Downgrading latest .253 Marshmallow to .170 Lollipop - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my Z5P is still stock.
Now I am looking to root it but keep my DRM key using ivoryroot - hence i need to downgrade.
Question is - If I downgrade from the latest .253 Marshmallow to .170 Lollipop using Flashtool; Will I lose my DRM key?

No, downgrading doesn't lose DRM keys. Unlocking your bootloader does.

Oh that's cool - good to know
Not sure if you'd know...
Lastly is it true that if you downgrade from Marshmallow to Lollipop you will get into a bootloop?
I read it on one of the posts when I searched... Unless that person did a dirty flash then that's a different story all together.

The causes of bootloops are varied and many. Having said that, I can't seem to recall whether the Z5P ever had LL. Good luck.

hello flash with flashtool with full wipe you have bootloop ?

Bootloop only happens when i flash .200 and below. Yes full wipe and exclude partition, system and TA. My firmware now is .253 i can only downgrade to .224 without bootloop happening. since the ivoryroot requires .200 i can't backup my drm properly.

Well, this is strange, yesterday i have succesfully backup my drm keys on my E6853, but first i upgrade to .253 only to realize that iovyroot can't backup my keys, but there was no problem to me, i downgrade to .170 and backup my keys and then unlock the bootloader and install romaur, so the firmwares i use are this:
first the phone came with 32.2.A.0.224 / R5C Telcel GSM MX then i upgrade to 32.2.A.0.253 / R11C Customized NOBA and then downgrade to 32.0.A.6.170 / R7B Vivo BR
Maybe i'm the lucky one

[Q] how to update with unlocked bootloader?

Is there a way to update to the latest version 4 with unlocked bootloader? I dont really care if I loose the root or not. The last time I tried to switch to stock from my rooted .145 and update from the phone, my phone "brick" on me. Luckily there is a way to fix the problem.

No, I haven't. I have locked bootloader(yet). But read about it in some threads. Is this just an offer from me... Read the comments.
Ok finally after several research and try I find the following are the easiest method of getting root on the latest version (for people with unlock bootloader).
1. Flash using Flashtool any unrooted version 4 ROM
I used the following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209237
2. Switch off your phone, and boot into fastboot mode. How? When the phone is off, hold the menu button and connect the USB cable to the PC.
3. Using fastboot command, flash the boot image created by Doomlord. Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172885
4. Boot your phone, and enjoy the rooted ARC
Yes kuailan thats the same method I used. Its not just a rooted arc now, with setcpu app you can under/overclock it, and i dunno if any other addons.
Anyway, remind yourself and everyone that once its in that state, never do OTA update as doing that on a bootloader unlocked phone will result in bricked phone. Its recoverable, but requires additional effort. So there's the warning.

[Q] How to back up app data & settings without root and Ultimate Backup Tool?

Hi, everyone. I can't seem to find the solution for my prob, so I've to ask for ur knowledge on this.
Problem:
I'm using Xperia Arc with latest stock firmware without root. And I want to back up my app data & settings before resetting or flashing it.
Attempt:
I've tried Ultimate Backup Tool, but to no avail, just as mentioned in the Ultimate Backup Tool thread that there are known problem with Xperia Arc as one of the Sony 2011 devices.
I've looked through all the rooting methods for Xperia Arc, and I can't seem to find or perform a working root on the phone without flashing it. Naturally, Titanium Backup can't work as well.
Question:
So, what options do I have to back up the app data & settings now? And I'm looking that whether will a flash necessarily wipe the data on ur phone? Can I retain the data even after flashing the phone?
Really appreciate for ur help. Thx~ =)

You can't, it's not possible to access and backup app data while your phone is not rooted. Are you on GB or ICS?
BTW, you don't have to flash your phone to root unless you have to downgrade. In the instance for ICS .587, I only need to flash the kernel of .562, root it via adb, then flash back the .587 kernel. This should not wipe your data.

Thx a lot for ur reply. I'm on ICS .587 too. I was just afraid that flashing would wipe the data. And now this is clear.
Seems like this is the only option that I have, right? Btw, won't flashing it back to the latest firmware lose the root? Bcuz I used to have root, but I lost it when I updated my phone through official update methods. Or is that why I lost root?

