Hi i'm trying to get my HTC Desire Eye back to completely stock but keep running into problems,
i've flashed ROM_STOCK_2.19.401.1_Desire_Eye_Europe which seems to be running fine, but there is OTA updates to get it from Lollipop to Marshmallow.
When these updates download and attempt to install I keep running into errors:
e: missing bitmap oem_unlock_bg
also
e: find no match partition: for package path @/cache/recovery/block.map
Any help would he grateful

Did you flash stock recovery? Cause the update won't install if you have twrp.

I flashed
Rom: ROM_STOCK_2.19.401.2_Desire_Eye_Europe.zip &
Recovery: eye_ul_2.19.401.2_recovery.img
keeps failing on the update
gets about a quarter way through installing the update then aborts installation citing the errors above
Go to bootloader and check if system status is modified and if the device is unlocked. If it is so then Lock back your bootloader. U can find tutorials here on xda. Y is it so?
Cuz u can't receive official updates unless u relock your bootloader and system status is official.(not modified)

how do I get the system status back to official?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-eye/development/ruu-stock-firmware-collection-t3104677/page3
^^ check the link. If u have already installed official stock recovery and stock rom then just connect phone to PC and run the command in ADB, mentioned in the post to lock the bootloader.
Command: fastboot oem lock

i've already done this about 5 times, had official recovery & rom, when it tried to install the OTA updates from Lollipop to Marshmallow it errors?
even when I do this it still says in the bootloader: Software status: Modified
I suggest wiping the system partition and installing the ruu again and then relocking bootloader. That's the only thing u can do if the updates are failing really. It's only a suggestion. Hope it fixes the issue. And y wipe system partition u ask? Well depending upon the errors u mentioned it seems like something is wrong with this particular partition.

I have tried to install a new custom ROM on my HTC One M8.
It has a unlocked bootloader, it's unlocked, rooted, and i've had InsertCoin and Paranoid Android, and CyanogenMod on it.
My device is S-ON.
However, lately I have not been able to update to any of the newer roms.
The ROMs that I have tried to install are:
HTC_One_(M8)_-_MaximusHD_11.0.0
insertcoin-m8_5.0.3_ART
ViperOneM8_4.2.0_v2
And none of them work except for
pa_m8-4.45-20140729
which is always my go-to ROM right now when the others fail so I don't soft brick it.
I do have a Nandroid in case everything goes to hell.
But my question is, what is wrong with my device and why can't I update to another ROM? It gets stuck at the HTC White Logo screen every single time with every ROM that fails.
Thanks!

You have old hboot and firmware version.
All the newer Sense based ROM require hboot no less than 3.19.0000
What's your fastboot getvar all - post here minus serial no. & imei no.
Maybe lollipop OTA already available for your device region.

Here is the RUU for your device version : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58771521&postcount=4593
This will update your device to the latest lollipop 4.20.531.4
1. put your device in bootloader/fastboot mode and connect to PC
2. run command to relock bootloader
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
3. Right click the RUU exe that you downloaded, select "run as administrator" .. wait for it to run, later there is a dialog box, accept, next, next, update, blablabla until it finish and your device rebooted... done.
Note : this will wipe everything on your internal storage. Make a backup of important files before you proceed.
Then if you want to install custom ROM again, re-unlock bootloader & install any custom recovery that you like.

These are the 3 items that important to check what you need.
I don't really need to search for it because I'm always around in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

I did what you asked.
And okay I will keep that in mind

Also, do I need to "re unlock" my phone? Or can I just do "fastboot oem unlock" because I have once before unlocked it?
This IS a relock right?

