Convert Vodafone M8 to T-mobile M-8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have Vodafone branded HTC M-8 and I would like to root it and convert to T-Mobile (USA) M-8.
Is it possible? Can someone point me to the guide?

Thank you.

Are you trying to change the band support, to work on the T-Mob US network? Or just trying to get WiFi calling to work?

Yes I need band support and WiFi Calling too.

In brief, what you would need to do is:
1) Root by unlocking bootloader via HTCDev.com, flashing custom recovery TWRP, and flashing SuperSU 2.65 (alternately, you can try kingroot, but it doesn't always work)
2) Sunshine app to s-off ($25)
3) Change to T-Mob US CID and MID
4) Flash Marshmallow T-Mobile RUU

Thank you I will give this a try this weekend, and update this thread.

Htc one m8 - 4.4.4 -- no software update

Just bought a HTC M8 from China..took a while to arrive but all is good and works great and very fast.. my question is: the software version on it is 4.4.4 which i believe is KitKat.. when searching for new software updates it finds nothing, i thought it would at least update to Lollipop 5.0 so i'm wanting to manually push the update into the phone and update that way if possible? The phone is S-On in the bootloader so i know i need to get Sunshine S-Off to get that sorted but thats about all i do know - i have flashed the M7 a few times with custom ROMs but that was a while ago and forget how to do it - If anyone can help or point me in the right direction to where i can get the version 6.0 update ROM or a good custom one i'd be much appreciative.. thank you

HTC one m8 won't accept any other rims

Hi,
I have an M8 that I bought as a project to mess around with, bootloader was already unlocked, but was still S ON, It was already running a ROM that wasn't stock, but no big deal, went to flash Viper ROM and would only boot back into the bootloader - no splash screen.. I then tried the Android revolution HD with the same problem. I'm using the latest TWRP and doing the wipes before flashing the rom
CID is HTCCN701
MID is OP6B5000
Main is 4.29.1400.6
HBoot is 3.19.0.0000
Obviously a Chinese phone, so I S OFFed last night hoping that that was somehow stopping the flash.
My next step i'm thinking is to change the CID and MID and flash a corresponding firmware (Australian region) but am concerned if these rom flashes don't take then the firmware won't either.
just as a side note, flashed the M7 ARHD by accident and phone rebooted to splash screen and got stuck in a bootloop, but didn't boot straight to the bootloader, but when I flashed the correct version, booted straight to bootloader.
Did post this in a general Q&A, and got back recommendation that I super cid which I have done. Also flash WWE firmware, but I've still got reservations as I can't flash any other Rom at the moment, even though twrp says the flash is successful. I don't want to flash firmware and have it die completely if that doesn't take.
Does anyone have any advice?

And obviously you wasted the money that you spent to S-Off.
Something that I always see .. people paid money for S-Off but don't know what to do with it or why he needs it.
You can never change a phone variant with S-Off.
Your device is M8_TL ... you can't convert it to M8_UL or M8_UHL even with S-Off.
Same principle as you can't convert a Sprint device to Int'l GSM -
you can't convert a M8_WHL to M8_TL or M8_UL or M8_UHL or M8_WLV or M8_UL_CA
same goes
you can't convert a M8_TL (your device variant) to M8_WHL or M8_UL or M8_UHL or M8_WLV or M8_UL_CA
To install a custom ROM on your M8_TL .. you need to know whether the ROM support M8_TL or not. I don't personally see any of them ... most common is a ROM with support for M8_UL, M8_UHL, M8_WHL and M8_WLV in one zip.
Another note ... I don't advise to install any M8_UL firmware on your M8_TL .. you'll either totally brick the device or you'll brick the radio.
The best for you is google for your software version RUU .. mostly on Chinese site they have the RUU for this device.
Thanks for the advice, Will leave it as it is, it is running a custom Rom at the moment and is in working order.

