Hello,
I am fairly experienced with the rooting-type-thing.. However, recently I was running a little short on storage so I purchased a microSD card. This required formatting (as expected), unknown to me this would also format my internal SD which resulted in my Backups and ROMs being deleted.
I decided to just do the usual and try to adb sideload a new rom, it failed. I then tried an otg cable and flashed a rom from there. I received the error:
Additionally: I am attemping flash with both signature verification and md5sum check enabled. Have also tried with them disabled and same error.
E: footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed
E: installation aborted.
I have no idea what this means and I am approaching 2 days without a phone now. Please Help.
Matt

Hi all,
On monday I was looking forward to download Froyo, and since then I live a nightmare. Everything starts cool, it downloaded, it installed itself, and when it restarted.... NIGHTMARE, it started to keep on restarting every two o three minutes after saying the system has a problem.
Since that moment I lost Wifi and mobile features, as well as SD-card reading posibilities.
What I found after some reboots is that I could get into the bootloader and select Recovery, and so I did... and I chose wipe data/factory reset. Everything got delete, and now I could see the screen when it loads (HTC Sense screen).
After this I have tried almost everything, a goldcard to copy a new update.zip file (but when I do it I got the following message:
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
And this had happen with any single update.zip file I found in these forums and others.
I have tried to use revoked3, and I got an error saying it can not keep on installed.
So... do i have a brick or does someone know how to fix this problem?
Thank you very much in advance for any piece of help.
Guillermo
did you update to the latest radio ?

I haven't used revoked recovery, but I know that ROM Manager recovery has an option to 'disable signature verification' (or similar wording) that should get rid of your verify option. As for the reboot loop, usually if you remove the SD card completely, and go into fastboot mode and wipe storage, you get booted up ok.
In my experience, its pretty near impossible to permanently brick an Android handset, so keep at it. You will get it working fully again in the end.
(I lost SD, BT and USB functionality in late July and had everything working again in 24 hours - after lots of panic and stress!).
Feel free to PM me if you get totally stuck.
When and how??
I think I did not, but I did not know I have to do it. I mean, my phone was working fine, I download FROYO, it crashs.... when should I put a new Radio????
Best regards
Solution at last

Hi,
im new here and have a problem with mounting the SD card with the recoveries "4EXT Recovery Touch 1.0.0.5 RC8" and the "CWM PhilZ Touch 6.40.7". No error occurs but no storage device is displayed on the computer when connected with USB.
Mounting with TWRP 2.6.3.0 works.
The reason why i want to change to another recovery is that i want to use the Mokee kitkat rom. And unfortunately flashing the rom with TWRP fails (also with the 4EXT recovery)
Error messag with 4EXT:
"set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E: Error in /sdcard/_rom/MK44.4-ace-140829-RELEASE.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted."
Error message in TWRP:
"set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/_rom/MK44.4-ace-140829-RELEASE.zip'"
However I managed to flash the rom with the CWM recovery but also mounting the SD within the running Mokee ROM fails.
The ROM is great and i want to use it really bad, could anyone give me some advices please, how i could get this work for me?
Thanks in advance.
i just tested TWRP 2.7.1.0 and USB mounting does not work there either.
Anyone else got this problem?
My micromax android one phone is stuck during boot with micromax boot logo. It has 5.1.1 android version with build number LMY47V.
To recover this, I am trying to flsah rhe ROM with this OTA - d827aed7f4da8fcedfcd24c8d67e97977b610120.signed-sprout-mmx-ota-1783956.d827aed7.zip
But I am getting below error:
Can't install this package over newer build
E:Error in /sideload/package.zip
However, in file ..\d827aed7f4da8fcedfcd24c8d67e97977b610120.signed-sprout-mmx-ota-1783956.d827aed7\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script, I removed the line which checks for newer build. But with that I am getting now following error:
E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
IS there any way to avoid this signature problem.
Please help find OTA which could be flashed on my phone or any other suggestion.
I tried putting twrp recovery which requires device to be in debugging mode. Since my device is not booting to that stage, I skipped that part and tried if via other fastboot commands, it will be done or not. But this also fails as the device remains in default recovery.
I tried flashing through SP Flash tool also, but there it is not able to detect the device.
Please let me know if something else can be tried. Appreciate any help on this.
I have an ASUS ZenFone 2 (550 model), and I got a Push Notification about an OS Update, so I went ahead and installed it. After the phone installed the Update and rebooted, I got in a Bootloop. I can get into the Bootloader, the Stock Recovery, and the Temporary ClockworkMod Recovery mentioned here:
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/root-newbie-root-instructions-zenfone-2-t3114063
ADB also works, thankfully.
My phone is rooted, and I'd like to unlock my Bootloader, and install CyanogenMod, after I get out of this Bootloop.
Could someone please help?
EDIT:
Silly me, I forgot to mention the problems I actually had while trying t solve the bootloop.
So,
Problem #1: If I try to flash Firmware, the stock Recovery stops at 25% (It continues going until 50% in ADB), and then i get this error:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature vertification failed"
Problem #2: CWM cannot use my MicroSD. If I go to "Install zip from sd card", it doesn't show the actual SD card, jus three empty folders. I tried to mount "ext-sd" in the mounting options, but it fails to mount. (My MicroSD is 32GBs and formatted in Fat32, so it should work. :/ )
So I have not been able to use my Zenfone 3 Deluxe for a couple of years and have decided to revisit it again to hopefully fix the problem.
My Zenfone 3 Deluxe has been stuck in a bootloop ever since I've tried to downgrade.
So currently I am not able to access the bootloader. The only thing I am able to access is recovery mode to update from ADB or through SD card.
I've been reading up on a lot of ADB guides and have downloaded the latest one r29.0.5
The steps I've taken are:
1. Boot into recovery mode.
2. Download both UL-Z016_1-WW-4.12.40.1698-user.zip & UL-Z016_1-WW-15.0210.1810.73-user.zip from the Asus website.
The reason I downloaded the 4.12.40 is because I thought I had to match the firmware if the 15.0210 were to not work and it hasn't.
3. I would go to update from adb on my Zenfone 3 Deluxe
4. CMD: adb sideload UL-Z016_1-WW-15.0210.1810.73-user
The problem I have been currently running into and is making me frustrated is that I get the following Error:
E:unknown volume for path[/sideload/package.zip]
Verifying update package . . .
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
----------------------------------------
If anyone can help me bypass this failed whole-file signature situation, that'd be great. Thanks!
I've also read somewhere that installing a CWM or TWRP can bypass the whole-file signature error. I believe that can only be done by installing through SD card which I have in case if needed.
Any help would be appreciated. At this point, I'm just trying to get the phone to work again and update normally through the phone.
