SOLUTION: update to OxygenOS 3.1.3 or higher
___________________________________________
hi, I have a OP3, but in the app "google photos" and in the "gallery" only the pictures shot with my OP3 are showing, including screenshots.
So I'm missing my whatsapp pictures (using GBwhatsapp) photos stored in: internalStorage/GBWhatsapp/media/GBwhatsappImages
als missing downloaded pictures (download with chrome & slimsocial app), phones stored in:
internalStorage/pictures
internalStorage/Download
I've read that more people can't find their photos (download or from other apps) in the Google photo's app,
If I look in device folders I only see my screenshot.
Are there more people with this problem? or Am I doing something wrong?
In the past I used QuickPic, I tried that and it's working fine, displays all my pictures/videos!
But I prefer google photo, so I'd rather have that working.
No one with the same problem?
Open menu in Google Folders on the side, and choose: local folders.
does it help?

No, it only shows the screenshots I took. no downloaded images
I updated to OxygenOS 3.1.3 and the problem is fixed

HTC's Photos app doesn't show the photos on my SD card and neither does Gallery (the cooliris Nexus One app ported to Incredible). How do I get photos to show up? Arr, it's driving me nuts!
Edit: SOLVED, see below.
FIXED

I fixed this using the free "Gallery Enabler" app from the Market. I definitely recommend it!

I tried that app and thought it was great too, until I couldn't find any of my music playlists.
I think it hides folders from other applications besides Photos.
If you have problems, open gallery enabler and check all folders before you un-install it.
Then the right way to fix it is to open the Photos app on the phone, clck on the menu button and select "Settings" and then "Default Albums" then select the options you want from there.
If you're wondering how this application works, it probably just deletes/adds the hidden .nomedia files from folders. Those files restrict applications from having access to the media by signaling the android media scanner to ignore them. For instance, if you put one in the root of your sd card, the system would ignore any media on your entire card.
In theory, it's a great idea.
The problem is that all of my music is organized in folders and each folder contains the album art for the album.
So blocking the folder with the album art so that it does not show up in the gallery also blocks the music file from different media applications.

Ah, you're definitely right. All my music stopped showing up. However, once I went back and enabled all the folders and applied settings in Gallery Enabler all my music showed up again and the photos were still fixed. I suppose you could use Gallery Enabler once to "force" Gallery and Photos to see all the folders.
Changing default albums in HTC's Photos app did nothing to make media show up again. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Un-installing gallery enabler brought my music back but not the playlists, I had to manually re-build all of my playlists again.
I really like the way the Stock Android Gallery app handles my photo, rather than the Sony Album app. But recently I noticed that my phone has a number of photos that supposed to be deleted re-appeared in my Gallery app. Very strange.
I installed Google KitKat 4.4. Gallery and Camera app , installed google plus, thus the "photo app" came together as well. All photos save to SD card DCIM folder by default. I did make sure that cache cleared, thumbnail rebuild after each test below:
1. Delete a photo from Gallery App, it disappear from all photo viewing apps, including the Sony Album App.
2. Check ES Explorer, the photo supposedly deleted still in there.
Tried again, using the Google Plus photo app
1. Delete a photo from Google Plus Photo App; made sure empty the Bin as well. Check all photo viewing app, the photo has been removed.
2. Checked ES Explorer again, the photo deleted is still there!
Then I tried Sony Album App
1. Delete a photo from Sony Album App. All photo viewing apps have the photo removed
2. ES explorer: this time it removed the photo there as well!!
Is this some kind of feature that the google apps build to protect accidental deleted image? If so, how come the photos are still there after Bin was emptied? How to make sure the photos that I wanted to delete is genuinely deleted? (apart from using other apps)

It gives you the option when setting up the Phone to backup to Google so check your sync settings.
I didn't even turn on the photo auto backup. So there is nothing I can set there except from logging into google account.
As for the Gallery app, I can find any setting regarding deleting photos. There is not even a Bin folder in there.
Bump. Anyone can help?
When I go to preview photos after taking a few pictures, (by clicking the gallery circle at the bottom right in the camera) I can only see the LAST picture taken and do not have the ability to swipe to any others. I never had a phone that worked like this and its kinda annoying to have to leave the camera app, then go open the gallery and find latest photos just to preview them, possibly delete them, then have to go BACK into the camera app to retake and repeat jumping between apps..
Is there a setting I have on that's causing this?
This function (or lack of) really just doesn't make any sense.
You need to go reset the default app that's associated. For example, I previously had clicked that preview picture and opened with (and set to default) Google photos, which only shows one picture and does not swipe. I went into google photos and cleared defaults, then went back into the camera app and clicked the preview picture. I then selected gallery and it allows me to swipe through all my pictures.

worked!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If do a search and find a picture I want, then long-press it, and click "Download image", it downloads successfully but I can't find it anywhere with Solid Explorer or Google Photo. That said, if I go to the "Files" application it is right there when I open the application and the info bar at the top of the screen says "Downloads" and there is also a "docs" folder and all the other pictures I have done this with in the past.
I often do this to share them to Facebook or in a chat, but in order to use them I have to search and download, open Files, and use that to move it to Pictures or some other folder I know where it is, and then go back to the application and use it to upload the file by it opening Photo (the Gallery app).
Where are these downloads going that Solid Explorer or Photo can't find them?
BTW, I am not rooted.
Go into Google Photos, select the hamburger menu on the upper left, and choose device folders. You should be able to see from there where your pictures were dropped. If you open the folder, there's a toggle switch to sync it with Google Photos.

Yeah, I understand completely... But the folder isn't there.
I've had this exact same issue. I've resorted to taking a screen shot and cropping it.

Glad I'm not crazy... I think I'm pretty good with Android and just tech in general, and it just stumps me on this one.

I looked for fun and when I clicked the download notification and opened it in Google Photos it says it's in the folder /documents which doesn't exist ?
Anyway to save the photo I just clicked the share button in Google Photos and shared it to Solid Explorer and chose a location to save it.

That will work! Thanks!
I am coming from the GP4, and here's my issue. When I utilize an app such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and select a photo it automatically defaults to pulling the photo from the Samsung Gallery. Well, when I had a GP4, it would pull from Google Photos regardless, even if the image wasn't local, it would download it from the server and send. There's no way to change the default galleries app that I know of. Does anyone have a workaround for this? Is it changeable?
There's also the issue of taking a photo or video with the default camera app and if you happen to remove the Samsung Gallery APK through the console, pressing on the preview bubble of the just taken picture or video results in an error popup that there is no gallery app installed even though I have Google Photos installed.
I wish Samsungs version of Android would be more open and not so limited to their "core" apps.
