Hello! Firstly I'd like to say thanks to any regular posters, this site helped me root my phone in the first place! I am trying to sort out what might be the cause of this problem and remove it, hopefully without starting over, as it was a pain in the butt to get the phone set up how I wanted and I do not have a full night to commit to it at the moment.
I have a Samsung S2 (the t-mobile branded one, sgh-t989), android 4.1.2 (kernel 3.0.31-1003885). This problem is recent and came on suddenly without changing any settings or installing any new software. The phone behaved normally for the first few months I owned it, it is a used phone, however, and I have no idea how the original owner treated it.
The problem is that brightness becomes tied to one or more of the sensors, and it takes several restarts, or sometimes days of waiting for the problem to go away. The brightness most often becomes tied to the accelerometer, where having the phone pointed at 45 degrees (or 01:30 o'clock), results in near 0% brightness, while returning to full brightness at 90-0 (or 3 through 12 o'clock). Occasionally it ties to another sensor (proximity?) or changes seemingly randomly, and once or twice has tied to the compass, with North being the brightness sink (with a similar 'darkness range' to orientation). The problem starts without a discernable cause.
Whatever the problem is, it also appears to disable, or for the most part inhibit multitouch. Around the time the problem started, tasker disabled and refuses to re-enable, if it is relevant. Shortly after the problem started, any push notification began turning on the screen (with a normal timeout, however). The problem persists through changing of any of the settings, toggling any modules, and through multiple resets, and never resolves itself without a cycle of multiple pulling-outs of the battery. After it is resolved, it usually remains fixed for a day or so before re-appearing.
If anyone has any suggestions for chasing down the problem, or has heard of anything similar, I'm all ears. I would like to avoid doing a factory reset, especially since I have no assurance it will resolve the problem. I'm happy to provide any additional information. Thanks for your help!

I have a problem that more people seem to have, according to the search. I couldn’t find the “audio” tab in my Bluetooth-settings, so that didn’t help me.
The problem is as follows. After 1 day the sound on my compact III mutes, including vibration. Sometimes it's after 12 hours, sometimes after 2 days, there's no distinct pattern to be recognized. Also, it doesn't seem to matter if you use the phone or not, since it sometimes is alright at night and the sound is muted the next morning. This is for all sound-events (warnings, incoming call notifications, messages, mp3 etc), however, you can make a call without any problems and hear what the other person is saying. Once you’ve hard-reset the device everything is back to normal.
It does get annoying however, since I regularly miss calls due to this bug.
I had the same problem on my Vario in the past. So I’m guessing it’s somewhere in the software I use, but apart from Total Commander and TomTom6 I haven’t installed any third-party apps.
Yup i've been having a slight problem with the sound. I thought it was like the endless knackered M500's that orange used to send me which had speaker failure after about 10minuites! (Swear they kept sending me the same 2 faulty phones - I had 5 in 5 days once!) But a play in the bluetooth seems to get it working again.
The other annoying thing is that if you leave the power management at the default settings then occasionally the screen blanks without being able to get the backlight on again - so now I have to manually turn of the screen. Stil aint much of a problem - ive had a normal days use, 2 hours of radio play, bluetooth and wi-fi on all day and still have 35% battery - wehay!
Hopefully there'll be a patch soon to sort out he glitches.
I forgot to mention I had the exact same problem on my mda Vario also. I always thought it was a problem with that specific piece, but apparantly not.
Could it be the vibrate.cab that I'm using to produce vibrations when you use the phonepad? Or should I really do some further research in the bluetooth-department?
Same problem here.
Phone becomes completely silent after 9 hours in standby mode.
I need to reset it to get back sound
Does someone know what is going on here ?
Please advise. Thank you.
I seem to experience no problems the past couple of days (fingers crossed). I used the 'speed up your WM5' tweak where you set the Glyphcache to 32768. After I reduced it to 16something the problems seem to have disappeared.
I noticed that this problem happens when for example email is automatically checked during night. If email comes in (and is not read immediately) the phone will start notifying in background.
Notifications are kept and only a program like "check notifications" will delete them manually. But still if you delete them, the phone then needs a reset
to work properly again.
This is not a memory issue, it has to do with the notifications.
I do not know how to solve it.
I've been experiencing the following symptoms in the last 24 hours or so, on a Tilt2, stock ROM:
-Frequent unsuccessful attempts to wake the phone from sleep. Often takes a few tries, usually successful, but I've felt the need to reset at least twice today.
