I cant seem to find it in the forums, only for the 551ML... can someone help me? I figured out its via Asus flash tool...
Does it matter if i use WW or CN?
Don't go near raw unless you are bricked.
Just unroot, flash stock recovery, sideload stock firmware ...if you phone is working ?

That simple? But if i flash stock recovery, how can i do ADB sideload since i doubt i can boot into CM13 on stock recovery?
Anyway, do you have a concrete guide? something safe i can follow, i see many guides and its kinda confusing.
EDIT: Okay I found something, basically flash stock recovery... from somewhere? I guess its in the zip folder of the firmware im flashing (extract it out?)
then reboot into stock recovery mode, choose adb sideload...
enter commands to adb side stock firmware filename.zip?
profit?
Messing with phones is risky..nothing's ever concrete , the risks are outlayed when flashing custom roms and still applies. Heavens knows what might have happened trying to flash raw for a brilliant example !
That outta the way...
Yup , you going right so far except you need recovery.img if on ze550ml .latest recovery for an example for latest fw
Rename latest fw WW- BLA blah fw for example to MOFD_SDUPDATE and put it in adb fastboot folder.
ADB SIDELOAD CMD after booting in stock rec...>
adb sideload MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip
All risks are still applied to you and you only
Ps, if you bought this phone with CM already on...you need knowledge of running fastboot and adb before even contemplating.

LOL true true, I dont disagree with ya... well i was the one who put that phone into CM13 but i gave it to someone, now im trying to revert it back to stock like since Feb as shes just a regular user and CM13 its kinda unstable for her usage...
Okay i downloaded from asus global website .... UL-Z008-WW-2.20.40.149-user.zip
but inside I only see boot.img and droidboot.img... there's no stock recovery image... there's a recovery folder though
\recovery\recovery-from-boot.p
\recovery\bin\install-recovery.sh
How can i extract the recovery img or... im lost at this part... And im also suppose to flash boot.img and droidboot.img right?

Hello everyone.
Here are my informations:
*My phone: ASUS ZenFone 2 Model ZE551ML
*System build number: CN-2.19.40.16
*My Goal: Change my firmware to WW version.
*What i have tried:
A: Fastbooted my phone to various versions (2.15 , 2.17 , 2.18) via Wugfresh through CMD (boot.img,Recovery.img,droidboot.img)
B: Downloaded the Uprade files (1.08 GB) of different versions. Copied to my internal Drive (Changing the name From WW To CN)
But the upgrade notification didn't show up. I tried everything in every forum. didn't work.
So finally i figured out maybe it is because my build number is 2.19
so i am looking for a way to change my build number to last versions like 2.15
I don't know how to flash system.img (where to find the file and how to flash it.)
I am new to these things so please help me step by step.
Thanks for your time.

Follow this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/how-to-upgrade-cn-version-to-ww-t3101556
1) boot into bootloader and flash Boot.img, Droidboot.img and Recovery.img
2) Rename your UL-Z00A-WW-2.17.40.12-user.zip to UL-Z00A-CN-2.17.40.12-user.zip
3) Reboot normally and upload the zip file to the root directory of your phone.
4) Hopefully, you'll get a notification about an update being available.
As to ADB and fastboot, basically, you use adb when you're connected to usb debugging and fastboot when you're in the bootloader.
Follow step one here to make sure they're setup.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/asus-zenfone-2-flashing-recovery-mode-t3096596
If your adb / fastboot is working, you should be able to see your device when you do "adb devices" or "fastboot devices"
Have you tried this method here ---> http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2015/04/asus-zenfone-2-pre-root-systemimg.html
and for step #5 use these in command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img

Thanks for your answer.
I tried the Fast-boot step by step exactly
but i didnt get the notification for update.
is there anyway to update to a firmware directly i mean to setup the update manually?
please let me know.
the ways in the forum you mentioned didn't work on my phone. (i can flash successfully but i wont get the update notification.)
I think the reason is because my Chinese firmware version is 2.19 higher than WW version (2.18).
that is why i thought maybe if i go back to last update maybe i can do it .
Trust me i have tried many ways.
So it remain with 2 questions:
1. can i update a firmware (2.18 WW) manually?
2. can i change my CN Firmware to last versions?
And if the answer is yes please help me step by step cause this is really my first time.
Thanks for your time.

He has already done this procedure as he is saying in the op that "notification wont show up"... Flashing via adb (sideloading) is the method u can flash the rom manually.. Thats what i am saying... Dont wait for notification... Just flash the rom manually...
To flash manually do this:
Just download the previous CN version (2.18.40.12) http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ZenFone/ZE551ML/UL-Z00A-CN-2.18.40.12-user.zip sideload it via adb and then follow this guide (see #5 changing CN version to WW version) http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/asus-zenfone-2-flashing-recovery-mode-t3096596... If u still dont get any notification just flash the rom and sideload this rom via adb...There is no need of waiting for notification... You will be flashing the rom directly so you dont have to worry about notification and all... Please see first how to flash via adb... flashing via adb is the only option i see and dont use any WugFresh or anything...Just install adb and asus drivers on ur pc... Follow the steps i told u and i think u will be on the required firmware

Hey There
Yes finally it was done.
Most of your helps made me successful. Thanks
First i used fastboot to change img files the the WW version (had i not done that adb wouldn't work.)
Then i used adb to manually update the firmware
thanks so much
just one final question:
Will i get the next WW updates automatically like before or i need to download the manually from now on?
Thanks again

