Ambient mode doesn't kick in - Huawei Watch

Huawei watch
AW 1.5
Sometimes ambient mode doesn't kick in, no matter how still I keep the watch or how long I wait. Only a reboot will fix it. On reboot, ambient mode works correctly. The problem will happen randomly, about once a day. It can happen with stock or Watchmaker watch faces.
Settings:
brightness - 1
wrist gestures - off
always on - on
screen lock - off
Phone AW settings:
always on - on
tilt to wake - off
Note, this is not the 'ambient always on' problem. Also, it's not a watchface problem. Yes, all the watchfaces have an ambient mode. When the problem occurs, switching to another watchface doesn't fix it.
Anyone else have this problem?

Someone just posted a bug where his ambient mode doesn't kick in after an alarm goes off until he reboots. Could this be your case too?

I have this too. Been happening about a week. Either an alarm or a timer going off will cause it.

Yes, that's it!
This morning I figured out that it always happens first thing in the morning. I thought it was from being on the charger all night long.
I can confirm this 100% reproducible bug.
Nicholb, did you notice this after the 1.5 update?

Although this is a major bug, there are some relatively easy fixes:
- If you only use the alarm to wake up in the morning, restart your watch after you wake up.
- Try another alarm app (the ones I saw were all pay apps or didn't work).
- For timers, use another app. I recommend MoveUp! MultiTimer.

No, it was working fine after the 1.5 update. Something else must have updated within the last week. I did notice that last night there was an app update to "clock". I'll know tonight if that helped. I've just been rebooting the watch after an alarm goes off as a workaround.

That was it. The update to the clock app has fixed the problem for me.

Alarm Clock Control

So I've had a difficult time snoozing my alarm from my phone since getting the 360. Of course this is at 6am and I'm just fumbling with buttons until the alarm quiets. Problem is I seem to be completely turning the alarm off, which has resulted in me waking up an hour late the last 2 days.
The only conclusion I can reach us the fact that my watch is connected. Is there anyway to ensure I'm snoozing/turning off my alarm from my phone? Am I right in thinking the watch is causing this issue?

The watch and phone have completely separate alarm apps. They don't interact with each other in any way. Has nothing to do with the watch.

It's just strange that all the sudden my volume keys don't "snooze", and nothing is actually showing up on my phone giving me an option to swipe for "snooze" or "turn off".
Seems like the only way to get it to stop is to hit the power button and all that does is turn the alarm off. Have never had this happen until the watch was connected. And at the time it happens my watch is docked and doesn't show anything other than the time and change (normal screen when watch is on the charger. Standard charger that came with the 360 mind you).
Guess it's time to do some experiments and see what's going on.
This might be one of threads that could benefit from knowing which phone and ROM you are using.
On a stock Nexus 5, the Alarm clock works the same since I've purchased the watch. On screen I have the option to Snooze or Turn off the alarm with a swipe.

Note 3 running the same alliance rom v1 and stock clock app that I've been running for the past several months. The alarmed worked literally the day I bought the Moto 360. It stopped working literally the next morning after connecting the watch for the 1st time the day before.
The only thing that changed was using the 360. Guess im.the only one having the issue. Once I get home I'll be able to test it out while on the charger.
Perhaps you can disconnect the 360 tonight and see if you face the same issue tomorrow morning.

[Q] Q: Is anyone using the Smartwatch 3 to wake them?

I had a Fitbit Flex as my silent alarm which worked really well until the strap broke and I got fed up being unable to changed alarms when the Fitbit server went down! So I got my new Smartwatch 3 yesterday and found out the out of the box alarm doesn't work in theatre/cinema mode. Bit of an oversight there Google!
So is anyone using this watch to get them up in the mornings?
I tried AlarmClock Extended which seemed to work last night when I tested it after setting up the watch, but the vibrating alarm didn't go off this morning until I turned on the watch with the button (turning off theatre mode).
I'd set my phone to silent which also seems to se the watch to silent! The alarm still vibrated when I turned the watch back on with this though.
Should the phone be in Priority mode perhaps? Or shall I just not bother with theatre mode and turn down the brightness so when I knock the screen during the night it doesn't wake us with the light!?
I have also tried to use Sleep As Android but it is so impossible to configure I gave up.
I use Sleep as Android (SAA) - it's been easier to configure as the dev has updated it, but still takes some time to learn. You can also use the alarm on the watch which usually worked for me, I use SAA because I can configure the alarm on my phone instead of the watch.
Also, I have tilt to wake off so the only time it turns on at night is if I touch the screen--seems to work for me.
Thanks,
I've just taken another look as Sleep as Android and realised the vibrating alarm on the watch doesn't just do it once, it's actually every few seconds increasing in the amount of vibrations. Doh! Thought it didn't work properly! I'm going to give it a proper go again tonight.
Cheers,
Z.

huh! I didnt know that. might have to give that a go myself...
Well, I tried out Sleep as Android properly last night/this morning and the thing woke me up no problem. Bit of a pain to turn off the alarm on the watch but that is probably for the best!
Goodbye Fitbit Charge
Hi!
I am also searching for a good alarm app. The problem I have is that the vibration is too noisy so I wake up my partner. I have tried SAA and it does a nice gentle few vibrations first, but it is so difficult to stop that I always end up in noisy buzzing...
Any other apps you have tried?
Thanks!