-Occasional full-screen random color pixellation upon wake attempt. This generally goes away after a second or two, but sometimes I need a few wake attempts to get it off.
I am speculating that this might have something to do with the GMail IMAP issues that some people are having in the last day or two, or at least that's my best guess at associating it with a known issue, but I have really no idea. I've changed nothing, and I can't think of any possible traumatic experiences the device has gone through recently.
Everything worked fine yesterday, and has worked fine for over a year.
Follow-up, I hadn't yet noticed patterns in the issue until more recently. Now, I see that the problem occurs more in portrait.
Symptoms include:
-Landscape - generally normal touchscreen operation, I remember one time having some odd hardware keyboard behavior, though can't remember exactly what it was doing. I have also noticed that the power button seems to have no effect when in landscape.
-Portrait - phone is sluggish to wake, occasionally waking up to that random color pixel screen. Screen often freezes. Sometimes it comes back to normal, other times not. Power button seems to work normally, at least in toggling sleep/wake states.
I'm now thinking this probably does NOT have to do with the GMail IMAP issue, as some screen difficulty is occurring immediately upon power-on at times, before WinMo even begins to start.
I'm thinking some bad circuitry somewhere for whatever reason, and it might soon be time to evaluate repair/replacement options. Not sure what happened.
Which begs the side question, anyone have any idea what AT&T is replacing the Tilt2 with on insurance claims these days?
Hello,
The screen of my moto 360 goes randomly off and vibrates at that moment, just like when you dim the screen with your hand., but now I'm using it. It's very frustrating because I can't even open an app normally or the screen goed of and I need to start over again. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Having same issues with mine.
Really strange and really annoying. Its like when u cover it with palm. It vibrates and screen goes off but ur in the middle of trying to do something. Anyone else having this problem?
Glad I'm not the only one having this issue, just got my Moto 360 today. I'll be in the Settings or other parts of the watch and it will just randomly turn off. It is really frustrating to deal with.
I have the same issue. I have pretty hairy arms so I wonder if the hairs are somehow triggering the capacitive touch screen.
you guys try to do a reset on the watch yet?? not just a reboot..
Any updates on this? I'm having the same issue
Any updates? I have the same issue I think it happend after udate to 5.0.2 but I'm not sure.
I'm also having the same problem. I picked up a new Moto 360 during the BBY sale rush of the last couple of days. At first it was buggy but the screen seemed to stay on while working with it. Then it had a system update, and since then most bug issues (like the faces not updating with the companion app changes) went away, however from that point the screen constantly shuts off, usually with a little buzz, while I'm interacting with the watch.
For instance, regarding the sensor used to turn off the watch if you palm it. I thought maybe that was it, so I was looking for a way to turn that off. I went into settings, and spend about 10 times of the screen shutting off before I could get to "accessibility settings" just to see if that might be there.
This problem occurs whether I'm wearing the watch or not (trying to eliminate arm hair or similar), and has occurred after a factory reset and re-pair with my phone (Note 4). Ambient sensor settings don't help, because all that does is make the screen go dark instead of off, but it still reverts back to the clock no matter what I was doing.
Any ideas? Any way to turn off a sensor perhaps, maybe in a custom ROM? Since this seems to be associated with an update near as I can tell, I wonder if a fix is coming from Moto or if it's too rare of an issue to be on their radar.
As an update, I replaced the watch with a new one, and this new watch is perfect. It started on outdated software which I left on for a bit to make sure it didn't show the problem, then I updated. Still no issues. I think there is a chance the problem is software regardless, but either way it must be a small portion of watches and isn't necessarily tied to any particular outside software influence (phone model or android version, or installed apps as NONE of those things changed). My advice to people reading this thread is to exchange the watch or get an RMA if possible.
Same Issue
Hi All,
I have the same issue. Sent it back for repair so let's see...
