I see a few posts here (and other places) mentioning an Ambient Mode.
I cannot find anything in the User Guide about it and I do not see any settings for it.
I am on: Android 6.0.1 - android Wear 1.4.0.2621048
(On a Zenwatch MSQWI500Q Build # MEC23S)
There is an Always on Screen, but it does not do anything.
I just noticed in the Asus Zenwatch Manager - the Face Settings - Dim Screen after - Never; does work.

It has always worked okay on mine. It does turn off after a while if you set it down or put it in to charge, but it stays on while wearing it.

Both of those are old. Are you able to update to the latest versions?

When I try to update on my Zenwatch (Settings - about - system updates - it says it is up to date
My Note 4 has AndroidWear 1.5.0.2951640.gms on it
I will try searching to see any way to force this
Maybe unpair - then reset my zenwatch?
It is only a week old (for me - I bought it "refurb")
Hmm. Resetting is worth a try, since there's not really a downside. I also found this, which might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...-zenwatch-manager-facer-t3334255#post65815338

Thanks - I will give that idea a try
I have no setting anywhere for a reset <-- Ahh I just found it!
It is called Unpair with phone in settings
It says "unpair & factory reset" when I tap on Unpair
I did manage to get it to update after a good bit of tinkering (unpairing - old versions of Android Wear <-- That did not work for me)
Anyway I now have:
Android Wear 1.5.0.2884951
Build Number MWD48B
I still have no Setting about ambient mode - but at least I am updated Thank You!
It seems to be just a bit smoother now too.
I have searched all over and cannot find ANYTHING that tells how to get ambient mode "on".
I tried a few of the Watch Faces in Asus's Zenwatch app also to see if any had some settings
I wonder if it is something that Google Dropped in 6.0.1 ?

I think maybe the term "ambient mode" is specific to the Moto 360, but I think it's sometimes also used by people to refer to the dim mode of the "Screen always on" option. Will your screen still not stay on all the time with that option on?

If I just set Screen Always on - on my Zenwatch - it goes off in a few seconds (actually to the time set in the Zenwatch Manager App on my Phone)
If I set "Dim screen after" on my phone in Zenwatch Manager App to never, it seems like it will just stay on all the time (My guess is battery would not last long that way)!
I am at almost 20 minutes now and still in full color.
I just layed the Zenwatch on dy desk so I did not wake it up by moving around.
I set it to 30 secound and in apx 30 seconds it goes black/off
With screen always on, the normal behavior is that it's full-color for 8 seconds (I think), then it goes to dim mode, which is just pure black and white on most faces. Using WatchMaker, I have mine set to 10 seconds. The battery on my ZenWatch still lasts about 2 days with screen always on, though I still charge it every night anyway. Try uninstalling ZenWatch Manager. It's not really necessary. I don't have it installed.
Well I uninstalled Zenwatch Manager - installed Watchmaker - picked the first face Steel Blue - Just Digits
Set "Keep Watch Awake" to 10 seconds
And it still goes off in the 10 seconds.
I even rebooted my Phone and my Zenwatch same
What about some setting in Android Wear?
Only one I see is Always On Screen slide switch it is set to on - but setting it to off does not change the way it works

Yeah, the only thing I have is "Always-on screen," too. I have it, and "Tilt to wake screen" both set to on. I'm at a loss at this point. It seems likely it's a software problem of some kind, but I don't know where to look next.
Well thank you for trying to Help!
I appreciate it!
I just noticed something interesting:
If I set Always On Screen on my Zenwatch: When it goes to sleep (so to say): It first goes dim then it goes black and white. - But then it goes off.
If I have Always On Screen off: It just Goes DIm then off
So my take on mine is it is a glitch of a defect.
I will probably live with it as I bought it as Refurbished

Hi!
I have exactly the same problem ! But it came after updating my zenwatch to 6.0.1 (M1D63K) .
Have you found a solution?
I'm on the same boat. Always On Display is activated, tried doing it on the watch, on the Wear App and the ZenWatch manager. No luck. I've received OTA updates regularly, but none have worked.
I'm posting in the hopes of finding a solution. I've had this watch way beyond the warranty period, so there's no way I'll be able to return it to Asus.
Was a solution ever found? i am now experiencing this problem after owning the watch for 2 years. It has never happen before.

