Haven't seen any other reports of this so I guess it may just be me, but when the latest CM update came out on 6/19, I installed superSU and flashed the latest update of CM and since then I've had intermittent problems with google services eating the battery on my phone.
It'll last for 30 or 60 minutes then go away but during that time battery app shows google services using 60% of battery, and it is draining around 1% of the battery every other minute. The only app I downloaded since the update was Hulu and that had already been on my phone, I just reinstalled to see if casting would work.
Anyone have any insight?
Known issue, but my issue had stopped (for now at least) since the latest GServices update (9.2.25 (036-124593566) but that might be a temp result of the update, only time will tell but it has been about 4 days.
The only way I have found to quickly stop the draining is go to the app details and force stop services. This will reset it to normal power consumption...until it starts again (no idea what triggers it).
I'm running 9.2.56 (a newer version?) Issue is happening now. Didn't give me option to force stop services in app settings though.

Sorry must have been a typo, running 9.2.56 (036-124593566)
When this issue started to occur I started using this app to quickly get to the App Info to force stop it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.weberdo.apps.serviceinfo
I should have added that in order to Force Stop GP Services you need to disable it as a device administrator (which will disable Android Device Manager for that device I believe).
I had the same problem. Then i remove the update of g play services, i buy greenify donate version with xposed, i ibernate g play services. Now i haven't this problem

Dear Community!!!
So Days ago i upgrade my Xperia ZL to kit kat, everithing ok a couple days, fantastic.....but, was suddenly my phone without battery, the problem? google play service was draining the 85% to my battery. When i upgrade to 4.3 firmeware i had the same trouble and then i maked to flash again. Also, this time i just did a factory reset and then everithing ok a couple days... but again, suddenly, google play service is draining all life to my phone...So, somebody knows whats the problem anda what can i do (whitout flashing again)... thanks buddies
The issue is a location wakelock, there are two ways around it disable location if you don't use it, or disable Google now.
If you are rooted, u can uninstall the Google search app from system and reinstall it from play store

you have an option in settings to disable location
since you are rooted, look for "wakelock detector" and "disable service" in play store,
'wakelock detector' will tell you what apps or services are causing it, and then u can disable that particular service using the 'disable service' app
Thanks a lot

I discovered something else.
I reinstalled my Phone again with Android 4.4.2. I installed all my apps. Using the Google Now Launcher.
Batterie consumptions seems normal. I see wake locks but acceptable.
But when driving to home from work I used Avertinoo (A radar notifying application that uses GPS). At home I closed the application. But suddenly I saw that the phone stays awake all the time. And Google Service is responsible for 86% of battery consumption.
Only solution, restart of the phone.
I did several test with this application. A short usage of the application does not seem to trigger the problem.
I did a test with Navigon (Navigation software) and I got the same problem.
So I think any application using the GPS for to long, will cause a problem with the Google service (endless loop due to time out ?).

Instead of disabling location, setting the location mode to "device only" was enough for me.

it's actually a wakelock, whenever an app requires the phone to be awake(say use gps) it sets a wakelock until some condition is satisfied(as u said endless loop), point is its not due to time out but some weird issue that is coming up with the google apps of our particular device....that's why a restart solves it or at times it may not occur for hours of usage of an app and next time it may occur after a minute.
the disabling of services or location is a temporary solution right now.
I tried to clean up all google apps in system and install the latest gapps and odex them.....until now i havent seen any battery issues(in fact usage is not even visible).....i'll report the findings after a fair usage so i can be sure if it does fix the issue.
I uninstalled Google Search from system and installed from the Playstore, then disabled location reporting and my battery seems to go to normal draining

you don't have to uninstall or install anything
just go to sittings\ security and disable Google reporting
that's all
a little update is coming
On PTCRB there is a new Version certified .233
Maybe this will fix the battery draining.