Screen goes black in ambient mode

Hi!
About month ago I have bought an Asus Zenwatch and updated it to latest firmware. Last update that adds interactive watch faces also was installed several days ago.
Yesterday evening I have discovered weird issue that after some time in ambient mode the screen turns off. On tap it goes to normal mode and displays all colors and watch face correctly.
I have tried Reset settings option in Settings menu, enabling and disabling ambient mode from watch and Wear app, reinstalling Wear app and cleaning Play Services data, but it didn't help.
Could you, please, help me with this issue? Maybe this issue can be tracked using ADB?
Also in the Saturday morning I have a trip at town for a long time and the weather was hot. Temperature was about 30 Celsius degrees. Maybe this information can help.
Best regards, Mikle.
It is normal for the screen to go blank after a period of inactivity (about 30 mins), at least it is with mine.
I have the same issue

Screen not turning on sometimes

Has anyone has an issue where the screen won't turn on after using the fingerprint sensor? I can feel it unlock but I sometimes have to hold the power button until the power off/reboot menu comes up which then starts the display up from being all black. Have Magisk beta and Xposed installed so maybe that's the issue?

Is AOD on or off? What happens when it's on?

AOD is on. So what happens is if the phone is on my desk and AOD is showing time, it'll show the notification briefly then just go black(nothing is covering proximity sensor and notification light is blinking). I then usually have to either do the power menu trick I mentioned or just restart the phone. If it's in my pocket on the other hand I'll pull it out and it'll be black with a notification light.
Oddly enough it usually only occurs with Snapchat so I think it may have to do with having snaptools installed?

Quite possibly so. I know nothing about snap face, snap chat, or whatever these social media apps do. Although, you may try clearing the app data and cache on said app to see if it helps. No guarantees though. As is the case with many things android! ??
I've had the same issue ever since I installed, I believe, the nav bar immersive mod. Not sure, around same time. I was able to hurt power button twice for camera and that would pull it up and u could switch back to screen. I don't have xposed or Snapchat, so I don't think either of those are it. It's random when it happens to me.
I've had similar issues. I'm not rooted and have never used Snapchat or AOD. I do use immersive mode for some apps so I've thought that might be causing it. Like stated above, I can get the screen to come on my double tap to open the camera or just holding the phone face down and tap the back a couple times then flip back over and the screen comes on.
I'm also having this issue. Ambient display seems to prevent the issue for me. If I reboot the issue is gone for a period as well. Not rooted but have immersive mode acrive via nav bar hider.

Ok so a little more testing. When Ambient display is set to always on, I have no issue, maybe a slight lag when waking/unlocking. When ambient is set to tap or pick up i get issues, when ambient display is set to off at all times, i have no issue. Plugging the phone in to charge seems to force the issue to happen.
Edit: Seems that even with ambient display off totally the issue pops up. Strange thing is if i unlock the phone and take a screen shot, its totally black.
I to have this happen and like sportytony I use camera to wake device. Sometimes that too takes a bit. Most of the time when it finally does wake there will be a notification that systemui isn't responding. So I wonder if it's related.
Ok, I've been having this issue happen multiple times a day. I use this immersive app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.tsdo.elw
Since I have turned all ambient display options off and made sure that System UI is unchecked in the immersive app i haven't had an issue at all.
Its definitely related to system UI, com.android.systemui to be precise
i used to try to set up Power Nap on this device, but it can't find System UI in app list, make me unable to whitelist it, thus causing same issue like yours,
Screen wont turn on after sleep, since System UI wake up is blocked
I was using hide navbars and had this issue
I uninstalled and never had that problem again
Sent from my Google Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs
Didn't expect all these replies but I'm going to try to untick system UI and see what happens. Thank you all!

Huawei Watch 1 - Android Wear 2.9 - Alarm issue

My Huawei Watch 1 is now on Android Wear 2.9. The only issue I can see is that now if I turn off the screen (press power button to turn on again) then the alarm has no sound, only vibration. With the screen on (not locked) then both sound and vibrate work fine. I need to turn off the screen to avoid accidental touching and wasting battery during the day. I have done a factory reset but still the same.
Has anyone else noticed this? Can anyone replicate it or better still, have a solution?
Thanks
Sounds like significant issue... I will wait to update to latest AW until it is clear/solved.

I don't think it will be solved. I think it's a new feature. Cinema mode now keeps the screen off as well