hello everyone , so i use to have this bug back to kitkat also but it wasn't happening as often as it doesnt now that i have lollipop rom installed on my galaxy tab s T705 , the issue is with touch key lights which stays on even when i have them always off from settings , they act super weird when they are in that mode , they go off few sec after screen is off and if i shake the device they go on again as it looks like they are connected to accelerator sensor or something lolz ,the solution is super easy tho just hit the power saving on and then off again and they work normally again i heard some other ppl dealing with same issue but i wanted to know if there is a perma solution for it or not , im sure its a software issue but is there a way to fix it ?
Install a custom rom like cyanogen or something stock based.
I have the same problem. I usually have it set to turn the lights off after 6 seconds, but after a couple of days they don't work anymore. I would change the setting to off, then on, then back to 6 seconds, and it'll work again. After a few more days, they stop. I haven't seen a permanent fix for this.

Same for me. Would usually opt to have the buttons backlight always off, but randomly it starts actin like always on, although the settings remains 'always off'. Toggling the setting to anything else and back to always off fixes the problem temporeraly.
Im running stock swiss lollipop on my t700.
Yes, this is driving me nuts too! I hope they resolve this in the next update and soon!

Same problem with the lights on after a while even though set to always off. Seems to work properly under 1.5 sec setting option. I would love for the lights to be always off though.

Me too have the touch key settings to always off and found the same problem.
In my case I think it only happens when I plug the Tablet to AC.
Did this happen to anyone under another circumstances?
Thanks in adavance!

I have the same problem as everyone else, which I am very "happy" to hear because I am not the only one apparently dealing with it. I purchased the tablet a couple weeks ago and noticed that even though the setting for the touch key backlight is "always off", it goes on when I open the case, and sometimes goes on and off and goes weird. I contacted Samsung and they requested that I send in the tablet for repairs, so I did. At the same time, I contacted Amazon and they sent me another Tab S tablet. I have a month to return the other one so I figured I'll try this second one and see if I continue to have the same issues like the first one. Sure enough, I had the second tablet for less than a day and it's doing the exact same thing! So far the 1.5 second setting seems to keep the darn lights off. Sometimes doing a soft reset will fix the issue temporarily, but not permanently. If anyone figures out how to fix this, let us know! I'll be following this thread. I hope there's a software update to fix this.

I believe this is a software bug so all tab s running the 5.0.2 lollipop will have this issue.
And to reply to the other poster: The problem will occur after a while, the lights will just turn on and stay on when you wake the tablet. Changing the setting and choose Always Off will fix it but it will come back after a while.

Is there a way to get it back to the stock ROM? I'd rather avoid this light issue until an update to correct this comes out. Thoughts?

I heard that there's a new update available for the Tab S. (I already returned my tablet before my 30 days to get a full refund.) Did any one get the new update, and if so, did it fix the issues like this touch key light?
Hey,
I had this problem on the original KK software - upgraded to Lollipop a few days back and I still have the bug... in fact, it is even worse! Occurs more frequently than on LP.
I wouldn't mind leaving the lights on all the time, but they're so damn BRIGHT, and there's no way to adjust the backlight intensity!
Cheers,
Su
I found this solution on another forum...
If you enable smart stay, the touch key light duration will work properly.
Any further movement on this?. I've found that if I take my tab out of the book case the problem goes away. Seems like it's a bug with the case sensor.
No movement that I'm aware of. I'm really frustrated that there hasn't been a fix after all this time. I'm holding out hope that if there is ever an update to Marshmallow, that the issue will go away. Interesting observation about the case -I have a book case on mine. I'll remove it and see what happens...
So I just got the Moto 360 for christmas and I wondered, if there is something to keep the screen dimmed?
I already found out that you can keep the screen always-on with a launcher and it's also possible to have the brightness the same as when it's in dim mode.
But it's pretty annoying, that you then have to change the brightness everytime you actually want to use it.
It would be awesome if there was something to keep it dimmed, and e.g. when pressing the button it goes back to normal mode..
greetings and happy holidays!
3m7ecc
You would be better off turning the ambient screen mode off, using automatic brightness, and just pressing the hardware button on the side (or tapping the screen) to turn the screen on.
Unless you want to be constantly carrying a charger around, that is.
Okay, thanks for the advice!
@3m7ecc actually the new version of android wear (1.4) made this. If you turn on ambient mode, your watch will be dimmed, and when you tap on button or screen, the normal mode is activated. But don't expect a full day without charging. All that I want is 5.1.1 root and something like kernel auditor, slowing the cpu frequencies and lasts 3-4 days with dimm mode

Hi,
I am facing a big problem with Huawei watch.
After i charge the watch, Always On feature doesnot work even if those options are turned on.
I have to Factory Reset the watch every time i charge it, to make that feature work.
I love this watch and am very much worried.
Please suggest any solution. Thank you.

