Brown screen - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Why does the screen look brownish when turned off? (Under direct sunlight or lots of light environments). On other phones it looks all black when display is not on.

Can you post some picture (if camera can capture the effect)?
Mine looks pitch black when off...

Sorry I forgot to mention that you can see that during the day when outdoors or under direct light source. If you are in a dark room at night it looks black but if you have it in your car during the day and driving around, it looks brownish when off. I will take my other phone with me and take some pictures to show you.

I just tested it out with direct sunlight on the screen and my looks fine. Just plain black.

A little lighter (logically ), but in no way brown, reminds me of the look like my old Galaxy S4

ALL Screens with AMOLED look brownish/dark greenish when off and when looking from an angle.
Totally normal.
Thread can be closed.

I guess we have different eyes then
Never noticed this in a few years while using Samsung Galaxy S (first gen.) and I still don't notice any color change on OP3 no matter how hard I look. Even if I put it side by side with my previous phone with IPS.
Will wait for pictures, now I'm really interested to see that tint.
And will also try taking some pictures of my own to have something for more objective comparison (different color value of pixels).

I've got a similar issue I guess, the right side of my screen shows dark colours lighter than the left side of the screen. The left side looks normal.
It's noticeable when you have dark mode enabled and you pull down the quick settings toggles, but it kinda messes with me sometimes ????

That's sounds like a faulty screen... Same color should look the same everywhere on the screen.

I guess I'll RMA it when the device has a bit of wear and tear. It's funny lol every dark colour has a slight gradient

Black spot on screen

Whenever my screen displays a black color in a certain few spots, you can see a weird black spot underneath that looks like oil leaking into the screen. You can only see this when the screen is dark and everything else works fine. Do you think this will be a big problem?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
All amoled phones have that. It looks like an ink spots or blotches. You can only see it in a pitch black room. Its not a problem and shouldn't be noticeable during regular use. You can get an app called LCD screen test if you really want to see the blotches in a dark room
..but I wouldn't worry about it!

Thanks, I was a bit worried that it might cause hardware problems in the future

Yellow screen tint

I'm not sure if this is just my phone or its like this on everyone else's phone.
The screen has a general yellow tint throughout the entire screen when viewed in portrait mode. This generally is ok with me if it's even throughout.. However when I turn the screen clockwise to the landscape mode, and there is a clear white band without any yellow tint approximately a quarter of an inch wide on the left side of the screen. If I reverse the orientation such that I turn the phone 180 degrees to the other landscape mode there is another white band but this time only an eighth of an inch or less.
You can test this out opening up the browser to Google since there is a lot of white in that Web page.
Please let me know if it's just my phone or an issue with the nexus in general. I've also tried different rooms and kernels without any differences.

It's defective. Some color misrepresentation is normal, but white bands are not.
Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure if it's a software issue as the band is not there in portrait mode, and only in landscape. And that also changes from landscape in one orientation as compared to 180 degrees in the other direction.

In my eyes yellow tint is what you want. Blue tint means the display is of poor quality,

Preference. Cooler displays and warmer displays. I prefer cooler.
Problem isn't cooler or warmer display. It the fact that when I turn the screen to landscape there is a section on the left that is pure white without the tint.. And it not there when it's turned back to portrait mode.

I see. Well it sure sounds messed up.
Understand it could be a software issue but any sort of banding can't be good might be better if you just sent it to the service centre

You can fix the yellow tint with franco's kernel.

I was also having this issue but after I flashed MiNCO ROM this issue disappeared.
I suggest you to try this ROM it comes with Franco kernel.

If you're talking about the individual pixels that stand out, then you may have a few stuck pixels... not dead pixels... stuck pixels. This is indicative of a damaged and/or defective panel. Truthfully, other than an RMA or replacing the panel, there's not much you can do about this.
However, if you're talking about the black splotches on the screen, that's a frequently occurring anomaly common to OLED displays. It's called miura, and it's perfectly normal. It's not a manufacturing defect and it's not a sign of damage to the panel. Furthermore, it should only be noticeable on a completely black screen and in a nearly pitch black environment, like in a very dark room.
For your sake, I really hope you were talking about the splotches and not the funky pixels. I hope this has been informative and/or useful/helpful. Take care and have a good one man!

Dirt under screen?

Guys I noticed something really annoying where as when there is a white background application like play store, WhatsApp, even xda I could see some particles that are not moving when I'm scrolling. I thought it was screen protector so I removed it, cleaned the screen and I could still see these particles which I guess they are dirty. Our are they something else maybe screen is damaged? And if it's dirt how did it get in there? It's only a month used.
If you could try it with me on your note 2 that would be great.
Put brightness on maximum no auto. Open play store and look closely and scroll to see any stable Black dots.

If you mean that white things aren't really white like other devices and somehow has black spots, than thats normal I guess.. I have the same thing.. that annoyed me for a while but I became used to it.
It might be something to do with non-Pentile amoled screen.

Yes. And not only the whites any other bright colour like here in xda u can see black spots, very tiny but plenty that they are obvious. I just want a confirmation if that is dirt and not my screen is faulty somehow.

How to fix pink pixels

I had a pink line running up and down my screen on the right side which was awful on white screens. I noticed a lot of people have also been complaining of pink blotches or something of the sort.
I did a little something most commonly used on TV.
go to dialer and press
*#0*#
it'll take you to a test screen.
press on red, blue, green on the top and see which pixels need to be re learned.
keep the phone on each of the 3 color screens for a few minutes each.
it should start to fade the pink away
if it doesn't, repeat.
normally it's the red where the pixels are most noticeably out on.
give the process and repetition some time. it should seriously help get your pink screens right again!
my pink line is gone!

Ive got a pinkish hue across the bottom. and this doesnt appear to be working on cyanogenmod for me ("Connection problem or invalid MMI code")
Is there any difference to just leaving a full screen pure red, pure green, or pure blue (255,0,0 , 0,255,0 , 0,0,255) image on the screen, or does it do some fancier other things in the background?
Alternatively, is this hardware or software based fixing/learning? If I revert to stock, run this, then return to cyanogenmod will it still be fixed?

Just flash a Stock Based ROM (much easier then Odin) and then run the codes. Yes it should fix it when you flash back to CM hoping that this fix is a true fix. I am also guessing that the codes do a little more than just holding a colored image on the screen. Might be wrong on that but who knows.
It's proprietary Samsung service mode. Only works on touchwiz roms

Glad to hear you were able to fix the issue! I had a vertical pixel width line on the first gs4 I got before I exchanged it. Although I am pretty sure that mine was a hardware problem because it was always there, even when in the bootloader and startup animations.

yeah so was mine. this is a lot like the color code pixel reset on plasma and LCD TVs.
and yes it must be touchwiz because it's a code for that software. I am not sure if Cm has one yet

pink pixel when you get a screen problem then you just think its display problem and change the display with same model so you can solve pink pixel.
