the issue.
An update. This morning I tried my wife's wireless charger and when the phone reaches 100% it continues to show the charge icon. Put my wife's note 8 into the wireless charger and it exhibited my problem.
So it looks like this is a problem with the wireless charger and not the phone.
Thanks for the answers guys I am of to try buy a new wireless charger
edit - New charger solved the problem.

Question Battery charging slow

Hey guys,
hope to get some help here on the forum. I couldnt find any other thread similar to my problem or didnt found it.
So i got the new Pixel 6 Pro and use it out of the box und drained the battery completely. when i wanted to charge the p6p i noticed that it charges really really slow. it took 1 hour to charge 16%. and 2 hours more to 32%. i left the phone charging overnight and noticing in the morning it was at 52% after more then 8 hours of charging.
Im using the original 30w google charger with the original cable from the p6p box. i also tried with my 30w charger from oneplus but didnt work either. i did a soft reset and a hard reset. left it charging with the phone turned off. I tried evertything.
Some of you experiencing the same problem or got any ideas on how to help?
Thanks in adavance.
Try disabling the adaptive charging when you need to top up before bed, this will slow charging rate so you don't overcharge when you have an alarm set that will be coming up within approx 8 hours
i disabled the adaptive charging option and even the intelligent battery option to make sure it charges "normally" but it didnt help.
you need a charger that supports 30W via PD 3 PPS to get fast charging.
OP charger does not suport either and old Pixel charger probbly does not either as this is first for Pixel phones being able to do 30W
i bought the new original 30 watt charger from google (https://store.google.com/de/product/usb_c_30w_charger?hl=de) and i am using the original cable from the p6p box. i just tried the oneplus charger to check if the google pixel 30 watts charger isnt working correctly

Hmm does it say charging rapidly when using the Google charger?
yes it does but it also says 16 hours left of charging
edit: now it says 1,5 hourse left. i will update after this time
now its stuck at 70% and it says full charged in 11 days ...
Have you tried different chargers or cables? Doesn't sound right
i tried different cables and everything ... but now i contacted the support and they change the phone ..

Adaptive charging, if you read the description you need to set an alarm to wake up in the morning, and the battery will be at 100% at that time or just before. So I guess if you don't have one set then it will take forever or never fully charge with those settings on.
I am still thinking of taking this stupid google charger back as there is no point having it and I had to buy it, than that over my older google chargers charging over night at a snails pace.
Even during the day when I plug either in they both say rapid charging, and old charger and new one 30W give the exact same full charge time estimation
If you can't measure what is going on, everything is useless. Get a power meter monitor, something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D316FHM
I have one for USB A and one for USB C. I literally threw away 3/4 of all my USB cables when I found out they were crap.
Just bought one of theses Anker USB C Charger, 65W .
Max power charging was 13.5W (9Vx1.5A), the same as my Pixel 3XL charger so back it went.
*Edit* After reading the article in Post #18 below it looks like the Phone is the problem and not the Anker charger.
I'm still looking...I miss my OnePlus Warp speed charger!
just to keep you up to date. i got a new one in exchange and it works perfectly ... so must have been a "monday model" (broken battery or something) - i am using the same adapter as before
I just got one of the 30W chargers from Google to give that a go
It charges @18W up from 13.5W on the Pixel 3XL charger, so no real benefit and nowhere near the 30W advertised.
Definitely miss the 65w charge from my Xiaomi which charges in less than an hour!
Tested: The Pixel 6 charges much slower than Google implied
The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro charging is oddly slow despite talk of 30W speeds, taking nearly two hours to fully charge. Here's why.
www.androidauthority.com
for the first time since ive had the phone i let it get to zero and shut down today. Took most of the day to do so, ended up letting netflix play for 5 hours straight and must have been another 3 or 4 hours of tiktok before it died. I wanted to see how long it takes to charge fully. It finally died at 7:21pm and using my pixelbook charger which i think is 45w the p6p said 2 hours exactly to charge to full. Will see if thats accurate or not.

Question Max charge not working anymore?

Hello!
I have been using RM8P for the past 2 weeks and everything was fine, the 65W EU adapter charged it really fast, however today I noticed something. I noticed that when I plug in the adapter to charge, the Maxcharge logo appears and the percentage displayer starts to rise fast, however after 1-2 seconds it slows down to normal charging speed, like if it was only a 20-30W adapter.
Why? How can I fix it? Restarting the phone did not help. I am on the latest OS for EU (3.19) .
Maxcharge logo is displayed but the speed drastically descreased ...
I checked several times while charging and I noticed that sometimes it speeds up and sometimes it slows down... why? Why is it fluctuating ?
What is the battery level when you plug in? My understanding of charging tech is that it is not always full speed from min to max. If you're sometimes plugging in above that throttle level it may go slower.
Then again, I'm not 100% on new charging tech. My RM8 has yet to arrive.
In my experience, it's not the phone but the charger. With my old op9pro it happened more than once, the charger started failing, you could get another 65w rated charger and check with accubattery the power delivered by both chargers. Down here they shipped the phone with the eu charger and a standard American charger rated "65” the eu Nubia charger goes to 64/ 65 watts without issues (I use an adapter to connect it) , the bundled one even though is rated 65 only gives 45w, sometimes 39, which is a bit annoying but it doesn't bother me, as long as I can charge it while having a shower or when I'm having breakfast before taking off, it does the trick, this thing is so good, battery lasts me 2 days