Hello.
Not very knowledgeable here, so pardon my somewhat silly questions. I just bought 3 HTC M8 devices, with a view to upgrading to Marshmallow. They're for my mum and 2 younger siblings. I discovered I had the M8_UL, M8_TL and M8Q_UL.
I've been able to upgrade the M8Q_UL and M8_UL to marshmallow, the M8_TL has been the x factor. Can you please point me in the right direction?
I've done tons of research - that's how I was able to upgrade the other 2 - but there's very limited information on the M8_TL.
CID -11111111
HBOOT-3.19
RADIO-1.29.2145000121.12G
OS-6.12.401.4 (I did a firmware update before I found your post about not being able to convert the device, sorry)
Thanks.
I eventually worked out the TL variant is a Chinese version, unfortunately there was limited stuff available at the time I originally set about trying to flash roms, in the end, I left it with the custom rom it came with, as there was no others available, and no firmware updates, I wouldn't bother trying to do anything with it, but if you're planning to use, I'd root it and uninstall any suspicious app that's not needed (bloatware) as I didn't fully trust some of the Chinese apps not to pass data back, but if you've already updated firmware with an incompatible one, the phone may not work unless you put the original one back on.

I believe there are a lot of information on Chinese forum but not on others.
If you changed MID for M8_TL, then you need to change it back to original MID. If never change, then usually flashing RUU will work on SuperCID (if not, need to change CID too).
You can try the Marshmallow RUU 6.20.1400.1 to update your M8_TL
(only if your original firmware is x.xx.1400.x)
Download the RUU here - https://easy-firmware.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=folder&id=1153

Updating HTC One M8 AT&T Unlocked Phone

Hello, I am super new to this... and I'm currently trying to update my HTC One M8 from 4.4.2 to 6.2.0 ... but it is not letting me through the AT&T Software update, nor installing RUU through HTC Sync Manager.
So I've decided to root my phone, and currently in TWRP 2.8.0.0 (since that's the only version that doesn't get my recovery screen stuck), and I've installed the latest SuperSU v2.65 free version. I've tried to install and run the
OTA_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_HTC_Europe_6.12.401.4_R-4.16.401.13
but it doesn't let me, it gives me an error every time that I do it. What am I doing wrong?

so you're saying, I should lock back my phone, flash install the firmware, and then flash install the RUU? is that what you're trying to say?
1. I pointed you to correct AT&T section for info
2. I pointed you to the guide on how to update especially when you're not on AT&T network,
so you can't do OTA update with AT&T software update in Settings.
3. Relock bootloader - install firmware - install RUU, the only option that you have for your current device status.
If you don't want Marshmallow update and prefer Lollipop update, everything that you need is in AT&T section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
You may have call problem when on Marshmallow when not on AT&T network due to HD voice implementation,
ask in those threads for confirmation.
Good luck.

How to unroot htc one m8??(thanks Redpoint3)

I got an update from the factory but it wan't work tell i unroot my phone , how can i do that??
guys the problem is more then unroot the device if you have the time read the comments and post any help
thanks
"Themes and apps" is a really weird section to post your question in. I'll ask the mods to move it to "Q&A, Help" where it belongs.
To unroot, you need to restore a stock TWRP backup. Either one you made before rooting, or get one from here (and restore with the instructions):http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Alternately, you can relock the bootloader and RUU (RUU will wipe the phone).

You don't have the ability to move threads, after they are created. The mods can, and have already moved it to the right section (Q&A). It usually takes someone else to report the thread (which I did), and I don't think you can report your own thread.
But back to the topic at hand, I hope the info I posted was useful to you. Let us know if you have further questions.

Thanks men but there is one thing , the bootloader is already locked I didn't unlock it before , so I was wondering whether I have to unlock the bootloader and install CM13 room or not doing that and unroot the phone because may be there is a chance that the company send an update for 6.0
I only have two questions
Is there is an official update to 6.0 from HTC company?
Or should I go with CM13
Also is there are any risks in bootloader unlock?
I successfully unlocked the bootloader in lg g2 mini before and it was very easy without any big risks
And now with HTC one m8 I don't know if it is the same or not.