Than i still have twrp installed.. (Tried this a long time ago..) and than i cant install the ota.. Is there a zip with the original recovery..? Retue
My recommendation usually is not to flash twrp at all. Just use fastboot boot when needed. Disadvantage is that you don't have it handy if you're not at your computer, and you need the cable any time you want to start twrp.
Original recovery is contained in the stock ROM archive. Just flash only recovery. You can take the command from any guide how to flash stock ROM. But you need the one that is delivered with your software version. That's why I recommend not to flash twrp, if you want to do OTA it can be a hassle to find the right original recovery.
When you flash the original ROM it will have the stock recovery which will bring back your ota ability. Stock recovery is flashed by, fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Hi,
I have the flickering screen problem with my phone and it is out of warranty so i can't send it back to repair.
I tried upgrading to the latest firmware, tried factory reset, wipe cache, installing google launcher, enabling the HW thing in developer mode and nothing worked.
I read that WW_2.12.40.11 version doesn't have the screen problem and i want to try it, but i wanna be sure i'm doing it the right way.
1) I read that i can't just put the wanted firmware in my phone and install the update but i must also flash the matching recovery to flash the wanted version - is it true?
2) Can i downgrade straight from my version to the lower one because i think the other way around, i need to have higher version for upgrading to the higher version i now have.
3) Where can i find the adb driver for this?
Thanks
You can downgrade via ext sd card using the downgrade version from asus > 52.20.40.196 LP which when installed , reboots to 2.20.40.196LP
When putting WW-UL- 52.20.40.196.zip.zip ,make sure to put an extra .zip on the end in file manager or in sd from pc first and reboot.
If you then put WW-UL-2.12.40.11-user.zip.zip (extra .zip) on sd or in file manager . You might get that to give you notification after a reboot too. Although i have not tested to downgrade that far .
You must use the first 52.20 blah blah fw to initially downgrade first though. Ignore this and you are liable to brick. Here >

OK, it's weird, i did flash the 2.12.40.11 recovery.img to the phone using adb and it was said in the console that the process completed, but now when i enter recovery mode it still shows me 4.21.40.223 version.
OK, I did downgrade with your method and it works great, but when i try to downgrade fro that version to the version i want to try i get error that i cant install the package over the existing newer version.
Just to inform.

If you want to downgrade to such an old version, find the .raw file of that version (search here on XDA) and flash it via Asus Flash Tool.

If you have all the img partitions you can always try installing via fastboot commands but i really recommend using a raw with Asus Flash Tool...

Hi, thanks i'l try that.
does it matter in what order i flash this 3 files?
Edit: If i already flashed the ROM can i just flash the boot.img and droidboot.img or do i need to do the whole process including flashing the ROM again?
Is your screen flickering problem like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRuxTefNcKw
If its like that I was told its a LCD hardware problem which gets fixed by replacing LCD.
Update:
Well, I installed firmware 2.12.40.11 and it worked fine for several days but then the screen started to flicker again.
i started to update the devices with OTA updates and then i saw that in firmware WW_2.20.40.174 the screen didn't flicker.
i had further updates and then the screen started to flicker again.
i tried to flash recovery.img, boot.img and droidboot.img but not the device only enters fastboot mode but when i try to enter normal boot or recovery mode, it only comes back to fast boot mode.
any suggestion what should i do to unbrick the phone?
Thanks
Ok, lve been having a huge problem with my phone. I accidentally managed to brick my phone by wiping everything and the only thing that remains on it is the twrp and the bootloader. Ive been trying forever to find the correct zip file for my phone and whenever I try to flash it in twrp, it says that it has an invalid zip format.
So lve started to wonder if l can install some other custom ROM on my phone and somebody told me that LinageOS does not support my device. Is my phone able to work with omniROM, Resurrection Remix, or anything else that isn't stock?
If not, then can somebody please help me get the stock ROM back on my phone?
My phone is the XT1922-9 US unlocked model btw

TWRP can't install the stock firmware like that. You unzip it first, then flash it using fastboot from your PC. Here's your firmware; direct link.
OK, l was looking at another guide and lm not sure about the part where you put all the commands into fastboot then it then it starts flashing. Whenever l extracted the zip folders, the files didn't match with the commands.

That's normal. Read the flash file inside the firmware that you unzipped. It'll say what needs to be flashed and in what order. The commands change with updates. Never rely on a script. Always type it out.

So where are you stuck?
Let's go step by step:
So you have unlocked the bootloader and now you have the stock boot img for you rom patched?
Have you tried to install the patched img through adb?
Fastboot flash boot nameofimg.img
Make sure is the patched img.
Once you do that you have to go to magisk web site https://******************/ download the lastest apk.
Install remember to allow your browser to install unknown apps.
Once that happens magisk Wil tell you that it needs to install some extra things let it do it and it will reboot.
I know you said you tried it but in this guide you also get the patched boot img.

Place the boot.img in the fastboot folder file. What I had to do since I had downloaded this fastboot zip but it was two in one, forgot the name but I had to put the boot.img into the file folder of fastboot so when I open adb or whatever it will detect the boot.img file.
As Yelloman said you do have to put the img file in the Fastboot folder in order for it to transfer the img to your device.
