What's the usual turn around time for custom roms after source code release?

Finally managed to amass the motivation to install a custom rom, but with GingerBread source just released, am I better off waiting for the various stable homebrews instead of installing something like the latest version of LeeDroid? (don't want to repeat the process again in a few days). How long does it usually take for the community to put out something fully functinal and reliable?
Cheers.
*bump* *bump*
There's already Oxygen which is based on the Gingerbread source code

Still WIP but that's probably the best there is until HTC release something

Official Cyanogenmod 9

As the title says the HOX is finally getting an official Cyanogenmod release , maybe official CM10 is on its way
Well I know there already is custom roms but officiam things are always special.
Here's the link Official CM9

What is DISCONTINUED and UNOFFICIAL?

Guys, wanted to know what simply means when a Rom is DISCONTINUED, this simply means that it has reached final release? Or that it was not completed and was abandoned? And UNOFFICIAL? What you guys have to say about it? Among these doubts also like to know when a ROM is in its final, fully stable. Thank you!

DISCONTINUED means that the developer has stop working/support on the ROM... Idk unofficial means...
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda app-developers app
UNOFFICIAL means the ROM that doesn't goes up in get.cm (Official CyanogenMod Download Site) or Official AOKP site, usually for unsupported device by the official CM Team/AOKP Team/Any ROM that has gained popularity but isn't maintained by the official team.
...
Thanks.

Nothing is prime time ready (imo), but your best best is to work with Evervol (and look in the thread over in Development). Takes less tweaking to build, since they still support the inc. CM takes a bit of tweaking since they dropped support, and I haven't had the time to update my instructions on how to build it.

Post-Cyanoggenmod t999 d2tmo

Hey Folks,
First timer here. I'm a refugee from the cyanogenmod boards. I'm a novice at this but did manage to root and install twrp and use the cm nightlies for a couple of years. I own the S3 t999 and have been using d2tmo on Metropcs (NYC) ever since cm10. I know the d2tmo is the tmobile but it has always worked for metro pcs.
Anyway, sometime in mid December, I foolishly updated to cm14.1 from 13.0-20161118-nightly-d2tmo without realizing I was actually upgrading the android version. As you can imagine, without upgrading the gapps, my phone went bonkers. I was barely able to get it back to working order. It has not been the same since and as others have noted, all the cm13 nightlies for d2tmo from cyanogenmod are no longer there and obviously there will be no more further improvements of cm14 . Those last nightlies are too buggy for me, even with the correct gapps.
So my question is, what are my options now ? Are there alternate projects that work like the cm builds ?
So SlimRoms has some builds. Would these work like the CM builds? Would I just install it from twrp , does it matter that I'm going from a CMbuild to a SlimRom ?
I'm looking for something that will continue to improve, easy to update.
Thank you any feedback, sorry I could not post links

Thank you very much anil2653. Very much appreciated.
I'd still like some options moving forward tho, if anyone can speak as to what they would be, that would be great .