Android 6 came to this phone a really long time ago, about a year ago (Dec 2015) for most M8 versions. If you didn't get the update, it may due to being rooted, which typically prevents OTA update.
Alternately, depending on what version M8 you have, you can just RUU to Marshmallow (Android 6) without unrooting (although it will wipe all data on the phone). Do you know your phone's CID, or at least provide the OS number on the bootloader screen? From that, I can possibly tell you if there is an RUU.
Or should I go with CM13
You're talking about 2 completely different things, unrooting to OTA, or installing a custom ROM. I can't make that decision for you, you need to do it yourself.
Also is there are any risks in bootloader unlock? Not really. The bootloader can still be relocked, and you can restore to stock. I don't recall seeing any brick reports from unlocking the bootloader. The critical "brick" partitions (hboot and radio) aren't accessed by unlocking the bootloader, and any partitions that are accessed (system, recovery, etc.), can be easily rewritten/repaired if anything goes wrong.

This phone is a mess. Its the AT&T version (m8_ul_ca), but its been rooted, s-off, SuperCID, and some other firmware installed, or partially installed.
Reason I say "partially installed" is that the firmware number (version-main) 1.29.708.4 isn't one I recognize. But 1.xx main versions typically correspond to KitKat on this device. Which doesn't correspond to hboot 3.19 (which is for Lollipop or Marshmallow), nor the radio number [email protected] which is for AT&T Lollipop firmware.
You should re-baseline this device by RUU. But which RUU is the question. Since you have s-off and SuperCID, you run most RUUs.
The main version "708" corresponds to the Hong Kong version. Is that where you are located? What bands does your carrier use for 3G, and for LTE? These things will determine with RUU to use.

َAm not sure but i guess it's not AT&T version because i can use any SIM card i want , AT&T version use specific SIM card i guess !!
Any way i'm not from Hong Kong , i use MOBILS SIM card (From the company MOBILIS) for 3g and LTE .

You shouldn't be "guessing' anything, and your guesses would be wrong, anyway. As I've already stated, the product ID m8_ul_ca means its US variant AT&T (that product ID also US Developer's Edition, but ATT is much more common). That much is an absolute fact, and not a guess on my part. Being SIM locked or not, has little bearing on what version you have. Any of these versions can be SIM unlocked with the proper code. So stop guessing at answers, as its not particularly useful.
I'll also guess that the back cover has been replaced. As the AT&T version has the AT&T "globe" logo on the back. We've seen a good number of devices "debranded" by having the back covers replaced to remove carrier logos. I'll guess it has a model/carrier number on the back cover, that also doesn't match any of the getvar info.
Any way i'm not from Hong Kong , i use MOBILS SIM card (From the company MOBILIS) for 3g and LTE .
None of this tells me anything useful. What country are you actually from? More importantly, what specific band (or bands) number does your carrier use for 3G, and what band(s) do they use for LTE?
Also i forgot to motion that when i go to software update i find that there is a system update (Software update :4.16.401.13 (57.45 MB)) when i download it , it wan't install because it says (We determine that your phone maybe running a modified version pf its system software . for your protection , we cannot update your phone . please revert your phone to the official htc system software to update your phone.
The carrier version of the OTA is Euro (401) so it won't install on a phone what has firmware for the Hong Kong version (708). Additionally, you have to install the OTAs sequentially, without skipping. So if you currently have 1.xx version, you can't skip 2.xx and 3.xx and go straight to 4.xx. In other words, there is no way you will get that OTA to install in your current configuration.
Which is why I am suggesting RUU. The RUUs do not need to be installed sequentially. Its a complete re-image, and it would also fix the mismatch you have between the main version (HK) and the hboot, radio (AT&T Lollipop).