No .. you need to unlock it with the unlock_code.bin that you received from HTCDev when you first unlock your device.
If you don't have it, reapply a new one.
I see, okay I unlocked it again.
While I'm at it, I wanted to ask one final question that's been bugging me for a while now.
When I got to my Philz recovery and do "factory wipe" why doesn't it actually wipe my data?
I want ALL of my data, ROM, apps, everything to be gone, but it doesn't do that.
Is there an alternative?
Is there no way to remove all user data/apps?
I don't use Philz recovery so not sure how to help you. Maybe try an older version 6.26.6
I use only TWRP and now your device already updated to 5.0.1; you need to use TWRP 2.8.4.0 or the latest 2.8.5.0
Okay I am on TWRP, how do I do a factory reset on TWRP?
and what exactly will it do?
I just hope it'll actually wipe everything when I factory reset it. Or else I don't see a point of even having a factory reset option
It's all depends on what you want to do.
Factory reset - to prepare your device to install next ROM, it wipes user data, cache, dalvik cache
I always prefer - wipe menu - advance - select data, cache, dalvik, system - this wipe everything except internal storage.
To wipe data and internal storage - wipe menu - advance - format data - yes
I got to go now ... bed time
Thank you that's all I needed to know.
I appreciate the help, goodnight!

Haha I see.
Do you know any information on the OnePlus?
I made a post there, however it's not a very active forum.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
No idea about any other brand phone ... I use only HTC since 2008 when I first registered with XDA with my first HTC Elf
Haha interesting, I started with the Droid DNA being my first HTC device, and that thing was so bad it almost never make me want to go HTC again. But I got my M7
And staying on topic... If you have a different kernel on your device, would you still be able to RUU it? Or would you have to revert the kernel back?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
RUU - no need
OTA - need to revert to stock kernel/modules if modules are changed. If modules are stock, then no need

First ... remove the serial no. & imei no in your post as they are sensitive info.
You have 3 options :
1. Restore 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60147089&postcount=5104
It read as WWE 4.20.401.10 TWRP Backup but that's typo error .. it should read as WWE 4.19.401.10 TWRP Backup
or
2. Relock your bootloader and install 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything)
or
3. Relock your bootloader and fastboot flash the 4.16.401.10 RUU.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything and also note you need htc_fastboot instead of normal fastboot)
thanks for your fast response.

You need to extract it with 7-zip and put those files in your backup folder not to ADB it nor fastboot it.

No need to relock bootloader.
Only when running RUU.exe or RUU.zip you need to relock bootloader when S-On.
Using a backup no need to relock bootloader. Just flash stock recovery then do OTA.
If that backup fails (as I'm not sure whether that's fully stock or not), I put up my own stock backup in my thread .. you can try that later if current one fails.
Restore successfully completed. Now, in order not to have problems with latest OTA , i have to restore stock recovery, right ?

Yes. OTA downloaded and I tried twice to install, but all it did was restart phone into bootloader.
After flashing stock recovery, I rebooted phone, ran OTA and update started.
After update completed, phone rebooted to white start screen with HTC logo and froze there.
I have read that this is probably because I ran OTA on rooted device.
So now i am stuck with no OS and hope these files will help.
Thanks ckpv5 for help and link.

The best solution for me if I ever have this problem .. I will format data (not wipe data) in TWRP before I restore the backup (of course need to backup internal storage data somewhere else first)
Done . Now i have free space. many thanks !!
Hey everyone
The thing is that I was trying to return my phone to stock recovery to update my phone to Marshmallow and unroot it and I read this in another forum:"Boot your phone to TWRP recovery mode by turn off your phone then presses Vol up + Power to boot into bootloader then choose RECOVERY. There is a more simple way, by using “adb reboot recovery”.
Once came into TWRP main menu, now tap Mount -> Mount system then taps Home.
Tap Advanced -> File Manager, browse to “/system/xbin” folder. From there delete su, daemonsu or busybox if it exists. Also browse to “/system/app” the get rid of Superuser.apk."
So I followed these instructions and then when I rebooted the phone,it got stuck in bootloop. I can't turn it off now or get into the bootloader.
Android-HTC One M8
What can I do to have my phone again in stock recovery?
Thanks in advance
First of all if you rooted the rom this ain't going to work. You need a never rooted stock rom + recovery.
Hold power + volume up and switch to volume down when the screen turns black (do not let go of the power button) then you are in the BL. From there you go to the custom TWRP recovery.
Then you have to find a pure stock backup or a RUU that matches your OS/firmware number (if you haven't made one yourself), restore it and flash the stock recovery and you are done.

