Hello l. I don't know if this is the right place to post this but here goes. 2 days ago , my kindle fire HD 7 5th gen updated to OS 5.1.4 on its own and now I cannot root my device, so I went on YouTube and watched rootjunky's firmware restore and unbrick video so that i can learn to restore my tablet to 5.1.2 so that i can root. I did adb sideload and then the video said to unplug USB cable and press power button, so I did. And then after my tablet won't turn on at all. I tried charging it for an hour and pressing the power and volume bottom for 30 seconds and it still won't turn on. Does anyone know what I can do? Is there a way I can fix this? Please help me

Please help. Used the one-click to install, had issues with my computer finding the Kindle. I restarted the Kindle, however, now the Kindle immediately shuts down when I attach any USB cable (wall cord, factory USB, or USB). I am able to power up only when the USB cable is not attached to the Kindle. Has anyone seen this before? What can I do to fix this?
The Kindle works fine when not plugged in. I'm leaving it plugged in overnight to see if it allows a charge. I've tried the hard reset (no change), and using the factory cable (immediately shuts down). It's strange, because the Kindle is aware of a signal when I plug the cord in, so I hope that I'm right in thinking that it's not a hardware issue.
Any suggestions to fix this would be most appreciated.
Thank for your help.
I saw a similar situation a while back. The user had a demo KF2.
If yours is a demo, that may be why.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a demo? I purchased the Kindle new through Amazon.
UPDATE: I left the Kindle plugged in overnight, and it fully charged the unit. This has to be a software issue, I'm thinking. Is there a way to perform a software reset on this unit without using the USB?

Six quick presses on the power button should start a factory reset on the default software. I never tried it myself while I was on the normal software.

Just tried, all it's doing is changing the lock screen. Am I doing this right?
If you have normal use of the device while unplugged, just go to Settings > Device > Reset to Factory Defaults

Yes tried that too. Lost root, but no luck with usb access.
Heya guys! I just got my kindle fire 2 today, I had this same problem with my previous kindle as well.
I have a fastboot cable but it serves useless at this point. The kindle will not turn on at all; no screen, no power light, nothing.
My guess: I f**ked up on flashing the bootloaders
My solution: ???
Ideas or a fix? I'd rather not call Amazon (again)
If its hard bricked you can do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415870
Some insight from the original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391047
This is usually above what most people can/are willing to do to fix it though. If you do get it hooked up and need to know what to do next, look at the original thread toward the last pages, it tells the command to run. Or see if kurohyou will fix it, but he seems busy with college.

Hello i have the same problem... My Kindle Fire HD is bricked, not turning on - black screen, led lights not flashing. Is there any other way to fix the problem without soldering? Thanks for help!
Unless you want to lose the data and send it into amazon for a free replacement, then the answer is no. Also you said you are on a HD, the contacts on that model haven't been mapped yet so we really don't have a way worked out to hook it up to a sdcard reader yet.

I had tried to install recovery and boot thing and that never worked out so I tried kindle fire utility to install fire fire fire but then everything went black except for green light so then I held it down till it powered off and now it does nothing even when I try to turn it on please help or else I'm dead by my mom
There you go.
This is for the FIRST GENERATION KINDLE FIREs.
If you use any tool on this forum, your device becoming a brick was inevitable. This is not the right forum, so do not blame the developers.
Good luck retrieving it.?

I don't know how old you are or if you have a soldering iron but there is a way to fix it, I can provide the rest of the instructions he didn't add yet to flash the device. Here's the link to the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415870
But if that is way above what you can do, if it hasn't been over a year since you purchased it just call amazon and tell them it won't then on and you can send it in for a new one for free.

Now it have black screen, no led its working, not charging (was fully charge before I start) not responsive at all. I try to hold reset for 15s, 30s, 60s and nothing not switch on. Did I permanently bricked?

Why specifically do you need to reboot? (Audio issues, freezes, ?) It might make a difference in the finding the right person to diagnose. Does it sleep or does it stay on overnight?

yes the fire tv goes to sleep but in the morning The fire tv is non responsive cant do anything with remote no lights on front and blank screen.
Try using CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your bluetooth keyboard.
I found it by accident -- it will actually reset the Fire TV instantly.
I've had the same problem on both my unrooted devices.
I usually reboot using the remote (hold down the main clicking button + play)
Is you firetv usually idle with kodi running? i always have kodi running when this happens
I don't have a Fire TV, but I have had this problem with my Fire TV Stick, which was hooked to my Samsung TV and now my Vizio TV. Every time I go to use the Fire stick, I have to unplug it from power and plug it back in. It is very annoying. I don't get any messages, just a black screen.

I have the same problem. It seems to be getting worse. Pretty much everytime i use it it happens.
This happens to me as well. When plugged into my VIZIO tv, and running Kodi 17.2, the Fire TV will spontaneously enter a reboot cycle and will remain there until I unplug the power, wait 2 minutes and plug it in again. I have the new Fire TV 4k (hanging dongle), but this also happened when i had a quad core Fire TV Stick.. my original Fire TV Stick (with Voice Remote) continues to operate without issue to this day, albeit much slower since Amazon removed the Youtube app.
Oddly, the same device does NOT suffer from this issue if I plug it into my LG tv... Could it be an issue with the HDMI port (Port 1 (ARC) that I am plugged into??
Glad to know im not alone. Sometimes it will last for days, sometimes not.
I do use "advanced task killer" and "fast reboot" to kill kodi, netflix, firefox etc when Im not using them.
Guys, i used to have exact same problem and luckily was able to fix it. In my case as soon as the aftv goes in sleep mode it reboots in recovery mode . So because i have the TWRP customer recovery the box is not able to apply that update because is not the stock recovery. the only way to get it back to home GUI is to reboot the box from recovery. That was extremely annoying for me. A while ago i used to block the updates from amazon.com by using opendns, but stopped using it so the box becomes open for updates which automatically get downloaded on the box. Because im rooted there is a easy way of blocking the updates on the box itself by using Method 1 http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-block-software-updates-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick/. However this will stop working if you factory reset the box, if you do so you'll have to apply the blocking procedure again.
After the blocking is done just upgrade the box to the latest prerooted firmware from rbox and you're set. this is the link to the latest pre-rooted custom firmware for aftv1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/prerooted-stock-images-t2882337.
i hope that helps.
To add to stutunaru, Method 5 is equally important to apply through TWRP, after a fresh ROM flash and before the first full system boot.