Also as i said i use MOBILIS sim (http://www.mobilis.dz/) i didn't try the 3g or 4g because i use wifi to connect to the internet
Another qeustion : is that mean i can't unlock the bootloader and install the recovery to install CM rooms
In other word there is a risk for that?
++
thanks for the help

Again, you are providing info that doesn't answer the questions I asked; and is not particularly useful. You didn't try 3G or 4G. So what? Does that mean you never want to use them, and will never use cell data? Or otherwise?
The following states that Mobilis uses 2100 MHz for 3g, but doesn't state info on 4G: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
You can typically call your carrier, and get the answer to the question.

You should be able to unlock the bootloader. But whether you can run any current ROMs is questionable.
Your firmware is a mess. The old firmware number 1.xx won't work with any current ROMs. You should fix your firmware first. But again, by RUU and I need more info before I can direct you to an RUU.
Also the version TWRP custom recovery you will need to flash custom ROMs, depend on what firmware version you have. And your firmware is all screwed up (seems to be partially modified) so again, its best you fix the firmware by RUU before proceeding with anything else.

Lollipop is the latest Android version for your device variant which is a LRA.
You can get the 4.21.512.4 RUU here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66044439&postcount=37
then OTA to 4.21.512.5 but most probably you need to change the CID from SuperCID 11111111 back to stock LRA__001 for OTA to install successfully as explained here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67516629&postcount=26
Then you can install any Marshmallow GSM ROM with Verizon support.
Note : Never ever install any Verizon stock firmware or any GSM firmware to your device, it'll brick the radio and you'll lose network & data.
Think about it before you do it...

It's awesome you actually got great advice and refrences to how to do what you need to do. I'd like to add this though: Consider whether getting Lollipop is worth re-locking and doing the things you need to do, including putting your device from s-off to s-on is worth it. And yes, you can run a RUU executable and extract the rom.zip from your computer's temporary files, but unless you have some mad coding and manual programming experience, with the version of HBOOT you have listed if you want to be s-off again you may be out of luck. or find yourself in a bootloop or your computer unable to find your device, or even unable to access stock recovery even with the correct button sequences. At best, you may find yourself unable to access mms apn settings (not even sure if you need or care about that), and if you can access them (apn and mms settings), unable to get the settings to stick (or actually apply themselves so your phone even uses them at all), or only have internet access but no mms even with the exact settings for mms you need put into a third-party texting app such as textra. etc.
if you are already or end up s-on and updated to the "latest and greatest" for your M8, maybe everything will work out perfectly for you . But, just something to thing about before doing all of those things. If you are lucky enough to get a bonafide XDA member's attention and help, as you have already, you are still by default expected to think of these things and do your own research. What you probably won't find out along the way is that when you run into some strange problem, there's no one knowledgeable to help you decipher it. There's tons of unanswered posts on this forum alone that have been viewed many times, that go unanswered.

That's a wrong advise and wrong understanding.
Once a device is S-Off, there is NO NEED to relocking bootloader and there is NO NEED to change S-Off to S-On.
Only S-On device needs relocking bootloader to install signed firmware and signed RUU. S-On device can't install unsigned firmware or RUU.
S-Off device can install any unsigned or signed firmware and RUU (no relocking is needed and not advisable)

Leave it UNLOCKED so it will still be UNLOCKED after RUU is installed.
Whatever you do now or later ... no need to relock it, leave it UNLOCKED.
You can do OTA as this is not a Verizon device but LRA. Now you can't OTA because you have a Verizon ROM running. RUU 4.21.512.4 is stock LRA, you'll get OTA notification once you install it.
The only thing is you need to change SuperCID 11111111 to LRA__001 to proceed OTA (as experience by other user in the above link I gave you).
Frankly speaking I don't see any good reason to have SuperCID on this variant.
Once you updated to Lollipop you can use Marshmallow ROM which support Verizon (there are a few of them). Nougat .. not so sure but you can always try later after you updated to lollipop but definitely won't work on your current firmware which is a KitKat.