I was having this draining problem (happened out of nowhere, a full week after installing the 4.4.2 update).
Uninstalling Google Search and reinstalling it through the Play Store didn't worked (kept having Google Services draining more than 80%).
Setting Location mode to GPS-only didn't worked neither. Turning location off worked, but disabled my location-based apps, has expected.
What did worked for me was going to Setting -> Location-> Location Services (Google Location Report) and disabling both Location Report and Location History.
Now Google Services DOES NOT DRAIN more than 2% of my battery. CPU usage is always low (using CPU Spy Reborn, the 1512 MHz frequency step is pretty much around 2 - 3% of the time, as is the 1026 MHz frequency step - the remaining frequency steps are all at 0 - 1%, with 384 MHz (the lowest step) at 52% and Deep Sleep at 34% of the time).
All this with Location active on high-precision mode. Roughly 5h10min of usage (LTE always on), with PowerAmp playing for more than 4h straight, around 55min screen on and 15min or so of gaming (Zombie Gunship), and the battery is still at 72%.
With 4.3, with the same level of usage (moderate to heavy, I guess) the battery would absolutely be on the 60-65% range.
In other words, disabling both Location Report and Location History worked for me, with zero downsides with regards to location based apps (Google Maps, Waze and GPS Essentials all work perfectly).
Hope this helps. Best regards.
Hello, my wifes z1c has some serious batterydrain problems. This is over night and it lost almost 30%
I searched the forum but did not trust any of the suggestions.
I first tought it was a deepsleep problem but that doesnt seem to be the case. Wifi is active but i havent connected it to any network.
Xperia compact battery drain deep sleep problem fix solution
I also have this problem. It should get a lot better if you connect to a wifi network.
I am still investigating what's happening. :-/
Its a hard problem, not only in CM11 and nobody can solve this for evvery time.
This issue (batterydrain with a perfect working deepsleep) come on all devices and all Rom after days or weeks.
Most time a simple restart help.
If not, go to recovery and wipe cache and dalvikcache, then Power off and charge offline to 100%.
If this also not help you need a other kernel.
it looks like Google Play Services is the problem. You can try installing the app Disable Service from Google Play(You must be rooted), and disable following services:
com.google.android.gms.config.ConfigFetchService
com.google.android.gms.auth.be.proximity.authorization.userpresence.UserPresenceService
after installing, open the app and go to the System tab and find Google Play Services, press it and search for those two services and disable them. This has taken away battery drain from my phone.
Hope it helps
Here screenshoot from stock. All time screen of sleep perfect, but once drain the tha accu and other time not. All time BBS, Wakelockdetektor or other such apps show now abnormal wakelock.
The only idea i have is that google protect to log "PlayServices" with such apps and the Services also drain if CPU sleep deep.

Sorry for the very late answer, but i have not been here for a looong time. I just checked my phone and i am missing those services too. I guess they were removed/changed due to a Google Play Services update. However if you still have battery drain, try to reboot your phone, open the app Disable Service (Google Play), go to the System tab, find Google Play services and then search for SystemUpdateService. Enable it, wait a couple of seconds, and then disable it again (if i remember correctly, this service is disabled by default in custom roms, since they are not supposed to update the same way as stock roms do). I have to do this every time my phone has been turned of or rebooted, but it stops the SystemUpdateService from keeping my phone awake all the time.

I have the Galaxy S 6 edge, and I have tried uninstalling updates, and reinstalling, resetting. Short of turning GPS location off, and factory reset (the phone is less than a week old) I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT : also it is constantly searching for GPS, which I am. Assuming is attributing to the issue.
Same issue
Google play services and the google app are draining my battery faster than the screen. I have the same problem but haven't found any fixes.
Maybe it has something to do with the memory leak issue with lollipop? Hopefully the update to 5.1.1 fixes it.
i'll update after i receive the update
Yeah same here. I have since turned locations off. Didn't really notice a huge difference, but it has helped.

