Mine is working. Just tested. I get a face icon where lock is normally. Swipe that up, and phone unlocks without pin. BTW turning it off now though. Also had to hold phone pretty close to my head.

Anyone able to get this locking method to work?

What I'd like to do is set it up so that the phone will require the dot pattern unlock after the phone has been idle for X amount of minutes but NOT require me to slide to unlock the screen.
I currently have Auto Lock installed but it still requires the slide to unlock screen everytime.
You need something like Lock Delay..

thanks! this app works perfectly!

What's the point of the lockscreen?

"Locking" the keypad on my old candy bar phone made sense - if you didn't, buttons were always pressed and people were sometimes dialed from your pocket. I can also see the case for a lockscreen on the iPhone, for example, since maybe its home button can be pressed accidentally as well. However, for the EVO and for the Pre I had before it, the only way to turn on the device is via the power button up top, which is surely not going to be pressed on accident (especially with the EVO where it's only slightly raised and must be pressed deliberately). Because of this, the lockscreen serves practically no purpose, except to add an extra redundant step before using your phone. It might be more useful if it showed all recent notifications on it webOS-style, but since it only shows the most recent one, it's not very good for that either, and it isn't a big deal to pull down the shade once you're in the phone.
So, unless you actually secure your phone with a password/gesture/PIN, is there really any point to the lockscreen?
Im going to go on a guess here but the purpose of the lock screen is , in the event that the phone is in your pocket "Granted highly unlikely" the button does get pushed another process of slidding your finger down the screen to unlock would also be needed . I believe the phone sitting in a pocket or a purse or case it would be even more difficult for the sliding motion on the screen to happen . Just an extra safe guard more or less .
You can use SwitchPro Widget to disable the lockscreen if you want.
Because its part of Android and the Evo isn't the only Android phone.
...yep.

Is there an app or a way to just use the pattern lock as opposed to the slide down lock? I'd rather just have the pattern lock when unlocking rather than the swipe screen lock and then a pattern lock.
Also no lock works like a charm.

This is one reason. The other is simply because iPhone has it and it is Android competition, there is no denying that the development tries to outdo each other.
I do understand the OP's reasoning, with the build of HTC EVO 4G, lockscreen is not necessary. On the other hand, it is advised to lock your screen with either PIN or pattern just in case you lose your device. It is part of personal security responsibility.

I'm using the latest CM6 nightly ( so i have the Vanilla lockscreen ) & if i have a pattern set, that is what i see when i press the power button, & after entering the pattern, my phone is unlocked. No need to swipe before or after.
Not sure what ROM you're using, but if it possible to use the Vanilla Lockscreen, you can probably get the same result.

Stock Sense, unrooted. If you put the pattern on you first have to unlock the screen before you can do the pattern. It is pretty retarded.
My phone's screen turns on occasionally for certain notifications and alerts, and if it isn't for the lockscreen, in the 30 seconds it takes for the screen to turn off again, i can easily butt-dial someone or do something else stupid.

It doesn't do this anymore with froyo, you can change the settings so it doesn't do the swipe only the unlock pattern or vice versa.

Are their any special instructions for doing this? Im on Evo with 2.2 and I still get the swipe screen with the pattern or PIN enabled.

I'm sorry, normally I wouldn't clutter up xda with an off topic post, but I actaully lol'ed at butt-dial - never heard that term before

I too was unable to get this to work. I saw no setting to disable the slick to unlock.
you would really think it would be near impossible to butt-dial someone on the EVO, but leave it to me to prove to be the exception to the rule, I had the lock screen enabled even!!! and somehow in my pocket I called the same guy like 3 times over on the drive home one day... lucky it was a good friend of mine.
Come on, we all know why: Because the iPhone had one. If every other phone didn't have a lock screen, imagine the kind of elitist harassment we'd get from the Apple camp.
"Oh, your screen just comes on? Strange. My iPhone has a lock screen. I just swipe my finger and it unlocks, it's way cool. I can even put a lock code on it. But, no, your phone is cute. I like the little robot guy."
And so forth.

wait, what the hell...? You keep your phone in your back pocket? sitting on it?
May the Evo gods have pity on your soul... don't you know it gets its own front pocket, no keys, no coins, no lint, no nothing!