Could you have interfering software? Also when you say factory reset do you really mean factor reset or just reboot?
Hi,
I have recently started facing the same issue. I have been using this watch for 6 months but since yesterday it has been turning the screen off after 5-10 seconds (even if AlwaysOn is marked as On). It worked on the same watch face perfectly fine till a few days back. I don't think any software updates were pushed recently. Haven't tried a factory reset yet but changed watch faces and didn't work.
Also I'm in the same boat as @getchethanbr, bought this watch in the US and am now in India.
EDIT: Last I remember that I was running low on batter two says back and the watch gave an option of Batter Saver (OR Boost) and I turned it ON. Now I can't find the setting. May be that is the one turning off screen to save battery. Does any one remember such a setting?

I think my case is suspiciously similar to http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-watch/help/watch-stuck-battery-saver-mode-t3344409. If I find a solution to it, I will post back.
Look in the watch developer options for the Ambient enabled/disabled setting.
It looks like this problem already figured out, but read in that other thread that you have to drain battery until you see the 'battery saver card' again and swipe over to 'disable' ... someone in other thread mentioned this toggle option probably left out by accident in an update
So let me know if you have the same issue... No matter how long I set my screen off time for, it always goes go sleep after 10 seconds!
Don't have that issue here. ATT version
I do not have that issue either (AT&T). Perhaps there is an email account or other "administrator" that requires a short screen timeout? I have seen that before.

The main screen. I turned moto display off and it still happens
I ever tried rebooting into safe mode and same problem.. Going to try a factory reset later
My motoz2 is doing this same thing. And it is frustrating. (Verizon). Have you figured out how to fix this?
Do you have adaptive brightness turned on?

So I did a master reset and didn't connect my tumi battery until the play store updated the moto mod app to the newest version.. No more screen issue! I highly recommend anyone who gets this phone, update the app first before you attach any type of mod.
Hi,
I received my RN8 Pro just yesterday (22nd Oct) (India).
The first thing I noticed is the screen quality.
I find the screen is calibrated a tad bit warmer than usual. Even if you go to the screen settings and tweak it to 'cool', it still remains yellowish.
I came from OnePlus5, which had an AMOLED screen (not fHD/SuperAmoled). There the screen was obviously more crisp, I don't really expect that here. However, the calibration looks bit different if I hold these 2 phones side by side.
What I want to know is, is this just my RN8 Pro, or others also feel the same?
Also, in MIUI where is the 'night light' setting, where I can either manually or automatically turn the screen hue warmer? It's one of the main features in OxygenOS. Actually, the current RN8P calibration looks like 'night light' is already set.
Issue summary:
1) Daytime screen temp looks like as if the 'night mode'/'night light' is already ON. (Note, I don't mean 'reading mode', that's different)
2) Night time screen temp gets very yellowish, almost as if the 'reading mode' is on
3) Screen calibration (warm/default/cool) doesn't change it a lot
4) Can not find the setting to turn off the 'night mode' in #1
Thanks.
In RN8P you can find Night Light in "Reading Mode" in Display option, it turns the screen hue warmer. I'm not sure about the warm color. May "Reading mode" is enabled which is causing this. Try to check that option.

Yes. And there is no quick way to disable the night time extra yellow tint.
You think it would be eligible for a replacement?
If you could compare it to another rn8 pro and see an obvious difference then yes you should claim for warranty.

Try enabling and disabling it. turn off schedule option if it is enabled.
Check whether night light settings are there in developer option or not

It's 10 pm for me, I hope someone else having phone confirm this too.
Looks like mine got fixed on its own. No more automated yellow tint.
Possibility#1: Xiaomi pushed some OTA
Possibility#2: I forcedly changed the 'good night read' schedule to some random time. 'ON' from 11pm to 1am, and kept the scheduler 'ON'. So, it didn't turn yellow at 6pm (the approx sunset time). Once it's past 6, I turned off everything there. It didn't turn yellow. Rebooted. Didn't turn yellow. Will observe again tomorrow.