For some reason Google play services is keeping my phone awake all day. This started happening after the 5.1.1 update. I even did a factory reset when I updated. All the fixes I found online require root.. Anyone have a solution?
a good ap to save battery power is called battery doctory.
Google Play Services (which I will abbreviate as GPS) began sucking a lot more battery than usual on my phone as of a week ago. GPS updates automatically and silently install without your knowledge every few weeks. Occassionally, they introduce a bug and everyone's phone begins freaking out, seemingly like magic. I think the latest version may have some sort of bug, but it's hard to tell for sure.
First, what version of GPS was installed on your phone? Go to settings-applications-all-Google Play Services and look at the version number under the app name.
The latest version is 8.3.00.
One way to see if the app version is bugged is to uninstall the updates and see if the battery life improves. With updates uninstalled, your Google apps will basically be useless though. This technique isn't fool proof though, because at any time, GPS may update itself again. This also means that you can't downgrade, because the app will update without your knowledge.
Try uninstalling updates to see if your battery improves. If it does, try using it like normal until GPS updates itself. At that point, battery drain should kick up again.
PS: Are you using any Android Wear?

I have note 10+ SM-N95F. Since I installed the last software update released June 1, my battery is discharging quicker. I saw there is an app called mlp that increase its battery consumption after the update.
Anybody know what this app is for?

Depending on when you installed the update it may take a short bit for things to stabilize. Until they do things like this could happen.
MLP is the com.samsung.mlp app and is made by Samsung. It functions as a Mobile Location Protcol, serving as an intermediary between a location access server and a location based application.
I doubt that this is the cause of your battery drain issues, as a location based app on your phone has to trigger the MLP process. I would try to figure out what app your using is requiring access to your location the most and either disable it or allow the phone to put it to sleep. This way when your not using it the app won't keep triggering the MLP.

The forum does not let me to upload images but before the update, my battery usage says that mlp has consumed 1.1% of battery from 100% to ~15%. But now from 100% to 40% of battery, mlp has consumed 14.7%. There is no new app after I updated the software. I'll try to find out which app is requiring access to my location and triggering the MLP.

Excluding what the battery usage app is saying, what is your usable time compared to what it was before the update? Have you installed anything shortly before the update or after the update? Are you using the phone more then you were before and what is it your doing with the phone... Are you listening to music more often, using social media apps more often, games like pokemon go or other gps enabled games or anything that uses Geofencing or location awareness?
Of all the location enabled apps on my phone 57.9% of my battery was used since last charge. Of which the most use was by Google Play Services, followed by Messaging, Android System, Total Launcher and then Maps.

Before the update I used to get ~7 hours of screen. Now I'm just getting arround 4 hours. I'm using my phone as I normally used to (social media, email, news, maps, etc). I don't play games in my phone. I have not installed anything last month. I installed the software update 3 days ago. I could show you the battery usage app but the forum doesn't let me to add links or attach images.
I normally leave the phone connected in the night and disconnect in the morning. The phone could last all day without connecting to the charger.
Right now, my phone is in 15% and the app is saying that mlp has consumed 22.6%. Just 3h 45m screen on time.

Ok, here is a link where you'll find 2 captures. One shows the battery usage before the update, and the other shows the battery usage after the update.
Note: I do not use my phone while is charging.
You could try clearing the cache on the MLP app (if possible), clearing the cache via recovery menu, seeing if an update was released on galaxy store or factory data resetting the phone.
About the only things I can think of that would be of help. I know it's not much, but it's a starting point.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have forced stop the mlp app in App info (I don't know why I didn't think about this before). When I get there I discovered that the app that was triggering MLP is Gallery stories. Is a samsung app, I do not use that app and I don't know what it is so I disabled it. After that, MLP is no longer consuming my battery.
That's good to hear... Galaxy Stories was always present on the phone and is tied into the gallery app. You may have enabled it (or it was already enabled), but you can turn off stories by going to gallery settings and toggling off the two options for it.
