[Solved] Phone thinks USB is always connected - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Update/Solution: After various reboots, factory resets and the original rom restore the problem mysteriously solved itself
Hi,
I have a massive problem.
The phone started thinking USB is connected, and always shows the "USB for charging" notification.
I need to turn it off, plug in usb, start it again to make it charge
And much worse: when I remove the USB, it keeps a wakelock, because it thinks USB is still connected.
running CM13 nighly built on the 16th.
Wiping cache did nothing
Edit: Factory reset did nothing either
I really hope you have some idea, else I have to factory reset and send it in for replacement
Thank you all

[Q] Strange issue with not charging and not detecting - USB device not recognized

Hello all.
This is more of a solution that I will post, but also a question - why.
So, here's my story.
I purchased an unlocked maguro yakjuux 4.0.1 GSM Galaxy Nexus, after playing around with it, I decided to unlock the bootloader and root it - no big deal. Got an OTA update that upgraded my phone to 4.0.2, however broke my NFC ability, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Flashed 4.1.1 JB (Official stock image).
Everything worked fine, until one glorious day it stopped detecting as removable storage. Upon googling, I found that people had similar issues with custom kernels and the "fast charge" USB charging option, however, as I am using the stock kernel, this did not apply to me.
I unplugged the Nexus, brought it over to another computer, plugged it in, and got "USB Device Not Recognized" - "device malfunction" - no media connection (data transfer) and also, it stopped charging as well! It just charged via USB on my other machine, but no longer.
Brought it back to the other machine, and yep, device malfunction, no charge no mass storage removable device.
I thought about trying to mount the storage under my custom TWRP recovery that I flashed along with the Stock JB image, nothing.
Pulled out the power, battery, plugged the battery back in, and then the micro-USB cable. And behold, it shows the "Chaging" image (White battery symbol that you get when you charge via AC/USB power with the phone off). I thought that the situation was fixed.
Restart - plug in - same thing! How the heck is it NOT charging (note, I waited for it to charge with the phone off, so the battery DID charge) over USB power (and AC power) with the phone on?
This lead me to believe that there was something up with the phones software.
I loaded up TWRP, made a backup and then was ready to revert to stock (wipe - factory reset), Then I wiped the cache partition, and the Dalvik cache.
I then thought, what the heck, why not reboot and give it another shot, and it worked! The phone started charging and detecting again!
Why? Why did wiping the caches fix it? And furthermore, what happened?
So to anyone that has a similar issue, perhaps a Wipe of the cahces (both Dalvik and regular cache) might fix it - if you have CWM or TWRP, if not, I think you might have to do a factory reset.

Gran Duos won't boot, restart on logo but works with usb recent flashed firmware

Hello guys, hope anybody here had this problem and was able to solve it.
I have a GT-I9082L from a friend here.
The phone won't boot, he was using the phone and suddenly it got crazy and started vibrate non stop.
When he tried to turn his phone on, it goes to the samsung initial logo (the one that display the model, at the very start), and reboot. It keeps doing this.
So I decided to flash the stock firmware via Odin, it was sucessful. The phone was working fine while it was with the usb plugged in (right after I flashed the FW).
When I unplugged the USB, the phone restarted and came back to the same problem.
I decided to flash again, same problem. It keeps running just fine but as soon as I remove the usb cable, the same thing happens, reboot and reboot.
I think the phone is not being able to keep the files in the internal storage. Somehow when I unplug the cable, it seems to erase all files inside.
Does anybody had the same problem? Or somthing similar?
What should I do?
Works on any power source
Guys, when I plug any power source it works. I think it is not being able to keep the energy from the battery. But the battery seems to work fine since when I plug it the battery icon shows as charging correctly.

Phone not charging or connecting to PC without recharge

My ZE551ML has recently stopped charging or connecting to my PC unless I first plug it into power and restart it or charge it when powered off. I've tried a factory reset which did nothing to fix the problem. Does anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried a hardware reset including wipe cache partition? http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1011956/
Do you have a different USB cable to test with?
Sincerely,
ASUS_USA
I've tried several cables as well as wiping the cache. Still the only thing that works is to restart the phone while it's plugged in

HELP!!! Phone turns off during use and will not complete boot unless pluged to ...

Phone turns off during use and will not complete boot unless plugged to charger even when the battery is almost full.
This error started last night after I did factory reset because of observed phone lag. I did mistakenly "wiped internal storage" but got the alert of "no OS during reboot", so I restored from my backup from SD.
the phone started properly but went off during initial setup and will go back off each time I tried turning it back on. I thought it was battery so I plugged it to power.
it did boot but will go back off once I have few touches on the screen.
I had to leave it plugged to setup my accounts else it will go off.
I'm using its Wi-Fi to send this message via my PC because any 2 - 3 touches will switch the phone off.
once it does that, it won’t even boot to bootloader before it goes off again unless plugged to power.
what I do to solve this please??
Problem has been solved.
It was actually the battery. I got a replacement and the device is okay now.
Thanks.

Phone can't connect to pc, bricked

Hi users, recently I wanted to go back form miui pie to oreo using this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/help/how-to-revert-miui-10-pie-to-miui-10-t3940244
I had some problems with flashing, phone got disconnected from pc during fastboot flashing (loose cable) and after reconnecting I couldn't flash anything so I restarted the phone. Now all I've got is black screen (the backlight works but I can't see anything) I can restart the phone when holding power button and doing the combination of power up and vol+, but it's the same. If I connect the phone to pc in this conditon nothing happens, I can't hear any sound indicating that phone is connected, nothing in device manager, I even disconnected the battery and tried the edl pins but it's the same result, pretty weird. Can anyone give me any hint?

Yeah, but the point is, you can connect to pc and flash things and I can't do anything, I suspect my computer fried usb board or something on the motherboard bc it's impossible I can't get qualcomm hs-usb loader 9008.
As it turns out, after rebooting the pc, it doesn't boot anymore. Phone doesn't work and pc. Coincidence? formatting pc was needed (pc works now), could it be a virus or my power supply simply gave too much voltage to the usb? I was doing everything during the storm, y'know, thunders.. I don't know anymore, I tried even connecting to a different pc and the result is the same. I can't do anything on my phone, could it be broken usb board?
EDIT: It connects now in edl, I was shorting the pins incorrectly (can't touch the ground [shielding] while shorting the pins). Pls close this thread.