You lose root from both flashing stock firmware and updating through official updating methods.... at least for locked boot loaders

Yes, flashing will lose your root, so does updating it via the official method. Flashing the entire ROM would wipe the data, but flashing the kernel does not.

So, does that mean that with unlocked bootloader, I can keep root even after upgraded?

You can't root the latest firmware so you have to downgrade to root. You then upgrade by flashing the latest firmware's kernel which upgrades the firmware to the latest version and also keeps root status.
As for unlocked bootloaders, I can't comment because I have no experience with them

Nope. You flash the kernel of the latest version of stock firmware. Here's an example

Anyways, I tried flashing the .587 kernel on my .562 stock. My firmware version still read .562, so I don't think flashing kernel will update firmware on unlocked bootloader.
As for rooting the latest firmware, you can update first, downgrade the kernel and root. You can keep data this way and get root.

Yeah, when you unlock bootloader, you also remove DRM keys that connect to Sony servers. So Track ID, Playnow and other Sony services won't work anymore. You also cannot use OTA updates as it will brick your phone.

Hmm~ I'm aware of that. But from first impression, it seems like they're not that important, since apps like Playnow are not useful. The only one that I use is TrackID, which I saw Sony published it on Play Store for public download. Sounds like it's fine to lose the DRM key too. Lol.
Arc S kernel and Arc kernel is different. Don't flash or it may cause problems.

If you want to keep drm and bravia backup TA partition before flashing that kernel. You can restore TA after that and get rooted 253 with bravia and drm.

but I still confused the link u show me is for kernel
is that include root and recovery in the zip?
Yes, I dont how doomlord do that. Here my story, I have flash .253 stock ftf and booted fine without root gain, then because of my hand itchy to try doomkernel, I flash the boot.img via flashtool (becoz stock kernel dont have recovery) then I enter recovery to ensure I successfully flash the boot.img file, upon rebooting it request to root ur phone.
But when I enter the recovery there are some error can not mount cache blablabla, I solve it by reflashing the stock. 253 xcluding kernel.

Yup, it includes both CMW recovery and root. The first time you put the boot.img using fastboot, during boot you need to enter recovery by pressing volume up button when DooMLoRD logo shows up, when you exit it will ask to root and just select yes. You should be rooted then

Have you backup the TA partition?
Because I was reading and the method I founded, you need to be rooted to backup, and on FW 253, need to unolck BL to root.
So I don't think will be possible to do the Backup.
Here in Brazil, we did not have the 253 released, but I'll use the MEA 253 released.
I backup my TA from 434, and I'm thinking to restore that bckup on 253, what do you think?
Thanks a lot.
Edit:
One more question, you received update OTA, or get it on XDA like me?
I'd like to know if rootkeeper works here.
Some one have tested that?
Thanks.

Managed to brick my phone. It is now stuck on Sony logo and would not boot any further or go to recovery.

32.3.A.2.33 DRM Backup

With my last xperia cellphones (xperia Z1 and Xperia Z5) I didn´t mind about TA partition, but this time with the E6833 Dual, I´d like to have the chance of storing this partition. When I bought it it came with Marshmallow version but inmediatelly it began updating to 7.0.
I suppose I´m not the only one waiting for the new way of making a temporary root in order to save DRM.
Download flashtool and try to make a TA backup with that. If you cannot, you can always downgrade to MM again with it and then use the TA-backup at that time.

only unlocking bootloader will make your keys lost,
use flashtool Xperifirm , select xperia X F512x, SUZU and select the android verison "store front" / this one is android 6.01 when the device left factory.
flash it
use dirtycow script to xtract TA.img
now can upgrade to 7.1.1 (again use xperifirm/flashtool)
NOW you can unlock your bootloader and flash kernel to have root access

Thank you, YasuHamed, I'm sorry but I'm an ignorant about this topic, my question is: is it possible to downgrade my firmware without unlocking the bootloader, won't that brick the device?

no it wont.
if you have CORRECT STOCK FIRMWARE of the device at hand (EVEN OUTDATED) and you flash it with FLASHTOOL
it wont brick!
but make sure to use FSC script for anytype of FLASHING , you can downgrade your SUZU to android 6 from 7 and then extract drm keys!