From there I tried to flash the stock RUU 6.12.1540.4 and it always ends with error 155>UKNOWNERROR despite already relocked the device. Should I flash 4.24.709.3 RUU?
Also I try to get to the recovery menu but it only shows a phone with a red triangle, nothing else.

You can't run the dev edition RUU at all as you are S-ON and have a different firmware. If you have the 709 RUU then try that indeed. But backup what you need because a RUU deletes EVERYTHING !

So my steps would be S-OFF and from there download 4.24.709.3 RUU? with firmware you mean version-main, right?
Before all this mess I thankfully backed up everything I wanted

No S-OFF is NOT needed. just get the RUU with that version number indeed if it's even available. Then run it with a RELOCKED bootloader.

Then you need a pure stock backup and restore it (usually done with the custom recovery TWRP)

I found a stock zip here in XDA,tried to flash it but it says this:
C:\Users\X\Desktop\HTC Fastboot\ADB and Fastboot>fastboot oem rebootRUU
...
(bootloader) Start Verify: 3
OKAY [ 0.011s]
finished. total time: 0.012s

target reported max download size of 1826418688 bytes
load_file: could not allocate 1752557590 bytes
error: cannot load 'firmware.zip': Not enough space
Should I do a ramdump or something like that?
A stock back-up has to be unpacked and RESTORED with TWRP. No idea what you are doing now but i suggest to stop and read instructions first !
A stock zip can mean everything at this point.....where did you get it ?

for the adb sideload says cannot read *sideload* . Any other way to push a .zip file into the phones sd card to mount it with twrp?

Try fastboot erase cache after install TWRP ...
Can you post your fastboot getvar all without serial & imei no. ?
Usually this error is related to partition problem .. maybe flashing the firmware, then TWRP follow by fastboot erase cache command can fix this.

First - a stupid question (because it happened before) - you do flash a correct version TWRP meant for HTC M8, right ? The one that you downloaded from https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
If the answer is yes for the above, try flashing firmware.
Get the firmware fw_6.16.708.1.zip and read how-to in my thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60218734&postcount=5
Then unlock the bootloader with the unlock_code.bin .. when successfully unlocked, the system will reboot but it will fail .. press both power + volume up button .. when the screen goes black, release both buttons but press and hold volume down button. This will get you to hboot, press power once to get to bootloader/fastboot ... flash TWRP then try to restore backup.

So .. that's your actual problem. If it is not hardware problem, you can fix this by flashing firmware as I mentioned above. A few people succeed to fix the same problem by flashing firmware.

i need you help guys , i'm just trying to power up my phone normal and never go back to this bootloader screen
You flashed a rom that wouldn't work on Sprint device by default. You need proper kernel to run with this ROM but I will not go further on this.
Your best bet now is install RUU meant for Sprint.
Everything that you need is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173

Thnks for your reply sir , i was trying to do this , but now my phone cannot connect to the RUU installation wizard , How can i do it
I'm not on PC .. unable to write proper guide.
The easier one for you is download 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_4.25.651.14_RUU.zip
then rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on your microSD, not in any folder.
On bootloader, press power once to go to hboot. Once on hboot it will scan the file and ask whether to update. Volume up to update and let it do its stuff. Once completed, reboot.
After setup complete, delete that zip file.
Before that, if you select to go to recovery, do you still have TWRP ?
If yes, boot to recovery and make backup of your internal storage as the above procedure will wipe everything on your device except microSD.
Or you can install any ROM with sprint support (like the one I'm using now) then you don't need RUU.
After completed and ROM is booting, you can install any other ROM with Sprint support.
But it's best for you to update your firmware to Marshmallow first.

the last part that i didn't get , how can i update my firmware to marshmallow first ?
ckpv5 , got the ruu file and rename it and copy it to sdcard , but when i go into HBoot it says
Image Update Fail
Parsing ...
Device Halted due to large Image Update Fail
press power to rebbot .
You downloaded the one that I mentioned ? I made a mistake there (wrong file copied).
You need the one that have 4.25.654.14 in it, sorry.
When I said update to Marshmallow first, that's after you fixed current problem.
After you successfully installed 4.25.654.14, then do OTA to 4.25.654.18 then later to 6.20.654.3
(That's why I don't like to help when not on PC.. sometime copy wrong filename)