Lol...I dedicated a pocket too. Nothing is allowed in my right front pocket but my phone. I have to force myself because with my g1 I had gotten to the point where I didn't care.

It may be different depending on which ROM you're running, but I was able to get the pattern unlock without the slide unlock with CM6 RC1 using this method:
- Settings
- Location and Security
- Set up screen lock
- Pattern (add pattern here)

Turn off knock on?

Hi guys, does anyone know how to turn off knock on on the G3? Tried looking for it in gestures settings like in the G2 but can't seem to find it. The g3 keeps waking while in my pocket making it feels constantly warm. Anyone else experiencing this? I don't mind just using the button at the back to wake it. The placement for the button is quite comfortable actually.
I'm sorry to hear this is a problem on the g3, I have this problem on the double tap to wake code on my Nexus 5 and so I just turned it off. I know for the galaxy 2, sorry g2, voice dictation, they released firmware fix for this I think

Can you tell me how you did the wake code on the nexus 5?
And to the op, isn't there a setting in the screen gestures section of the phone to turn it off?
You can turn it off in the hidden system settings menu
Dial 3845#*855# to access it.

It is the very last setting in the list, just scroll all the way down to the bottom.
If you have the Korean model replace the 855 with 400
I turned this feature off as it will save battery life too as it needs to keep the screen driver awake happy using the back button.

855 opens my hidden menu. But I still can figure out which option to choose after scrolling down to the bottom. The screen shot shows my menu. Could u let me know which option should I be disabling?

we don't have that functionality by default, it's patched into custom kernels and eats 2-3% battery per hour (another reason I turn it off)
Just so you know, I had issues with Knock On unlocking my phone in my pocket so I turned it upside down and the issue is 100% gone !
I think it's due to the light sensor not being 100% in the dark then the taps on the lap unlocked the phone. When it's upside down the light sensor is kept in the dark
I just can't find that setting... Ive looked everywhere. My phone is rooted with towelroot. Is that the problem?

Is it really the light sensor? I think the proximity sensor would make more sense in this case! Otherwise you wouldn't be able to use the knock on feature in the darkness...
Screen wakes in my pocket whichever way up I put it in and I don't want to have the screen face outwards. This is very annoying and didn't happen on my G2 - The screen is clearly very sensitive. I don't want to turn off knock on and I don't really like knock code.

Same here. Upside up or Upside down makes no difference for me. Display from body away seems to be the only real solution...
Looks like a few of u are experiencing the same problem. I have been facing the screen away from me as a solution but it feels so awkward when I m so used to have the screen face in. And I can't find the hidden settings to turn knock on off. They really hid very well I guess.

touch screen stops working

this has happening to me lot now. I could be in the middle of any app and the touch screen will just stop working totally until i lock the screen with the power button and then unlock it.

I've experienced some issues with DT2W/S on other devices/roms, even when its a feature enabled by the kernel.
Try disabling it.
I'll be sure to try it the next time I have the issue.

happening here as well. noticed the logo used for the "interruptions" settings menu pops up as an indicator at the top of the screen every time this happens. tried changing around the settings within interruptions with no luck. also have dt2w off. imgur . com/KK7riD

Mi 9 SE OTG - is a mouse working?

Hey,
I broke the screen of my Mi 9 SE, seems the touch and fingerprint is also not working. But the device lives, I can hear messages incomming, charging makes a noise, programmed alarms work fine (but can't be stopped, d'oh).
I would like to guestimate my lockscreen pattern to unlock my phone and get adb + scrcpy back running. But can I connect a mouse via USB-OTG? I tested it on other non Xiaomi Phones, there it works. But I don't hear any noise when I connect the USB OTG with the mouse.
Cheers
Kobi-P
I just tried with my otg and mouse is working normally
But it doesn't make any sound when I connect it
@mauriciotc17 Big thank you for the clarification! Could you tell me if I can click to get the screen on? Do I need to click somewhere on the lower part and "swipe" up to get the unlock pattern? This would help me a lot to do it blindly.
Cheers

Sorry for the late reply, actually yes, you can swipe in any part to get the pattern, but if you dont have the face unlock enabled it can be a little difficult to make the pattern

Ah, ok. Then I did everything correctly, but had no luck in hitting the pattern right. You are right, face unlock would have helped me here. With my new phone I did that now.
Thank you very much for your support!