Same issue here as well
Hi everyone,
I have 2 Galaxy S8+ from Verizon and here are my issues:
Past issues:
One of them did not come with the Galaxy Apps store (Not the plays store), and that phone also experienced the DQA issue
Current issues:
If I turn on Fingerprint gestures, the fingerprint sensor will stop working, this was an issue I had from the day I got the phone and has continued even through the updates. Here's a thread I made about it a while ago : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/fingerprint-sensor-t3595614
My internal speaker has detached, or at least I think that is the issue, as sometimes when I am in a phone call and shake the phone just a little bit, it will either start making a weird buzz sound or completely cut off the sound. Shaking it again will fix it, that's why I think it's a physical issue. I haven't dropped my phone and just in case I ever do, I have a case and a screen protector on it, and neither of them (phone, case, screen protector) have any damage marks on them.
The Biggest Issue: Currently this is the most annoying bug I am experiencing is that whenever I go to lock screen and security in the setting app, it crashes the settings app. I also can't use the search function in the settings app, as it crashes the app withing a few seconds. The lock screen and security is the only menu in which I experience this, I am 99% sure this is due to me turning on Secure startup. I had it turned on a few days after I got the phone and it worked great, I had to turn it off once, about a month ago in order to get a quicker boot. After that I was experiencing issues turning it back on (meaning I turned it on, rebooted the phone and it would not work) , after some persistence, I was able to get it to work and it has worked and still works.
One thing to mention is that I had done the most recent system update, I am not sure this issue was caused by at, since the inability so search in the setting menu has happened prior to the latest update.
I have tried everything other than a full factory reset (wiping all cache, wiping apps cache, reset setting, reset network settings), which I refuse to do, It is absolutely unacceptable for me to pay this much for this phone and have so many issues with it, I have factory resetted my phone (Samsung's recommendation) in order to fix the first issue listed above, multiple times and it did not work.
At this point I really don't know what to do, Samsung support has been useless in this, I don't wish to replace my phone right now as I need it to much to even give up for one day, If anyone has any advice/fix other than factory resetting, I'll happily try it.
Thank you,
GGgamer16
Sounds like a factory reset is needed. I just tried all you mentioned with zero problems on the newest update w/ navbar options and experienced none of that. Speaker problem is most likely hardware related.
Anyone had any luck getting rid of the wifi disconnect? The issue where wifi disconnects showing a ! next to the wifi symbol on the status bar?

You try changing your WiFi channel? Using 5ghz or 2.5ghz? I use Wifi 100% of the time I'm home and never have any issues with disconnects.

Yeah I have tried changing channels. It didn't matter. I'm on 2.4 GHz.
I found a possible fix from another forum. I changed my wifi encryption from wpa2 AES/tkip to wpa2 tkip only last night and was rock solid after that point. I didn't have any more wifi issues... Just wanted to mention this change for other people. I usually got 5+disconnects every night. I'm gonna try just the AES option tonight and see how it acts.
Hi, i have a big issue with this phone, i bought it like 2 weeks ago.
Since the 2nd day of use, i started to experience this issue, sometimes and usually when im not using wifi but mobile data, the screen goes to lockscreen, if i try to unlock it will lock again and that happens a couple of times, maybe 2, 3, 4, 5 times, sometimes i have to press lock button and try again. its really annoying, because somtimes it doesnt happen in a lot of time and then after 1 hour in the street and while im using it it locks and unlocks like crazy.
i did a soft factory reset but didnt work, i even tried in safe mode and it still happens.
yesteday i noticed that it even wakes up for no reason, that happened while i was driving in a highway, it suddenly wakes up like if i touched it, i disabled every feature about auto waking (like 2 touch, motion detection) but it still happens.
the only thing that makes it stop is if i switch airplane mode, so i guess maybe its something related to network (not wifi or location or mobile data because i disabled those and still happened), but when it is in airplane mode it will work fine, obv thats not a real solution.
i tried disabling and uninstalling a lot of apps but i cant figure out whats making this, im pretty sure its software problem, something related to network but i dont know.
do you have any ideas? even if i take it to tech service it will be hard to show them because sometimes it doesnt happen in hours.
anybody has an idea what could be causing my phone to lock for no reason while using it on the street?
Your phone gone kaboom
I have same problem, the problem is caused by the weak signals, which means that your phone connectivity is constantly changing, for example on a highway or in a basement. Solutions I have none, just waiting samsung to make a fix
Yes, thats exactly the problem. When signal is weak the phone locks or unlocks. I asked for a new phone at the store and they gave me a new one.

Btw i don't think this is a software problem because if it was a software problem all phones would having this issue. I think it's a problem with some hardware failing in some phones. IMEI of failed phone is 356711101439414 check if yours is similar
